Up for Debate: Does Romney sink or swim?

Friday, September 21, 2012 at 1:08am

After facing criticism over the "47 percent" remarks and facing trouble in latest polls, is Romney's campaign battered beyond repair just about six weeks out from the election? Can Romney make up ground in the debates? What must he do, reel in his comments and play it safe, or go on the offensive? Also, for fun, care to make final outcome predictions in vote percentage?

LOL, Slack.....the Chrysler Cordoba ....with Coreeenthian Layther upholstery..."Boss, dee plane! Dee plane!"....yes Romney is now on Fantasy Island.

I thought that Romney was channeling Fernando Lamas.

OMG, seriously, Nemo? How clueless can you get!

By: Captain Nemo on 9/21/12 at 7:39

Come to think about it Blanket, it was this last council race. Kenny Jakes I think it was in the At-Large race.

Wow. Just wow.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 9/21/12 at 7:48

There was a skit of Romney trying to eat at McDonald's with the "regular folks."

By: Loner on 9/21/12 at 7:48

That's good, Bfra...but no, I missed SNL.

I agree with Gov....Captain Nemo nailed it....Bravo!

By: yogiman on 9/21/12 at 7:52

dargent7,

You stated Romney isn't acting like a "qualified" President. What "qualifications" did Obama have when he ran in 2008?

Looking at Romney' success in business, compared to the fact Obama has never had a real paying job, who would you consider as your best president, the one that knows how to make money, or one who only knows how to spend it?

I think you misspelled "sense" when you commented; Ronmey is all dollars and cents".

Kosh III on 9/21/12 at 7:52
The 47% includes
Boeing which has paid NO income taxes since 2001.
Verizon, Wells Fargo, Pepco, GE and BofA have all had several years in which none were paid. Even while we were shoveling massive amounts of welfare at the banks and others.
-------
Romney can win if the Electoral College vote is a certain way regardless of the popular vote.
Or if Obama makes a major stumble.
Or if Romney does better in the debates.

If Romney wins, we can expect to accelerate towards the corporate fascism that has been creeping up on us for 30 years.

Again, Kosh how can you be against Bank of America when they granted loans to illegals and people who were not qualified to get loans for houses? Isn't that what you democrats wanted? More free stuff for the masses.

First year in office Obama failed to acknowledge national day of prayer. This year he acknowledged it. Hmmmm. Vote seeker move.

Question: How is cutting someone's hair the most horrible "hate" crime on the planet? The muslims kill their wives and children for any small reason and yet the Mennonites are committing a hate crime when they "shun" according to their religion and cut hair. Hate Crime? OMG. Stupid move, maybe. But Hate crime, NO WAY.

I'm so sick of the double standards in this country.

The Great Salt Lake,in Mormon Utah, is so salty, it's buoyancy physics so extreme, that a golden bathtub will float on its surface.....if there are no waves to swamp the thing....that's where Mitt does his boating.

Well budlight,

We only have 48 days left to see if Barry is allowed to re-usurp the office, or is required to prove his eligibility. Can't wait to see who the idiots are on this site.

By: Loner on 9/21/12 at 8:17

Thanks for the to the SNL skit, Cap'n....very funny....FOX makes a great target, from a comedic standpoint...when you go over the top, with the humor, there's still enough truth in the absurdity to make it amusing.

That moan is the raspy voice of a Grey Pouponist, Cap'n.

Rasp, like the Popcorn Lung guy, maybe you too could sue for damages sustained, as a result of ingesting a jar of Grey Poupon every day, for the past decade......Doctors call it:
"Pouponosis".....in France, they call it "Grey Poop Disease".

From the popcorn lung settlement story:

"Defense lawyers claimed Watson got sick from the chemicals used in his carpet-cleaning business, not his two bag-a-day habit." (End quote.)

Cleaning carpets for a living....addicted to Microwaved popcorn......suddenly a multi-millionaire.....what a country.

No doubt, this new tycoon will vote for the man who promises the butter (and salt), not the guns.

"The Good" CAPTAIN BRINGDOWN

Mittens has continually proved over and over again his unnerving disconnect with the average Joe Citizen, who works when he has a job, pays what taxes he is forced to (because he has little to no disposable income), sends his sons off to war (because college is too expensive), and is blessed with disappearing benefits that he has counted on his whole life. He's upside down in his mortgage, suffers diminishing health quality, has less than a thousand in his savings, is overcharged at the grocery, has a 3 year old car, and is bomb-lasted by negative commentary on Fox news and Talk Radio. And to top it all off, he is forced to chose between an arrogant wooden professional smiley-faced lying SOB Corporate Raider and a oft somewhat unjustly demonized incumbent that is not surprisingly unable to work with an obstructionist do-nothing congress admittedly dedicated to his defeat in the next election regardless of the effect on the populace. A populace suffering from the effects of an devastating almost depression caused by the very policies that Mr. Smiley Face business tycoon wishes to re-instate if he is elected.
You wanna vote for the Pinocchio Puppet (Mittens), have the hell at it, but you will be finding yourself more and more alone in your effort. President Obama's core of support is seemingly growing, though slowly, while Etch-a-sketch's support is abandoning him like rats from a sinking ship! The only hope he has left is if Obama shows up for the debates smoking a crack-pipe with a fat teeny-bopper attached face first to his crotch!

By: Loner on 9/21/12 at 8:43

More sore-loseritis, Ben Dover? The Fast & Furious "scandal" was a Tea Bagger tempest in a teapot.....a tragedy that the GOP tried to turn into a political victory for the right wing gun nuts.

Rep. Issa, former car-thief turned Republican politician, was on a witch-hunt to nail that uppity Eric Holder, the uppity president's appointee...bringing down Holder would bring down Obama...that was the shared fantasy.

By: Loner on 9/21/12 at 8:48

Captain Bringdown.....welcome to the board.

I agree with your comments.

As a friendly tip, hitting the "enter" key will give you a paragraph break (line feed).

By: Captain Nemo on 9/21/12 at 8:52

Hello Captain Bringdown.

By: gdiafante on 9/21/12 at 8:56

Luckily for Obama, Ben, Romney will end up galvanizing Obama supporters every time he opens that stupid mouth of his.

By: Loner on 9/21/12 at 8:58

A wooden puppet who lies....that's Mitt alright.

Pinocchio's nose is certainly elongating, Captain Bringdown.....and we know who pulls his strings.....Sheldon Adelson is one of the chief puppeteers pulling Pinocchio's strings. The Koch brothers are also in on the puppet show.....sorry, no free popcorn.

By: gdiafante on 9/21/12 at 9:05

I have to admit, and I think I've said this before, I actually thought seriously about voting for Mitt before the GOP primaries.

Since that point, though, it's become apparent that the guy is nuts, completely out of touch with the average American and, really, anyone who thinks that going back to supply-side policies is good needs to get their head examined.

He may be providing lip service in order to get elected and could be more moderate, like some of his past record would indicate, but can we take that chance?

Thanks, but no thanks.

By: Loner on 9/21/12 at 9:14

Right, Gd, Obama just needs to kick back and give Romney all the rope he needs to hang himself.

Sea-faring Analogy:

Captain Mitt is in the campaign wheelhouse, he has just "clipped" the rocks. Tim Pawlenty, his first mate, grabs a lifeboat and abandons ship...all this, just as the ship is coming in to port..

Scott Brown, in the crow's nest spies more trouble and orders full reverse, as he he too dons his life jacket.....at the same time, Darryl Issa, down in the engine room, reports that the "Fast & Furious" engine has quit and is leaking fuel....and sea water is coming in, near the bow. The skipper is in a dither.

This is the Costa Concordia all over again. Arrivederci Roma!

You guys keep right on stroking up that confirmation bias if you like... ignoring valid criticisms of Obama and screaming to high heavens about any minor misstep on the part of his opponent. In the real world Obama's Clinton bounce is gone now and Romney's numbers have recovered in kind.

What seems to me to be happening is that the voters are getting tired of being told what to think about Romney by the media WhiteHouse surrogates.

As many people who enjoy shots of Obama on Letterman wonder why the Campaigner in Chief dithering while Rome burns.

The only thing that's saved Obama so far is that he's rung up $6 trillion in debt for my grandchildren to pay back to mask the suffering based on his economic malfeasance.

I don't know which is worse, being bolstered by the debt or suffering through the malaise; but I'm pretty sure the narcissist in Obama will abandon such benevolence to the unwashed hordes when it no longer serves his political purpose.

In any case, it ain't over yet guys; but keep telling yourselves it is if you like.

By: BenDover on 9/21/12 at 9:21

I see Fauxcahontas got her @$$ handed to her by Sen. Brown last night too. It'll be nice to see Harry Reid hand over the gavel this year.

By: gdiafante on 9/21/12 at 9:22

Ben, did you not read my post of 6:01?

The election is far from over but Mittens keeps stepping in it. He can't keep doing that and remain competitive. If he loses the first debate and the numbers haven't improved from what they are now, it may be too much. He still has time to turn it around, but he has to help himself.

The problem he has is that people (even the GOP) just don't like the guy.

By: Loner on 9/21/12 at 9:23

I took some liberties with the original tune's lyrics...here we go:

Arrivederci Romney

Arriverderci, Romney.
Goodbye, goodbye to Romney.
Man of a million moon lit faces
Man of a million warm embraces
We found the one of all the faces
Far from homely.

Arriverderci, Romney
It's time for us to part
Save the wedding bells for my returning
Keep my lover's arms outstretched and yearning

Arriverderci, Romney.

By: Loner on 9/21/12 at 9:28

Ben, with all due respect, my friend, we are not "screaming to high heavens about any minor misstep" on the part of Obama's opponent.

We are appalled at the lack of presidential timber in your wooden candidate....Mitt's veneer may be polished American oak, but under that he's nutty pine.

By: gdiafante on 9/21/12 at 9:33

As many people who enjoy shots of Obama on Letterman wonder why the Campaigner in Chief dithering while Rome burns.

Well, Congress is about to adjourn, no? Or are you still under the assumption that the President can also pass legislation...Seems to me that Congress should take the majority of blame...here's what they've done:

[crickets]

Ok, here's the result of the above:

-debt talks collapsed pushing U.S. to lowered credit rating
-dispute over minor labor rules at FAA cost $300 million in revenue and furloughed 70K workers for a fortnight.
-thwarted jobs bill that would have added a million jobs
-did not adopt 5-year farm bill
-did not restructure PO
-did not pass any of the 12 annual spending bills to fund government instead using stopgap measures (kick the can)

This doesn't even mention failing to address entitlements, etc.

It appears that the 112th Congress may go down as the worst in history...and the 10% approval rating tells you all you need to know.

But yeah, let's blame one guy.

Get your head examined.

By: Loner on 9/21/12 at 9:34

All Mitt needs is a miracle. And miracles do happen in the Holy Land. Divine Intervention cannot be ruled out. Bibi is reportedly sacrificing a dove every day at the temple....he's praying for guidance and strength.....and a Miracle for Mitt.

By: BenDover on 9/21/12 at 9:42

Sorry gd... I didn't go back through all the posts. Even with my Yogi filter on there's not much here anymore but Romney bashing. And when I try to add anything to the conversation there seems to be this new pile-on tone that tries to take fragments to discredit the whole or shouts down anything I add so this site's pretty much lost now.

You have been one of the more reasonable of the contributors and it was worth it for a while to engage; but you also have been running with the pack lately so trying to figure out if there's anything of value in discourse on here now has been pretty much a waste of my time.

To answer your point though I think Malkin has hit the nail on the head with her 'SQUIRREL!!!" observation that the media gets hysterical about anything Mitt does that can possibly be blown out of proportion; while not even raising an eyebrow over things like Obama's foreign policy and the imploding Arab Spring or his unprecedented rate of mounting debt.

I did at one time very much enjoy the discourse on this site where we could jab back and forth and in the process actually consider each other's points; but as I said, I don't find it worth my time to try to dig any reason out of it any more.

By: Loner on 9/21/12 at 9:43

Obama dithers while Romney withers.... birthers blather in a rabid lather....it's election time in America!

By: Ummm... on 9/21/12 at 9:47

Per Little Bennie: "I did at one time very much enjoy the discourse on this site where we could jab back and forth and in the process actually consider each other's points; but as I said, I don't find it worth my time to try to dig any reason out of it any more."

Translation: The only people who find my comments "thoughtful and cogent" anymore are Yogi, budlight and parnell3rd- oh, and of course myself. So I don't want to play anymore.

By: Loner on 9/21/12 at 9:50

Ben is burned out....disgruntled....disappointed....dismayed....he leaves this once great forum with a heavy heart...he remembers the golden years here, as do I...and he remembers the purges under Clint Brewer....but now....the troll droppings and the piling-on of the lefties here are too much....no value added anymore...posting here is a waste of Ben's time and time is money, so he bids his farewell.

Hopefully, Ben will go off and smoke a jay.....and return at some time....until then, goodbye, my old friend.
