The man who shot and killed himself as police closed in during a burglary Monday morning had previous convictions and recently made suicidal statements to friends, police said.
Police believe the suspect is a 33-year-old male parolee from Springfield, Tenn., who had been convicted on robbery, burglary, theft and DUI in Robertson, Wilson and Davidson counties.
A Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper found the suspect dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound in the 8200 block of River Road Pike on Monday morning after a neighbor told officers of a burglary in progress.
The suspect was out of jail on $27,000 bond following an arrest Thursday when he was charged as a felon in possession of a weapon and driving on a revoked license after a traffic stop.
Metro police are leading the investigation into the burglary and the shooting. They expect to confirm the suspect’s identify Tuesday.
