Up for Debate: Hasselbeck's time is up

Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at 12:55am

What do you think about the Titans' decision to part with Matt Hasselbeck? Good decision or bad? Who would you like to see them get instead? Do you think Buffalo's Ryan Fitzpatrick is the right replacement?

Yawn....

What is the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow?

By: govskeptic on 3/19/13 at 7:53

We don't know how much the Titan's offered to keep Matt,, but they certainly didn't
want to come up with the 7.5 million the last year of this contract called for. He
did state he wanted to stay and finally reached a minimum that was acceptable to
stay. Who and at what cost as the back up is still unanswered.

Certainly this and other contracts that sound so large originally can and do wind up being much less in most cases. The virtual total absences of a voice from the
ownership of our team leaves all of us unknowing of anything about the direction
or commitments to the Titans.

By: gdiafante on 3/19/13 at 7:54

African or European?

By: Kosh III on 3/19/13 at 7:57

European of course. The African would have to carry a birth certificate.

By: bfra on 3/19/13 at 8:21

Kosh III - Not here in the US, it could even get a fake ID.

By: Kosh III on 3/19/13 at 8:22

And vote!

By: bfra on 3/19/13 at 8:27

Yep! And get all the FREE social services needed for the good life.

By: bfra on 3/19/13 at 8:29

Kosh III - I would rather see a little swallow with all of that as an illegal.

By: bfra on 3/19/13 at 8:31

As to the Titan question = Until they show some, at least, promise, I have kinda set them aside.

By: yogiman on 3/19/13 at 8:43

They could find out from Barry where he got his fake ID... even a fake birth certificate and it wouldn't matter if they were born in Kenya or Indonesia.

By: gdiafante on 3/19/13 at 8:45

Conspiracy theory #1: The Titans are being setup to fail in order to make it easier to relocate to LA.

Conspiracy theory #2: 'Unladen Swallow' is the title of a 1986 adult film set in Gordonsville Tn during the 1950's and chronicles a lonely, ex-Navy weather man wannabe who falls in lust with an African swallow.

By: yogiman on 3/19/13 at 8:45

Not all teams are winners, bfra. And if you don't stand by a team when they are losers, they will never become winners.

By: yogiman on 3/19/13 at 8:54

Well, gdiafante, I wasn't a ex-Navy weather man in the 50s. I was still a Navy weather man until December 1955.

And we don't have African swallows in Gordonsville TN, we only have American swallows. We've never allowed African swallows to move in as fakes saying they were Americans even though they could lie and fly like an American swallow.

Fitzpatrick is a Harvard man. Rumor has it.. his agent negotiated a contract, that allows him to have elbow patches on his jersey, and puff on his pipe during timeouts.

By: gdiafante on 3/19/13 at 9:16

Don't get so defensive, yogi, it's just a conspiracy theory...LOL

By: yogiman on 3/19/13 at 9:19

Does it really take an education from Harvard to make a quarterback intelligent enough to throw a foot ball? Could that be because of the shape of the ball you have to be intelligent to throw it?

A quarterback is no better than the receivers. But if they don't catch it, he doesn't look good.

By: gdiafante on 3/19/13 at 9:23

Yogi's obviously never heard of Vince Young.

Conspiracy theory #4: VY scored better on the Wonderlic than Yogi.

By: yogiman on 3/19/13 at 9:24

I gotta defend myself against people so willing to accept a fake in our Oval Office, gdiafante. Defense is not offense, it's just defending yourself and others in your "family".

By: slacker on 3/19/13 at 9:26

yogi, please go feed your Ewe.

By: yogiman on 3/19/13 at 9:27

I've heard of Vince Young, gdiafante, and yeah, he was a good quarterback; because his team had good receivers.

By: gdiafante on 3/19/13 at 9:28

Conspiracy theory #5: Yogi is in Manson's family and the Beatles song "Mean Mr. Mustard" is about him.

By: gdiafante on 3/19/13 at 9:28

I've heard of Vince Young, gdiafante, and yeah, he was a good quarterback; because his team had good receivers.

Bwahahahaha!

By: yogiman on 3/19/13 at 9:30

Okay, slacker, you can have it now. I've got to get something done today since it's going to be nice outside.

If you come by, you'll find the ewe for you in the lower bottom.

By: yogiman on 3/19/13 at 9:38

OK, I'll admit, gdiafante, I'm not a big pro-football fan like you. Who in the hell was Vince Young?

By: bfra on 3/19/13 at 9:39

====================================================
gdiafante - Took me awhile to read your 9:28 comment. I had to get the tears out of my eyes from laughing so hard and the idiot's comment.

By: gdiafante on 3/19/13 at 9:44

So yogi admits he's a liar. Color me shocked.

By: bfra on 3/19/13 at 9:48

Like all the sane people that comment on this board didn't know that from day 1. yogi has never posted a documented truth on this board.

By: brrrrk on 3/19/13 at 9:49

Frankly, I don't get the logic behind dumping Hasselbeck. Maybe the powers that be think that getting rid of Hasselbeck will put Locker in a "sink or swim" mindset, thereby forcing him to deal with being "the" QB? On the other hand, they may just have shot themselves in the foot once more. Either way, really don't care......

Well, bfra. how much more proof do you want besides Barack Obama's autobiography? Damn, was it a complete lie? But then, listening to him I can easily believe it to be a lie.

Gotta go. Have fun, kids.

By: gdiafante on 3/19/13 at 10:19

Conspiracy theory #6: Yogi is taking a college coarse on how to milk a Ewe using only his feet.

By: dargent7 on 3/19/13 at 10:23

Bud Adams is a cheapskate and an idiot.
At, 89, sell the team already, marry a 29 year old, and go on Carribean cruises.
Hasselbeck played what, 2 seasons?
Here, in San Francisco Bay, the 49ers traded Alex Smith since he had a concussion and Cupernick was oustanding in his 3rd start.
The NFL is like Corporate America. If you're hired as a CEO to turn around a Co., you'd better in 2 years or your fired.

By: bfra on 3/19/13 at 10:33

d7 - Bud probably uses the Titans as a tax write-off. They need a NEW coach!

Bud isn't going to sell, why would he? He built the team from the ground up. It's going to stay in his family. That being said, a good business person would always keep their options open and do what's best for the franchise.

Now, L.A. versus Nashville...is it really a tough choice? Bud already dumped Houston for a better deal, there's nothing to think that either he or his son wouldn't do the same for L.A.

True enough. Nashvillians may find out that the loyalty they lavish upon this franchise is reciprocated only as long as it's in the best interest of Bud Adams. Anyone who believes otherwise is a fool. And then what? We're stuck paying the bill......

Top 10 to make Titans winners

10- Find a better name…The Titans were defeated by the Goods

9- Get a sharper more exciting team uniform…something with rhinestones

8- Dump the old mascot for a sexy possum

7- Make sure the player stay for all four quarters.

6- Make sure the players know what city and the right date they are playing.

5- Place a bounty on opposing teams fan base.

4- Have team cheerleaders at the goal, so team has something to go to.

3- Sprinkle sneezing power on ball when opposing has it.

2- Have magnets in football and receivers gloves

1- GET A NEW OWNER!!!

By: Captain Nemo on 3/19/13 at 12:06

Just heard that Hasslebeck stays as back-up.

By: eamus-catuli on 3/19/13 at 12:19

Either the Titans are freeing up cap space in order to go after someone like Dumerville or Bud Adams is making room for yet another run at Peyton Manning!

"Make something idiot-proof and the world will build a better idiot"

By: dargent7 on 3/19/13 at 12:21

Here in San Jose they're building a new $1.5 billion stadium. It's a trip because it's in Santa Clara County...NOT San Franciso. So, some want a name change.
That's what stadiums cost these days and Adams isn't rich enough.
The reason he should sell is all the asinine decisions he makes/ forces on his coaches.
He got rid of all the talent 3-4 years ago. And kept CJ who's about a D-.
Like Young was.

By: gdiafante on 3/19/13 at 1:28

When the time comes, the Titans will want a better stadium too. They can upgrade the boards, maybe put in a few flat panels above the pissers, but the stadium is still small and, in many aspects, aging.

By: bfra on 3/19/13 at 1:35

The stadium was too small when it was built! So is just about everything else Nashville does.

By: TITAN1 on 3/19/13 at 2:00

gd, Mr Adams isn't moving the team anywhere. Every game is a sellout and the stadium is very nice. But, why do you care? You no longer live here. You were just passing through, remember?

By: Captain Nemo on 3/19/13 at 2:02

It was built on the cheap side to get it passed council.. 5yrs after it was completed it was in need of repair.

By: bfra on 3/19/13 at 2:09

Like Titan1 knows Bud's plans! HA

By: gdiafante on 3/19/13 at 2:13

Yeah, they didn't really know if it would take off. One can wonder if they didn't have that Super Bowl year if it would have...three seasons of 8-8, games at Vandy.

Tits, those sell outs are on paper only and because of scalpers. That stadium is never at capacity. I was at a game a few years back, last game of the season, win and they're in...against the Pats...but it was raining, the place was empty. 'Fair-weather fans' doesn't even begin to describe the fanbase here.

And let's not even start with the gameday "experience", which consists of illiterate rednecks getting drunk, yelling curse words and making an ass out of themselves. I even remember good old tits bragging about how he made the gesture of wiping his ass with the 'terrible towels' after a victory. Class act...

There's a reason I would NEVER take my kids to a Titans game.
