Up for Debate: HSBC, too big to jail

Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at 1:26am

In other news last week, HSBC said it would pay a record $1.9 billion settlement as the U.S. Department of Justice decided not to indict the London-based company on allegations that it laundered billions of dollars in international drug cartel money. Are worries that prosecuting such a large company might destabilize the world economy enough to not hold its executives responsible for any possible criminal actions, particularly when untold numbers of individuals are prosecuted for the same crimes?

Lunatic Fringe - in the twilight's last gleaming
This is open season, but you won't get too far

More on the 1963 congress:

16. Use technical decisions of the courts to weaken basic American institutions by claiming their activities violate civil rights.
17. Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current Communist propaganda. Soften the curriculum. Get control of teacher's associations. Put the party line in textbooks.
18. Gain control of all student newspapers.
19. Use student riots to foment public protests against programs or organizations which are under Communist attacks.
20. Infiltrate the press. Get control of book-view assignments, editorial writings, policy making positions.
21. Gain control of key positions in radio, TV and motion pictures.
22. Continue discrediting American culture by degrading all forms of artistic expression. An American Communist cell was told to "eliminate all good sculpture from, parks and buildings. Substitute shapeless, meaningless forms."
23.
23. Control art critics and directions of art museums."Our plan is to promote ugliness, repulsive, meaningless art."
24. Eliminate all laws governing obscenity by calling them "censorship" and violation of free speech and free press.
25. Break down cultural standards of morality by promoting pornography and obscenity in books, magazines, motion pictures, radio and TV.
26. Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity as "normal, natural, healthy".
27. Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with "social" religion. Discredit the Bible and emphasize the need for intellectual maturity which does not need a "religious crutch".
28. Eliminate prayer or any phase of religious expression in the schools on the ground that it violates the principle of "separation of church and state".
29. Discredit the American Constitution by calling it inadequate, old fashion, out of step with modern needs, a hindrance to cooperation between nations on a worldwide basis.
30. Discredit the American Founding Fathers. Present them as selfish aristocrats who had no concern for the "common man".

More to come. How many have you associated Barack Obama with?

As I recall Little Beaver murdered his wife (with legal handgun).. whilst she was waiting in the car.
Beaver managed to get the OJ jury to come out of retirement, and aquit him.

A bird can yell and sh!t in a crowded theater all they want, gdiafante. Humans can't. At least not legally. How loud did you yell?

By: gdiafante on 12/19/12 at 11:46

Hand guns are made for killin'
Ain't no good for nothin' else
And if you like your whiskey
You might even shoot yourself

So why don't we dump 'em people
To the bottom of the sea
Before some fool come around here
Wanna shoot either you or me

I'm afraid I won't live long enough to bury my Sherman tank with a shovel, bfra.

To refresh your "knowledge", you have to use that same damn shovel to bury that tank in the ground after you dig the hole. Then you have to load what's left (that is, unless you fill the tank with it) into a truck and haul it away. And if it isn't a dump truck, you have to shovel that damn dirt out of it.

I'd rather use a bulldozer. You can just spread the remainder out over the ground. Simple and easy. I'm sorry you don't know that. Wanna borrow my shovel? I won't lend you my gun.

By: gdiafante on 12/19/12 at 11:54

That's what she said.

More of that 1963 Congress' ignorant thoughts about the Communist party.

31. Belittle all forms of American culture and discourage the teaching of American history on the ground it was only a minor part of the "big picture". Give more emphasis to Russian history since the Communist took over.
32. Support any socialist movement to give centralized control over any part of the culture-education, social agencies, welfare programs, mental health clinics, etc.
33. Eliminate all laws or procedures which interfere with the operation of the Communist apparatus.
34. Eliminate the House committee on Un-American Activities.
35. Discredit and eventually dismantle the FBI.
36. Infiltrate and gain control of more unions.
37. Infiltrate and gain control of big businesses.
38. Transfer some of the powers of arrest from the police to social agencies. Treat all behavioral problems as psychiatric disorders which no one but psychiatrists can understand [or treat].
39. Dominate the psychiatric profession and use mental health laws as a means of gaining coercive control over those who oppose Communist goals.
40. Discredit the family as an institution. Encourage promiscuity and easy divorce.
41. Emphasize the need to raise children away from the negative influence of parents. Attribute prejudices, mental block and retarding of children to suppressive influence of parents.
42. Create the impression that violence and insurrection are legitimate aspects of the American tradition; that students and special interest groups should rise and use "united force" to solve economic, political or social problems.
43. Overthrow all colonial governments before native populations are ready for self-government.
44. Internationalized the Panama Canal.
45. Repeal the Connally reservation to the United States so the United States cannot prevent the World Court from seizing jurisdiction over domestic problems. Give the World Court jurisdiction over nations and individuals alike.

So, you Obama admirers, those findings were almost half a century ago. Read them and clap your hands, or read them and weep. How far do you think they have advanced today?
Too damn far.

We obviously had a "more" American congress in 1963 than we do toady.

By: yogiman on 12/19/12 at 12:44

Oh, and by the way: The communist attitude is; "One step at a time". So how many steps have they taken the last 50 years?

Yogi, notice how the libtards tard up when it's time for a deep meaningful conversation.

And one can get dynamite; maybe not at walmart, but people do know how to build bombs, in case you have note heard. In fact, there are instructions on the net so I'm told.

Banning a gun is not the answer. Removing the Ban on God is the answer.

By: gdiafante on 12/19/12 at 1:57

That's right bud, you can build a bomb out of fertilizer and fertilizer is legal. You can build things out of ordinary cleaning supplies, if you desire, but that's not their intended purpose. What is the purpose of an automatic weapon?

Removing the Ban on God is the answer.

Right...Adam Lanza's problem wasn't mental illness, it was that he wasn't religious. Genius.

F'ing retard...

By: yogiman on 12/19/12 at 2:01

Obama fans,

Many of you have been arguing how wrong I am on my argument about Barack Obama being in office illegally; because the was born in an America state. May I offer this "argument" as part of my argument.

Several of you have made comments about other candidates running in the presidential races as being ineligible because their father, or parents, were not American citizens even though the candidate was born in the USA. (Even though some of their parents were born to American citizens living in another nation)

May I ask what exception this argument places Barack Obama in as he states he was born with a father who was born in Kenya with Kenyan father? So if his father and grandfather were British subjects born in Kenya, what makes Barry different from the others?

By: gdiafante on 12/19/12 at 2:06

And by the way, dimbulb, it is illegal to make or possess a destructive device, which would include a homemade bomb. So is it your position that this is infringing upon your god-given right to blow something up?

Is today National Douchebag Day or something?

By: yogiman on 12/19/12 at 2:12

budlight,

It's been years ago now, but I was trying to "open" a well on my farm. I went to a supply house to buy a couple of sticks of dynamite.

I was simply asked what I was going to do with it and when I told them to blow my well he brought out a full case of dynamite. They didn't sell just a couple of sticks. And he didn't tell me, or suggest, what to do with what I had left.

By: dargent7 on 12/19/12 at 2:29

Couple of things...
"Arm all the teachers"?
No.
Just the Principal and the custodians.
You want to make a bomb from lessons followed on the Internet?
Next to impossible.
I've had a chemistry set since age 7 and unless you can buy 200#'s of fertilizer at ACE Hardware you cannot blow anything up. McVeigh got lucky as did the 1st World Trade Center bombers.
Those idiots don't know shit about bomb making.
Look at all the meth labs in homes/ basements blowing up.
Scooter and Nimrod have 8th grade educations. They wouldn't know pipettes from their weenies.

By: bfra on 12/19/12 at 2:41

d7 - Hi! Heard there was a bad pile up on I-5, but I don't think it was close to you. Those multi car pile ups are getting more regular.

Those nimrod posts get more inane with every comment.

If a bridge blows up in Antioch, we know where to send the FBI!

By: BigPapa on 12/19/12 at 2:49

actually if you know what it takes to make meth you'd be damn impressed that someone w/o a college degree can piece it all together.

I saw a presentation by local law enforcement and was amazed. Those meth heads are pretty darned resourceful, and there's some high level chemistry involved.

Armed with what? A hand gun? Up against an AK? Principle says, bang! Intruder says, bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang! Who's the winner? And if the intruder is smart who does he go after first? You know who.....

My nephew worked for several years in law enforcement (as well as being an MP) and the one thing he used to always say is that the bad guy with the gun always has the advantage because they are committed to whatever they are doing and care about nothing but themselves and their goal. Police officers don't have that luxury.... let alone a minimally trained armed civilian who has had very little experience with something like this.

By: bfra on 12/19/12 at 2:54

BigPapa - Well that lets bud out, so I guess the bidge in Antioch is sale, for now.

By: dargent7 on 12/19/12 at 3:10

brrrrk: I "worked" for law enforcement myself...was arrested many times.
The geniuses who want the Guns 'n Trunks" law passed really think if a maniac entered the building, looking for his ex-girlfriend or wife (usually), you'd have enough time to run to the Employee parking lot, get into your truck, retrieve your gun, and run back into the building?
The last place I worked in Nashville was Gannett on Broadway.
We all had electronic badges that allowed us into/ exiting the parking lot, building and our offices. To and from. No gunman could waltz in and shoot anybody.

By: yogiman on 12/19/12 at 3:10

Sorry, bfra,

I'll sue you for having for a fake call. I only used a few sticks of that dynamite when I bought it and brought the rest of it with me when I bought my new farm.

I laid it "to rest" and forgot about it until a friend told me what I should do with it. I would tell you but I don't think someone with your mentality should know. Too dangerous.

By: bfra on 12/19/12 at 3:13

Only if you had the caps stored with it! Dumbasses don't usually know not to do this.

By: dargent7 on 12/19/12 at 3:18

bfra: The 60 car pile up was in Yreka, wherever that is...250 miles N. of Sacremento, where ever that is.
I had to put on sunscreen today...only 55 but cloudless. Ha!
This am it was 38.
Wish to God the A-holes who sold me on this place told me it was COLD from Dec. to April.
Left behind so many cool winter gear in Nashville thinking I'd be walking around in bermuda shorts and flip- flops all year.
Had to buy gloves.....life's a bitch sometimes.

Truth be told, I'm more scared of those "geniuses", they're nothing but a bunch of paranoids. The guy who sits in the cubicle behind me is convinced the guv'ment is just over the hill watching every move he makes.

By: yogiman on 12/19/12 at 3:45

It would depend on who hit first, brrrrk; and where. Panic and you're going to lose.

By: yogiman on 12/19/12 at 3:48

Slow down, bfra. Did you mean bridge for sale or safe?

By: dargent7 on 12/19/12 at 4:01

Before I go...
The nuts who passed the 'Guns 'n Bars" law act like that's ok, since the carriers cannot drink. Really? You know how many had a few brewskis before they went to the bar? Mowing the lawn, painting the fence, watching a ball game...what bull****. How many are on some sort of medication? Altering judgment. How many can shoot straight in 10 watts of light?
Now, "Guns 'n Trunks"? "Wait just a minute there, shooter, while I go to my car down the block and get my gun...." "Never mind the fact you'll fire off 30 rounds in the 3-5 minutes I'm gone...".
Complete insanity.
At least in California they embrace the fact they're insane....
We actually re-cycle GLASS...curbside.

By: yogiman on 12/19/12 at 4:03

Apparently you don't know any more about dynamite than I did decades ago, bfra. Do you even know what dynamite is made of?

I know I'm not an expert like you and don't know anything about dynamite now, but back then in was made of sawdust soaked in a fluid wrapped in waxed paper. And if it was left laying the fluid would drain out of the sawdust. Bad, bad, bad when it all drained out of the sawdust. And if it's hit by a bolt of lightening it can blow the hell out of everything. I burned what I had left up.

With this bunch "experts" now, I wish I'd kept it.

Let's not forget that the biggest advocate in Tennessee for guns in bars (because red blooded gun totin' Tennesseans would never drink while being around a loaded gun) was busted for DUI... with a loaded gun in his car. :-)
