Two council incumbents lose re-election bids in close races

Two Metro Council incumbents, Jim Hodge and Anna Page, lost their re-lection bids Thursday night, while five other incumbents in the council’s 35 district races are headed to a Sept. 15 runoff.

Challenger Jason Potts had 583 votes to Hodge’s 516 in the council’s District 30.

“It’s pretty simple: hard work,” Potts said of his win.

Hodge told The City Paper he was ready to move on from his service on the council.

“I’d say the Lord has something else in mind for me to do," Hodge said.

Meanwhile, Page — who represents the Woodbine-area District 16 — had 788 votes with all precincts reporting. Challenger Tony Tenpenny, who she has beaten in past elections, had 800 votes.

Page, whose district borders the Tennessee State Fairgrounds, supported Dean’s vision for redeveloping the site. That issue — and the success of the fairgrounds referendum in Thursday's voting — may have damaged her re-election chances.

“I do believe the fairgrounds issue hurt me,” Page said. “And I believe that the lack of education on the fairgrounds hurt me.”

Asked if she could have used more help from Dean in her campaign, Page said: “I needed to stand on my own record.”

JIM HODGE IS OUT!!!!! Good riddance!!! Time for the happy dance.

Unfortunate news about Page getting caught up in the vast fairgrounds ignorance. But NO MORE HODGE!!! Hateful old relic...

Anna Page was a Blessing and to lose her is a great disappointment. She served her constituents well, but clearly Dean did not support her enough during the election.

D20 is just happy to have their Buddy back! Roberts ran a dirty dirty race and in the end the people spoke and it was not for her!

Anna Page got exactly what she deserved, she did nothing for district 16 in her term. I tried to contact her many times concerning the fairgrounds issue and she didn't even have the courtesy to contact me in any way. I voted for her the last time but when you ignore people that you're supposed to represent you need to go. She knew I was for the fairgrounds and she made it clear that she didn't care to hear my voice, I might have voted for her even though she was against the fairgrounds if she had taken the time to listen. Anna, your record isn't very good and that's why you lost....!!

That's just what we need district 16...a "screw you for a dollar" car salesman with an arrest record involving drugs and being a drunk elected to represent our district in public office! I can see where this trainwreck is heading! Way to go...YOU IDIOTS!

So I guess you bought your car hot off the assembly line. Or maybe you bought it from Anna's buddy Bill Pratt at Southeast Jeep who is know longer considered a Chrysler dealer because he ripped off to many customers, not to mention his under the table shady deals. I don't know about you but I know people with a past that have turned their lives around. Me being one of them, so shove your IDIOT comment up your A**....!!
