Up for Debate: Jury upholds minimum fares

Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at 12:25am

Last week, a federal jury upheld Metro's minimum fares for non-taxi “for-hire” transportation companies. Do you think this practice is fair? Is it too much government interference or just enough?

I since I could keep the insurance I already I never thought of Medicare as a competitive issue, just a 'take it dammit, you have no choice.

That makes no sense.

You may use Medicare but you surely don't understand it. FIrst, only part A is mandatory. Second, you are not prohibited from purchasing supplemental insurance, like gap-insurance, from private insurance carriers...because...Medicare doesn't cover everything.

Maybe you confuse regulation with industry takeover...you have a six month window to get the gap insurance with private insurance. After that period, the private insurance companies can deny the gap insurance and charge you whatever they want.

A government takeover would have the government controlling ALL private insurance. Maybe you should contact BCBS, CIGNA and other insurance carriers and tell them they've been taken over...lol

However, yogi thinks he knows that Obamacare is a bad thing even though he's now in his 80's and still doesn't understand Medicare although he's been using it for over a decade!

slacker - It was a swinging "joint" and was rumored to be owned by the mafia. As I remember, it had areas that were off limits.

re:cabs, in general.
Hardly ever ride them.
Did once from the dtw. Sheraton to 46th St. About 5 miles.
Was $9.70. Gave the Indian driver $11.00 and he looked at me as if I asked to marry his daughter.
The drivers drive like shit and their cabs are dirty and stink.
That's all I have to say about that.

Here we go....gun-toting mafia enforcer, carrying an arm-load of Karl Dean political posters, barges into a gay piano bar in Nashville....

bfra, I know who ran it.. but I can't talk.. no cement shoes for me.

Orders up a ''Horses Neck''... neat..

By: gdiafante on 1/30/13 at 1:07

And says, well hello there yogi...

By: Loner on 1/30/13 at 1:09

Horse's Neck recipe:

The key to a Horse's Neck is the lemon peel which hangs off the rim of the glass and resembles the neck of a horse hanging into the drink. Sometimes brandy is used instead of bourbon or it can served as a mocktail, which is what I believe was its original intention. For that simply skip the liquor and you'll have a fancy ginger ale.

spiral lemon peel
2 oz bourbon
8 oz Ginger ale
2-3 dashes Angostura bitters (optional)

Place the spiral lemon peel into a collins glass.
Secure one end of the peel over the lip of the glass.
Add ice cubes to the glass.
Pour in the bourbon and ginger ale.
Add a dash of bitters, if desired.
Stir well.

Chicago is wonderful. ;)

Yes, they have the tightest gun control laws and only 500 deaths in 2012 by guns. Great place!

But what about Afghanistan? How many are killed there by gunfire daily? or bombs?

By: Loner on 1/30/13 at 1:38

Non sequitur, Bud...no relevance....apples and oranges, girl.

By: Loner on 1/30/13 at 1:43

Afghanistan is a foreign country, not an American city. Afghanistan has been at war for over ten years with the USA occupying the place...before that, they warred with the USSR for several years....last I knew, the Windy City was still US territory and not a burned-out, occupied war zone....Bud tried to equate the two places.....and failed.....is she mindlessly parroting more NRA BS?

By: Loner on 1/30/13 at 1:51

Speaking of the NRA...a 65-year-old Alabama man, who is a Nut, a Redneck and an A-hole, (NRA), is holding a 6-year old schoolboy hostage in an underground bunker...the gunner shot the boy's school bus driver, then kidnapped the kid.

How will the NRS's LaPierre explain away and downplay this one? Will he suggest: Turret gunners, with a pair of fully automatic 50 cals, on the roofs of every school bus?

Here's a link:

I've read where Chicago already has 43 at the last count for this year, budlight, and they're just getting started. It looks like they're off to a good start.

NRS s/h/b NRA my bad.

Jim Nabors (Gomer Pyle) married yesterday.
To his sweetheart of 38 years.
A guy....it turns out. Now, he's "out".
This "gay" thing is getting out of control.

If any of you usurper favorites have the heart you think you have, you should see how to keep it pumping. It might even work for you even though yours are different.

By: gdiafante on 1/30/13 at 2:12

What, no comment on the Medicare issue, yogi? Oh that's right, you ignore facts when presented and the pretend to ignore everything else. Dumbass.

By: gdiafante on 1/30/13 at 2:19

Darge, everyone's known about Jim Nabors for years. He'll I knew he was gay before I knew what gay was. At least now he doesn't have to pretend.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 1/30/13 at 2:21

yogi and bud: what year did Chicago have the most homicides and how many homicides did they have that year? And when did gun control go into effect?

By: bfra on 1/30/13 at 2:22

gdiafante - If yogi only commented on things he knows something about, he would never have another comment on this board.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 1/30/13 at 2:22

You two should know the answer to this, I've posted it before......

For extra credit, what is Rahm Emanuel's home town?

By: slacker on 1/30/13 at 2:32

Tel Aviv?

By: slacker on 1/30/13 at 2:36

I'll take famous landmarks $400.. nazi..

By: slacker on 1/30/13 at 2:38

Who put the Rahm in the Rhama Lama Ding Dong?

By: yogiman on 1/30/13 at 2:44

I don't know, B2. I never kept track of them. Maybe you know the questions to a better quiz... if you got 3 out of 5 right, you won a hundred bucks. (Sorry, but the quiz is over but do you know the answers?)

By: yogiman on 1/30/13 at 2:51

How many more comments should I make about Medicare, gdifante? Maybe you could tell me what I don't know so I can give you your correct answers.

I know what it was when I went through it and I wasn't asked if I wanted it or not. Has the laws changed?

By: Blanketnazi2 on 1/30/13 at 3:07

Kept track? No one asks you to keep track however it would be nice for you to get your facts straight before you post your nonsense. You keep posting the same old lies day after day.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 1/30/13 at 3:08

So, now that you know you have no facts to back up your statements about Chicago crime, you go off on your usurper crap again. What a moron.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/30/13 at 3:12

Don't answer him gdia. He will comment on his own

Hey, look - another murder committed by a legal gun carrier.

A 69-year-old war veteran and former missionary was arrested over the weekend on the suspicion of killing a 22-year-old Cuban immigrant who mistakenly arrived in his driveway because of faulty GPS directions....

“He didn’t talk to them, he just started shooting,” Cardenas explained. “The first shot was in the air.”

At that point, Diaz tried to turn the car around to leave, but Sailors fired another shot, striking the immigrant on the left side of the head. The group, which included a 15 and an 18 year old, said that Sailors held them at gunpoint until police arrived.

The arrest warrant suggested that Sailors had shot Diaz with a .22 caliber pistol. He was charged with malice murder.

By: yogiman on 1/30/13 at 3:36

Sorry, B2, I obviously aren't as smart as you. I only go by what I read or hear. I wasn't there when they killed the first 43 this month. Was you?

And to be blunt, I don't give a damn how many are killed there every year as long as I'm not one of them.

But you can be my guest and keep track for me. It'll be good to have a source when I'm asked the question.

And the usurper "crap"? I'm still waiting for proof your man is in office legally. Unless you're in favor of a dictator, you had better wake up, young woman because your man Barry has ignored the Constitution from day one.

And I'll admit, he isn't our biggest problem. Congress is for backing him without question.

Wake up, kid. Why has he put out that executive order that you can be arrested for no reason and put under lock and key without trial?

Tell me, 11 states said they would pass a bill that would require everyone to prove they are eligible to run for an office..., but none of them did. Why not? The states? Conn, Georgia, Indiana, Maine, Missouri, Nebraska, Maryland, Oklahoma, Penn, Texas and Arizona. And I heard Tennessee was going to pass such a bill. But none of them did. Why not?

By: BenDover on 1/30/13 at 3:43

It's not insurance anymore if you have to accept pre-existing conditions, gd. The health insurance industry is annihilated with that one policy. Who pays for home owner insurance if you can wait until after there's a fire?

They'll do disbursements of claims, etc. through highly regulated 3rd parties -- ex-insurance companies -- until the government decides to take over the administration too like they have student loans.

Obviously not. Try starting with proper grammar.

re: Jim Nabors
Watching "The Andy Griffith Show" he was silly and goofy but didn't act gay.
Goober either
Even "Gomer Pyle USMC" his schtic was goofy but not gay.
Never watched "The Brady Bunch" for more than 5 seconds, but Reed didn't "act gay".
Now Lurch on The Addams family I thought was gay...Uncle Fester and Cousin It, too.
It, for sure.

Gomer walks into a gay bar in Mayberry....

A shame his marriage to Rock Hudson wasn't really true. Rock Pyle is a kinda catchy name there.

By: dargent7 on 1/30/13 at 4:52

....my last gay remark:
When Rosie O'Donnel came out I could see it.
Anderson Cooper, too.
Now, I'm expecting my dad to announce he's gay.
