Teams aim for Spring Fling

Here is an update on what some of our high school athletes have been doing this week.

Baseball

Region 5-A

Goodpasture defeated JoByrns Monday afternoon 15-3 about the same time FRA beat Davidson Academy 10-4.

FRA then defeated Goodpasture Wednesday 10-8 in the sectionals and will now host District 11 champions Cascade, out of Wartrace today at 4 p.m.

Region 5-AA

David Lipscomb defeated White House on Monday 5-4 and Portland 7-5 on Wednesday. The Mustangs will host District 11 champions Marshall County Tigers today.

Region 6-AAA

Overton beat Antioch 2-1 in the bottom of the seventh Monday afternoon and Brentwood High School defeated Hunters Lane 8-3 at Madison's Babe Ruth Field. Brentwood had a repeat performance Wednesday when they defeated Overton 2-1. The Bruins will travel to LaVergne, District 9 champions, to play at 6 p.m. today.

Division II Middle Region

Brentwood Academy defeated Father Ryan 5-3 Monday at BGA.

Father Ryan will travel to Evangelical Christian and play at 4 p.m. today. Harding Academy will play at Brentwood Academy at 4 p.m. and BGA will travel to Baylor for a 5 p.m. game.

Softball

Region 5-A

Monday afternoon Ezell-Harding defeated McEwen 2-0 and Goodpasture defeated Davidson Academy 1-0. The winners of the two games went up against each other Wednesday when Ezell-Harding shut out Goodpasture 2-0 in the regional finals. Ezell-Harding will host Columbia Academy today and Goodpasture will travel to Forrest to play the Rockets. The winners of these two games will move directly on to the state tournament.

Region 5-AA

David Lipscomb defeated Macon County Monday afternoon 6-0. Greenbrier knocked Hume-Fogg out of tournament play when they defeated the Blue Knights 3-0. Lipscomb traveled to Greenbrier Wednesday and shut them out 6-0. Lipscomb will go up against District 11 runners-up Marshall County today at 4 p.m. at home.

Region 6-AAA

Overton and Hunters Lane both have a chance to move on to Chattanooga for Spring Fling after their performances this week. On Monday afternoon Overton defeated Antioch 8-1 while Hunters Lane beat Franklin 5-2, knocking them out of the tournament. Overton then defeated Hunters Lane 3-0 Wednesday in the regional finals allowing both of them to move on tonight's sectionals. Hunters Lane will travel to Beech, and LaVergne will travel to Overton for a 4 p.m. game, with the winners moving on to state tournament play.

Division II Middle Region

BGA defeated St. Cecilia 5-3 Monday and then went up against Brentwood Academy, who beat the Lady Wildcats 9-1. Harpeth Hall had to play Father Ryan Monday following their 11-0 win over USN. The Irish dominated the Bears 8-0 and then went on to a 1-0 Brentwood Academy win on Wednesday.

The Eagles played a double header Thursday against BGA and Father Ryan.

The Eagles defeated BGA 6-1.

Tennis

Region 6 A-AA

FRA's Joey Jensen became the regional winner in the boy's singles category after defeating teammate Andrew Mitchell 6-2, 6-0. Ryan Nikolaus and Nathan Williams from David Lipscomb defeated teammates Mark Dorris and Ryan Long to become boy's doubles regional champions 1-6, 6-3, 6-4. DCA's Gracie Glassmeyer defeated David Lipscomb's Jackie Deal 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 to become the girl's single regional champion and Heather Ezell and Jessie Church defeated teammates Brittany Ruck and Katie Beth Kelly 6-4, 3-6 6-4 to become the regional doubles champions.

Region 6-AAA

Brentwood's Hayley Dittus defeated Jessica Hawk from Franklin 6-0, 6-0 in the girl's regional singles match. Talia Stapleton and Vanessa Avery from Brentwood defeated teammates Courtney Howell and Whitney Howell 8-3 to become the girl
