TSU men fall short in 81-72 loss
Tennessee Tech held on to first place in the Ohio Valley Conference with an 81-72 win over the Tennessee State men before 5,814 at Eblen Center in Cookeville. Senior forward Larrie Smith had 18 points and a team-high 13 rebounds for the Golden Eagles who won the battle on the boards easily, 42 to 18. With the win, the Golden Eagles improve to 17-8 record overall, 11-3 in the OVC. TSU (9-17, 6-8 OVC) was led by senior guard Jamie Roberts with 32 points on 10-of-19 shooting, including 7-of-12 from three-point range.
Peay flies by Bruins 78-74
Austin Peay senior forward Trenton Hassell proved to be as good as advertised, getting 29 points and eight rebounds to lead the Governors past Belmont 78-74 before 1,426 at Striplin Gym. Junior forward Wes Burtner of Belmont did his best to match Hassell
