Report: Fisk University selects next president

Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at 5:45pm

The next president of Fisk University is expected to be H. James Williams, former dean of Seidman College of Business at Grand Valley State University in Michigan, according to an Associated Press report.

Williams and Lawrence Drake, the CEO of Hope 360°, were announced as the two finalists in November.

Fisk's current president Hazel O’Leary is set to retire on Dec. 31.

When contacted by The City Paper, O'Leary declined to confirm that Williams got the job and said she wanted to "do this the right way." She said the university would send out a press release about their hire by Monday.

The school is currently under its second “warning” from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools accrediting body regarding issues with a financial plan and other administrative matters

Joe/The Collection:

Farewell Hazel! As an interested on-looker, I would add "job well-done."
The university should be so lucky if the incoming president embodies the same qualities as the outgoing has demonstrated.

Two related examples of good stewardship/leadership:

1) The solution to the Fisk/Stieglitz dilemma.

2) Your pragmatic analysis/solution/challenge to the Steiglitz/Boyd/Fisk sideshow.

One Unrelated Random Observation/Question:

Why was this article open for comments while the TSU/Glenda Glover Article/Q&A
was published in a way that would not accept Comments (at least, not on my computer)? Uhmmmm...? Oprah...?...."Words (Things) Unspoken"...?
