Up for Debate: To catch a catfish

Thursday, January 17, 2013 at 1:46am

On a Wednesday a fascinating report surfaced of a tangled web of deception involving Notre Dame's star linebacker Manti Te'o and his girlfriend that didn't exist. That report lead to more exposure of the practice known as catfishing, basically using a fake online persona to deceive someone. What do you make of the media reports — first the Deadspin article, then the other previous ones that perpetrated the myth? What do you think of Te'o — was he a victim or a hoaxer?

Loner, poor frustrated Bob, should switch to the other Nashville daily.
Bob's.. prudent, remarks.. would be welcomed by the intellectuals that post there.

Yogi goes to sleep at night, with Obama on his mind....if he dreams, it's a BHO-related dream....when he awakes each morning, his first thoughts are usurper-type re-runs from the day before...and before...and before.

Yogi's always up early and posting his same old crap, day in and day out.

If he wasn't so mean and hateful, he would be pitiable...he appears to be a very miserable old man....instead of mellowing....he rotted.

Slack, you mean the Tennessean? I think that I'm still registered there, but I do not frequent their boards. A bunch of tea-baggers, right? God, Guns, Gays & Guvmint....the Coonskin Cap 4-G Network, if I recall.

Panama Canal? Jimmy Carter gave the Panama Canal away. Anyone born in the canal zone, is an alien. Only recognized in area 51.. and the drained Erie canal area.

So a child born being the son of a British subject is a natural born US citizen, eh, gdiafante?

Does that mean anyone born in the USA is a natural born US citizen? First, how do you know where he was born? Was Barry born in Hawaii as he claims now, or was he born in Kenya as he claimed in his autobiography? So my question remains, where was he born?

Let's presume he was born in Hawaii, which he claims now but defies in his book: How can being born to an American mother and a Kenyan father make him a natural born American citizen? How can a person of dual citizenship be a natural born citizen?

And if he was born in Kenya as he claimed in his book, his mother was too young to pass her American citizenship down to him, so where did he get justified natural born citizenship status from?

By: slacker on 1/17/13 at 10:15

Loner that's it. There's an assortment of regular characters there. You have to sign up with Facebook to post there now.. I believe.

By: gdiafante on 1/17/13 at 10:24

Does that mean anyone born in the USA is a natural born US citizen?

Yes. If you read 1401, what you seem to think about Obama (that has been debunked) only applies to someone born outside of the U.S. And since both of Obama's birth certificates have been authenticated, the case is closed.

Now, you do understand what I just put forth?

By: BenDover on 1/17/13 at 10:27

As I've described so many times before, the means of murder and assault are highly fungible. When denied firearms the criminal will resort to the next available means at hand; and bans like firearm restrictions typically remove the means of the weaker to defend against the stronger.

Case in point:

By: gdiafante on 1/17/13 at 10:34

Ben, what you're arguing is that since there's an element that won't obey laws, we shouldn't have laws.

And, while we're at it, let's escalate the firearms situation in this country. Since it's possible for someone to illegally obtain a powerful assault weapon, we should immediately meet this challenge by purchasing an even more powerful weapon than they have...and so on and so on.

Let's just issue Gatling guns to every citizen and call it a day? I know...then the criminals would just start carpet bombing us, so the only answer is a nuke in every home...

Make it so, Congress...

You didn't read the link did you...

By: gdiafante on 1/17/13 at 10:41

Nope. I don't have to. I can read your talking points at Fox or the NRA's website.

By: yogiman on 1/17/13 at 10:44

Sorry, gdiafante, the case hasn't been closed. First, Obama's birth certificate(s?) have not been officially authenticated.

Second, let's presume he was born in Hawaii (as he claims after claiming he was born in Kenya in his autobiography). He was adopted by his Indonesian stepfather and became an Indonesian citizen. When did he repatriate his citizenship back to the USA? When did he change his name back to Barack Obama from Barry Soetoro... or has he?

When did it become a law for a natural born citizen to re-become a natural born citizen after they had released their natural born citizen status to become a citizen of another nation?

So, is Barack Obama still an Indonesian citizen or an American citizen. I don't know, do you... honestly?

You keep accusing me of being a racist. Am I copy-catting from Obama? What does he mean by his racist remarks in his "Dreams from My Father" book?

www.youtube.com/watch?v=li77cU3jsFs&NR=1/ Try it, you might not like it.

By: BenDover on 1/17/13 at 11:22

You won't read those point I made anywhere else, gd.

And the link was for levity not confirmation.

Gotta go for the day. You guys have fun. I'll try to check back in tonight.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 1/17/13 at 11:37

g, it's like trying to reason with a toddler.

yogi, where was Rahm Emanuel born and raised?

By: Blanketnazi2 on 1/17/13 at 11:39

So, according to the Up For Debate topic, Rasp is a catfish, not a troll. I guess that fits, afterall he is a bottom feeder.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 1/17/13 at 11:47

For Most Of Its History, The NRA Actually Backed Sensible Gun Regulation

In 1934, the group’s president Karl T. Frederick testified in support of certain gun regulations that later made it into the National Firearms Act of 1934, one of the first federal gun laws. The law regulated “gangster weapons” used by organized crime, such as machine guns and short barrel shotguns.

By: yogiman on 1/17/13 at 11:50

Regarding Emanuel, B2,

I don't know and I don't care. He can be from Timbukto and be eligible for his mayor's job.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 1/17/13 at 11:56

So you're finally going to acknowledge that he was born and raised in Chicago? Because previously you claimed he didn't even live there.

By: Loner on 1/17/13 at 12:00

Slack, I don't do Facebook.

The NRA reasoning is along the lines of fighting fire with fire...or, firearms with firearms in this case....too many bad guys with guns? Then put more guns in the hands of the good guys....that's their standard response on the issue. Guns & ammo makers agree....so does most of Congress....but that could change....non-gunners are standing and fighting for their rights too....and I believe that they outnumber the gunners....Congress could have an epiphany....we shall see.

I hate to tell you this, gdiafante, but Snopes and Fastcheck are in Obama's back pocket. If not, why did they give him so much money on his run for office? So what makes you think they would tell the truth about him.

I hate to tell you this, gdiafante, but you're young enough to see it through and if you aren't a fellow communist with Barry you're going to be very shocked and madder than hell because he fooled you so much.

Ask yourself the question; if I was running for that office, wouldn't I be willing to show all of my papers to prove I'm legally eligible? Haven't you ever wondered why he refuses to show any of his papers?

I don't feel sorry for you, gdiafante, because of your acceptance of someone you don't even know as your president, but I do your children for what they are getting in their near future.

By: yogiman on 1/17/13 at 12:12

Wanna have a little fun, gdiafante? Got to:

web.archive.org/20040627142700/eastern.net/hedlines/news26060403.htm/ and see what the Kenyan newspaper said of him. Were they lying about his citizenship?

By: yogiman on 1/17/13 at 12:35

Want a little more fun, gdiafante? Interested in what his paternal grandmother said about him? Try: www.scribd.com/doc/18010847/berg-v-obama-kweli-shuhubia-affidavit/

Was his grandmother lying? Why would she?

C'mon guys... 'Death by Motorboat' gets no love on this forum?

I figured we'd be 3 deep into gay piano bar jokes about this by now.

By: dargent7 on 1/17/13 at 1:23

This ND linebacker's story is all bull****.
Never met the girl.
And she's his 'soul mate"?
What's up with the Big Ten these days?
Ohio State is banned from bowl games going 12-0 and now this.
At least at Michigan we had sex consentually.
And often as possible too.

By: dargent7 on 1/17/13 at 1:30

Loner: As the resident expert on Hawaiian affairs, I can tell you he's Samoan.
Looks just like Jr. Seau. RIP.
The tats give it away. All Pacific Islanders have tats like he has.
Probably has 5% Hawaiian blood in him.
Obama has 9%.
Last time I checked, I had 2%. From my mother's side.
And I'm not even jewish.

By: yogiman on 1/17/13 at 2:01

Want another little fun show, gdiafanti?

Was that Egyptian ambassador lying in his comment about Obama's religion? What did he mean when he made such remark?

By: bfra on 1/17/13 at 2:09

The whiney mass of putrid blubber just keeps posting his inane trash that helps Obama, way more than it hurts him. NOBODY likes a whiney LIAR!

By: yogiman on 1/17/13 at 2:13

Let me give you and your fellow Obama admirers a little something the think about, gdiafante.

After Obama's eligibility had been brought up starting in 2007, it was not "looked into" by any state official for question in the 2008 election.

Questions were continued for four years and several states made the remark they were going to pass a law requiring everyone to prove their eligibility to be placed on their state's ballot (TN was on that list). Yet, every one running for an office was allowed on every state's ballot without question of eligibility. Haven't you ever wondered why no one is questioned about their legal eligibility?

By: bfra on 1/17/13 at 2:18

More putrid blubber tripe!

By: yogiman on 1/17/13 at 2:58

Well, bfra, how about proving me to be a liar.

Don't just claim me to be one, prove it. You've make the comment several times that you've referred proof to me your man Barry is eligible but for some reason, I just can't remember them. How about repeating one more time and I'll post your information on my computer so it will be available instantly when I need it.

That's if you can remember what you've posted before. Thanks in advance.

By: bfra on 1/17/13 at 3:25

More putrid blubber tripe, does NOT merit an acknowledgement or response.

By: dargent7 on 1/17/13 at 3:30

"...prove me to be a liar..."
Well, the guy won two national elections.
Only a marginalized few nit-wits still hold on to the notion of "Birthers".
If you had a brain or a single hemisphere, you'd realize Obama was duly elected.
Even if from Kenya, Mars, or worse, Detroit.
Contrast him with GW Bush and Cheney.
Those two lying hyenias should be in prison for what they did to America.
What has Obama done to America?
He actually cries at effigies for slain children. Bush read a teleprompter.
Get us OUT of Iraq for one and will Afghanistan soon.
Wants to protect our children from lunatics who need 30round mag. semi-autos and AR-15's bought in parking lots for rabbit and duck hunting.
So, what then?

By: Captain Nemo on 1/17/13 at 3:38

Glad your back on line Blanket.

Death by motor boat is way over rated.

By: bfra on 1/17/13 at 3:40

d7 - Bush didn't just use a regular teleprompter, his had a phonic enhancer because Bush couldn't read.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/17/13 at 3:42

Let me give you trolls some advice, you are the biggest losers and we won.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/17/13 at 3:44

That is true bfra. Bush kept losing his place, with a teleprompter.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 1/17/13 at 4:04

Yes it is, Nemo. I still have 7 lives left.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 1/17/13 at 4:06

Actually, I was on my yacht having high tea with the Queen and Princess Kate. Neither have never heard of Ray.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 1/17/13 at 4:06

s/h/b Neither have heard of Ray. LOL

By: yogiman on 1/17/13 at 4:13

Then why did you acknowledge you had read it and responded, bfra? Just give me a simple answer, that's all I want. Proof.

By: bfra on 1/17/13 at 4:16

Putrid blubber is babbling again!

By: Blanketnazi2 on 1/17/13 at 4:20

The blubberhead has never heard of vetting. What a freakin' imbecile.

By: bfra on 1/17/13 at 4:33

slacker - Hope you told Joe, I said "hello" & what was his take on gun control?

By: slacker on 1/17/13 at 4:43

bfra, didn't get a chance to discuss my theory on dissolving triggers with Joe... Hillary Clinton walked in and asked if I had time to discuss Benghazi.
