A grand jury brought formal charges this week against a woman accused of driving drunk and killing a tow truck driver on Interstate 40 in October.
The indictment charged Katrina Cornwell, 35, with one count of vehicular homicide by intoxication, leaving the scene of an accident involving a death and violating the state’s implied consent law.
On Oct. 22, witnesses told police Cornwell’s white Toyota swerved along I-40 near Spence Lane before edging onto the shoulder and striking Eddy McCreery, 44, as he hooked up his daughter’s disabled car to his tow truck.
An Opry Mills Mall security guard later found Cornwell sleeping in her damaged car in the mall parking lot. According to police, Cornwell, of East Campbell Road in Madison, said she drank two glasses of wine earlier.
