Burch: Birthers bamboozled

By Michael R. Burch

Nashville has more than its share of “birthers” who seem to believe that President Barack Obama is some sort of planted Muslim agent. Their calling card is that they love to use his middle name: Barack Hussein Obama. But now their strange assertions have been countered by an unlikely source, Osama bin Laden.

According to a recent Washington Post article by David Ignatius, bin Laden commanded his al-Qaeda associates to assassinate President Obama, calling him “the head of infidelity.”

What will the birthers say now that the central figure of Islamic jihad just refuted their pet theory?

The assassination plot is described in documents retrieved from bin Laden’s compound by Navy Seals the night he was killed. Ignatius was given an exclusive preview of some of those documents, which have been declassified and may soon be available to the public in the original Arabic and translations.

The documents also tell us interesting things about bin Laden’s organization, its failures and perhaps about our government’s as well.

In a 48-page directive bin Laden instructed his top lieutenant, Atiyah Abd al-Rahman, to focus “every effort that could be spent on attacks in America” instead of operations within Muslim nations. But a senior analyst who reviewed the documents pointed out that al-Qaeda “lacks the ability to plan, organize and execute complex, catastrophic attacks.” So with bin Laden dead and al-Qaeda unable to execute catastrophic attacks, why are we still fighting in Afghanistan, especially considering the recent atrocities that have greatly strained an already-frazzled relationship?

The documents also reveal that bin Laden thought his organization has ruined its reputation by killing too many Muslims in its jihad against America. But our government has exactly the same problem.

Bin Laden’s biggest concern was al-Qaeda’s media image among Muslims. He was so worried about this that he suggested finding a new name for the organization. But what has the “United States” come to mean in the region?

Bin Laden mentioned “mistakes” and “miscalculations” by affiliates who had killed Muslims. He told Atiyah to warn every regional leader to avoid such “unnecessary” civilian casualties. “Making these mistakes is a great issue,” he stressed, arguing that spilling “Muslim blood” had resulted in “the alienation of most of the nation [of Islam] from the [Mujaheddin].” Local al-Qaeda leaders should “apologize and be held responsible for what happened.”

Of course the United States has exactly the same problem, but American politicians resist apologizing for even the most terrible of mistakes, making the United States seem arrogant and indifferent even to the deaths of innocent children. Every American death is an atrocity and an “act of terrorism.” But when Americans go berserk and desecrate Korans, urinate on Muslims, or kill civilians, they have PTSD. But what about Muslims who have lived through a decade of hell on earth. Isn’t it possible that some of them have America-induced PTSD? That possibility is almost never mentioned.

Bin Laden also criticized subordinates for linking their operations to local grievances rather than the overarching Muslim cause of Palestine. But the U.S. has repeatedly fumbled the ball on the matter of equal rights and justice for Palestinians, by always supporting the “Israeli Injustice Machine.” Why? Because the pro-Israel lobby wines and dines American politicians and helps them win elections with Jewish votes and campaign contributions. Thus, millions of completely innocent Palestinian women and children continue to be deprived of basic rights, freedom and justice. And therefore, for completely understandable reasons, our name remains Mudd in the Middle East.

Yogi, you inspired this one! I hope it earns a guffaw, or at least a rueful chuckle.

By: yogiman on 3/23/12 at 2:43

Regrettably, I don't have the computer knowledge to forward things I have seen on it to you and your fellow Obama admirers. But the fact that you are so willing to accept an obviously fake birth certificate inclines me to believe you just might know he is in that office illegally and are with him all the way.

As I posted on the other site today, why did the immigration documents for the week of his "birth" come up missing? What happened to them? Why?

And I'm sure you know the birth certificate he so "graciously" showed years after he repeatedly said he couldn't show it is a fake. The hospital shown on his "birth certificate" as the place of his birth didn't exist in 1961. It has also been pointed two twin girls were born in the same hospital the day after the day shown as his birth date, but his number it higher than theirs. Isn't that odd?

As I also noted before, it shows his father's race as African, which as we should know isn't a race, especially back in 1961.

If you are innocently ignorant of the facts that have been given, I hope you can gain the knowledge of just what that man is. Otherwise, just keep on considering me a damn fool racist until the wave comes over the bow of your ship.

You might consider me as a "birther" thinking Obama is a Muslim. Go on Bing and check out 'Barack Obama is a Muslim - Qaddafi'

Tell me what you think. Okay?

By: Mike Burch on 3/23/12 at 4:42

I think I would rather have an intelligent Muslim president than a moronic, warmongering Christian onr. So even if Barack Obama is a Muslim, or even an alien from galaxies unknown, he's much better than the Three Stooges.

Gingrich says "there is no Palestinian" and will probably start WW III.
Santorum says "there is no Palestinian" and will probably start WW III.
Romney will say anything to get elected, and no one knows what he will really do, but he sounds like he wants war with Iran, which could also start WW III.

So it really doesn't matter what race BO is, or even if he's human. We need him to keep the Three Stooges from either killing us quickly by war, or slowly by bankruptcy and robbing us of Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.

Who would you rather have as President: ET or a Christian who loves war and cares nothing for our elderly mothers and fathers?

BO -- whether Muslim or Space Alien -- is the only one who loves your mama, so do the right thing and vote for Obama!

By: Mike Burch on 3/23/12 at 4:46

Seriously, Yogi, I care much more about the health and happiness of my loved ones than I do about anyone's birth certificate.

The real question is not Obama's citizenship, but his leadership. Suppose Jesus Christ returned to earth ... would American Christians decline his enlightened leadership because he doesn't have a piece of paper?

By: yogiman on 3/23/12 at 6:44

I hope you're being rather facetious, Mike, but by pointing out you would rather have an illegal president instead of a legal president who may not meet your personal requirements, makes me wonder where you got your education. You must have majored in writing skills as you're a very good writer, but you sure flunked civics.

If you're serious and really don't see what's going on, I sympathize with you for such ignorance. And if you have a family, I also sympathize with them. I guarantee you aren't going to like it if your favorite alien gets to keep that office. That is, unless you're a true communist since you don't seem to (to be blunt) don't give a damn about the Constitution our founders gave their all to make this nation what is is... right now. But if "Obama" usurps the office again, you can kiss the USA goodbye.

By: yogiman on 3/23/12 at 8:12

Much or Obama's "situation" has been blamed on Bush since day one, Mike. Let's look at a few of the facts. This is just a lil' ol' history lesson so think about it.

The day the Democrats took over was not January 22, 2009, it was actually January 3, 2007 when the Democrats took over the House and Senate at the beginning of the 110th Congress. That the Democrat party controlled both chambers for the first time since the end of the 103rd Congress in 1995.

Now, blaming everything as Bush's fault, think about this: January 3rd, 2007 being the day the Democrat took over Congress, the Dow Jones closed at 12,621.77. The GDP for the previous quarter was 3.5%. The unemployment rate was 4.6%. Bush's economic policies set a record of 52 straight months of job creation. Now; Remember that day.

January 3rd 2007 was the day Barnie Frank took over the House Financial Services Committee and Chris Dodd took over the Senate Banking Committee. The economic meltdown that happened later was in what party of the economy? The Banking and Financial Services, so you can thank the Democrats for taking us from 13,000 DOW, 3.5 GDP and 4.6 Unemployment to this crisis by (among many other things) dumping 5-6 trillion dollars of toxic loans on the economy from the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac fiascoes.

And by the way: Bush asked Congress 17 times to stop Fannie & Freddie, starting in 2001 because it was financially risky for the US economy. Barney blocked it and called it a "Chicken Little Philosophy" (and the sky did fall!)

And who took the third highest payoff from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac? Obama. And who fought against reform of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac? Obama and the Democratic Congress. Especially Barnie. So when someone tries to blame Bush; remember January 3, 2007... the day the Democrats took over Congress.

While Bush may have been in the car, the Democrats were in charge of the gas pedal and steering wheel as they were driving the economy into the ditch.

Budgets do not come from the White House, they come from Congress and the party that controlled Congress since January 3, 2007 is the Democratic party. Furthermore, the Democrats controlled the budget process for 2008 & 2009 as well as 2010 & 2011.

In that first year they had to contend with Bush, which caused them to compromise on spending when Bush somewhat belatedly got tough on spending increases.

For 2009 , Nancy Pelosie and Harry Reid bypassed Bush entirely, passing continuing resolutions to keep government running until Barack Obama could take office. At that time they passed a massive omnibus spending bill to complete the 2009 budget.

Now, where was Obama during this time? He was a member of that very Congress that passed all of these massive spending bills and he signed the omnibus bill as President to complete 2009. Now lets remember what the deficits look=ed like during that period:

If the Democrats inherited any deficit, it was the 2007 deficit, the last of the Republican budgets. That deficit was the lowest in five years and the fourth straight decline in deficit spending. After that, Democrats in Congress took control of spending and that includes Barack Obama.. who voted for the budgets.

If Obama inherited anything, he inherited it from himself. In a nutshell, he's saying: "I inherited a deficit that I voted for and then I voted to expand that deficit four-fold since January 20, 2009."

Which makes me ask: Are you a Democrat... or a dumbocrat?

By: Mike Burch on 3/24/12 at 12:28

The beginning of the real decline is when the unholy Trinity of GWB-Cheney-Rumsfeld decided to invade Iraq on false premises. Before the invasion the price of oil was $27 per gallon. We all know what happened after the invasion. Not only did we waste trillions of dollars on the wars, but the skyrocketing price of oil pushed the entire world into a multi-year recession that still hasn't lifted.

At least one nonpartisan budget watchdog agency estimates that half the national debt can be attributed to the wars.

More wars means our children and grandchildren dying for no reason, while the nation sinks toward oblivion in debt. So ...

If you care about children and your mama,
vote for Obama!

By: yogiman on 3/24/12 at 4:23

Sorry, Mike,

I don't have to worry about my momma any longer, and I don't want my children and grandchildren to live in a communist nation, which is where you're illegal boy Barry is taking them.

Am I correct in presuming you are a devout communist, or should I just accept you political ignorance?

You all might find it interesting The Birthers have set their sights on Mitt Romney.
His father and grandfather were born in Mexico City, Mexico.
Now, it turns out, his great-grandfather had 4 wives and holed up in Mexico to avoid persecution in the United States. As a Mormon who uses polygamy as a sex service.
Yeah, great family tree the acorn nut "Mitt" falls from.

Good story and a good exposé of a sick and demented segment of a sub-society slithering in America.

By: pswindle on 3/24/12 at 10:13

Poor Yogi, he does not have the brain power to understand. He is so hell-bent on his hatred toward our President that nothing else comes through. I have found that most Tennesseans believe this way, and it is going to take us becoming the laughing stock of the world to have this image changed. We were almost there last week when we made national news.

By: yogiman on 3/24/12 at 10:32

I'm hell-bent on my hatred of my President? No, pswindle, I'm hell-bent on convincing you fools what a fake the man is you're calling your president. You're going to be the laughing stock of the nation when your ignorance is brought out.

If you had one iota of sense you would wonder why he won't identify himself. I'm sorry your parents gave you that little pea sized cell for the brain you have.

By: yogiman on 3/24/12 at 10:34

Oh, by the way, want to see a great joke, pswindle? Go on Bing and check out

By: Mike Burch on 3/24/12 at 1:15

Dargent7, that's interesting stuff about Romney's family if it's true, but of course only someone with a birther mentality would judge Mitt Romney for his ancestors' actions.

There are many things that Romney has done himself that we can question him about, such as putting all or most of his Bain holdings in a Cayman Island IRA valued at up to $101 million dollars. No wonder he looked like a fish out of water when he was asked to disclose his tax returns, as his father did. If he shielded half his money from all taxes, his real tax rate is probably around 7%.

Or we would could point out that he panders to the most ignorant and irrational elements in American society, in order to get votes and campaign contributions.

Or that he seems to want to do to Iran exactly what was done to Iraq, for the same reasons.

There are plenty of good reasons to doubt that Romney should be a dogcatcher, much less president, without worrying about his ancestors. But I'm sure the birthers will have a field day, and probably say he was planted by the Mormons to take over the US and make polygamy legal.

By: yogiman on 3/24/12 at 2:50

Good joke, Mike. I haven't seen anything about his great-grandfather but from what I've seen, his father was born in Mexico to American parents.

His grandparents had moved to Mexico because of the laws being enacted because of their religion and his grandfather had numerous wives. dargent7 needs to study the Constitution a little more. Mitt Romney is constitutionally eligible for the office. They only thing that can legally stop him from becoming President is the vote.

By: Loner on 3/25/12 at 6:27

Sunday morning...

Mike, Yogi is beyond help on the Usurper thing...but I liked your article...well-written, as usual.

Maybe Mike Burch, or somebody can tell me why the Wall Street Journal will not accept the following post.

After hitting the submit button, this message popped up:

The language you used does not comply with community standards. Please re-enter.

The story is headlined: Texas Nears Approval of Multistate Nuclear-Waste Dump and it's located here:

Here's the rejected text:

The Lone Star state is now the "Dump-Friendly" state, thanks to that Republican fascist, Harold Clark Simmons...the poster boy for the Dickensian "One-Percenters".

In Texas, the conversation usually revolves around the 4-G's: God, Guns, Gays & Guvmint ....they should add a 5th "G-word": Garbage.

No matter whether it's Household Garbage, Industrial Garbage or Nuclear Garbage, with Harold Clark Simmons calling the shots, Texas is now the premiere dumping ground state in the union of American states.

Maybe we could dump our worst criminals in Texas too? If Texas is soliciting for the refuse of humans, maybe they'll also accept human refuse as well.....the word will get around, if you want to dump something or someone, think Texas.

So, this is what Davy Crockett and Jim Bowie fought and died for at the Alamo? Did those men all die so that a fascist billionaire can pollute the place as he damn well pleases? Did they die to create a dumping ground for all sorts of Garbage?

Perhaps, the place should have remained under Mexican ownership after all.

(End of Post)

By: yogiman on 3/25/12 at 7:27

I think that's a good idea of dumping our worst criminals in Texas, Loner. We can start with the biggest criminal this nation has ever known... going by the name Barack Obama.

And yes, you are right on me being beyond help on my hatred of the usurper in office. I guess I'm just too Constitutional minded to give in to a Marxist.

But we only have a few months left until it all comes out, Loner, so my question is: Is this group already communists along side Obama or are they idiots who will accept themselves as the ignoramuses they're showing themselves to be?

By: Loner on 3/25/12 at 7:38

Yogi....we are on Obama's payroll....once he drops the facade and goes "full commie", those of us who supported him will get the good jobs...you guys will go to the re-education camps....maybe we will meet at the camps one day, face to face....you as an inmate...me as Camp Commandant....don't worry...my camp will be clean & neat...we'll sing Kum-bah-Yah every night around a Commie Campfire....we'll use the Constitution for kindling....you will love it there.

By: yogiman on 3/25/12 at 7:53

You're a good comedian, Loner. It's too bad you can't see beyond your nose on Obama (if that's who he really is). But if you are a genuine ex-GI, I suggest you check out

"The term “natural born” citizen is not defined in the Constitution, and there is no discussion of the term evident in the notes of the Federal Convention of 1787. The use of the phrase in the Constitution may have derived from a suggestion in a letter from John Jay to George Washington during the Convention expressing concern about having the office of Commander-in Chief “devolve on, any but a natural born Citizen,” as there were fears at that time about wealthy European aristocracy or royalty coming to America, gaining citizenship, and then buying and scheming their way to the presidency without long-standing loyalty to the nation.

By: Captain Nemo on 3/25/12 at 9:54

There is no provision in the Constitution and no controlling American case law to support a contention that the citizenship of one’s parents governs the eligibility of a native born U.S. citizen to be President."

By: Captain Nemo on 3/25/12 at 9:58

28 November - The New Hampshire Ballot Law Commission asks Dr. Orly "what part of 'no' did you not understand??"

"For a second time this month, the state Ballot Law Commission on Monday rejected a complaint that challenges whether President Obama’s name should appear on the Democratic Party primary ballot.

Birther credo; who would Jesus berate.

By: Captain Nemo on 3/25/12 at 10:02

This is all the time I have to waste on nothing for now. Later zero.

By: yogiman on 3/25/12 at 11:03

You're right on the fact it wasn't precisely defined in the Constitution, but you're wrong no case has been brought on it since then. You need to look them up.

If natural born had, or has, no different meaning than native born or naturalized, why were those words ever brought into the picture in the by the Constitution writers in the past?

Further, what reason did the Senate of 2008 use to justify John McCain's legal eligibility when Barack Obama questioned his legal eligibility? It was because both of his parents were American citizens.

The question then arises: Why did Barack Obama refuse to answer those same questions?

By: yogiman on 3/25/12 at 11:08

Boo Booed? Drop out "in the" after the word "picture" in the second sentence of the second paragraph.

Thanks, it may help you understand it a little better.

By: pswindle on 3/25/12 at 1:27

Correct me if I am wrong, but President Obama's Mother was born in the United States of America. So what does that make him, "A native born citizen?"
Yogi, There are many citizens of the US that only has one parent that was born in the US, and they are full blown citizens of the this Great Country. If you start telling these people that they are not citizens, you may find yourself in another country. President Obama was born in Hawaii, and if I'm not mistaken Hawaii is part of the fifity states. So Mitt is a citizen although his father was born in Mexico and his wife was born in another country? You just can't make this up, can you, Yogi, you can see what only you can see.

By: Captain Nemo on 3/25/12 at 1:33

There is no way to understand yogi; he is beyond definition or explanation. He is like a lump of yellow jelly from Jelly Stone park. All made up and no where to go. LOL

By: yogiman on 3/25/12 at 1:59

You need to go back to school, pswindle. That is if you ever went as a child, presuming you're an adult.

Let's go by the laws of 1961: Even though his mother was an American citizen, his father was a Kenyan citizen which made him a British subject. To pass her citizenship down to her son, his mother had to be and American citizen for a minimum of 10 years of which 5 of those years had to be past the age of 14. She was only 18 at his birth.

And by the laws back then, if he was born in Kenya as has been considered, she could not have passed her citizenship down to her son. At best, he could only become a dual citizen.

Now, I ask, did you get your citizenship from your father or mother? Did you get your family name from your father or mother?

It boils down to: What is Barack Obama trying to hide?

By: bfra on 3/25/12 at 2:22

Nemo & pswindle - He is nothing but an agitating ole fool that, evidently gets his rocks off by people recognizing what an absolute fool he is. At 80+ (if even that is true), guess that is the only pleasure he has left. In all the time he has soiled this board, he has never posted 1 truth that he can back up with a site. He is a what if? why did?, how come?, ole fool!

It looks like you can't read too well. I have given several points on the issue but you don't seem to have the mental capacity to read them.

But I would think if you're so much smarter than I, as you seem to think, you would be able to readily prove me wrong. But you haven't. All you seem to be able to do is make an Obama favoring comment.

For someone who accepts a person as their president, who refuses to prove his eligibility, proves their ignorance beyond a shadow of a doubt.

Why are you so willing to accept a man that you don't even know if he's using his legitimate name?

By: Captain Nemo on 3/25/12 at 3:11

You are going to hell you lump of yellow jelly for your lies.

Was Qaddafi making the comments he made about Obama just in a play he put on, bfra?

Why was it shown Obama was raised in a Muslim family if he was a Christian?

Since you seem to know so much, I would love for you to educate me on how to read my computer, bfra.
