Possible changes to Broadway concern downtown merchants

Metro is in the early stages of planning improvements to Broadway, between First and Fifth avenues.

The first work will be done at First and Broadway at an estimated cost of $100,000. But the Metro Public Works Department also wants to plan the long-term look of lower Broadway.

Some ideas include widening sidewalks, adding

bricked crosswalks and pedestrian bulbs (larger corners) and possibly building a median in the middle of the street.

"What we have funding for right now just deals with the intersection of First and Broadway," said Randall Dunn, director of Public Works. "We've got to do something with that intersection, and we don't want to do something that will be different from what's done on the rest of the project.
