Staff reports

A School Resource Officer at Whites Creek High School arrested a 17-year-old student for allegedly bringing a loaded but trigger-locked handgun onto campus, Metro Police said.

The student allegedly brought the loaded .380-caliber semi-automatic handgun to school on Monday because he said he felt threatened, according to police.

Another student tipped off authorities that the teen had the loaded gun that included a loaded seven-round clip.

The teen told police he got the gun from his parent’s bedroom and that he did not have a key for the trigger lock.

He was charged at Juvenile Court with unlawfully carrying a gun on school property.

Let's all ask the question, where is that teen's father and why?

This kid needs an "intervention", and I mean today. Not a week goes by where some kid is expelled for bringing a pr. of sissors, camping tool, knife to school. Doesn't he watch TV? This moron thought he needed a loaded gun to fend off bullies? Expell him.

Tennessean, could you please do a story about the amount of crime by school.
Could you also indicate the race of the violater. After recent stories about problems in various schools and all of the noise about rezoning I am curious about the violence in the schools. It is hard to determine why kids do or do not get an education but it can be determined if the school is safe.

All I can say is that this country is in TROUBLE. You think we have problems now, wait until these kids are older, can't get job, and have kids of their own. I don't know about you guys, but I am out of the United States. This ship (country) is sinking fast. These kids need an old fashion ass whooping.

As a former school administrator, I have to ask:

1) What sort of student is the accused?
2) Did the student ever report any incidents of 'bullying' to teachers or the school administration?
3) If so, what actions did the school administration take to address the bullying?

Having said this, WHY 'blame the parents'? Kids can and will ALWAYS 'do things without parental consent'.

I grew up in a home where firearms were readily available to myself, sister and other family members. I endured my share of 'bullying' in school and on the bus, yet NEVER entertained the idea of taking a weapon to school (discounting the times I had a gun in my car becasue I was going hunting after school). back in the 1960s and 70s, bullies were handled after school...with a 'class ring'.
