Burch: Bubba's dilemma, a Clint Eastwood moment

Thursday, September 13, 2012 at 10:05pm
By Michael R. Burch

Like most Nashvillians, I will never forget the terrible events of Sept. 11, 2001. I still vividly remember the carnage that day, as two planes destroyed the Twin Towers, another plane hit and damaged the Pentagon, and a fourth plane crashed into a field on its way to the White House, thanks to the heroics of the passengers of Flight 93.

However, unlike many Americans, I am not content to gullibly believe what I am told to believe, so I have never subscribed to the prevailing fiction that the United States was attacked because some “evil” people hate our freedoms and our values, and attacked us because we are “good,” out of sheer spite. Nor am I foolish enough to believe that Islamic jihadists are trying to “take over the world” when they don’t have the armies, navies and air forces required to conquer Spain, much less military superpowers like Israel and the United States.

So why were we attacked on 9/11?

I think the answer is quite simple, and to understand it requires only a little honest reflection on our part. I call it “Bubba’s dilemma.” Please allow me to have my Clint Eastwood moment and address an invisible American redneck.

“Bubba, think of the biggest, baddest man you know — the one you’d never want to tangle with in a million years. Now, what would happen if you mistreated and humiliated his brothers and sisters on a daily basis?”

“Duh, he’d kick my stupid butt!”

Exactly, Bubba.

Men like Osama bin Laden will never accept the bizarre idea that Jews and Christians should be allowed to harm completely innocent Palestinians because God favors Jews and Christians and it is their “Manifest Destiny” to tell other people where and how to live (and die).

Muslims get it, Bubba, and are able to read the handwriting on the wall. You’re the one with ADD.

So it’s long past time to “get a clue,” Bubba. If you care about your brothers and sisters, tell your stupid, evil government to stop harming theirs.

Please don’t get me wrong. The Americans who died on 9/11 were innocent. But their government and nation were far from innocent. Long before innocent Americans suffered and died, Palestinians suffered and many died, thanks to the policies and actions of the governments of Israel and the United States.

If we want peace, we need to understand human nature. Just as Americans will risk life and limb to defend Americans, so Muslims will risk life and limb to protect their loved ones. There is no way to escape this simple reality. If you want to live in peace don’t allow your government to harm and mistreat others.

Yes, it really is that simple, Bubba.

Bn: The righties flip over to their "free speech" advocacy mode, when the speech involves Islam-bashing.....Jew-baiting will not be tolerated in this country....Islam-baiting, however is free speech....go figure.....again, the Helen Thomas effect.

Politicians should not be allowed to take campaign money outside of the the area (district, state or the USA) they are campaigning to "represent".

I'm sure you all get solicitations form people all over the nation. Why give your money to someone running for office in Timbuktu? Especially from a Democrat asking money from an independent?

By: MusicCity615 on 9/14/12 at 8:31

Come one man. Yes there are whackos in the West, but not comparable to the middle east.

By: yogiman on 9/14/12 at 8:37

May I correct you, budlight?

Obama said he had been in 57 states and believed he had one more to go. He didn't say which one it was, though. He apparently didn't know.

And it was commented later (to correct his error) there was 58 "states" in Kenya. Did he think he was running for president in his homeland?

By: Loner on 9/14/12 at 8:37

By: dargent7 on 9/14/12 at 9:22

Oh, Loner, give it up already.
In the 5 years I've been in Nashville, your every post pits Israel against the Palestines and the Zionists against the Israelis and the Arabs against Israel.
I never have no idea what you're talking about. (End snippet.)

I'm sorry to hear that, Darge...just ignore my posts, like we do with Yogi's.

If I haven't made my point about the dangers of the US-Israel special relationship by now, as far as D7 is concerned, then I have failed.....but, in my own defense, how can one lone guy overturn the effects of 64 years of pro-Israel media-generated propaganda upon the American public?

It's a very lonely job.....Mike Burch knows what I'm talking about.

I'd like to think that I have commented on a wide variety of subjects, besides the "special relationship".....D7's hype is showing....or is it jealousy?

Come one man. Yes there are whackos in the West, but not comparable to the middle east. (End snippet.)

MC615 must have forgotten about, the Branch Davidians, Jonestown, Heaven's Gate, Timothy McVeigh and the abortion clinic bombers.....just for starters.

Harry Truman was fine with the idea nuking the Japanese people out of existence....oh yeah, we got our powerful, mass-murdering whackos, MC.....do not delude yourself.

By: BenDover on 9/14/12 at 8:47

Your worst Southern Baptist doesn't hold a candle to Muslim Fundamentalism blanket. Take a visit to relatively well civilized Saudi-Arabia or Dubai and see how it compares to western views on women's rights and homosexuality.

By: yogiman on 9/14/12 at 8:48

I just received a joke from a friend (yeah, I do have a friend, bfra). You can read it an weep.

"Some people say I'm stupid. Really? Here's how "Stupid" I am:

"I was hired by over 69 million voters who didn't even do a routine background check on me. I'm doing a lousy, stinking job with a record number of people out of work. I gave guns to Mexican drug gangs, I kill innocent people all over the world with drone strikes and I decide which laws I'm going to enforce and which ones I won't. I've doubled the deficit, I've ruined out health care system and yet I still stand an excellent chance of being re-hired. That's how stupid I am.

"Now, how stupid are you?"

That's one of the few comments "he's made" he wasn't lying about.

By: Loner on 9/14/12 at 8:48

Since this LTE is all about why we got hit on 9-11, it is altogether right, just and fitting to talk about Israel, Zionism and US support for the Jewish State concept...it is highly relevant to expose how much our federal lawmakers took in bribes from the Israel lobby....D7 may not wish to understand the antipathy that motivates the Islamists....but many of us are interested in de-fusing this faith-based time bomb....and we are running out of time....I suggest that D7 and his ilk convert to Judaism, learn Hebrew and make aliyah to Israel...then join the IDF and go on your killing sprees.....we don't need that Muslim-bashing crap here.

By: dargent7 on 9/14/12 at 8:56

Two points:
The Middle East will NEVER express, espouse, embrace American-wesyern style values. It goes against their Qu'ran.
The Bill of Rights,.... to a Muslim? The Ten Commandments might get a little traction, but NEVER rights for all people and citizens to be treated equally. Women. gays, minorities...there?
They will NEVER embrace the US Constitution and our Bible over their Shari'a Law and Qu'ran.
That's why they are lying saying the US Constitution is compatible with Shari'a Law.
They think we are just that stupid. And, they're right.
And Loner: The cosmology and ideology of Islam is far more pervasive than you and Big Mike give it credit for.
All they've got over there is an 11th century mind-set, desert sand, 120 degree temps and OIL. We wouldn't give a rat's ass about them except they have the OIL.
And we need it despertly and will do anything to get it.
And, they know it and resent us for it.
Ask yourself, why aren't we in Germany, Italy, France, SpainJapan, dictating how their governments should run? They don't have OIL. We try to dictate to China because they have the electonics we need.
It's always "want America wants".

By: Loner on 9/14/12 at 8:58

Muslims have only had about 1,400 years to recover from Muhammad's vicious and brutal mass-conversion-at-swordpoint ministry....we Christians have had 2,000 years to cool our passions concerning a certain Jewish heretic who claimed to be God Himself....in the year 1400 Anno Domine, Christian theocrats ruled Europe and the average Christian was just as nuts as the average Islamist is today.....Islam is actually stuck in the seventh century spiritually...maybe the 15th century politically.

So, what should we do? Exterminate the Muslims Holocaust style? Or should we coexist and respect each other? Or should we just expedite Armageddon by coddling the nuclear-armed Jewish State?

We will let AIPAC decide on what to do.

By: Loner on 9/14/12 at 9:01

Ben, good to see you posting here....though ye be misled, methinks.

By: MusicCity615 on 9/14/12 at 9:05

Thanks for going through America's history and listing 4 or 5 people. I never said the west doesn't have wackos, we certainly do, we there have been 4 or 5 suicide bombers in the middle east this week.

Nice try.

By: slacker on 9/14/12 at 9:06

Loner, I think many people look at the U.S. special relationship with Israel, as providing the U.S. with a military base in the region. About 70% of the U.S. pop. support this as you mentioned, for religious reasons. You know thats not going to change anytime soon. As you'll recall the Dems. had to rush and change their platform at the convention, to accommodate the mentioned souls.
Maybe the upcoming collision with Iran, will sort this mess out.

By: dargent7 on 9/14/12 at 9:08

BN2: The difference between a Western fundamentalist whaco and a Middle Eastern fundamentalist whaco is where they place their dynamite.
A Westerner will put it in a Ryder van, car, or SUV. Add in some fertilizer, light the fuse, and say to his accomplishes, "Step on the gas, you idiot!" and flee the scene.
An Easterner will stick it up his ass in the most crowded place available and stand there to show the world what a dedicated and committed Muslim he is.

By: MusicCity615 on 9/14/12 at 9:09

IT TAKES TWO TO MAKE THIS "PEACE" WORK. Al Qaeda does not want America to exist. You hear chants right now between thousands of muslims in the middle east saying "Death to America" "DEATH TO SATAN"

Yes, there are a few here and there in America that probably want to A-bomb the middle east, but please show me where thousands of Americans have chanted death to the middle east... I'm waiting.

We can ask al quaeda to have peace and joy and slumber parties with us, but they want us dead! They are chanting we are Osama!! and you somehow blame Americans?

No I do not want to go to war, I want PEACE. But you cannot think that America is at fault for everything!!!

By: gdiafante on 9/14/12 at 9:15

An Easterner will stick it up his ass in the most crowded place available and stand there to show the world what a dedicated and committed Muslim he is.

No, he will show the world what a misguided religious nutjob he is. Again, you assigning that one Muslim equals all Muslims is getting old.

If your belief held any traction, American Muslims would be in the streets here.

By: yogiman on 9/14/12 at 9:19

Your 8:50 post was giving pure history. And I hate to say it, but if Barry Soetoro aka Barack Obama stays in office, we will follow Germany and Russia into dictatorship.

It's true, not all people support the man that takes over the government. They are killed, but the dictatorship can only last so long. I believe when Fidel Castro dies, Cube will try to regain their freedom unless his brother want's to remain dictator. I gathered he was quite different from Fidel.

When we went in war with Japan after the Pearl Harbor strike, Americans (especially the children) were taught to hate the Japanese. That's like the government creating the Department of Education to teach all the children the same subject all over the nation, which equals communism.

When I went to Japan in service, I learned not all of Japan's citizens hated the USA. They even acknowledged the dropping of the H bomb for stopping the war.

Consider the GIs that were on their way in when the bomb was dropped. Truman gave the Emperor knowledge of the bomb and dropped the first one when he ignored it. He still refused to surrender giving him a chance to save many thousand lives. He refused and the 2nd bomb was dropped. That convinced him Japan could be wiped off the face of the earth if he didn't surrender.

That bombing took place to save thousands of GI's lives. Yes, it did cost thousands of Japanese their lives, but it saved our GI's lives.

I've talked to many men who were en-route and it took a lot of pressure off of them when their ships turned around and headed home.

By: gdiafante on 9/14/12 at 9:20

I agree, Music, it takes two to tango, and until the moderate (and sane) factions of Islam can control the extremists, what else can we do? Bomb them back to the stone age...aren't they already there?

If there was a simple solution, we'd be talking about Jay Cutler's meltdown last night instead of global riots.

OK then, how about we include the millions of Southerners who thought that the right to own African Negro slaves was a right worth fighting and dying for? That's more than just 4 or 5 people....they took up arms against the Constitution of the United States of America and replaced it with a slavery-friendly constitution...go read it.

MC615, America has a long history of mass hysteria and embracing whacko causes....we broke from the crown over a reasonable tax on tea and tried to blame the native Americans for the Boston Tea Party....armed, deceitful & dangerous...that's our tragic legacy.

By: slacker on 9/14/12 at 9:24

Taxation without representation?

By: BenDover on 9/14/12 at 9:28

Loner... the Contrarian Historian.

By: gdiafante on 9/14/12 at 9:29

You're wrong on that, Loner. It wasn't a reasonable tax because we weren't represented when it was instituted.

By: BenDover on 9/14/12 at 9:29

Good to see Kegs and Eggs advertised on this site. That's usually a lot of fun on Game-Sunday mornings even though I don't often go to the games.

By: Loner on 9/14/12 at 9:30

Slack, the idea that we need Israel, as a military base in the region is pure baloney....we have forces in the Mediterranean, the Gulf and in the Indian Ocean that are all capable of responding to any threat in the Middle East within minutes, if necessary. Unlike the case in Germany, only a handful of regular us armed forces personnel are stationed in Israel...they are their to get "trained" by the Israelis.

We are sharing our most sensitive military secrets with Israel...a nation state outside our union of states and a non-member of the NATO force structure....we are trusting a traumatized Jewish theocracy with nuclear weapons....and now we have given the Israelis a missile shield that is the world's most sophisticated.

Israel has the nuclear sword and now they have the shield.....they do not fear mutually assured mass destruction....and they are still seething with anger over the Holocaust....they want to vent their anger on the Iranians now....this is crazy stuff.

By: BenDover on 9/14/12 at 9:33

We back Israel to maintain balance of power in the region.

By: Loner on 9/14/12 at 9:35

Hey Israel gets representation without taxation and nobody in America is alarmed by that....but a reasonable tax on tea, in exchange for protection by the crown (protection from Indian attacks....French & Indian War etc) was hardly sufficient justification for a violent rebellion, IMHO.....arguably, the Canadians now have more freedoms than we Americans enjoy....and nobody had to die to "win" these freedoms....we have long been a rather trigger-happy nation....that makes us "exceptional", I suppose.

By: slacker on 9/14/12 at 9:36

Loner, we're entrusting New York city to Israel, we might as well have a military base there. Do you think Iran should be allowed to have the bomb?

By: Loner on 9/14/12 at 9:38

By: BenDover on 9/14/12 at 10:33

We back Israel to maintain balance of power in the region. (end snippet.)

More baloney....there is no balance of power in the region...the cold war is long gone, Ben. Israel and the US exercise near total hegemony in the region.

By: slacker on 9/14/12 at 9:39

We do share our ''exceptional'' military with the Canadians.. frees up a lot of cash for the ''Hosers'' to buy beer.

By: Loner on 9/14/12 at 9:47

By: slacker on 9/14/12 at 10:36

Loner, we're entrusting New York city to Israel, we might as well have a military base there. Do you think Iran should be allowed to have the bomb? (End snippet.)

When hizzoner Mayor Bloomberg ran for a third term he took out full-page ads in the Jerusalem Post that boasted the NYC was "the world's largest Jewish City". Maybe so.

Let's "transfer" the non-Jewish population of NYC to points outside the city limits....ethnic cleansing, Israeli-style....then we can invite all the Jewish Israelis to come to NYC and become citizens of Bloombergia....the new Jewish State in America....then we pull all aid to Israel as an inducement to come to NYC...I mean Bloombergia.

The citizens of Bloombergia would pay US taxes, get 2 US Senators and about ten US Reps.....not quite the unanimous support that the Jewish state in Palestine enjoyed, of course...the 51st state: Blombergia......any feedback on that?

By: Loner on 9/14/12 at 9:48

Blombergia s/h/b Bloombergia....sorry about that, Mayor Bloomberg.

By: Loner on 9/14/12 at 9:55

"Should Iran have the bomb?" Of course not...but neither should Pakistan, India, North Korea, China, France, Russia, Great Britain, Israel and the USA. In theory.

The nuclear arms race is well underway in the Middle East and elsewhere....the Iranians just want a "get even" doomsday weapon, so as to keep the bellicose, nuclear-armed Israelis from attacking them...can you blame them?

Israel has engaged in more pre-emptive wars than any other nation in history....they don't wait to be hit...they strike first.....trouble is...they are nuts and see enemies everywhere, all the time.

By: slacker on 9/14/12 at 9:58

Loner, I think after the war, Truman should have deeded the state of Nevada to the Jews.
It would have been cheaper, and we wouldn't miss it. I mean we gave the Mormons Utah. fair is fair.. No?

By: yogiman on 9/14/12 at 10:01

When you read an idiotic comment from one of these brilliant posters, just use common sense; consider the source and ignore it.

There is a select few on this site that feel this is their personal site and everyone else should stay out of it. When they buy NCP out, I'll honor their purchase. But until they own it, I'm going to have my say, also. They don't have to read it but I'm going by the same amendment to our Constitution they're claiming their privilege from.

But you must understand, we aren't the brilliant idiots they are.

By: dargent7 on 9/14/12 at 10:03

gD: May I suggest you get cable.
All terrorists worldwide, are Muslim. Not a Catholic, Baptist, Methodist, among them.
They BLOW THEMSELVES UP in their "jihad" or statement.
This shit's been going on for 10 years...read the papers or watch the news...car bombs, bus bombs, people bombs, bazarre bombs, police recruiting station bombs, church bombs, mosque bombs. How much data do you southerners need to make an informed decision and conclusion? 10 more years?
What are you waiting for? Jesus to come to you and say everything's going to be alright?
The Nation of Islam and Muslims are at war with the world.
And you want an Astrodome sized mosque built at Ground Zero? Are you insane?

By: slacker on 9/14/12 at 10:07

Loner .. Bugsy Siegel coulda been the first President of Nevada/Zion.
It woulda worked I tell ya.

By: jvh2b on 9/14/12 at 10:07

I'm gonna come to your defense here Loner - when I first joined this board I had no idea the way our Israeli overlords ruled us with all that money - yet you make good points and can back up your points with facts (unlike most on here). So if darge can't see that - that’s his own fault. Besides - lately I'm pretty sure darge is off his meds - he swings wildly some days but usually has an informed/exucated opinion - except on the Muslims (and sometimes the gays [unless I've misunderstood sarcasm]) - the Muslims are all bombers to him apparently. Anyone who can't see that there is some seriously bad influence coming from our special relationship simply doesn't want to see it.

That being said - I say lets get out of their way and let them destroy themselves. The fundies will kill each other out and leave the moderate smart ones who decide not to get in the way or group together and over power the radicals.

Oh and Ben - I'm calling BS on your Southern Baptist vs Muslim post - while I wholly acknowledge most SB (having grown up in one of their churches) don't think that way - if women’s rights and the gays were left to their leadership - women would be stay at home baby factories (like in the Muslim counties) and the gays would all be in conversion therapy) and subsequently committing suicide (hey we didn't pull the trigger -- they did!) for having to deal with all that bull.

By: yogiman on 9/14/12 at 10:15

Excuse me Loner,

You're saying Mitt Romney is not presidential in his actions and words. Please, I beg you, explain to me how Barry Soetoro aka Barack Obama is great in that seat? I'll admit, he is a good comedian when he makes a remark like he said Romney didn't have any experience to be president. Was his groupie job such a great pre-office position?

You, like many of your co-posters are showing you share the ignorance you're claiming others to have.

By: Loner on 9/14/12 at 10:21

Thank you, Jvh2b...it is comforting to think that I am getting through to some folks out there...again, I am not a Jew-hater, if I were I'd support the idea of concentrating them all in Palestine...easy annihilation that way. Zionism is counterproductive to its stated goals.

My objection to the special relationship is grounded in love and concern for this country and its people, not in hate for the world's oppressed Jews.

I feel like I'm watching a very slow train wreck....these modern Holy Wars may extinguish the light of reason in our species....forever....we stand on a nuclear precipice and people are talking about the hereafter.....it's nuts.

By: yogiman on 9/14/12 at 10:24

I hope all of our Ambassadors arm the Marines in their compound. That female Ambassador that ordered the Marines in her compound to stay unarmed should be sent home. Who would want to serve with such an idiot?

By: jvh2b on 9/14/12 at 10:26

Oh I'm positive if the human race kills itself off - religion will be at the center of it. I'll give the writers of the 'holy' books that - they could at least see what the fanatasicm they were making up would lead to.

By: yogiman on 9/14/12 at 10:43

Won't Bloombergia give Barry 59 states to control? He was claiming 58 when running for office in Kenya... excuse me, I meant the US.

By: MusicCity615 on 9/14/12 at 10:48

Mike Burch writes many articles about Republicans and their crazy ways with their "attacK" on women, their homophobia, and their Christian beliefs, yet he will defend to his death the Palestinian people, who.... literally attack women for adultery (or if a cloak doesn't fully cover their face), kill people for being gay, and will blow themselves up in honor of jihad and the belief that they will get to F*ck 72 virgins.

Mike, explain yourself.

By: Loner on 9/14/12 at 10:52

Sadly, JV, the Western world seems bent on fulfilling the Abrahamic prophecies...just give a listen sometimes to the "Christian" radio shows.....End Times fanaticism is right here folks....these zealots support Israel, no matter what; they put the Hebrew Bible on a higher plane than the US Constitution, yet they wrap themselves in the flag.
And anyone who calls them out on this gets labelled a "Jew hater".

Our federal government has sold out to the Israelis.

Our Christian clergy consider the Jews to be our spiritual superiors and overlords...they, not we gentiles, are the God of Abraham's Chosen People...anyone who disagrees is a "Jew hater".

Our major media are all owned and operated by Israel-friendly elements...look what they did to poor Helen Thomas for speaking the unvarnished truth on that.

Put it all together: our politicians, our government, our clergy and our media are all very much pro-Israel....Israel's support is bipartisan, deep and wide in this country.....a lot of work went into this charade, and it's working beautifully.....we have been duped and few Americans are able to see this and speak out....those who do are soon marginalized as "Jew haters".

By: yogiman on 9/14/12 at 11:02

I believe we might be similar to some of our thoughts. You say you aren't a Jew hater, but you're constantly demonizing them. So you apparently have a reasonable reason to hate Jews in your mind. And I haven't read much from your co-posters claiming you to be wrong.

Yet you, and others claim I hate Barack Obama because he's black without any evidence for that claim and you, and your co-posters back your claims not even knowing what you're talking about.

I have stated, and I repeat, my reason of "hating" the man going by the name Barack Obama is he is illegally sitting in my (our) White House. You have claimed me to be wrong, but have offered any proof I am wrong.

You should read that joke I posted earlier. It tells it like it is. By your willingness to accept the man as your president even though you have no idea who he is shows absolute ignorance to the Constitution of this nation.

Prove me wrong. Prove Obama is in that office legally. He won't and you can't , yet you accept him with open arms.

By: Loner on 9/14/12 at 11:12

MC615's 11:48 post is filled with BS....I'll let Mike Burch clean out that stall....

Empty Chair Debate Time:

My questions to Mr. Romney:

"Thank you, Governor Romney, for taking my question. Sir, your support for Israel's right to exist, as a Jewish state, is well known; how then does the state of Israel have a right to exist, but the Israeli fetus has no right to life?..... Sir, you have never spoken out about the state-sponsored abortion clinics in Israel and you have never threatened to withhold US aid to Israel, because of these state-sponsored abortion mills....Sir, can you explain this paradox....this double standard....this contradiction?"

What's that, sir? No sir, I am not anti-semantic.....can you please answer my question?

( Cut to commercial break. )

By: yogiman on 9/14/12 at 11:23

The next 55 days are going to be interesting. The major media keep claiming Obama is way ahead of Romney, but what I'm 'hearing', Romney is ahead of Obama. And I'll readily argue anyone who votes for a man when they have no idea who in the hell he is deserves what they will get.

If it gets to the point Barry thinks he might not win, don't be surprised in the doesn't try to take over control under martial law. And don't be surprised if Congress allows it to happen.

Some of them made the comment they didn't stop it in 2008 because of a possible race riot. Bull, what will stop a race riot by the minority in 2012 except the majority?

For those of you that know Dick Morris (who was a big Clinton man), should look him up and read what he says about what Obama wants.

Wake up, children. It's time to get a little bit of education.

By: slacker on 9/14/12 at 11:25

I like it Loner. I see a reality tv show there.. ''Question The Mitt'' show.
Maybe get Sandra Fluke to host.

By: Captain Nemo on 9/14/12 at 11:33

MC615 the mad bombers in the west are nuts like yogi and bud. They shoot their mouth off without ever a thought as to what they are saying. Any rumor true or false rumor give them the power over others just as much as any explosive.

I have even started on the damage the likes of Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck does.
