Up for Debate: Death of an American ambassador

Thursday, September 13, 2012 at 12:06am

What's your reaction to the violence in Benghazi, Libya, that left a U.S. ambassador dead along with members of his staff? If it's true the violence leading to the deaths was prompted in part by an American-made video that criticized the Prophet Muhammad should those who promoted the video be held responsible or reprimanded in some way?

Good morning, Captain and thanks for the input.

Gd, we seem to be on the same page on this one.

Ask01 seemed to lump all Muslims into one big heap...he paints with a broad brush....he is stereotyping a billion and half human beings. Ask01 and millions of other Americans are dehumanizing Muslims....worse yet, they are demonizing them.

Muslims are the new scapegoats for America's failures....and the failure of Theodor Herzl's experiment in social engineering: The Jewish State. This is not logical....this is hate responding to hate.

Ask01 seems to trivialize what Osama Bin Laden disclosed about his motives for attacking the US...and the part about the US-Israel "special relationship" being a primary motivator for Al Qaeda's actions was completely left out of Ask01's narrative.

We bankroll, arm, defend and apologize for a bellicose, nuclear-armed, scofflaw, Jewish theocracy in Palestine.....we are reaping what we have sown.....Holy Wars Suck.

The Muslims have two things to offer the USA: Their Islamic religion and their Sharia law.

By: yogiman on 9/13/12 at 7:14

It may not matter what "he" does, gdiafante, but it sure as hell matters what your favorite usurper in office does.

I presume you're using the 1st Amendment in our Constitution to make you comments (no matter how ignorant they are) but I shouldn't make any comments because you don't like them.

What section of the Constitution are you going by? Or haven't you ever read it?

By: bfra on 9/13/12 at 7:15

Raspy - I'll bet we can find a Dairy Dip or Dairy Queen or even the slum areas of Palm Beach, Fl., which you can't. But then you would have to have been there to find or see them, which obviously, you haven't. Don't forget the grey poupon for your hotdog, better take some with you as I don't imagine it is served at the Mission.

By: Loner on 9/13/12 at 7:15

Thanks, Rasp, I credit any intellectual prowess that I might exhibit to my daily ingestion of Grey Poupon....I can see that it has done wonders for you too...So, what bridge are you currently living under, my compatriot, I'll bring a brown-bagged-bottle of gin and we can exchange golf stories, as the motorized "productive class" roar overhead.....Kings of the Road we are.

Libya attack: Who's behind the inflammatory YouTube video?

By: yogiman on 9/13/12 at 7:20

Kosh III,

Obama should have made a condemning comment the minute he heard of the incident, not wait for hours for his teleprompter to get set up.

By: bfra on 9/13/12 at 7:20

Loner - Raspy's taste probably goes for Mad Dog wine!

By: Captain Nemo on 9/13/12 at 7:23

I have a theory as to what could have taking place. The video was produced by al-Qaeda and then shown to get the results that have taken place. Simply show the trailer and then step back and let the hot heads of both religions do the rest.

By: Captain Nemo on 9/13/12 at 7:26

Kosh we are doing the BenDover method and not reading any of yogi’s post.

By: yogiman on 9/13/12 at 7:27

No one else' post is any more ridiculous then yours or your fellow posters on this site. Quit pretending everything you post is a fact.

By: Loner on 9/13/12 at 7:36

Bfra, the Rasp expressed an interest in gin...he'll be hosting the under-bridge tet-a-tet, I'm trying to be cordial and thoughtful....Mad Dog has the Magen David label....that would be politically insensitive...perhaps provocative to bring MD on a first visit...maybe later.

Captain, your theory may have some credence...the producer claimed to be a Zionist Jew doing this for Israel's sake...the Israelis are strongly denying any role in this. I think that the producer may be an American born-again Christian who was trying to help the Jews... by expediting Armageddon.

By: yogiman on 9/13/12 at 7:38

You mentioned there are peaceful Muslims and war like Muslims. Correct me if I'm wrong but I've never read of two different thinking Muslims. Only the one where if you don't believe the faith of Islam, you deserve to die.

So how can a person be a true Muslim if they believe in peace even though you aren't a true Muslim?

By: BenDover on 9/13/12 at 7:41

I think Biden's speech at the DNC convention talking about how Obama round-house kicked Osama through a wall, ripped his head off and shat down his neck probably got a little more play in the Arab world than a stupid video by a preacher in Florida that no one has ever heard of.

By: Captain Nemo on 9/13/12 at 7:44

Loner the devil’s face would not be seen as red and forked tail. It would be more TV pleasant and offering cookies for the masses.

By: BenDover on 9/13/12 at 7:45

I'm not going to read through all of these but I really can't believe that you are blaming whoever did this stupid film gd.

By: Captain Nemo on 9/13/12 at 7:46

Hello Ben, did the stock market take a dive yesterday?

By: Captain Nemo on 9/13/12 at 7:48

If it was al-Qaeda would you blame it on them, Ben?

By: Loner on 9/13/12 at 7:49

I must share a recent success with this posting community....I posted a comment on Haaretz yesterday...it went through "moderation" and was posted as post #1...right now, the post has 50 thumbs up and zero thumbs down...and this is on an Israeli site.

Here is a link to the story headlined: Lowering tone with U.S., Netanyahu notes differences 'even with our closest allies'

Subject: Shaul Mofaz versus Bibi

By new_york_loner
13 Sep 2012

If I were an Israeli voter, I would listen to Mr. Mofaz....Israel tried the neocon hot-head approach with Bibi and the Likud....constant fear mongering has been the result....time for cooler heads to prevail....Bibi shot his mouth off on September 11th, sharply rebuking the US government on a day of national mourning...his foolish sloganeering was poorly timed and his schtick fell flat.....throw this lousy comedian out of office before he gets you all killed. (End Post.)

This is merely anecdotal evidence, of course, but Israeli public opinion may be about to swing hard left, judging from the thumbs up tally.

The Israelis are growing tired of the constant alarm bells sounded by the Likud Party and their leadership. Mofaz is the leader of the main opposition to Likud....you heard it here first.

By: Captain Nemo on 9/13/12 at 7:54

Why not Ben, it is perfect for someone wanting to inflame the zealous on both sides of the conflict.

By: Captain Nemo on 9/13/12 at 7:56

Well done Loner.

By: dargent7 on 9/13/12 at 7:57

Loner: Jews brought their own religion to America, in conflict with Christianity.
Muslims bring their own religion, too. In conflict with Christianity.
However, Islam, includes suicide bombings, honor killings, Shari'a Law, suppression, repression, and living off of welfare, Foodstamps, Tenn Care.
Jews didn't suck the blood out of America, trying to impose their religion, the Qu'uran on Americans, and calling all those who don't follow, "infidels".
Jews never had a murderous jihad. They don't burn the American flag.
They follow American customs. Call it rank 'n file, but they follow the rules.
Islam amd Muslims want to transform America into mirroring the Middle East, it's customs, like it was the year 11 A.D.
Jews, well, they just bought up the banks and Hollywood thru shear talent.
Not thru violent oppression that Islam tolerates.

Romney foreign policy attack was disgraceful

It's important to know the timeline of events.

Despite the fact that U.S. missions in Egypt and Libya came under attack after that embassy statement, with crowds besieging the Cairo embassy and the consulate in Benghazi in the late hours of September 11th, the campaign released a statement from Romney saying, "It's disgraceful that the Obama Administration's first response was not to condemn attacks on our diplomatic missions, but to sympathize with those who waged the attacks."

By: Blanketnazi2 on 9/13/12 at 8:01

This is not just politics as usual, but something far lower. By point of comparison, when Ronald Reagan was confronted with the downed-helicopter rescue mission ordered by President Jimmy Carter to save the American hostages in the U.S. Embassy in Iran, he did not see it as opportunity to score political points. Instead, Reagan said, "This is the time for us as a nation and a people to stand united." Likewise, George H.W. Bush, then also running for president, said "I unequivocally support the president of the United States -- no ifs, ands or buts -- and it certainly is not a time to try to go one-up politically. He made a difficult, courageous decision." (Hat-tip to The Atlantic for unearthing these statements.)

No wonder a wide array of Republican foreign policy experts rose to condemn Romney's comments, including the longtime speechwriter and senior aide to Sen. John McCain, Mark Salter, who wrote: "to condemn (Obama) for policies they claim helped precipitate the attacks is as tortured in its reasoning as it is unseemly in its timing."

By: Blanketnazi2 on 9/13/12 at 8:04

Many questions still remain. The online "film" that apparently provoked the attack seems thrown-together and badly over-dubbed to create maximum insult to Islam. It has been promoted by some of the most discredited conspiracy entrepreneurs on our side of the Atlantic, including the "Reverend" Terry Jones, who advocated Koran-burning in the past. The American principle of defending free speech cannot be allowed to be compromised by fanatics anywhere for any reason.

By: Loner on 9/13/12 at 8:04

Hello, Ben, my old misled friend....I did not hear or read about any Muslim riots associated with Biden's speech...can you source that?

I suppose that VP Dick Cheney would not have boasted about bagging Bin Laden, right? Cheney would have marched around with Bin Laden's head...crowing like a victorious savage.

Cheney & Bush never seriously tried to bag Bin Laden...they needed him as boogie man for the Defense, Israel & Energy lobbies...the folks who bankrolled their election campaigns. Bin Laden was vital to the Global War On Terror.

Nobody here is justifying the violence caused by the hate film or anything else...but jerks who instigate deadly riots should be held accountable for their actions.

Your boy, Willard, is going down over this, Ben, the dumb ass keeps digging the hole deeper....still defends the film's makers and promoters...but, like Nemo asked, what if the film's producer was an Al Qaeda agent? Would you and Romney still defend the film?

By: yogiman on 9/13/12 at 8:05

I can't remember the man's name, but the USA became closer friends" with the Jewish people after a Jew bailed the US out of bankruptcy and would not accept repayment. They honored him [in a way] by putting him on our dollar bill.

By: Captain Nemo on 9/13/12 at 8:08

Ben marches to a tone deft drummer. ;-)

By: Captain Nemo on 9/13/12 at 8:09

Spot on Blanket.

By: Loner on 9/13/12 at 8:11

Keep digging that hate hole, Darge. Now you are stereotyping millions of American Jews as part of your narrative. We are seriously starting to part company in our shared views. Let's keep it civil.

There is no doubt about it, the US-Israel "special relationship" is sucking this nation into eternal Holy War in the Middle East and across the Muslim world. Here's why:

By: dargent7 on 9/13/12 at 8:15

The Jewish Talmud is their Holy book. Read it if you care to.
The Qu'ran is from Mohammed decreed that if you don't read it, accept it, cherish it, lie supine to it, pray to it, we will kill you.
No fringe group, not the Hare Krishnas, Moonies, Scientologist, tolerated and purported violence and death to non- adherents.
It was "Go your own way".
Muslims can take their Q'uran, beliefs, philosophy and go to hell.
Or, set up shop in Dearborn, Mich.
Same thing.

By: budlight on 9/13/12 at 8:16

Obama sounded unemotional and quite bored when he read his prepared remarks. This should be one of those obama impersonates a preacher moments. He should be hopping mad at this mess. After all, they took the life of an American diplomat on American property - ie, the Embassy was invaded. How much more does Obama want us to take?

By: bfra on 9/13/12 at 8:21

It is easy to recognize the few repub dodo heads commenting here today. They can't even realize, they are backing a loser, with a capital L!

By: Blanketnazi2 on 9/13/12 at 8:21

Freedom of speech does not mean you go to an Islamic country and show a highly charged, offensive film then when you get a fiery response claim freedom of speech. Along with freedom of speech comes responsibility. How would you like it if a group came over here, showed an inflammatory speech of 9/11 then when they received the appropriate reaction, crawled back and yelled, "freedom of speech!"

By: Blanketnazi2 on 9/13/12 at 8:22

Did anyone else see the picture of Romney smirking after his statement? Obama and Clinton were solemn - Romney could only think of polical gain. Very shameful and not at all presidential.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 9/13/12 at 8:24

This is Romney's response to the death of a diplomat. Disgusting.

By: dargent7 on 9/13/12 at 8:24

Nazi2: Maybe.
But, how thin-skinned are these people, "of peace".
Jesus said, "Turn the other cheek".
" Foregive your brother 7x7" .
Romney and his ilk would say He meant just 49 times, then bomb the bastards.
These ass-holes set on fire Embassies and kill Ambassadors.
Like I said, 25 years ago it was a book, 5 years ago it was a South Park cartoon geared toward 10 year olds.
Now, it's a YouTube video.
What's next? Certainly something.
But, Bush I & II & Co. started the whole thing in 1991 with the 1st invasion of Iraq.
These people may be insane, but they're not stupid.
America will reap what it sows.

By: bfra on 9/13/12 at 8:25

Blanket - There is nothing about Romney & crew that isn't disgusting & reeks of cover up.

By: Captain Nemo on 9/13/12 at 8:25

The troll monkey crawls from under the bridge and moo’s her tiny mind lies. It expects the world to salivate at her craftiness of thoughtful knowledge and hate fill message.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 9/13/12 at 8:26

It's stupid to stoke the fire then scream innocence, especially in a country that is so not stable. They still don't have a solid government in place. How stupid can a person be?

By: Blanketnazi2 on 9/13/12 at 8:27

Remember that it wasn't that long ago that Gaddafi was taken out. The place is still chaos.

By: Captain Nemo on 9/13/12 at 8:27

The question now is will Romney rise or fall to public opinion.

By: dargent7 on 9/13/12 at 8:27

Excuse me, Nazi2...The American filmakers, whatever their personally held beliefs, didn't go to Yemen to film their movie.
It's freekin' on YouTube since June.
Even bin Laden had cable before the SEALs shot him during a'Seinfeld" re-run.

By: Captain Nemo on 9/13/12 at 8:29

Just look at the trolls and stupid abounds, Blanket.

By: yogiman on 9/13/12 at 8:32

Let's face it; we have one man running for that office as a Republican legally, and one running a a Democrat who isn't. It's going to be interesting how many decide to ignore the Constitution when they vote for Obama.

It's also going to be interesting if any of them think of Obama's statement if he isn't successful in his first term he would not serve a second term...:unless "you" fools re-elect me.

It's also interesting Obama insists on Romney showing his income tax forms of 11 years, but it's okay that he doesn't show anything. You know; his original birth certificate, his school papers, his Social Security Number, his registration number. You know, anything that might identify him as being ineligible for that office.

Was he an American student or a foreign student? How did he get in Pakistan when Pakistan would not accept Americans in their nation? What nation was he a citizen of? Could he have still been an Indonesian citizen?

By: Loner on 9/13/12 at 8:32

Islam and Christianity are both heretical offshoots of Judaism, practiced by gentiles.

Islam and Christianity were both spread at sword-point...Islam a little more so, perhaps....but Judaism is an exclusionary faith, they do not seek or want converts as it pollutes their gene pool...Jews think that they are a separate and distinct "People", not just Caucasians, and they do not want their ethnic purity to be tainted by gentile converts.

So, which ideology is on a higher moral plane....faiths that used conversion by force or an exclusionary, race-based faith?

IMO, all 3 Abrahamic faiths are more dangerous than they are useful for advancing our species to a higher level. Members of these faiths are now weaponized and seething with hate...theocracy is spreading like a cancer on democracies...welcome to the Great Theocratic Wars of the 20th & 2st Centuries.

By: bfra on 9/13/12 at 8:34

d7 - This film maker should be pulled from what ever rock he is under & held accountable for his actions. Do you think he would be in hiding, if he thought what he did was right?

By: Loner on 9/13/12 at 8:35

Great comments, Blanket.

By: dargent7 on 9/13/12 at 8:38

There's 4 countries currently in "chaos".
These people need to learn to govern themselves, without US military intervention.
We're 6,000 miles away for Christ's sake.
Let Russia do some heavy lifting.
How about Europe? France. Italy, Germany, Spain.
Asia? China and Japan. China has more money than God.
This, "The USA has to step in" is getting old. And killing us financially, morally.

By: dargent7 on 9/13/12 at 8:41

bfra: Just like the Wikileaks guy? All the shit's that's going on on the planet, it's well, planetary, for global consumption.
Nothing is, "just between you and me" anymore.
