A 13-year-old boy is in stable condition at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital after he was struck Wednesday crossing Fifth Avenue near Bridge Street in downtown Franklin.

The boy was playing with a group of other children on the east side of Fifth Avenue just after 5 p.m. when he attempted to cross rush-hour traffic to get to the west side. He successfully crossed the two inside southbound lanes that were stopped, and was then struck by a pickup truck in the right turn lane.

Traffic Investigators determined that Fifth Avenue traffic was stopped for a red light when the boy crossed the northbound lane.

The driver, Christopher Lee Bowen, 37 of Fairview, was charged with driving on a suspended license and not having proof of insurance.

He was booked into the Williamson County Jail on a $500 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court later this month.
