Franklin police are searching for a man who allegedly attacked a stranded motorist Sunday night on the shoulder of Interstate 65 north near mile marker 61.

The 24-year-old woman called 911 after 10:30 p.m. to report that she had been assaulted by a man who offered assistance with her broken down vehicle.

The suspect is described as a white male with a medium build, wearing a blue baseball cap, a white short sleeve T-shirt, and jeans. He had a thick southern accent.

The woman told police she had opened her hood and walked to the front of her vehicle. That’s when the suspect allegedly grabbed her and ripped open her shirt. She said she lost her footing and rolled down an embankment on the side of the road. The man followed her down, but ran away when another motorist stopped to help, police said.

The suspect was driving a small, older model, boxy, white pickup truck with a chrome rear bumper.

The woman suffered only minor injuries.
