Is the case of former ricin suspect Paul Kevin Curtis an example of a failed justice system or an excusable act for law enforcement under the circumstances?

Too bad they didn't use 'To the Usurper in Chief' in the letters.

Good morning, Nashville.

I agree, Ben, we would be short one troll here, if that were the address line....our resident knucklehead would have put Minute-Rice in the envelope.

As for the question: Is the case of former ricin suspect Paul Kevin Curtis an example of a failed justice system or an excusable act for law enforcement under the circumstances? I do not know enough detail about the case to say if this was government over-reach or not....it looks like the suspect may have been framed by a long-time personal enemy.

The Boston bombings dominated the news....this ricin deal was moved to the back burner, as was everything else....car bombs in Iraq killed scores during the same time period that the US media was transfixed on the Boston bombings...nobody .here seemed to notice the carnage in Iraq and elsewhere.

From the NY Times:
"Lawyers for Mr. Curtis, 45, a celebrity impersonator, said he had been framed by a longtime personal enemy, J. Everett Dutschke, a martial arts instructor from Tupelo, Miss. F.B.I. agents raided Mr. Dutschke’s house but did not immediately bring charges against him. Mr. Dutschke, reached by phone, denied involvement but did not elaborate."

This Dutschke fellow is awaiting trial on child molestation charges....the allegation that Dutschke framed Curtis has some credibility...one of the targets of the poisoned letters was the mother of a man that Dutschke ran against in a political race....Dutschke lost that race...this may have been revenge.

Just another of the FBI's and Attorney General Holders big goof ups. That
number is rising monthly. Whether incompetence or forced political
correctness the FBI has faltered badly in the handling or not handling
the information they had on the one suspect in the Boston Bombing. Expect
many excuses and PR reasons for how that and this ricin case has been handled.

False witness through deception. I don't think God will split hairs on this one.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 4/24/13 at 7:28

Good morning, folks.

By: Loner on 4/24/13 at 7:31

Ben, please elaborate...your 7:58 is unclear.

Good morning, Bn....where have you been?

By: BenDover on 4/24/13 at 7:49

Bearing false witness directly would be testifying against someone. This was indirect because it was a ruse to trick the police into believing another person had perpetrated the harm. Same thing in the end, I guess.

Hi Blanket.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 4/24/13 at 8:07

Hey, guys. I've been traveling some for work so I've been out of the loop. Have I missed anything exciting?

By: Blanketnazi2 on 4/24/13 at 8:08

It looks like Jughead's comments were deleted in another thread.

By: BigPapa on 4/24/13 at 8:08

I hope the Cohen Bros. make a movie about this. It'd be awesome.

By: BenDover on 4/24/13 at 8:16

Nah... about the same around here blanket except without the glow of a beautiful young left-leaning accountant and her pocket-protector chiming in.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 4/24/13 at 8:17

Aw, Ben....you're making me blush! Have you been to the Hermitage Diner lately?

By: Blanketnazi2 on 4/24/13 at 8:17

btw, I tried the Southern. A bit pricey but the food was great!

By: BenDover on 4/24/13 at 8:21

It's been a while. The Country Music Hall of fame brunch is very good... and Pucket's is usually great when we have guests. I've been traveling to GA most every weekend for the last 12 months though looking after mom and dad so not much opportunity to enjoy the Condo.

By: BenDover on 4/24/13 at 8:22

We did get down for Elton John though and it was great.

By: BenDover on 4/24/13 at 8:23

Been meaning to try the Southern but have not got over there. Also want to try Etch but it's a bit too fancy for my wife's tastes.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 4/24/13 at 8:25

Etch is really good, but then I was always a fan of Zola. I haven't been to Pucket's yet but I've heard good things.

I heard Elton John was fantastic! The real queen of England - lol!

By: Captain Nemo on 4/24/13 at 8:32

I don't think it was a failure of the justice system. Curtis was released and the focus is now on who set him up.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 4/24/13 at 8:35

I agree. Also, the FBI did what they could. You can't arrest someone because you *think* they may do something. No laws will completely erradicate violence and you can't incarcerate someone over suspicions.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 4/24/13 at 8:35

Mornin', Nemo. Are you excited about the new Star Trek movie coming out? :)

By: Captain Nemo on 4/24/13 at 8:38

LOL Ben to your 5:13 post.

gov ?

Good morning Blanket

LOL BigPapa to your 9: 08 post.

By: Captain Nemo on 4/24/13 at 8:40

Yes I am Blanket, with mixed emotions about it. I still not sure if I like this new timeline it has taken.

By: Captain Nemo on 4/24/13 at 8:46

I'm going back to Gordonsville again today. My lunch offer to yogi still there.

By: Loner on 4/24/13 at 8:52

This ricin-letter case is bizarre...a martial arts instructor and a celebrity impersonator become mortal enemies....both have mental health "issues"...who would have written a scenario like that? Publishers probably would have rejected a novel with a scenario like that...too goofy....but, there it is.

No mention of the postal workers who handled the poisoned mail....that's normal...no respect...nobody interviewed the folks that handled those toxic missives, to my knowledge.

By: Loner on 4/24/13 at 8:55

Bn...you say the pulled out the rug from under the Jug? What happened?

By: Loner on 4/24/13 at 9:07

Politicians employ staff who open their mail....a ricin-letter mailed to any federal-level politician is not apt to contact its target....so, we can conclude that the malicious mailer was both an Idiot and an A-hole....any "amens" on that?

By: pswindle on 4/24/13 at 9:10

This guy was framed, and the FBI had to check it out, and now they are going after the framer. Lets talk about false reports and lying, Remember the Iraq War. The FBI had to check out Curtis.

By: dargent7 on 4/24/13 at 9:18

Don't know of this case. There was a "mear" campaign about another guy 10 years ago, re:racin. Wasn't he a PhD. or high level somebody?
re: New Star Trek movie? Half the original ensembal is dead.
Like the new Star Wars movie w/ original cast members...are they kidding?
Mark Hamil and Carrie Fisher have done more drugs than Keith Richards.

By: dargent7 on 4/24/13 at 9:33

News of the weird: A local muscian told me yesterday that Richie Havens died at 72..."Did I know who he was..."?
I told him I remember Woodstock and Haven's opened it up w/ "Freedom"...shitty song, IMO.
All the on-line papers don't even list him as having died.
Same will happen to me when I expire. Nothing.

By: dargent7 on 4/24/13 at 9:34

s/h/b Steven J. Hatfill...a scientist accused of anthrax mail.

By: BenDover on 4/24/13 at 9:36

Mark Hamil is a fantastic actor. That Corvette Summer is a classic that always brings a tear to my eyes.

By: Loner on 4/24/13 at 9:46

I never liked that Richie Havens tune either....I think that it had a single lyric; "FREEDOM!!" Repeated ad nauseam.

There was a bit more to it...here it is:

Rest in Peace, Richie Havens.

By: dargent7 on 4/24/13 at 9:59

Corvette Summer? Along the lines of "Fast Times at Ridgemont High", but worse. Sean Penn is still box office material.
"American Graffitti" w/ Harrison Ford was 10x better.
At least Harrison looks like he's still alive.
Hamil looks emballmed.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 4/24/13 at 10:11

Loner, they removed Jughead's comments from yesterday under the Jesse Jackson at TSU thread.

Breaking News: Five gunned down in cold blood blood in Illinois....suspect nabbed.

By: Loner on 4/24/13 at 10:15

Thanks, Bn....the guy never has anything of value to add to any discussion....just name-calling and crude commentary....he's an empty jug...cracked pottery....missing a few shards.

By: Loner on 4/24/13 at 10:20

Maybe, the Jug has been thrown out?

He constantly violated the Terms Of Service...if the webmaster threw the crackpot out, so be it.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 4/24/13 at 10:20

He's not the brighted jug in the shed.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 4/24/13 at 10:21

oops, meant to say brightest jug in the shed.

By: BenDover on 4/24/13 at 10:22

No D'arge... Mark Hamil's acting in Corvette Summer is 2nd only to this scene from Star Wars that the Academy somehow overlooked ... pure genius.

By: Loner on 4/24/13 at 10:25

Jughead was obsessed with, "balls"....hated "libtard pukes"....he was a birther....I say, good riddance.

By: BenDover on 4/24/13 at 10:30

I've been called a tea-bagger and a libtard.

All stand in awe of my fantastic versatility.

By: BenDover on 4/24/13 at 10:36

I've seen balls... and I've seen bane...
I've seen occupy libtards who I though would never bend...
I've seen tea-bagging birthers who were yogi's best friends...
But I always though I'd see Jughead again.

By: BenDover on 4/24/13 at 10:38

An unusual scarcity of yogisms today too...

If I'm next, friends; it's been real... and it's been fun...

By: Blanketnazi2 on 4/24/13 at 10:48

OMG, Ben. That was stellar. LOL!

By: Loner on 4/24/13 at 11:04

Ben...your Ode to Jughead @ 11:36 got a standing "O" here.

By: Captain Nemo on 4/24/13 at 11:34

Now why is everyone bring up the garbage? It has been a nice day so far.

I was taken back by him calling Ben a libtart.

By: Captain Nemo on 4/24/13 at 11:35

Ben I for one will make a stand for your return if you should disappear.

By: Loner on 4/24/13 at 11:41

May I add:

Won't you look down upon us, Webmaster.
You've got to help us make a stand.
You've just got to see us through another day.
Our belly's are aching, is our time at hand?
We won't make it any other way.

Some of us remember The Great NCP Purge....the Scourge of the Bow-Tied One.

By: budlight on 4/24/13 at 11:47

It is my understanding they found no evidence of the white powder to tie him to the letters. makes sense to me to release him if they found no evidence.

The one left over bomber is being held because they found evidence. And I hope he gets charged with vehicular homocide for running over his big brother. He probably wanted to shut him up so he could tell the story "his" way. If he gets set free, we all need to move out of the country.

Obama will probably testify as a character witness for the left over bomber. Or maybe the Saudi Prime Minister will come over to testify for him. His father should not be let in the country because of his statement "if they kill my son, all hell will break loose". Well his 2 sons surely did unleash hell on boston, didn't they? But they didn't get to win cause God and Bostonians and visitors stepped in and did some miracles.
