Burch: Bubba's dilemma, a Clint Eastwood moment

Thursday, September 13, 2012 at 10:05pm
By Michael R. Burch

Like most Nashvillians, I will never forget the terrible events of Sept. 11, 2001. I still vividly remember the carnage that day, as two planes destroyed the Twin Towers, another plane hit and damaged the Pentagon, and a fourth plane crashed into a field on its way to the White House, thanks to the heroics of the passengers of Flight 93.

However, unlike many Americans, I am not content to gullibly believe what I am told to believe, so I have never subscribed to the prevailing fiction that the United States was attacked because some “evil” people hate our freedoms and our values, and attacked us because we are “good,” out of sheer spite. Nor am I foolish enough to believe that Islamic jihadists are trying to “take over the world” when they don’t have the armies, navies and air forces required to conquer Spain, much less military superpowers like Israel and the United States.

So why were we attacked on 9/11?

I think the answer is quite simple, and to understand it requires only a little honest reflection on our part. I call it “Bubba’s dilemma.” Please allow me to have my Clint Eastwood moment and address an invisible American redneck.

“Bubba, think of the biggest, baddest man you know — the one you’d never want to tangle with in a million years. Now, what would happen if you mistreated and humiliated his brothers and sisters on a daily basis?”

“Duh, he’d kick my stupid butt!”

Exactly, Bubba.

Men like Osama bin Laden will never accept the bizarre idea that Jews and Christians should be allowed to harm completely innocent Palestinians because God favors Jews and Christians and it is their “Manifest Destiny” to tell other people where and how to live (and die).

Muslims get it, Bubba, and are able to read the handwriting on the wall. You’re the one with ADD.

So it’s long past time to “get a clue,” Bubba. If you care about your brothers and sisters, tell your stupid, evil government to stop harming theirs.

Please don’t get me wrong. The Americans who died on 9/11 were innocent. But their government and nation were far from innocent. Long before innocent Americans suffered and died, Palestinians suffered and many died, thanks to the policies and actions of the governments of Israel and the United States.

If we want peace, we need to understand human nature. Just as Americans will risk life and limb to defend Americans, so Muslims will risk life and limb to protect their loved ones. There is no way to escape this simple reality. If you want to live in peace don’t allow your government to harm and mistreat others.

Yes, it really is that simple, Bubba.

Explain why it is BS.

QTM...Question The Mitt....I like that, Slack.....Fluke's got the hooters and sharp tongue...she'd be perfect as the pot-stirring "moderator"......getting the Mitt to sweat would give the questioner a certain amount of points....we'd wire-up the Mitt with those sweat-sensors.....a big, megatron-like, Sweat-O-Meter would let the live audience and the folks at home know just how cool the cucumber really is....or isn't.

So you don't have an answer, but you want Mike Burch to do it for you?

I call your claim of having legit reasons to repudiate my question BS. My proof? you're not saying anything.

OK...OK...the gauntlet has been thrown down...the glove has smacked the face....the chip has been knocked off the shoulder....the red line has been crossed....the lone one has been challenged by MC615....let us review the situation.

By: MusicCity615 on 9/14/12 at 11:48

Mike Burch writes many articles about Republicans and their crazy ways with their "attacK" on women, their homophobia, and their Christian beliefs, yet he will defend to his death the Palestinian people, who.... literally attack women for adultery (or if a cloak doesn't fully cover their face), kill people for being gay, and will blow themselves up in honor of jihad and the belief that they will get to F*ck 72 virgins.

Mike, explain yourself.

MC615's 11:48 post is filled with BS....I'll let Mike Burch clean out that stall....

Stay with me....MC615 then posts two contradictory statements:

Explain why it is BS.

That demand was followed by this contradictory statement:

And Loner, Mike Burch is a big boy. He can explain his blind hypocrisy himself.

As they say....."Which way is it gonna be, boy....which way is it gonna be?"

I'm waiting on your response.

I have already answered MC615's burning question...here it is again:

By: MusicCity615 on 9/14/12 at 1:20

what's your reponse to my question, nazi?

By: Blanketnazi2 on 9/14/12 at 1:23

What exactly is your question.

By: Loner on 9/14/12 at 1:25

But...before I ride off into the setting sun....let me respond to MC615:

MC615 wrote: "Mike Burch writes many articles about Republicans and their crazy ways with their "attacK" on women, their homophobia, and their Christian beliefs, yet he will defend to his death the Palestinian people, who.... literally attack women for adultery (or if a cloak doesn't fully cover their face), kill people for being gay, and will blow themselves up in honor of jihad and the belief that they will get to F*ck 72 virgins." (End quote.)

According to MC615, the "Palestinian people" are guilty of three crimes...here are the charges:

1. The Palestinian people attack women for adultery (or if a cloak doesn't fully cover their face).

2. The Palestinian people kill people for being gay.

3. . The Palestinian people will blow themselves up in honor of jihad and the belief that they will get to F*ck 72 virgins.

Let us examine the bovine feces under the microscope of truth....point by point.

Charge #1. ". The Palestinian people attack women for adultery (or if a cloak doesn't fully cover their face)."

According to this credible source, that's not quite the case:

Source: http://www.dhushara.com/book/zulu/islamp/ash/ash.htm

According to this source, there has been, in Palestine, "a gradual change in the attitudes of parents regarding the education of their Palestinian daughters since the middle of the 1970s. From the middle part of the 1970s, several numbers of Palestinian women achieved education from universities, instead of only receiving education at the secondary level. Reasons for the change of parental attitude were the "increased demand for women on the labour market", changes in the status of the economy in the West Bank territory, the "economic interests" of the parents, and the idea that a well-educated Palestinian woman has a better place and opportunity on the "marriage market". In addition to this, armed with earned education, an unmarried daughter can financially support herself and her parents." (End quote)

Charge #2. "The Palestinian people kill people for being gay."
Certainly religious zealots will use their faith as cover for murder...but to condemn an entire people as homophobic killers is pure BS...it's Muslim-baiting.

Some claim that Israel is a regional beacon of light on the GLBT issue; but the facts point otherwise. Here is a snippet from an Israeli newspaper, Haaretz:

At the recent 'Gay Olympics' - the World Outgames in Copenhagen, Denmark - Tel Aviv was crowned one of the exclusive gay capitals of the world and proudly celebrated by the Israeli ambassador in Denmark.

Five days later, a still unidentified gunman killed two people and wounded a dozen more in a gay drop-in center in that very same Tel Aviv.

The attack was followed by a myriad of articles on the homophobia haunting Israel and a Haaretz poll showing that nearly half of the Israeli population believes homosexuality is a perversion.

Charge #3. "The Palestinian people will blow themselves up in honor of jihad and the belief that they will get to F*ck 72 virgins."

Imagine that, an entire people want to blow themselves up, so that they can have sex with 72 virgins in the hereafter....and this sex-related death wish is allegedly shared by all the Palestinian people, regardless of their age, sex, marital status, physical condition etc. According to MC615, the entire Palestinian people share this same fantasy. That is quite absurd.

The 72virgins myth is wide-spread. Here is a snippet from a source that debunks the suicide=72 virgins myth:

So where did the reward of 72 virgins in paradise for suicide come from? Are there any Islamic teachings we can point to endorsing that?

When we look at the highest authority in Islam, the Quran, we find nothing in it endorsing rewards for suicide. Instead we find the strongest condemnation with severe punishments for those who commit suicide. When we look at Hadiths, which after the Quran is second in authority in Islam, we find nothing in the authentic Bukhari and Muslim Hadiths endorsing suicide. Instead we find strong condemnation for it.

Searching what Muslims refer to as Gharib Hadiths (weak or strange Hadiths) we do find something about 72 wives but not virgins. The Hadith we find is the following:

Sunan al-Tirmidhi Hadith 2562 says:

The Prophet Muhammad was heard saying: “The smallest reward for the people of Paradise is an abode where there are 80,000 servants and 72 wives, over which stands a dome decorated with pearls, aquamarine, and ruby, as wide as the distance from Al-Jabiyyah [a Damascus suburb] to Sana’a [Yemen]“

This is as a weak Hadith that has no Sanad — line or sequence of narration. Although listed in an authoritative collection, this particular Hadith has technical weaknesses in its chain of transmitters and is therefore not considered impeccable. As a result, Muslims are not required to believe in it. Even if the Hadith was true, there is nothing about it that says that if someone commits suicide they would get 72 virgins in paradise." (End snippet)

There, that completes our examination of the charges...as I said it's pure BS.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 9/14/12 at 1:27

uh....ditto. I can't follow up that act!

By: BenDover on 9/14/12 at 1:43

This constant self-flagellation of western culture is the acme of absurdity.

When people try to kill us we don't apologize. We kill them back.

By: BenDover on 9/14/12 at 1:46

By: MusicCity615 on 9/14/12 at 1:49

thank you Loner,

Now I know that "several numbers of Palestinian women" have becom educated... you call that a success? Why cant' all Palestinian women receive all the education they want?

I'd like to see how many gay pride parades there are in the middle east versus America. I'm betting America wins that battle.

I don't care nor do I want to know what is going through a suicide bomber's reasoning for blowing himself up- whether it be 72 virgins or not. Point is, Al Qaeda and the Taliban are some of the most brutal savages on this Earth, and the 17 beheadings last week on Afghanistan citizens for DANCING proves that. Some Christian denominations don't appreciate dancing, but they would never behead 17 civilians for doing it.

Again, when Mike Burch claims that the MAIN reason for 911 was because America favors Israel over Palestine, why is Mike Burch blindly defending people that advocate hatred over so many people?

By: dargent7 on 9/14/12 at 2:00

"We kill them back.." Spoken like a true Republican Nazi.
We're $16 trillion in debt, chasing our tails all overr the Middle East, have an upcoming election that neither candidate is qualified for office of president, and your, as well as 50% of America's answer is, "We kill them back".
Enjoy Hell on Earth. No need to wait until you're dead..

By: Blanketnazi2 on 9/14/12 at 2:02

The literacy rate of the West Bank region is very high. 91.9% of the male and 96.3% of the female population above 15 years of age are able to read and write.

A long-awaited federal study finds that an estimated 32 million adults in the USA — about one in seven — are saddled with such low literacy skills that it would be tough for them to read anything more challenging than a children's picture book or to understand a medication's side effects listed on a pill bottle.

MC615, Palestine may not be as backward as you think.

By: Loner on 9/14/12 at 2:06

Really, I did not actually believe that I could persuade or dissuade MC615 with my researched and sourced comment...I did it for the benefit of those whose minds are still open.

And Doctor Dover is doing his best John Wayne...or is it Clint Eastwood?

MC and Ben Dover ought to follow up the bravado with action....join the armed forces of Israel or the US...or become a Blackwater privateer....if this is a war between cultures...a war between us...the good guys...and them....the bad guys...a war to save the Judeo-Christian world from Sharia enslavement....then gentlemen, by all means get thee to an enlistment station...Pronto!

Echoes of Country Joe......Yeah once again, Uncle Sam is in a Hell of a jam....way down yonder....in the Holy Land....don't be bashful...don't be shy.....say hello, to the Spirit In The Sky..

Loner, this is proof that ignorance is a choice. When you show someone the facts (often times, repeatedly on this board) and they still spew the same old unfactual crap, they are choosing to be ignorance. Maybe ignorance is blissful in their world.

By: MusicCity615 on 9/14/12 at 2:09

I don't think Palestine is backwards, I'm sorry if I appeared to be in favoritism on Isreal.

I just want to know why Mike Burch fails to undertand that, according to him, Palestine's biggest supporters are Al Queda and the Taliban, who without argument, are very very brutal people.

I want Peace. I don't want to tell people how to live their lives, and I don't want people telling me how to live mine, as long as I do it peacefully. Al qaeda does not want peace, they want to destroy anything but islam.

Not all muslims feel that way at all, but how can Mike Burch be such supporters of Palestine when their main backers are al qaeda and the taliban?

By: Blanketnazi2 on 9/14/12 at 2:14

OH, ok - now I see where you're coming from.

By: Loner on 9/14/12 at 2:14

Ignorance as a choice? Hmmmm....very interesting, blanketed one.....that may be a chapter in my upcoming book, Self-bullshitization, look for it soon...sure to be included on the prestigious New York Times Best Smeller list.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 9/14/12 at 2:18

I will start off by saying that Palestine should be given its own territory. IMO the reason why Al Qaeda and the sort fight for Palestine is because Palestine cannot defend itself against Israel and their big brother friend, the U.S. I don't think we should have any involvement but for various and obvious reasons our government is.

Israel repeatedly attacks and goads Palestine knowing that the U.S. is supporting them. They keep taking more land and making life miserable for Palestine. It's these actions that make terrorist groups such as Al Qaeda attack us.

I do not think that all Muslims are extremists or that all extremists are Muslims. I do not defend their actions or apologize to them - I simply understand why they do it.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 9/14/12 at 2:19

LOL, Loner! Actually, in many cases ignorance is a choice. This board is proof of that! I call those people "immune to knowledge." LOL

By: yogiman on 9/14/12 at 2:31

Are you a racist calling MusicCity 615 "boy". Loner?

By: Blanketnazi2 on 9/14/12 at 2:34

Music615, do you think we have a right to ask Israel to not occupy Palestinian territory and to acknowledge Palestine's statehood? Israel is the aggressor and since we always have Israel's back so to say, the retalation ends up on our doorstep.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 9/14/12 at 2:43

That has been my frustration with this whole film thing. A Coptic Christian presents himself as an Israeli Jew and goes to an unstable Mulsim state - Libya - and starts crap with them. Our Ambassador is assasinated in the process. Palestine and the Arab nations are so sick of Israel being a bully and the U.S. having their back that they get very angry and retaliate. Sure, there's freedom of speech but with freedom comes responsibility. You wouldn't go to someone's house, start an argument and sh!t on their floor and expect nothing to happen, would you?

By: yogiman on 9/14/12 at 3:01

I don't know your age or what you was taught as a child in school, but I do remember how children were taught when I was a child in school. We were taught read'in, wright'en and 'rithmatic by teachers that loved the children they were teaching and you got your a$$ whipped if you earned it. And you sure didn't want your parents to hear about it.

The parents of today have been taken under control by the government and the teachers can't whip a child's a$$ anymore.

That was in the 30s and 40s for me at a time when every school made the choices of what they wanted to teach their children and the teachers had choices of what to teach, also. Then the government took over and created the Department of Education requiring all children to be taught the same subjects in all schools.

That was the start of bringing communism into our society. Many of the children of today aren't getting much of an education except in private schools. One of the biggest problems is the teachers' unions whose members are only in it for the money.

On this teacher's strike in Chicago I've heard some of the teachers "talking" and it's hard to understand what they are saying.

By: slacker on 9/14/12 at 3:01

By: Loner on 9/14/12 at 3:06

IMO, it is too late for the 2-state solution....it is dead...give it a rest....the idea was killed when the Israelis constructed their "Separation Fence", which is in reality an apartheid wall....this wall physically stakes out Israeli territory in the Occupied Territories...hundreds of thousands of Israelis have colonized the land grabbed in 1967.

Adding to the futility of the 2-state solution is the fact that Israel has claimed, with full US backing, the City of Jerusalem as its eternal and UNDIVIDED capital city...US support can be found in the 2012 US political platforms and in US Joint Resolutions.
The Palestinians also claim Jerusalem as their capital city....there's the snag.

Factor in US and Israeli demands that any future Palestinian state would not be allowed to have an army, navy or air force....nor have control over its own ports and airspace...and the proposal becomes even more absurd.

This Palestinian "state" would consist of disconnected reservations for native Arabs, the Pals would need "papers" to get in or out of their reservations.

How could such a "state" prosper in peace? Who would accept such a raw deal? The Arabs of Palestine are under occupation, but they are not fools...the 2-state idea is a very raw deal for the Arabs of Palestine.

By: Loner on 9/14/12 at 3:15

The one-state solution is the only fair alternative....consensual annexation of the OT....and full Israeli citizenship for all who now live there...share the land...integrate the IDF which is at present nearly all-Jewish.....share the prosperity, never mind the, "2 states for 2 peoples", baloney...that's 19th century racist talk...time to give it a rest....the Jews and the Arabs are one people...there is just one human race, for God's sake....we are all one people....except for Sasquatch & Big foot, of course.

By: Mike Burch on 9/14/12 at 3:21

If the terrorists are attacking Americans out of spite, over differences of religion and values, why aren't they attacking every nation with a large Christian population?

Clearly, the US was attacked because the US keeps interfering in the daily lives of people in the Middle East. Most men want to protect their mothers, wives, sisters and children from other men who are out to harm them.

So as long as our government is harming Muslim women and children, we should expect some Muslim men to attack the US in return.

South America is predominately Christian, but South American nations are not under constant attack by Islamic terrorists because their governments are not trying to dominate the Middle East. Our government is.

By: Loner on 9/14/12 at 3:26

Slack....these folks are stuck in the Middle Ages spiritually...they crave theocracy, not democracy.....you can't change that many minds all at once..... reformation must come from within.....that could take centuries....Muhammad and his henchmen stripped the Arabs of their traditional cultural values and spirituality...any one who resisted lost their head....the genetic pool that resulted from these mass be-headings is quite shallow....the descendants of the surviving Arabs have been shit-scared of Allah ever since.....their clergy exploit the centuries old fear for personal gain....it's a theocracy all the way. The average Arab has to wake up and smell the cappuccino on his own....we can't smell it for him/her.

By: Mike Burch on 9/14/12 at 3:30

I'm not going to defend anyone who kills someone else over religion.

However, most acts of terrorism against the US have very little to do with religion. To my knowledge, none of the 911 conspirators cited religion as a primary motivation. The ones who were captured and interrogated by the FBI cited Israel's terrible treatment of Palestinians and the US government's injustices in the Middle East.

All around the world, if one man harms another man's loved ones, there can be hell to pay. The same thing is true for nations. Israel and the US have ignored the human rights of Muslim women and children, and have caused millions of them to suffer, and many of them to die prematurely. To cause the premature death of innocents is murder.

Nations that murder women and children should expect to get kicked in the teeth. 911 was retribution for a half century of wild injustices in the Middle East. The men who plotted and carried out the attacks explained why they did what they did, but the American public refuses to listen, and so we continue down the path to Armageddon.

By: Loner on 9/14/12 at 3:34

Excellent point, Mike....why aren't the Islamists targeting the millions of Christians in South America?

The South Americans tend to smoke, drink, party, dance, sing, fornicate and exhibit their bodies provocatively....but no Islamic attacks on these "satanic" states. How come?

Obviously, if Christians do not try to exploit and dominate Muslims, then coexistence is very doable....the South and Central American examples are clear evidence of that.

Thanks, Mike for pointing this out.

By: slacker on 9/14/12 at 3:40

Loner, well stated, and I do understand that. It doesn't appear that anything is going to stop the collision that about to occur with Iran and Israel. The results will probably settle the Palestinian question.

By: MusicCity615 on 9/14/12 at 3:45

Mike Burch-

Al Qaeda has bombed London trains, they bombed Spain's trains, they have attached India, they have attached churches in Africa....

See the trend? They bomb everyone that is not muslim, especially Christian nations.

By: Mike Burch on 9/14/12 at 3:46

I think it's an important point.

White Americans once had a hard time understanding why Native Americans went on the warpath, and why African Americans didn't just submit to their enslavement. When a Native American or African American got "uppity," it would frustrate the superior whites and they would respond with whips, fetters, etc.

Was the main problem religion, or injustice? Obviously, the main problem was injustice. When Native American men and African American men saw their women and children being abused, some of them chose to fight.

I think the same thing is obviously true in the Middle East. Islamic terrorists are not attacking us because they hate our religion or our values. They are attacking us because our government's wild injustices cause their women and children to suffer, and many to die prematurely.

But Americans (like Germans during WWII) do not want to admit that our civilians are dying because our government has been harming and killing innocent women and children. So the American public has adopted the ludicrous idea that men thousands of miles away will risk their lives to attack us out of sheer spite.

But the reasons were obvious, in hindsight

By: slacker on 9/14/12 at 3:47

Loner.. Sasquatch would throw his shoes at you for the non-human insult, but the big dope doesn't own any.

By: Loner on 9/14/12 at 3:53

If Israel strikes Iran pre-emptively, it could set of a chain of events that include nuclear chain reactions before it's over....if Russian nuclear technicians are slaughtered by the Israelis in a foolish nuclear strike...the Russian bear might just nuke Tel Aviv...or even Dimona...the Israeli nuclear complex....clean up at Dimona, after a nuke hit on the nukes would be impossible...this would be beyond any dirty bomb....this would be a filthy bomb....nuclear fragments scattered for tens of miles....toxic gasses released to the winds.....the existential threat to the Jewish state might be realized after all....and quickly....their missile shield could not withstand a Russian attack....they are playing with fire.

By: Rasputin72 on 9/14/12 at 3:54

Today we received a lot of comments on how to save the world from mayhem, murder, sex motives, cultural racism and of course my favorite bullshit.

The point that most comes to mind is no different than when you were a boy and a person named Tom became your friend. On the other hand a boy named Horace threatened and did beat you up if you did not give him half of your lunch money.

In reducing the current situation with Jews,Zionism,Arabs,Muslim,Negroes,Hispanics,Christians, caucasians I would not care which of these robes Horace wore or which robe Tom wore. Horace is my enemy and he must be stopped from taki ng my lunch money.

I am going to start taking my lunch to school in a lunch box complete with a thermos inside. When Horace comes for his daily take he is going to get smashed in the mouth and nose with a Hopalong Cassidy lunch box.
I somehow find the Muslims to be no different than Horace. Killing a U.S.Ambassador is more than a country with the military might of the United States should take.

Now whether or not someone is Washington is bold enough to come up a plan that equates to the same result as a "Lunch Box to the Mouth" is very suspect.

Obama is a communtiy organizer and a person who believes that Horace can be talked out of taking half of the his lunch money. How little Obama and our Harvard educated cowards know about those that were raised on the same underclass formula as our own.

Reasoning is a sign of weakness to Horace and his Muslim look alikes. Apologizing for even being alive is another sign of weakness to Horace. Having Tom pay part of the blackmail is a sign of weakness to Horace.

Horace must be dealt with on Horaces terms.
