What do you make of the list of local candidates that's shaping up?

Well, I say, if you're born and raised in Detroit, (and admit it), you can use the "N" word with immunity, impunity, or something like that.

I read it nemo. It's a really interesting thought but I would think the idea would have constitutional problems. It seems to be a pretty clear violation of equal protection under the 14th if someone's vote in another state can override how my electors are allocated. Also the intent of the Grand Compromise in Article 2 Section 1 would be certainly challenged such that I would think a Constitutional amendment would be necessary to change it not just a group of states getting together and deciding to thwart it through procedure.

How can Mulatto be considered to be racist when it's a simple word describing a person's heritage? If Mulatto is racist, why isn't Negro also racist? Then isn't Caucasian also racist?

By: Captain Nemo on 4/6/12 at 9:15

Ben, I wish that it had been posted earlier, so as to have gotten further feed back from others.

I think it has its merits in a nation wide election, but I agree it should not be able to have any bearing on locale elections.

When did it become part of the legislature's duty to pass job's bills?

yogi, first I want to make note that you have contributed not one, but TWO comments this morning that don't mention "you know what."

Secondly, you are correct in both of them.

It IS possible, however, for legislators to "make laws" that suggest to potential employers that the residents of Tennessee are stark-raving mad, and I do wish they would stop it. When an entire nation is reading that Tennessee is, by law, redefining science and history as "matters of opinion," A class for high schoolers in "Comparative Religions" would not offend me. That a science teacher should have to address ONE RELIGION'S challenges that science is a "progressive fraud," is another matter altogether.

People are entitled to their own opinions and their own beliefs. They are not entitled to their own "facts" and certainly not entitled to enforce them on all others. Our legislature has no business helping them with that. They are there to make and adjust laws that affect us all -- not just there to save souls. Nor are our public schools.

Because, my demented, diffused, little friend, "Mullato" is derived from the Latin for mule, which is a cross betrween a horse and a donkey.
It's disparaging at it's worst, and racist as it's center.
In the 3.5 years Obama's been president, NO ONE ever called him a "mullato". Are you just that incisive in your intellect and abvove the fray?
But, knowing you, you wouldn't know the difference.
Live with your ignorance.

In Europe, with its ample reservoir of white labourers — in contrast to colonies dependent on enforced labour of imported workers or ‘natives’ — not only the ruling class but also the entire society tried to remain unsullied by ‘black blood’. By the end of the nineteenth century, the constant threat of mass unemployment served as the background for the campaign against admitting members of ‘alien races’ as a ‘ruinous contamination of the white race’, and the number of mulattos was considered a measure of physical and psychological decay. Predicting the fall of Western civilization, right-wing ideologies in all parts of Europe proclaimed that the several hundred ‘half-breeds’ born of ‘coloured’ French auxiliary forces during the occupation of the Rhineland (1919-29) were the catastrophic result of a ‘blood warfare’ analogous to a ‘gas warfare’ and directed not only against Germany, but against the whole of the white race. Hitler, too, constantly referred to the ostensibly imminent ‘peril’ of a ‘mulattoization’ of Europe; after 1933, his party saw to it that corrective measures were taken: the ‘Rhineland bastards’ were forced to be sterilized.

As I have said before, yogi’s hate of Obama is because his white mother married a black man.

Well, Yogi just may have a problem with BO's undying devotion to truthfulness. There is no clearer example of this than in this 18 second CNN News clip:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fv4jnlkxOaw

Amazing that BO Sr, being born in Kenya in 1936, was able to serve in the US military during WW II and, upon returning home, received the (veteran's) services he needed. I didn't realize that the US military recruited 5 year old kids from Kenya to serve in WW II. But our current President says it's so.

And his father didn't even come to the US until 1959 at the age of 23.

I guess Jr just forgot to tell us that part. Not exactly a patron saint for truthfulness.
Me thinks, Yogi is correct to wonder how many other untruths are out there waiting to be uncovered, but no, not by the media.

slacker,

I hope you won't be too disappointed when the movie you mentioned at 9:48 comes to it's end and I'm shown as the star in it.

You know, one of those "just watch it, you're gonna be fooled at the end".

By: yogiman on 4/6/12 at 1:30

dargent7,

Does the point, or fact, that no one has called Obama a mulatto in 3 1/2 years mean he isn't one? Does that mean, then, because he has been called president those 2 1/2 years mean he is one... legally? Don't you know what a mulatto is?

By: dargent7 on 4/6/12 at 1:33

Puddy: Barry Sorento, aka, Barack Obama, attended Punahou H.S. on O'ahu, Honolululu, Hawaii. He then went on to Columbia University. Then onto Harvard University.
I don't know where you're from, but for myself, I've had to produce a photo ID, and Birth Cert. every time I applied and was gained entrance into college. Michigan State and U-Michigan, You just cannot, "show up".
There's a paper trail called, "transcripts" that every college wants.
You nuttz out there think Obama just walked his way onto the campus. Give the man credit where it is due. "yogi" asks, "Who is this man"? What a psychotic question.
You get photo ID's, other campus ID's, and your entire transcript report is in the Office of Admissions.
You nutz think he "bought his way" into Harvard? No, that would be GW Bush who's dumber than a box of rocks.
Obama had NO ties to a legacy of any kind. He's self made. I guess that scares you, people. The truth.

By: Ask01 on 4/6/12 at 2:00

Yogi asked when the responsibility fell to the legislature to pass jobs bills.

A fair question.

The answer would have to be when politicians began getting in bed with corporate America and business interests, granting tax breaks and other subsidies, and justifying their actions as needed to stimulate job creation.

Beyond that, with the economy in shambles, the party in power needs to show they are taking positive, aggressive steps to improve the situation for citizens.

Note to our esteemed, (or is that steamed?) legislators, the nonsense bills distracting you of late are not helping. The people of the middle class are becoming angrier.

Asko1,

In fairness, they still aren't creating jobs per se. They are due credit in trying to get companies to bring jobs in to their home states and districts, but it ain't their money they're using in their attempts, it's ours.

By: yogiman on 4/6/12 at 3:20

dargent7,

Wake up, young man. You're making claims in Obama's favor when you don't know what you're talking about. You can't, in fact, call them facts. Why? Simply because you don't know their correct answers. Why? Because Barack Obama is keeping them under lock and key and spending a fortune to keep them there. How do you know he went to the schools he claims to have attended?

You say he's a self-made man because he has no ties to a legacy of any kind.

Tell me, how did he become a man with such wealth at his age in the simple line of work he did in working for the government?

And by the way, his name is Barry Soetoro, not Sorento and one last point. You had to present a birth certificate to go to school, but did foreign students also have to present them?

By: Captain Nemo on 4/6/12 at 3:47

They’re coming to take you away, yogi they’re coming to take you away. Ha, Ha!

By: Ask01 on 4/6/12 at 5:21

My point exactly, yogi.

Our elected employees (they do work for us, even though they have forgotten) assumed the task of crafting job creating legislation, spending our money, and have, in my opinion anyway, failed miserably.

Publicly, the rhetoric provides excellent press, but in session, the topics addressed fall far short of the target.

By: yogiman on 4/7/12 at 10:26

puddycat,

Re your 12:20 post: Its pretty obvious Barry Soetoro (going by the name Barack Obama) doesn't know what truth is. I'll bet it isn't even in his dictionary.

By: puddycat on 4/7/12 at 12:21

dargent-

"Obama had NO ties to a legacy of any kind. He's self made. I guess that scares you, people. The truth."

Do what ??

He certainly has ties to the legacy of his natural father who lied about himself for years. Perhaps Jr was referring to Lolo, his stepfather, as having served in WW II. After all, Lolo was age 6 at the start of the war.

Perhaps Jr just outright lied. Or perhaps he said all of that without realizing what he had said. That would explain the dependency on the teleprompter. It has to be one or the other and that's what scares me - not the truth but the lack of the truth. And that has to raise questions about anything he says. And, he's self made.

By: yogiman on 4/8/12 at 6:37

Its pretty obvious Barry Soetoro (a.k.a. Barack Obama) doesn't know what truth is. We better hope Congress isn't just waiting, hoping he will get beat in November. and quietly relieved from the Office.

If that happens, all the bills passed under him will remain intact for the harm of the nation and it will cost an arm and leg in the future..
