Up for Debate: Election questions unanswered

Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at 2:00am

Now, after all of the presidential debates are done, what questions remain for the candidates? Do you see either candidate riding any momentum out of the debates?

59 Million people tuned in GD... almost half as many people who voted in 2008

By: Blanketnazi2 on 10/24/12 at 7:45

More stupidity from the right.

By: gdiafante on 10/24/12 at 7:45

But here's what's going to happen...a very close election and the victor will say they have a mandate. I don't think that's possible anymore in this country. And I also think that no matter who wins, we all really lose so there shouldn't be any celebration.

I'll wait until we get a real leader in there.

By: bfra on 10/24/12 at 7:48

It is very obvious, Romney is taking orders from somebody. So just who is running for President using Romney as a shill?

By: gdiafante on 10/24/12 at 7:49

My statement still stands, Ben. It's about the bases.

By: Loner on 10/24/12 at 7:50

Ben, if the American Founders found their way to Heaven...and if they have any influence with the boss...the GOP will get burnt by the EC in 2012...it will be Divine retribution for the 2000 fiasco.

The Founders would probably change their minds, if they could have foreseen the all or none aspect of the EC vote...hey, they were only human...they screwed up....the EC system is now a huge vote suppressor in the solidly red & blue states - the majority of the union's states are not really in play and that is fundamentally undemocratic.....but the major parties, the donors and the media are very happy with the flawed system.

But, if the GOP got burned, like the Dems were in 2000, we might see reform...that's our only hope.

By: slacker on 10/24/12 at 7:51

lol loner. Rumor has it, that Orrin Hatch once made a constituent who failed to vote for him, look at a nude photo of Janet Reno.
The guy got the message.

By: gdiafante on 10/24/12 at 7:52

I wouldn't go there, Loner, but since you have, I doubt the Founders would recognize the country we've become, nor would they endorse it. In fact, they'd probably try to lead another revolution or quietly take the first plane out.

By: bfra on 10/24/12 at 7:53

gdiafante - IMO, you are so right on that.

By: Captain Nemo on 10/24/12 at 7:57

I know something much worse, slacker and that is to see a naked troll from Antioch.

By: bfra on 10/24/12 at 7:59

Wher is combover Trump's big news for the day?

By: Loner on 10/24/12 at 8:01

Yeah, Gd, I went there....and I agree, they would ask, "WTF?", or the 18th century equivalent.

Slack, nude photos of PM Golda Maier were used to torture Palestinian prisoners in Israel...some chose suicide. The US got the idea from our Israeli buddies.

Bfra, Romney takes his orders from Sheldon Adelson, the Casino tycoon and uber-Zionist....and Bibi Netanyahu also "advises" the Bishop.....John Bolton too... it's an open secret. President Romney will usher in Neocon II....the bloody Sequel.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 10/24/12 at 8:01

He is supposed to tweet it at noon. He needs a while to fix his hair first.

By: Captain Nemo on 10/24/12 at 8:03

The religion practiced in this country today, is so far from what was practiced in the 1st century, it would be consider a pagan religion.

Trump is allegedly going to release divorce papers from the Obama's from back in the day. Not sure what relevance that has...is it a secret that sometimes marriages go through rocky patches?

That'll certainly make the undecided choose...lol

By: Captain Nemo on 10/24/12 at 8:06

I am the second coming.

By: slacker on 10/24/12 at 8:06

If its the divorce papers thing, Trump is gonna embarrass himself & Romney.
That's as lame as the Bush DUI deal.

By: bfra on 10/24/12 at 8:07

Blanket - If he takes time to really fix his hair, the election will be over.

By: gdiafante on 10/24/12 at 8:08

I agree, slack. At the same time Gloria Allred is trying to unearth something on Romney...I guess when it's so close, the nuts are going hunting for any kind of advantage...

Sit back, have some popcorn, it's going to be an entertaining finish...

By: BenDover on 10/24/12 at 8:08

Barring something crazy happening, New Hampshire and Ohio are the only states really up for grabs anymore I think.

Of the toss up states Romney will carry Colorado, Iowa, Virginia, and Florida making his total elector count before NH and OH are decided 263

Obama will carry Nevada, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin in addition to his core states for a total of 253 electors.

New Hampshire will likely tend to Romney since undecideds usually break away from the incumbent but it's only 4 electors so that doesn't decide it.

That leaves Ohio's 18 electors to decide the works.

Obama's trying to run around shoring up votes in the other areas where he's losing ground and Romney's momentum will give him the luxury of focusing his efforts on Ohio for the win. Romney 285 Obama 253

Ohio breaking for Obama is Obama's best hope in a Romney 263 Obama 275 scenario but it is more likely that any unexpected swing will break toward Romney because the 'undecideds' typically are undecided because they don't like, or feel let down by, the incumbent.

By: gdiafante on 10/24/12 at 8:09

Newsflash: everyone has known for some time it would come down to Ohio, Ben.

By: bfra on 10/24/12 at 8:11

And Ben's prophecy stinks just as bad as his TARP, TARP, TARP!

By: Loner on 10/24/12 at 8:14

More Trump Trumpery?

Stay tuned for details.....high drama at high noon...I plan to be high at that time too....Trump just cannot get enough of self-inflicted agony, or so it appears...he is setting himself up for another @ss-whuppin'.....the guy probably pays this lady to teach himself discipline:

What will the masochistic Captain Comb-over reveal to the world?

By: BenDover on 10/24/12 at 8:15

Divorce papers? The Don's got nothing to stand on there. It would just shore up a sympathy surge for Obama.

I was hoping 'alien spawn' or something cool like that.

By: bfra on 10/24/12 at 8:17

LOL Loner

By: BenDover on 10/24/12 at 8:17

No... Florida and North Carolina and Virgina have all been up for grabs but now are firmly in Romney's court.

By: bfra on 10/24/12 at 8:18

Ben - False prophets have never been favored.

By: BenDover on 10/24/12 at 8:19

'masochistic Captain Comb-over' roflmao...

You should copy write that one my friend.

By: slacker on 10/24/12 at 8:21

If Trump announces he's gay, and he's coming out because Romney counseled him to fight for gay rights.. ''The Mitt'' wins.

By: Loner on 10/24/12 at 8:22

Thanks for breaking out the pencil and doing the math, Ben.

Ben deduced the following: "Ohio breaking for Obama is Obama's best hope in a Romney 263 Obama 275 scenario."

If, in that scenario, Romney was to win slightly more popular votes than Obama, the stage would be set for major gnashing of teeth on the starboard side of the ship-o-state.....from our lips, to God's ear....may the EC system bite the GOP on their fattened backsides....Lord, they got it coming.

By: slacker on 10/24/12 at 8:22

Vote Mitt.. he's gay at heart.

By: yogiman on 10/24/12 at 8:23

You can tell Mitt Romney to "go to hell" all you wish. That's why we have elections in this nation. Everyone who has become eligible to vote is entitled to their choice, that is, as long as the others are voting for the one you think is the "one for the job".

Your thoughts are readily accepted by those that believe and feel like you do, but I'm dead wrong because I believe anyone running for an office should be willing to prove they are legally eligible for that office. All of your arguments are proving your ignorance of the Constitution.

By: Loner on 10/24/12 at 8:31

Why...thank you, Benjamin Dover....I fancy myself an amateur wordsmith....this board is my focus group....you have a way with words too...we may not always agree, but we keep it civil and somewhat entertaining...don't we?

I thank our NCP host, for allowing us the latitude to dispense with the platitudes.

Trump is allegedly going to release divorce papers from the Obama's from back in the day. Not sure what relevance that has...is it a secret that sometimes marriages go through rocky patches?

That'll certainly make the undecided choose...lol

No, people do go through rocky patches. But then most of them are not running for president, presenting themselves as "lilly white" and pure of all kinds of sins and wrongdoings. So if the king and queen of TRANSPARENT told a lie about their just plain camelot marriage, then what else have they lied about? Well for starters, try obama's citizenship status.

The relevance is integrity, gdiafante. Something I don't expect you or some of your croonies to understand.

By the way, a former Miss Oklahoma was on the radio in Nashville telling about her life and that she was a product of a rape. She didn't get aborted; she was born. And she believes that she is a product of God. Go figure. Some people do believe that God has a hand in who gets born. I'm still trying to figure out why Obama's mother didn't believe in abortion. If she had believed the way he believed, then he'd be a "punishment" to her.

I personally think a woman should start her "control" of her body at the starting gate -- you know - before the race starts. Getting pregnant is not that complicated. Most people who scream for their abortions want the state to pay for it. They should be allowed to get what they want -- BUT PAY FOR IT THEMSELVES. Not use taxpayer dollars. And don't give me the Israel stuff . . . they can answer to God for themselves. We murder millions of unborn babies.

And if unborn babies are not really lives, then how is it that the guy ini CA who killed his wife and child serving time for both? Or this recent killing in TN of a pregnant woman saying they also killed her unborn child? Life is life -- at conception.

A woman carrying a baby is not carrying something that is part of HER body. Her body is the vehicle used to transport the child from conception through birth. The baby has it's own DNA, it's own individual set of fingerprints and it's own set of organs and body. It is unique and so the mother is not making a decision to kill a part of her body; she is deciding to kill a totally unique individual - the Baby.

By: BenDover on 10/24/12 at 8:46

What really gets me is that I can't see why Romney isn't doing so much better.

Obama has lost his sheen from the old Hope and Change days and has presided over one of the world economies our country has suffered adding $6Trillion to the national deficit in 4 short years.

Romney's far more appealing to the Republican base than McCain was. I don't know that Romney could get an endorsement form Colin Powell like Obama got in '08 but it's telling that Colin Powell is lying low this year after a little experience of Obama behind the wheel.

The crazies in the Democratic base have to be p*ssed off that Obama simply followed the Bush/Cheney war on terror road-map. The conservative base can rightly criticize where he's deviated with respect to killing rather than capturing and interrogating high level al Qaeda targets... thus drying up the intel. spring that much of our advancement has been dependent upon.

Then you've got the mess of encouraging take-overs by the Muslim crazies in Egypt and Libya on Obama's watch while he only offered late and tepid support of Arab Spring-like reforms against the Mullahs in Iran, where we need them most.

Overall Obama should be rated way down from what his high expectations were and Romney should be rated far higher than McCain even if you just use the polarizing choice of Sarah Palin as his running mate as the metric. So what gives?

How can such an abject failure of a man who used and additional $4+ Trillion of our grandchildren's future earnings to prop himself up; still have an even shot at winning this thing?

By: Loner on 10/24/12 at 8:47

Re: Budlight's 9:34........Finally, a right-winger comes out in favor of Rapist's Rights....Mourdock has a supporter in Nashville....it's a lonely number, but it's a start.

By: Loner on 10/24/12 at 8:51

The Gospel according Richard Mourdock:

And God so loved the rapist, that his only begotten son was the son of a rape victim

So it is written.

By: gdiafante on 10/24/12 at 8:58

Well that's pretty easy, Ben. Most of Romney's own party doesn't like him. I'd guess that 80% of people who vote this year will do so while holding their nose.

If people were really concerned about the future, they'd pay attention to the Congressional races. This country can't survive with weak leaders and an absentee Congress.

We're in a vacuum of leadership, across the board. That's usually what happens when a country is in decline.

By: Loner on 10/24/12 at 8:59

Ben sez: "The crazies in the Democratic base have to be p*ssed off that Obama simply followed the Bush/Cheney war on terror road-map."

Uh, since when are the peace-makers crazy, Ben.? Christ said that they were blessed.

Is your Jesus the weapons-toting, capital punishment advocate and Zionist Zealot? My Jesus is an un-armed pacifist, not a holy warrior...Mohammad, unlike my Jesus, was a holy warrior, maybe you should convert to Islam, Ben?

By: BenDover on 10/24/12 at 9:00

Oh... they like him better than McCain, gd.

By: gdiafante on 10/24/12 at 9:04

You're speaking in terms of the degree of likeability, Ben. Romney had to convince his own base during the debates. That's why the first debate is going to end up being why Romney wins, IMO.

By: Loner on 10/24/12 at 9:04

Hate to say it, but Citizens United has put the last nails in the coffin of our representative democracy....the corpse is starting to stink...the burial is forthcoming. Will we let democracy Rest In Peace, or will we take action? Forget the zombie crap, once it's dead, democracy does not spring back to life. We will have to start from scratch....the major parties, the donors and the media buggered the system beyond repair.

By: brrrrk on 10/24/12 at 9:04

And speaking of right wing knuckle dragging troglodytes....

Richard Mourdock On Abortion: Pregnancy From Rape Is 'Something God Intended'

By: Loner on 10/24/12 at 9:08

Mourdock is a crusader for Rapist's Rights, Brrrk...now call the Republican Party the party of Rights Reduction.....("Raspberry" at this point)

By: gdiafante on 10/24/12 at 9:08

Let's not pretend that this happened overnight. People seem to only have the ability to see the here and now, and think that things suddenly materialize out of nowhere. As with everything, it's a process.

By: BenDover on 10/24/12 at 9:09

Obama outspent McCain 4 to 1 in the last month of the 2008 election, Loner.
