A man dressed as Santa was packing heat in his Santa sack on Tuesday morning when he robbed SunTrust Bank’s 4809 Old Hickory Boulevard branch, Metro Police said.

Police say the suspect entered the bank at 10 a.m. and demanded money from the teller. When the teller hesitated witnesses said the man pulled a handgun from his sack.

The teller complied, and the man fled in a gray midsize car from the nearby Hermitage Church of Christ parking lot on Lebanon Pike.

The suspect is described as a white man with brown hair who is approximately six feet tall. At the time of the robbery, he was wearing a Santa suit including a hat, fake white beard, mustache and dark sunglasses.

A witness told WSMV news the man said he was robbing the bank because “Santa had to pay his elves."

Anyone who has information about the bank robber is urged to contact Detective Keith Sutherland with the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force at 232-7500 or Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.
