Zealous opposition to a planned Islamic center and mosque in Murfreesboro would lead some to believe that Tennesseans are intolerant to Muslims.

But a new poll released on Thursday by Middle Tennessee State University says that’s not the case.

The study found that 66 percent of Tennesseans say Muslims in United States deserve the same rights as other Americans. A similar percentage say they either support or would not oppose construction of an Islamic center in Murfreesboro or near their residence, according to a news release.

“Recent news coverage has tended to portray Tennessee as intensely hostile toward Muslim Americans,” said Jason Reineke, associate director of the MTSU poll. “Our findings suggest, though, that such attitudes are not typical of state residents — or at least not typically expressed by them, even when participating anonymously in a survey.”

Nonetheless, the report found that 63 percent of Tennesseans oppose construction of the Park51 Islamic community center planned for construction a few blocks away from the World Trade Center site in Lower Manhattan.

The poll found that the majority of Tennesseans reject the idea of requiring Muslims to register their whereabouts with the government and consider it wrong to profile people as potential terrorists because they are Muslim.

Conducted by MTSU’s College of Mass Communication, the telephone poll of 614 Tennessee adults chosen at random from across the state has an error margin of plus or minus 4 percentage points at the 95 percent level of confidence.

GUARDIAN-Sharia Law proves Islam isn't a religion and it's not a race. It's a political origination like the Nazi that wants to control the world and has been trying for 1400 years to do so. In fact they were allies with the nazi during WW2. The extermination of the Jewish people from the face of the earth was their common goal and it's still the goal of islam today. Islam history is plain and simple. Join us or be enslaved or die. When they attacked us on 9-11 it wasn't to spread their gospel it was to spread their fear to us and around the world to join them or die. Does anyone want to look a fool by saying the pictures from all parts of the world of all islam celebrating 9-11. OH don't give me the good ones didn't do that. No they let their combined silence speak for them. Islamic mosque are built as a sign to all that we have conquered and we are here so bow down. So there you go, you can bow down and join them or remain true to your GOD but there's one thing for sure. If this were a Christian church in their world they wouldn't allow it but they make good use of our Constitution and our good nature.

Maybe that is why the peaceful Muslims choose to live here. They can enjoy the freedom of our country and still follow their religion. I see no problem with that. I have never been threatened by a peace loving Muslim. However, I do see crime every day by peace loving Christians. There is good and bad in all, this paranoia is embarrassing.

Based on past polls, MTSU polls have no credibility whatsoever. They always seem to come out biased or slanted toward the far left liberal view.
