On which side of the BMI v. Pandora do you fall?
The making of music is equal to baking beans and selling them by the cans full. Like the growers of the beans who sell them to be baked, musicians and their song producers are entitled to receive money in producing the music for listeners.
That may be the most ridiculous comparison I've ever read. Perhaps it's best for yogi to remain quiet and thought a fool rather than opening his mouth and proving it as fact.
The music business has been playing catch-up to technology for almost 20 years. Napster was the tip of the iceberg, so to speak. Of course the PRO's are restless, that's what they do. I can see both sides, but the PRO's can't apply the equations of standard radio to online streaming. It's apples and oranges.
Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, gdiafante.
I presume you have a job to earn money to pay your expenses to live. So what kind of job do you have? Is it factually any different than making money through music except for it's difference from making music?
I am glade to see you back on line gdia. It has not been the same site without you.
When it comes to being stupid, Comrade yogi is over baked. I think his North Korean handlers over did not consider just how dumb their subject was. They used methods far beyond the need it would take for yogi’s simple mind.
Thanks gdiafante for a logical comment. Let's hope that trend continues for a good discussion today.
The same lame come backs from Comrade, yogi are so old to start with and his continues misuse of them makes them like fossilize dinosaur crap.
I'm not going to get into an argument with yogi regarding this issue. If he can't understand the difference between music publishing/licensing and baked beans, that's his problem.
I'm sorry you didn't see the meaning of my comment, gdiafante, so let me put it this way: Making money by any method is only different from other methods.
I think we agree we all make our money to pay for our way of living by different methods, be it making music, rowing a tourist boat, playing a sport or baking beans after they have been grown by a farmer who grew them to make money.
The music industry needs to figure out how to evolve with the changes in technology. There have been pros and cons - one of the pros is that musicians now have the opportunity to gain exposure through places such as Youtube and Cloud.

Kosh, what is your address? I have some people who need a place to stay and some food to eat, so I want to know if you mind if they just show up and start living at your place and living on your dime?
Don’t give out your address to this old hag. She is alread taking some of your money, in her roll of Government Waste now. lol

" I have some people who need a place to stay and some food to eat,"
Your kids giving you trouble?
Sorry, dumba$$, but I'm afraid I'm not close to you on your stupidity.
Was I asleep and we landed in Korea? During all of my awakened hours I can only remember flying over Korea on patrol. And I didn't drink during our flights.

And by the way, B2, I'm still waiting to be re-educated on Barry's eligibility.
There is no ay to re-educate a fossil turd.
That's a good point, Blanket. As Dylan said, the times they are a changin'...
Thanks for pointing out my yogi...yogi. Korean. After all you are the expert on that Commie country.
g, the way I look at it is that you can waste your time litigating and fighting it or you can spend that energy figuring out a way to work with the new technology in order to create a benefit for yourself.
Blanket, I have a theory has to why the Music Industry is behind the time on Tec knowledge. They only look to the next quarter in earnings. They can never see farther than that into the future.
The problem is that the music industry is not adapting very well. They're going kicking and screaming.
And, you could argue that they should...the internet is basically eliminating the middleman...an artist now doesn't need the industry, they are their own self-contained label, publisher and studio. I think the last bastion of the old industry are the PRO's. Licensing is always an issue.

Asking Kosh for his address was a rhetorical question and you are the old Hag, nemo. Kosh knew it was rhetorical; so why didn't you? Too stupid? Yep.
And I work for every dollar I earn (aka recoup) from the gov-ment.
You are not smart enough to do the job I do. You're not even smart enough to be here so why don't you sign off?
g, I agree. Copyright admin would still be a necessary thing for the writers.
Sure you do but.
Kosh knew that my post was rhetorical, bud. Does this mean that you are stupid?
Only South Korea, dumba$$. Being a southerner I would not fly over North Korea.
How do you enforce the copyright laws?
That is just what a Commie agent would say....Comrade yogi.
If any of you have the time over this weekend, here's a few good shows:
You can follow part 1 with part 2 on down the line to part 18. Enjoy!
Nemo, I'm not completely sure. I used to have a good friend who worked in copyright administration. It seemed pretty complicated to me!
They enforce the copyright laws like they do the immigration laws, dumba$$. They just ignore them.
For one, they need to update the laws. Given Congress, it's not likely. They aren't smart enough. The only other recourse is litigation. So really, it's about the side that has the deepest pockets.
I have to agree with gdia. Congress is too involved with its fight, to destroy the Democrats and freethinking people.
Yeah, there's a lot of legal in's and out's to the music industry - it's pretty complex. I don't even pretend to understand all of it. I don't like Pandora because of the limited skips. Not a fan.
I'm old school, blanket. It's not about licensing or anything for me, it's about quality. The internet has destroyed sound quality. They've compressed and clipped and reduced the dynamic range so much it is ridiculous. Give me analog recordings (2" magnetic tape) on vinyl and a quality hifi system and I'm a happy guy.
I agree - analog recordings have so much more depth.
The internet is good for folks like Justin Bieber. LOL
I am old fashion, when it comes to my music. I like CD's. Ten years ago that statement would be silly. Today it is a fact.
The new trend is Plastic. Go figure.
By the way, you may have to go to Bing or Google and click in 'the series hes a communist' for your weekend shows. There is 17 parts on the issue.
Blanket - Somewhere in a remote barn would be a good place for Bieber & his ilk!
bfra - a barn won't work. It's not soundproof.
LOL - If it is remote enough, it could work.
People have broken minds along with net worth
Your mind can only be broken if you believe the intended breaker. Think for yourself, guys, unless, of course, you don't have enough brain to think for yourself with.
These advertising links embedded in the comments suck.
I like Pandora so BMI can choke on it.
Congrats Ben. You're in the running for the dumbest post of the day, along with all past and future posts by Yogi. Congrats.
I Have another stupid question, gdiafante, and I hope you have the answer.
In his autobiography, "Dreams from My Father", Barry made note of being adopted by his Indonesian stepfather and became an Indonesian citizen.
Why didn't he, in that book, mention when he gave up his Indonesian citizenship and became and American citizen?
Knock yourself out.
