Up for Debate: Humane Society takes on walking horse abuse

Thursday, May 17, 2012 at 10:48pm

What do you make of the Humane Society of the United States' graphic undercover video (which can be found on YouTube)? Pepsi pulled its sponsorship of the Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration over the release of the video. Reports of abuse have been around for years. Do you think authorities will ever crack down on the practice?

This inhumane treatment has been knowingly going on for years. Looks like Pepsi is pulling out because it has been brought as a more openly known issue to the the public.

By: yogiman on 5/18/12 at 12:10

It looks like another devastating issue has been brought to the public. Check out www.wnd.com/2012/05/arpaio-reacts-to-latest-obama-kenya-connection/

By: dargent7 on 5/18/12 at 5:42

Oh, jeez. Our resident "5150" occupier brings up Obama's "Kenya Connection".
And the subject was Tenn. walking horses.

By: Ummm... on 5/18/12 at 5:58

Yeah d7- I opened this page this morning and was so disgusted to see his crap I just closed it again. Surely there's a lunatic fringe forum somewhere that would be willing to take this bozo off our hands.

By: dargent7 on 5/18/12 at 6:08

Umx3: He gets his talking points from this nut case up in Alaska. No way a hillbilly from Tenn. could come up with terms like, "usurper", "usurperation", "resurped", on his own.
Maybe Scooter working at the local meth lab, but not Paul Wade.

By: Loner on 5/18/12 at 6:38

Good morning, Nashville.

Sounds like Pepsi did the right thing, IMO. Whipping horses with cattle prods and using chemicals to burn their hooves, so they walk pretty is barbaric stuff....the whole business ought to be boycott, the offenders put behind bars.

Shelbyville should be ashamed to host the disgusting spectacle.

Horses have served Homo sapiens faithfully for thousands of years....now that the internal combustion engine has made their labor no longer vital to human survival, we humans ought to have the decency to show some gratitude to those magnificent beasts. Liberate the horses!

By: yogiman on 5/18/12 at 6:53

Ummm,

You can call me a lunatic all you wish. I just consider the source and ignore it. You and your faithful co-posters on this site are the lunatics on this site by being so willing to accept someone in the highest office of this nation when it is so obvious they are in that office illegally. Yet you're so willing to back him all the way to the corruption of our nation.

By: Rasputin72 on 5/18/12 at 6:56

I look at the Walking horse "industry" and the people who voted for Barack Hussein Obama in the same manner.

On second thought thinking people can do something about the atrocity brought upon the horses. The people that voted for Barack Hussein Obama are a majority class and nothing can be done to completely stop the devastation completely. We may slow it down but the die is cast for a "new America"

By: Loner on 5/18/12 at 6:58

Our resident bozo seems to downplay the cruelty to horses issue...claims it's been going on for years....what's the big deal....spoken like an ex-prison guard who knows the value of a little torture.....no biggie.

I agree, Ummm, Yogi is poisoning the atmosphere that this posting community once enjoyed....his constant whining about our first black president being ineligible for the job has turned off many of the regular posters... to the point that they no longer post here.

Yogi violates the Terms of Service, IMO, because he is nothing more than a single-issue troll who enjoys turning people off...he feels some sort of power in that.
I do not normally call for banishment ; but Yogi has repeatedly shown contempt for this posting community and our host.

If it were my decision to make, Yogi's IP address would be added to the NCP fecal roster of banned A-holes.....we tried to work with the man, it's no use...he's simply a jerk who wallows in his own ignorance.

By: budlight on 5/18/12 at 7:01

Remember Yogi, Liberalism is a mental disease. They can't "hep" it.

Paul, no not Yogi, you D7, you didn't answer my question. Did you get named after Paul Wade? or Ron Paul? Of Pope Paul?

And if Pepsi pulled out of the walking horse event, good! I don't like Pepsi anyway. I am not in favor of cruelty to animals and I'm sure the Walking Horse event will eventually go the way of everything else in Tennessee -- it will disappear. If the animal rights protectionists have their way, you meat eaters will eventually be reduced to eating slugs for protein.

By the way, you horse lovers, did ya'll know that there is a horse meat processing plant in Tennessee? How come ya'll are not boycotting or standing on the courthouse steps protesting that one?

Wowie! Loner as far back as I can recall, there has been someone being placed in the hall of shame and degraded on this site. I can pull up comments from past where you all lambasted me severely. Live and let live. If Yogi wants to talk about Obama, let him. After all, you, Paul, and your ilk usually change the subject at will. Trust me, you all are not saints, nor are you perfect, as you claim you are.

Hi Yogi; have a nice day. Welcome to Friday!

By: dargent7 on 5/18/12 at 7:06

It's Pope John Paul...
Why not pick on Paul Newman or Paul McCartney?
Maybe Ru Paul.
I don't care.

I second that emotion!

By: Loner on 5/18/12 at 7:10

Damn vegetarians and their girlie-man agendas....Budlight turns her wrath and anger at Pepsi, not at those who are profiting from cruelty to these innocent animals....Bud knows about the horsemeat market, because she dines on the flesh of horses?

Yogi's little Buddy has a point, folks should be protesting outside the slaughterhouse for horses....shining a little light on abuse can have a rapid sanitizing effect.

By: budlight on 5/18/12 at 7:10

Ru Paul is Ru Paul Charles. His last name is Charles. Not Paul.

And you're not good looking enough to be named after Paul Newman. McCartney is ugly, so maybe him.

And OK, I'll take off Pope Paul, aka Pope John Paul. I don't care.

But if you're gonna reference Ru, then use his right name. I bet you're President of his fan club.

By: budlight on 5/18/12 at 7:13

Loner, you are so "ass"umptive. I do not eat horsemeat; would not; could not; will not; do not; cannot; and so on.

Yogi, thanks for all the informative links you provide. I appreciate you. Loner does too, he's just afraid to let his feelings show; he's afraid the other guys will not talk to him anymore.

By: Loner on 5/18/12 at 7:18

OK, horsebreath, whatever.

By: Ummm... on 5/18/12 at 7:22

Apparently today was "Cretin's Fan Club" day and that brought Rasputin and brainedlight out to play. Fine- I'll wait until the idiocy runs it's course to attempt to engage in sensible discussion. Good morning, Loner, have at them (obviously you have a stronger stomach than I).

By: Loner on 5/18/12 at 7:29

I see your point, Ummm...it does look like "Cretin's Fan Club" day at the Nashville City Paper....it's nice outside and my motorcycle is standing by, ready to roll on down the highway...think I'll leave the board too...let the cretins celebrate...after all it is their day.....let them sniff each other's nether regions and howl at Uranus.... I'm outta here.

By: Captain Nemo on 5/18/12 at 7:31

The people on this board are hater of us Christians. How dare they even speak to me, yogi and Rasputin in any manner than the respect we so rightfully deserve?

B. Itch.

Another Horses Ass

By: Captain Nemo on 5/18/12 at 7:34

Soon the clone Parnell will tell us off. LOL

By: yogiman on 5/18/12 at 7:37

Loner,

I'll repeat a comment I made before: Prove Obama is in that office legally and I'll "shut my mouth". But until you do (which you can't), I'm going to holler as loud as I can to alert the people who accept him simply because of his race of what he is trying to do to this nation.

You have called me a racist, yet the only reason you can give as reason you voted for him was because of his race because you didn't know anything personal about him. And you aren't a racist? Gimme a break.

By: yogiman on 5/18/12 at 7:41

budlight,

I don't know your age, but during WWII Beef was hard to find in a store and many people ate horse meat. And horse meat has been prepared for dogs for decades now.

By: dargent7 on 5/18/12 at 7:42

BudLite: Your post at 7:10am is completely psychotic.
"McCartney is ugly..." How much thought did you put into that statement?
Tell you what,...shave your ass and walk backwards and then we'll see the real meaning of," butt ugly".

By: Captain Nemo on 5/18/12 at 7:48

The Walking Horse industry is and has been corrupt for decades and will continue to be so, as long as there is big money involved. People who abuse animal fall back on their bible to justify the mistreatment of animals and will turn their heads and point to the Bible as evidence of their right to treat amimals;

Genesis 1:28 ESV / 29 helpful votes
And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

By: yogiman on 5/18/12 at 7:52

budlight,

Living on a small farm as a boy, I had a horse. He was like a friend. His name was "lightening". I always thought daddy named him after me.

The walking horses were being treated their cruel way even back then. I understood the drove nails in their hoof back then. That's why I never would go to a Tennessee Walking horse show. Still wouldn't.

By: dargent7 on 5/18/12 at 7:54

Nut-Job: What's with this, "We don't know anything about him?"
His resume, bio, family tree, childhood pictures, mother and father's pictures, birth cert. were all over the Internet, 100% accessable, during his Presidential run during 2008. You psychotic "Birthers" want his college transcripts? SAT scores? Name ONE President that was asked for, before Obama. LBJ, Nixon, Clinton. Were'd LBJ go to college? Clinton was a Rhodes Scholar. Did you demand his GPA at Oxford?
I'm quite certain Obama knows he's half black and doesn't need or want the discrimination form racist ass-holes, like yourself.
You are a complete idiot to continue to say, "We don't know who he is".
He wasn't in the Senate like a Orin Hatch for 40 years. He rose quickly, and thanks be to God he won the Presidency.
Had McCain and Palin got the keys, we'd be in WW IV or V by now..
Wake up and smell the coffee and count your blessings.

By: yogiman on 5/18/12 at 8:00

Loner,

Just wondering... much has been said lately about Romney bringing Marco Rubio into the picture as his VP. Rubio is no more eligible for that office than Obama is for the president's office. If Rubio is put in office illegally, I'll simply change names and positions in trying to educate you and your fellow ignorant co-posters on constitutional eligibility.

By: bfra on 5/18/12 at 8:03

Read Rasputin's comment under the main topic. He/she doesn't even know that walking horses are a breed of their own. He/she sounds like he/she thinks you can take any ole horse & abuse it into being a walking horse. Yet he/she states he/she's family has been associated with the industry for years. Thanks again Pepsi!

That he/she gets old, in the future I'll just refer to Rasputin as It.

yogi, the question is do you know what you just said?

New issue, children: A three hour interview with Obama's former preacher, Rev. Wright, has been brought out. I can't wait to hear all of it. From what I've heard of it, he sounds like an honest man in his comments.

I mean, the guy is our less than lovable Yogi One-Note....and his one note is, "Usurper!" The man is possessed by a demon? His obsession with the President's legitimacy is some kind of psychosis, IMHO....but I'm no physician....to use the vernacular, the man is whacked.

Loner, what do you expect from this North Korean finger-puppet? Duck Farts?

Not just "any" 12 year old, freddy me boly. You must be an intelligent positive thinking 12 year old to come into this bar... I mean post.

The Moron posted this last Friday. What is a “boly”? Cood (sic) it be what yogi calls his braids (sic)? LOL

If you had the knowledge you think you have...this is a good example of the mentality of a homonut’icus yogus.

By: bfra on 5/18/12 at 8:10

There has been 1 horse, I (think) Midnight Sun that could hit the "big lick" naturally. Hence soring & abuse was started to make a beautiful animal walk that walk for human entertainment. The Humane Society should have stepped in years ago.

TGIF, my friends!

"McCartney is ugly..." How much thought did you put into that statement?

D7, I do not think McCartney is a handsome man. I think Paul New was. So what is wrong with me expressing that I don't think he's attractive? Guess you'll have to sic Obama on me now. And what's up with all your hostility defending McCartney's looks? Hmmmmm

Hey Yogi, yes I know about the shortage of beef, etc. I still don't advocate eating horses. (or dogs or cats). Quite frankly since there are 1 million dogs and cats put to sleep annually (or more), I'm surprised Obama is not advocating for them to be served in school cafeterias.

Did ya'll hear that a team of physicians sent a proposed bill (or letter) to Michele and Barack (aka whomever) to stop eating the hot dogs, hamburgers and junk food on TV while they are trying to force us to eat grass (aka healthy)? Kind of ironic, wouldn't you say? Par for the discourse!

By: BenDover on 5/18/12 at 8:29

Blanket!!!!! I was getting ready to write the whole day off and you shined a little light on the darkness here. How've you been?

By: budlight on 5/18/12 at 8:29

Animal lovers unite!

" Dear Animal Advocates,

Each branch of the Armed Forces uses military working dogs (MWDs) in service to the country. Many of these intelligent, loyal animals serve alongside our soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan, where they have prevented countless injuries and saved lives.

Unfortunately, these heroic dogs are currently classified as “equipment” by the U.S. Department of Defense. This classification not only trivializes these animals’ contributions, it also makes it difficult to transport dogs serving in foreign lands back to the United States for adoption once they’re ready for civilian life.

The Canine Members of the Armed Forces Act will remedy this issue by reclassifying MWDs as “canine members of the armed forces” and instituting programs to assist with their placement and veterinary care after retirement from service—all without using federal funds. This legislation seems like a no-brainer, and yet the bill has only seven cosponsors in the Senate. "

So now Loner and Paul, do something about that.

By: Captain Nemo on 5/18/12 at 8:31

What is ironic is that we have an Air Quality Alert today and budlight is posting. I wonder.
