In other news last week, HSBC said it would pay a record $1.9 billion settlement as the U.S. Department of Justice decided not to indict the London-based company on allegations that it laundered billions of dollars in international drug cartel money. Are worries that prosecuting such a large company might destabilize the world economy enough to not hold its executives responsible for any possible criminal actions, particularly when untold numbers of individuals are prosecuted for the same crimes?
gdiafante - No matter how tough the requirements, IMO, no one but police or military should have access to assault weapons.
I agree, bfra. But even if every assault weapon were banned, what about those already in circulation?
Times and people have changed. Before I retired I used I-40 and many nights when I was on my way home and saw a car broke down, I always stopped to see if I could help.
Quite a few couldn't get back on the road that night and I took them home with me. I have a camper and put them up for the night. Invite them in my house for breakfast then take them back to their car to get them back on the road.
That was then. Today I don't slow down if I see a breakdown.
The entertainment media is probably a catalyst for the nutters. I like watching the Quentin Tarantino type movies, but they may be a full moon for unstable people.
Are the people that are rushing out to buy assault weapon, just your everyday average citizen or they KKK are or they Survivalist? The rush to buy weapons could be a prelude to another civil war. Just asking for any ideas.
Question number 1 on valid psychological test:
Did you ever spend the night in yogi's camper?
slacker, some decent mental healthcare would help with that.
g - That would be a rough process, over a long period of time. Most "should" be registered but that gets into your backdoor sales by unethical dealers. If there is a ban put on them, I will turn in anyone, that I know has one,
Maybe they are going after HSBC. Now that would be funny.
Nemo, I had some money with HSBC and I moved it. They're a pain to deal with anyway.
bfra.. you turning snitch?
Nemo, I'm sure the treasonous birthers have their stockpiles.
Nemo - The guy I talked to is an executive in a lg. corporation, has 2 grown children & up until yesterday, wouldn't expect him to even want something like that.
slacker - On that subject - Yes.
bfra, I was just kidding about having a Sherman Tank buried in my backyard.
also the Flamethrower.. and 50 cal. Browning.
and grenades..

Are you seriously equating what happened in Newtown to an automobile accident? Does your stupidity have no bounds?
G, a man in China killed kindergarten children with a knife. Does your stupidity have no bounds. If people want to kill and there are no guns available, they will come up with another way to do it.
Our society is sick. On youtube there is a video showing how to "knock out your kids" with a cloth over their face and a chemical. Sick. It is called naptime and it is sick. A teacher at a local school told her 11 year olds to watch it cause it's funny. It is not funny. It is sick, sick, sick.

What's wrong with re-instituting the assault weapon ban that was in effect until 2004 and require tougher requirements to own a firearm, specifically a longer waiting period, tougher background check and a current and valid psychological exam?
Again, do your homework, dummy. The assault weapon was in effect during Columbine. DUH! Did the Ban stop Columbine? And many other mass murders were committed during the 10 year ban. Google it, dinkwad!
A ban on stupid won't help you and your people. So we all just need to work around your kind.
Liberalism is a mental disorder. You all want to do away with God. Well, Gangs are waiting to adopt unwanted children. Guns are being brought to school by sick people. And the government thinks it can parent everyone "their way". We need a higher power back in charge of our country. God. God Bless America!
slacker - OK, I'll cancel the order for a trachoe (sp) to show up at your place. LOL
bud - duh?
Someone isn't familiar with Thomas Jefferson and Thomas Payne.

Yogi, I used to help a lot of people also. It's too dangerous now. But I bet you G, bfra, loner and the ilk never opened their home to strangers unless there was something in it for them. They are all too self-centered. Bullies, if you will! And I still think Loner has either hurt someone deeply or been hurt deeply by someone. No one is a "loner" by choice -- or conscious choice. It is a deep wound that even he can't describe.
Anyway, back to topic. Does it really matter what we think? Obama and the royal rulers of the money will do as they choose.
By the way, I listened to a guy talk about Warren Buffet and who has studied & read about Buffet extensively. He said that Buffet's primary goal is to never pay taxes. He takes a modest income; reinvests everything and so on. And he is such a Hypocrite!
Second hand misinformation.
Blanket - They probably don't know what "original thought" means.
9:29 post should have been "assault weapon ban was in effect".
Nevertheless, if you ban all guns and melt them all down, people will kill in other ways.
Or haven't you libtards noticed that?
I think you're on to something about the entertainment media, slacker. The number one game is Call of Duty. Almost every television show (that is not a sitcom) has gun violence of some type.
It's saturated into everything, including music. One of the top songs of 2011 was "Pumped up Kicks". Look up the lyrics. That song was on top 40 radio.
It's everywhere. There's no way it doesn't have an effect.
g, how do you monitor the entertainment industry without stepping on freedom of expression?
I do believe that access to comprehensive mental healthcare would go a long way as well as trying to remove the stigma of mental illness.
How well do they know you, dumba$$? With your "buddyhoods" you all might know each other very well but none of you know "dudumbly squat" about me.
nazi, the stigma of mental illness will always be around, just like the stigma of being ugly.. a human nature thing.
B2,
Shouldn't you go a little deeper in the subject and see where the "birthers" were started?
It's really more about parents monitoring what they're kids are exposed to than censoring Hollywood. But that shouldn't mean we can't discuss the causes for Hollywood condoning so much violence.
I remember the Roy Rogers movies. Roy never shot anybody, he just shot the gun out of their hand. Boring arse movies.
Freaking Gabby Hayes!
It was implied, slacker. So was Roy and Trigger's relationship...not that there's anything wrong with that...
Backhoe, bfra, backhoe. You can dig one helluva hole in the ground with one of them. You could even bury a Sherman tank.
But a bulldozer would be easier and faster.
What can I say? Roy kissed Trigger.. a lot.
I say... bring back the Joe Pesci reads bedtime stories.
There is limits, B2. Can you legally yell FIRE! in a crowed theater?
I went to a crowed theater once...got bird crap all over my new suit...couldn't hear the movie for all the cawing...never again.
Blanket, is this misinformation? Or just something you can't comprehend?
"On the same day as the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre, a “disturbed 36-year-old Chinese man, armed with a kitchen knife, walked into an elementary school in central Henan province and allegedly began attacking students. Although police say he was able to injure 23 children and an elderly villager, none of the injuries were severe and he was subdued a short time later by police and teachers.” That’s the account from Voice of America, which goes on to say “See? Gun control works! If we banned guns in the U.S. then mass murderers couldn’t murder so efficiently. Lives would be saved!” A Google search of “china knife massacre” shows that hundreds of pro gun control commentators have take-up this misleading meme and run with it. If only they’d searched wikipedia . . .
Click here for the page “school attacks in China 2010 – 2011.” That’s where the “knives are better than guns” crowd could have learned that “an attacker named Wu Huanming (吴环明), 48, killed seven children and two adults and injured 11 other persons with a cleaver at a kindergarten in Hanzhong, Shaanxi on May 12, 2010.”
OK it was a cleaver not a knife attack and “only” seven children were killed, and the total death count was 17 shy of Adam Lanza’s carnage. Let’s add in another Chinese school spree killing from earlier in the year.
On 4 August 2010, 26-year-old Fang Jiantang (方建堂) slashed more than 20 children and staff with a 60 cm knife, killing 3 children and 1 teacher, at a kindergarten in Zibo, Shandong province.
That’s 13. Do we count this? “In September 2011, a young girl and three adults taking their children to nursery school were killed in Gongyi, Henan by 30-year-old Wang Hongbin with an axe.”
That’s three Chinese school-related killings involving an edged weapons that killed 17 people in one year, just three shy of the total victims of Adam Lanza’s murderous rampage. (Not including victims disfigured in the attacks.)
Last year. If we go back to 2004, Yan Yanming ”entered a dormitory at the Number Two High School in Ruzhou, China on November 26, 2004 with a knife and attacked twelve boys, killing nine of them.”
Point taken? Eliminating guns doesn’t eliminate the threat—or even the severity of the threat—of school slaughter. Lest we forget, the worst ever massacre school killer used dynamite."
Worst ever massacre school killer used dynamite. So do we ban dynamite? It's already a controlled substance.
Did you read what Lanza's barber said. He stated that Adam Lanza never moved unless his mother told him to. He never looked up and never spoke. There is something going on in that family that is sick. Many doctors are speaking out that children with autism are not violent to the point of planning a mass murder.
I am so sad for those families. I wish we could all unite so that they didn't die in vain. But we won't; we'll argue till the cows come home.
duh?
Can also did a hole with a shovel! Have at it .
s/h/d have been "dig"
On second thought, the ignorant one can probably dig it with his nose!
So do we ban dynamite?
Really? When was the last time you went to Walmart and bought a stick? Idiot.
It's amazing to me how far some people go to defend the indefensible. It's scary actually.
Regarding Warren Buffet, bud.

Never give a knife to a guy named ''Fang''.. Sid.
We need to add some Payne to that discussion, brrrrk!
