Burch: Boehner's billion dollar boner

During the recent debt ceiling crisis, U.S. Rep. Jim Cooper, D-Tenn., suggested that in a default the very first people to feel financial pain should be the congressmen and senators who helped create the problem, then bickered and postured rather than working together like mature, responsible adults to fix it.

If government checks must bounce, why not help elected officials understand the people’s pain by starting with their paychecks?

Now, even though a default was averted at the last second, considering the current sad state of affairs we ought to ask ourselves if we taxpayers have been getting our money’s worth when we pay senators and congressmen handsome salaries only to get such ugly results. Take, for instance, what might be called “Boehner’s Billion Dollar Boner.”

President Obama has been advocating a balanced solution that involves revenue increases along with spending cuts. In his rebuttal of the president’s speech about the debt ceiling stalemate, Speaker of the House John Boehner said, “The sad truth is that the president wanted a blank check six months ago and he wants a blank check today. This is just not going to happen.”

Strong words from a strong-minded man? Boehner tried to come across as a tough-talking, no-nonsense realist who’s ready to cut spending to the bone while holding the line on higher taxes. But when his own budget proposal was analyzed by experts, according the Associated Press, it fell wildly short of Tea Party expectations: “Of particular embarrassment was a Congressional Budget Office finding that Boehner’s measure would cut the deficit by just $1 billion next year,” the AP wrote.

So why all the machismo, political posturing and grandstanding? If the best Boehner can come up with is a measly billion dollars in savings for an entire year, when the deficit is $14.3 trillion and still climbing, he has no call to berate President Obama and other Democrats. Our government spends a billion dollars in about five hours. What Boehner admitted — if only we have the ability to read between the lines — is how very difficult and dangerous it is to radically cut government spending in a weak economy.

Democrats didn’t ask for a “blank check,” nor did Boehner improve on their more balanced approach. All he did was stick his foot in his mouth, at a time when Republicans need to admit that a real-world solution to the national debt is going to require the rich to suffer along with other Americans, for a change.

Can Boehner survive his Billion Dollar Boner? Will the Tea Party types ever let him live it down? Only time will tell the outcome of this latest tempest in a teapot.

Yogiman,

BTW, if Barack Obama was some sort of planted agent, he wouldn't have written a book about his origins not being lily-white, orthodox American.

People with something to hide don't draw attention to their deep, dark secrets.

If you add up all the evidence, it makes no sense to believe that President Obama is not who he says he is, because if he was going to lie, he would have said entirely different things.

Mike,

You're right, I am attempting to question Barack Obama's identity. Is he who he says he is? And as I have posted before, I'm simply using his autobiography to raise my questions. His true name means nothing to me factually, but if his legal name is still Barry Soetoro, why is he using his original name? Can Barack Husesein Obama simply be considered a "nickname"? And if he has legally reversed his name back to Barack Obama, why hasn't he announced it?

My argument is still his eligibility to hold the office of President of the United States of America. If he was a natural born citizen, he lost that status when he was adopted into Indonesian citizenship and once you loose your American citizenship, you cannot regain your natural birth stratus.

And if he is who he says he is, why is he being so secretive of himself? When you look into his childhood and his young adulthood, and when all of his friends and influencing elders were known communist and Muslims, doesn't that raise a question in your mind about his personal thoughts and feelings?

Sorry, Mike, it takes more than just a "wannabe" for the presidency of this nation unless you are riding down that road with him.

Give it a rest, Yogi. I mean, he's in the Office; the time for any stopping him on the grounds that he was illegitimate ended on January 13, 2009. Even if he is illegitimate (and I'm not saying he is; frankly, I could care less at this point) what would you do, drag him out of the Oval Office? Can you imagine the race riots we'd have in the streets? We're likely to have those if he's voted out of office in 2012 anyway; or if he remains in office, we capture the Senate, and we impeach him for Project GunRunner - Operation Fast and Furious (a direct link to the Oval Office is under scrutiny by Darrell Issa as we speak)...it could get very messy.

Barack Hussein Obama is in the Oval Office. Our job is to see that he is voted out in 2012, for his terrible failures as the leader of this Republic.

For example, just this Friday, 10% of SEAL Team 6 was killed in Afghanistan; there's already people connecting the dots. Doh Biden on April 24 blurted out that ST6 was involved in the killing of Osama Bin Laden; people noted at the time the failure of the White House to keep Operational Security might be problematic; but BHO trumpeted his 'success' for political gain.

Did that trumpeting cost the lives of members of ST6 on Friday? If that's the case, then George Bush's famous "Mission Accomplished!" gaffe in a flight uniform aboard the deck of an aircraft carrier will pale in comparison to the coming shit-storm BHO and Doh Biden will face.

serr8d,

While I agree with you on most of your "arguments", I cannot agree with you on "dropping the ball" on this issue. You're stating; "even if he is illegitimate..." we should just let him stay in office because of possible riots that might take place. Hell, serr8d, riots are possibly going to take place even if he is not re-elected. I have been reading where race riots are happening all over the world today. We should use the old Boy Scout's motto and be prepared.

Anyone who wants a person in that office simply because they are black, whether they are legally eligible or not, are mentally decrepit.

I agree, if he is in office legally, it is the voters fault. But if he is in that office illegally, it is Congress' fault.

And I'll repeat again, why is he so secretive about his identity? With a Kenyan father and Indonesian citizenship through adoption, just who in the hell is that man sitting in OUR Oval Office?

Yogi, come on.

My sisters both hold dual citizenships. My mother is English and my father is American. There are millions of Americans who have dual citizenships.

I have never heard that Barack Obama has dual citizenships, so I assume that he doesn't. If he did, all the right-wing bigots would be demanding that he renounce his other citizenship.

Do you really think that just because you're afraid of something, it must be true? What about using a little logic for a change?

Your fears are illusory. Some people are afraid of witches, Sasquatch, the Loch Ness monster and UFOs. But there is absolutely no evidence that such things are threats to human beings. Therefore, such fears are irrational.

You have nothing to fear, but fear itself, when it comes to the citizenship of Barack Obama. If he was planted by people who hate America, why would he be trying to defend Americans from the Tea Party? If he wanted to destroy the United States, obviously he would let the Tea Party have its way.

Yogi and serr8d,

One more Republican president like GWB would probably put an end to life as we know it. Sarah Palin has already said we should bomb Iran as a way of "supporting" Israel. Morons never learn anything: that's the essence of being a moron. The Republican party has slid off a cliff since the days of Ronald Reagan. The party is controlled by morons and loons. It's "plan" for dealing with the national debt is the result of voodoo religion and voodoo economics.

Why not vote for President Obama as a form of protest against the Republican party becoming the second coming of Curly, Moe and Larry?

By: yogiman on 8/7/11 at 9:40

If both of your sisters were given dual citizenship status, Mike, why did your parents give you only an American citizenship (or are you actually a citizen of England)?

I can assure you, Mike, I have never had fear for myself in my 80 years of life on this earth. And I have never started a fight in those 80 years, but I have finished 'quite a few'.

My fear of today is for my children and grandchildren, and other honest Americans whom are concerned about their nation's current situation and its future.

For you to willingly accept a person as the president of this nation who is willing to spend millions of dollars to keep his personal records secret tells me you are not a true American because you don't give a damn about who is sitting in its highest office of this nation. Especially when that person will not let the people who voted him in that office know who in the hell he is. Damn, aren't you concerned about who your boss is?

Yes, there is several thousand dual-citizenship people in other nations as well as the USA.

Since you are a "recognized" scholar, I highly recommend you re-read the U.S. Constitution. Concentrate on Article II, Section 1, Paragraph 5. It specifies a person must be a natural born citizen to hold the office of President.

Now, go a little deeper into the matter as I have specified before. Look up the laws of 1961 on the legalities of his mother passing her American citizenship down to her son. At the age of 18, with a foreign father, she could not pass her American citizenship on to her son if he was born in 1961.

And may I repeat, read his "autobiography" ( which is worded exactly like the writings of Bill Ayers, a well known communist neighborhood "friend" of his); "Dreams From My Father". Read where he notes his mother divorced his father, Barack Hussein Obama, Sr., and marries Lolo Soetoro of Indonesia. Also note where Indonesia would not allow him in school because of his American citizenship. Note where his stepfather adopted him and gave him the name of Barry Soetoro so he could go to school in his new homeland.

Also note where he stated his mother divorced Lolo Soetoro. Did he then reverse his citizenship and name back to its original status?

You stated you never heard Barack Obama had dual citizenship so you presume he doesn't. Well, since he won't release any records on himself, what citizenship does he have?

Now please note (I'm sure you have attorney friends), if he WAS a natural born citizen, when he lost his American citizenship when adopted by Lolo Soetoro, he could not get his natural born status back when/if he renewed his American citizenship, therefor making it illegal for him to run for the president's seat.

Shall we go on, Mike?

uh, is this where we go to talk about Boehner's math problems??

simplesimon It is becoming more evident to me that 30 years of the same results, trying the same things to achieve different reesults in insanity, in the purest form, and this is our leadership, scary isn"t it. Well it must not be "selling us out", but rather the politicians have already been paid for before we see the ballots. Scary isn"t it.
