Staff reports

Detectives have named convicted armed robber Evan Knox as the suspect they believe shot and killed a man in front of his 4-year-old stepson last month.

Police suspect Knox, 21, shot 22-year-old Thomas Rutledge on May 30 in the J.C. Napier public housing development as Rutledge was riding a miniature four-wheeler with his stepson. Knox allegedly approached Rutledge and opened fire on him. Rutledge died at the scene.

Rutledge’s stepson was not injured in the shooting. Neither Knox nor Rutledge lived in the housing development.

Hermitage Precinct detectives have sworn out arrest warrants charging Knox with criminal homicide and attempted criminal homicide. They consider Knox to be armed and extremely dangerous.

Police said they have received information that Knox may be staying in the area of South 7th Street or off Charlotte Pike.

Anyone with information regarding Knox’s whereabouts can call Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME or send an electronic tip to Crime Stoppers by texting the word “CASH” along with their message to 274637 (CRIMES)
