Montreal Canadiens sold

Molson Inc., the Canadian brewery and owner of the Montreal Canadiens, announced the sale of the club Wednesday to American entrepreneur George Gillett Jr. for $183 million. His gains include the Molson Centre, where the Canadiens play. Gillett is bound by an agreement for the team to remain in Montreal. This deal must be approved by the NHL board of governors before becoming official. Molson will retain 20 percent of the team itself with Gillett getting 80 percent. Gillett, 62, a Racine, Wis., native, once owned the Harlem Globetrotters and a share of the NFL Miami Dolphins franchise.
