The Spring Hill Police Department is mourning the loss of one of its own tonight.

Cpl. Jeremy McLaren, 28, died Sunday afternoon at Vanderbilt University Medical Center of complications from an on-duty crash Friday night.

McLaren had just been to the Maury County Jail when he collided with a pickup truck at 6:30 p.m., police said.

“The driver of a pickup truck apparently ran the red light at Highway 31 and Burt Drive in Columbia,” Spring Hill Police Chief John Smith said. “The impact was so great that it caused Cpl. McLaren’s vehicle to leave the roadway and hit a culvert before coming to rest in a parking lot.”

McLaren was rushed to VUMC where he underwent surgery for a leg injury. Police said his prognosis was good, but complications that arose unexpectedly led to his death Sunday.

At the request of Smith, the Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

No charges have been filed in this case still under investigation.

McLaren leaves behind a wife and his parents.

Arrangements are pending and will be made public when finalized.
