Staff reports

The morning after President Barack Obama's dramatic late-night announcement that U.S. forces had killed 9/11 mastermind and former al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, members of Tennessee's congressional delegation are responding.

Bin Laden, sought by the United States for nearly a decade, was shot to death on Sunday in a raid of the mansion in Abbottabad — some 35 miles from Islamabad, the capital city of Pakistan — where it is believed he and members of his family had been staying.

"A small team of Americans carried out the operation with extraordinary courage and capability," Obama said in a news conference late Sunday night. "No Americans were harmed. They took care to avoid civilian casualties. After a firefight, they killed Osama bin Laden and took custody of his body."

As of this morning, it was reported that bin Laden's body had been buried at sea.

Members of the Tennessee congressional delegation reacted to bin Laden's death early Monday morning.

Sen. Lamar Alexander: "Our military men and women and President Obama deserve great credit for their courageous mission to bring Osama bin Laden to justice."

Sen. Bob Corker: “Osama bin Laden's death finally puts an end to an unspeakable reign of terror carried out by the man responsible for the September 11, 2001 attacks and the deaths of thousands of Americans and innocent civilians around the world. We're tremendously proud of our military and intelligence services who successfully executed a dangerous operation that resulted in a major victory for the fight against terrorism. While the threats against the U.S. remain, bin Laden's death sends a powerful message to the world that we will not rest until justice is done.”

U.S. Rep. Jim Cooper: "The death of Osama Bin Laden is a great victory in our fight against terrorism. I am thankful for all the brave men and women who fought tirelessly to help bring this man to justice. We will never forget the horrific attacks on 9/11, but hopefully this will bring some closure and comfort to those who lost loved ones nearly 10 years ago. This does not mark the end of our fight against evil, but it should serve as a warning to all those who chose to attack Americans. No matter how long it takes, no matter where you hide, we will find you and justice will be served."

He probably needs a vacation from all the Kool-Aide drinkers wanting to kiss his ass all the time. Stop puckering, Revo.

As for your society, I'm not willing to pay taxes for anything other than defense and civil services. Why should you or I either one have to pay anyone to sit on their butt and do nothing? Oh, yeah, I forgot, the nanny state is your idea of utopia. Look, I don't have a problem helping those that truly need help but I do have a couple of requirements. First, mandatory drug testing. Second, they do some kind of work for the city and/or state - i.e. picking up trash along streets and highways. Help is one thing. A free ride? I don't think so.

I didn't think you'd like the tax cuts idea but most Dems don't. Explain to me why you don't think Bush's tax cuts should be made permanent so businesses can plan out further than 2 years. Every business owner I know is afraid to hire or spend because they know Obama is going to raise their taxes. How does that help an already failing economy?

Vandy, please explain to me what is so unreasonable to want government in my life as little as possible. Why is it so unreasonable to expect your president to adhere to the Constitution? Why is it unreasonable to expect your employees (the administration and Congress) to realize they work for us, not the other way around? Why is it so unreasonable to expect our government to stay out of our lives and leave us and our money alone?

Come on, Vandy, if what you want is a socialist utopia, flights are available and Delta is ready when you are.

Lookie, lookie lookie, here comes Cookie: "It's the liberal playbook"

Well I searched Barnes & Noble, Amazon and the local lieberry and none of them have "the liberal playbook."

In fact, I'm beginning to believe you have the only copy.

And a collection of sock puppets to go with it, I think.

The only credit you can give Obama is for simply saying; Okay! And it only took him 16 hours to make that decision. It seemshe had to get some sleep for his mind to become intact.

Glad it didn't take any longer, Barry, or whatever your name is.

Oh, wow, that was sooooooooooo funny, HP. Now, go upstairs out of your mommy's basement, whine for your baby bottle of warm milk, and take your meds. You've gone off the liberal Democratic deep end again.

Thank you and OORAH to the brave SEALs who took OBL out. Thank you to BHO for finally making the decision to take him out after 16 HOURS of contemplation. And, yes, thank you to George W. Bush and Dick Cheney for putting the interrogation facilities and methods in place so we could get the intel.

Oh, one other sincere thank you MUST go to President Obama's CIA Director, Leon Panetta, for admitting the interrogation methods put in place by the GWB Administration helped us get OBL. Thanks, Leon, for a rare moment of truth from the Obama administration.
