Staff reports

A rookie Metro Nashville police officer has been decommissioned after he drunkenly broke into a neighbor's house on Sunday. Robert Shouse, 39, was charged with aggravated trespassing and public intoxication outside a townhouse development in South Nashville.

Shouse had just completed six months of rigorous training less than two weeks ago. Police have already collected his gun and badge.

After knocking on a neighbor's back door, Shouse struggled to get inside the home. He broke the handle off the door and his neighbor ran outside the house and called police. Police arrested him outside the neighborhood near Nolensville Road.

The police department's Office of Professional Accountability launched an administrative review of Shouse yesterday afternoon.

Shouse's bail was set at $2,000.

If a fellow is a rookie cop at age 39 he should be investigated and researched for the loose screw.....I wonder why the HR people with the police department don't have a clue as to who theiy are hiring.

I'm not racist, but I'm curious as to his race.

Actually, truth be told, I had some fools run up in my crib which is up on the east side of Vandy. stealing on a few flat screen tv's and what not. When the cop came to take fingerprints, I was like, "What are you going to do with those? He was like, "I am going to take this strips and dip them in mayonnaise, bbq sauce, and hot sauce. From there will have a lead. I was like, "Really", and he was like "Of course not, what the heck is wrong with you!" And then he was like, "Are you blind, Helen Keller?"

It was really confusing and offensive.

I'm glad we made such excellent use of that federal grant money to hire more law enforcement.

Money really well spent.

Thanks Mayor Dean and Metro Council.

@Rasputin and @Ask: That is why ALL new cops have a ONE YEAR probationary period in which you can be terminated for ANYTHING that involves integrity. The hiring process is stringent (background check (that includes personal interviews of friends, family, neighbors as well as fingerprints), a polygraph examination and a psychological examination) ALL of us (including those that we hold to a higher standard) are subject to act's of stupidity while under the influence of alcohol. This stupid act will cost him his job.

Rickmuz......You speak as if you know. I am glad to know that there is some form and fashion to how we choose cops. Obviously after reading your post I now would assume that we just do not have a good pool of applicants.

I wonder how much money we just threw away, since, even after all the intricate, involved, and detailed process, this individual slipped through anyway.

I can't help worrying how many other less than desirable subjects have slipped through, but thanks to the 'thin blue line' protecting them, have managed to survive and are on patrol, armed and empowered?

Almost too frightening to contemplate.
