Police say 16-year-old Lauren Johnson, who was gunned down Saturday in her Chesapeake Drive home in north Nashville, was not the shooter's intended target.

Witnesses said several young black men inside a small blue car allegedly opened fire as they turned from Brickmont Drive onto Chesapeake Drive about 4 p.m. Saturday, according to police.

The teenager, who was in her bedroom, was struck by a single bullet, police said, adding her mother was the only other person in the house at the time. Johnson was transported to Skyline Medical Center where she died.

Detectives are working to identify the person or persons responsible for the shooting. They say they do not believe Johnson, her residence or anyone inside in the home was the intended target.

Anyone with information concerning Johnson's murder is urged to contact North Precinct detectives at 862-7901 or Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME. Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and qualify for a cash reward.

Let me get this straight. Was she "gunned down" or an unintended target? The 10 o'clock news said it was a stray bullet. Please think before you write some bogus headline.
