Up for Debate: Dean's campaign backing

Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at 11:38pm

What do you think about the news that Mayor Karl Dean's campaign was the biggest supporter of a "grassroots" group touting his property tax hike, fair enough or disingenuous?

That video of Michelle Obama at a 9/11 ceremony passed around the Internet by email a year ago has new life. It’s the CSPAN clip in which some people say it looks like Obama is saying “All this for a damn flag?” to the President.

This time the email accompanying the video affirms that indeed, Obama did say “all this for a damn flag.” The proof: “The video was presented for translation to a lip reading instructor at The River School, a Washington D.C. school for the deaf,” the email claims.

Except, no. That didn’t happen. PolitiFact checked with Nancy Mellon, director of The River School, to be sure.

[T]he River School doesn’t teach lip-reading, Mellon said, and no one from the faculty has provided any interpretation of the video.

“It’s definitely not us,” she said. “We would never try to do anything like this.”

The best part: Because of the email’s high circulation, The River School had to put a disclaimer on its website about it. “Please be advised,” it says, “that The River School was not involved in any translation services for a recent video clip currently circulating on the Internet.”

Rasp and yogi are so gullible!!!!

Like many chain emails we've checked, this one is so flimsy that it needs to fabricate its credibility. Critics of Obama are free to speculate about the first lady's words, but the "damn flag" translation was not done by anyone at the River School.

Surprised! No.

By: slacker on 7/26/12 at 1:12

nazi, do you know if anybody ever asked her what she said at the ceremony?

By: yogiman on 7/26/12 at 1:26

Please correct me if I'm wrong..., and I sure you will. From what you posted, the school boss said it didn't happen (because they wouldn't want to be held responsible for possible liability). And they may also be Obama fans. But it had been brought up the day it happened when I was watching the event. So, did it, or didn't it?

So who was right, the first accuser or the last denier?

By: yogiman on 7/26/12 at 1:35

You accuse me of being a "birther". Tell me, if Barack Obama is in that office legally, why does he refuse to identify himself. And don't say he has.

Too many of his papers have been proven to be false. And for 17 years his literary agent advertised him being born in Kenya, Why?

Also, why has the Kenyan paper written articles ab out him being born in Kenya? I doubt if you have seen all of the data I have on him. But it simply boils down to the point if he was in that office legally this topic would have never came up.

Would you like some references about him to read? I've got plenty. And one of them is his paternal grandmother stating she was in the room with his mother when he was born. Was she lying?

Hell, would your grandmother lie about you? (don't answer that)

By: Beernazi on 7/26/12 at 1:51

yogi, everything you have ever posted has been proven false. You just refuse to acknowledge the facts due to whatever biases you hold. So, showing you AGAIN is an act of futility.

By: Beernazi on 7/26/12 at 1:54

The majority view was that she said, "It's amazing how they fold that flag." Others thought she may have said the words, "I wonder if they flew that flag."

Either version comports with a statement released by Kristina Schake, Michelle Obama's communications director (via Media Matters):

The First Lady was commenting to the President on how moving and powerful it always is to watch all that America's firefighters and police officers do to honor the flag. It was an emotional moment on a powerful day and she was awed by the ceremony and all that the flag symbolizes.

By: slacker on 7/26/12 at 2:19

nazi, not sure.. but she seems to be saying...''damn I'm hungry..and you're insisting we boycott Chick Fil A''

By: Beernazi on 7/26/12 at 2:27

Personally, I thought she was saying "That's the last time I pick up your underwear off the floor, even if you are the President."

By: yogiman on 7/26/12 at 2:29

I'll readily admit, I'm not as knowledgeable on computer use as you and your fellow posters on this sight. But I'll challenge you on Constitutional knowledge and the legal eligibility of becoming President of this nation.

You all have called me a racist, but you don't even know me. I call you a racist because the only reason I have read about anyone voting for Obama is because he's the first black man to enter that office.

You don't know his legal name, you don't know where he was born, you don't know where he received his Social Security number, you don't know what passport he used to enter Pakistan in 1981 when Pakistan refused to allow and American in their nation. So why are you so willing to accept him as your President when he continues to refuse to identify himself??

By: Beernazi on 7/26/12 at 2:31

yogi, you really have a very limited world view if you truly think that EVERYONE who voted for Obama did so because he is black. That in itself shows how ridiculous your arguments are. I couldn't care less if he were black, purple, Martian or whatever.

By: Beernazi on 7/26/12 at 2:33

yogi, every one of your arguments above have previously been refuted on this board. Every single damn one but you still refuse to face the facts due to your biases. Repeating the same lies day in and day out obviously convinces you but it doesn't work on the rest of us. If you had any sense you would do your own research without bias, which you obviously have not done. Your rants are ignorant which is why people mock you.

By: Beernazi on 7/26/12 at 2:45

yogi, since you have limited computer experience, let snopes.com be your friend. See the link above concerning Obama's trip to Pakistan in 1981. Once again, your claim is FALSE.

By: yogiman on 7/26/12 at 2:48

I also don't look at a man's race, only the man. I don't know where you got your information on his legality but let's look at a couple of simple issues.

If he was born in Hawaii to a Kenyan father, he was not born as a natural born citizen. Dual citizenship at his best.

If he was born in Kenya as his paternal grandmother said, his mother was too young to pass her American citizenship down to him.

But let's say he was a natural born citizen. When his stepfather adopted him to become an Indonesian citizen, he lost his American citizenship. And once you lose your citizenship, you can only get it back through naturalization. He could even still be an Indonesian citizen.

So the question remains: Just who in the hell is he? You know who he is? Show the papers to prove it, he won't.

By: Beernazi on 7/26/12 at 2:49

In fact, Pakistan was not refusing Americans entry in 1981. Show me where that happened.

By: Beernazi on 7/26/12 at 2:51

yogi, g and I have BOTH answered those concerns, in fact several times over. You just refuse to accept facts. So, how do you care to address the two new lies you spewed today? The lie about the lip reading and the lie about entering Pakistan? Are you willing to admit that your information was incorrect on both counts or are you going to cling to your ridiculous conspiracy theory crap?

Here's a copy of the court documents showing Obama is a citizen and refuting the claim that Philip Berg presented to the court.

Q: What’s wrong with Birther jokes?
A: Birthers don’t think they’re funny and other people don’t think they’re jokes.

By: Beernazi on 7/26/12 at 3:20

you just might be a birther if …

1) you think a clever alias for a stealth muslim is “barack hussein obama”.

2) your boycott of hawaii doesn’t interrupt any of your plans.

3) you prefer online grand juries ’cause it gets kinda stuffy under your white hood.

4) you’re sure all birth certificates are printed in australia.

5) you think the “white house” means exactly that.

6) you think “dismissed without prejudice” means your case wasn’t racist enough.

7) the deli counter guy asks “american or swiss?” and you say “vattel!”

8) hawaii’s health dept has your phone number on call-blocking.

9) you’re “damn shure” you’re a natural born citizen ‘cuz both your parents are brother n’ sister!

10) you don’t believe everything you read on the internet — just the really friggin’ stupid stuff.

By: Beernazi on 7/26/12 at 3:41

His endless repetition of stupidity is insufferable!

By: yogiman on 7/26/12 at 3:44

I'm afraid those two snopes reports do not identify him as a natural born citizen. And a native born citizen isn't the same as a natural born citizen.

I refer you to the Supreme Court finding in the Minot v. Happersett (1875) where they stipulated the young woman was a natural born citizen because both of her parent were American citizens.

It takes two to make one.

If he is a natural born citizen, why has Sheriff Joe Arpaio's Cold Case Posse found his birth certificate and his registration papers as fakes?

yogi, the man is eligible for office and the courts have agreed. I'm sorry if you cannot accept it as being so.

So, where are you on admitting your two new falsehoods from earlier?

By: Captain Nemo on 7/26/12 at 3:48

I made a yogi.

By: yogiman on 7/26/12 at 3:51

Well Beernazi, even as an old man I can't wait until Nov 6. Either I, or you, will be proven to be a damn fool.Wanna make any bets?

By: Captain Nemo on 7/26/12 at 3:59

There no bet yogi, you are always the fool.

I'm afraid you don't see what's going on in this nation now. If you're a communist, I guess you do as you can be part of it. But if you aren't a communist, get ready for the shock.

I'll say one more time, why has Obama refused to prove his citizenship? Why has he refused to show his school papers?

Can you explain how a 45 year old man whom was hardly known was able to win the office of the White House as a "new comer"?

Can you explain why he refused to certify his eligibility and Congress didn't question him?

Can you explain why the Electoral College voted him in office without certifying his legal eligibility? Can you explain why the Senate approved his election also without assuring he was legally eligible?

Can you explain why Nancy Pelosi gave the Hawaiian Sec. Of State a different eligibility affidavit than the other 49 Secs. of State?

What nation was Obama thinking of when he mentioned he had only been in 57 and had another one or to to go? Just too tired to think? Wonder how many states are in Kenya.

2012 is going to be the most historical year in this nation from its beginning.

By: Captain Nemo on 7/26/12 at 4:14

yogi rerun post 2013.

By: bfra on 7/26/12 at 4:31

Blanket - Any comment you make to yogi, definitely goes in one ear & out the other, because there is nothing between. He has been shown evidence of being wrong on everything he ever posts, and too dumb to admit it.

By: yogiman on 7/26/12 at 4:41

You just might be an Obama faithful when it's okay:

1. To place his hands over his groin area for the playing of the National Anthem and Pledge of Allegiance

2. When he refused to wear a flag pin and did so only after a public outcry.

3. That he refused to disclose who donated his campaign money even though the other candidates did.

4. When his place of birth was called into question and he refused to produce a birth certificate.

5. When he secured his voting records in the Illinois and National Senates.

6. That he said he favors sex education in kindergarten including homosexual indoctrination.

7. He received endorsements from people like Louis Farrakhan, Moammar Gadafi and Hugo Chavez.

8. When Valerie Jarrett, an avowed socialist, was selected as Obama's senior White House adviser.

9. When he appointed Van Jones, an ex-con and avowed socialist as green energy czar.

10. when he started spending us into a debt so big that we could not pay off.

There's more. Wanna "hear" them?
