Up for Debate: Last straw for NFL's replacements?

Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at 1:56am

Do you think the replacement refs blown call at the end of the Seattle-Green Bay game Monday forces the NFL to settle the officials lookout? If so, how soon do you think the regular refs will take the field? Or do you think the NFL will circle the wagons and hold firm on its position? How frustrated, if at all, are you by the situation?

I am enjoying this season thus far as much as any in at least the last ten years.

These replacement refs have brought a new culture to the game that quite frankly rivals the culture of many NFL players

I would love to see the league dig in their heels for the sake of entertainment value.

I am sure the Romans had issues with their gladiators that irritated the fanbase as well.

By: dargent7 on 9/26/12 at 3:22

Jennings, #43 of GB, clearly caught the ball, had possession, and it was clearly an interception. The Seahawk wrestled the ball away once all were on the ground after the play should of been called dead.
Same crap happened at LP Field where a Lion caught the ball, no whistle was blown, and a Titan walks over and strips the ball from his hands and runs it for a TD.
The players are taking advantage of these inept refs by cheating. Just like when you went to class and there was a substitute teacher. Who learned anything then?
Total bullshit.
These refs need seeing eye dogs and jobs at Walmart.

By: gdiafante on 9/26/12 at 5:02

The Seahawk wrestled the ball away once all were on the ground after the play should of been called dead.

Nope. Golden Tate never had possession, simultaneous or otherwise at any point during the play, it was Jennings the whole time. That's what makes it so bad.

By: dargent7 on 9/26/12 at 5:09

That's what I said. Or meant to say. Jennings caught the ball, had possession, and brought himself and the ball down in the End Zone.
The Seahawk tried to steal the ball in a wrestling match because the scab refs either didn't know when or how to blow a whistle.

By: gdiafante on 9/26/12 at 5:29

The one ref had it right, the head linesman should have listened to both views, made a decision and announced it publicly and then reviewed. It was an epic failure across the board.

Of course the NFL doesn't care. Ratings are up, all anyone is talking about is the NFL and, like good car wreck, people will keep tuning in to see who gets screwed next week. I just hope it isn't my team.

By: gdiafante on 9/26/12 at 5:31

I'm not sure how much I blame the actual refs...they're in over their head, obviously, but I think they're doing their best. They shouldn't be in that position at all, and that's on the NFL.

Did you see what that idiot Jerry Jones said yesterday when asked about the play? He said he didn't see it...he turned it off at halftime.

I hope his pants are fire retardant...

By: dargent7 on 9/26/12 at 5:40

With all the cameras, all the angles, in HD, in slow-mo, with 'review", there's NO excuse
to blow a call like that... On the field, it was a Hail Mary pass and 5 guys went for the ball.
But, common'...morons like myself sitting at home on his 7th beer, (ok, 9th) could see #43 of GB caught the ball, clean. It was ugly, for sure, but he caught it.
Ruling that play a TD for Seattle is gross incompetence.
Then, after "review", stating the ruling stands, is a felony.

By: yogiman on 9/26/12 at 5:50

The sad part dargent7, the refs didn't have a TV there in the end zone to see. They had to make a personal decision.

As is known, the "pro-refs" also make bad decisions. None are perfect. Only God makes no mistakes.

By: dargent7 on 9/26/12 at 6:00

Ok, yogi, here's an associated article, front page, you may be able to understand...
A guy kills his girlfriend's husband, chops his head off, buries his corpse in his yard, and puts the head in the Re-cycler. Pick-up's on Weds.
In my neighborhood the Re-cyclers have clearly labeled instructions: "No Heads!"

I will not watch any NFL games until the regular refs have return.

By: dargent7 on 9/26/12 at 6:03

Refs have tv sets on the sidelines. There's called a "Review".
They can reverse the call or uphold it, made on the field.
Are you so ignorant on all subjects or just narrowed to Obama's "legalized" citizenship and usurpation?

By: Captain Nemo on 9/26/12 at 6:04

I read that one of the refs has only coached High School.

By: Captain Nemo on 9/26/12 at 6:05

shb refereed.

By: Loner on 9/26/12 at 6:05

Good morning, Music City.

Q: Do you think the replacement refs blown call at the end of the Seattle-Green Bay game Monday forces the NFL to settle the officials lookout?

A: Uh, "lookout" s/h/b "/lockout", right? This bizarre incident should settle the issue; but the owners are so greedy and out of touch with reality that this travesty may continue for another few weeks....it can't last the whole season long, IMO.

Q: If so, how soon do you think the regular refs will take the field?

A:Once it is settled, the refs will back on duty the next game day.

Q: Or do you think the NFL will circle the wagons and hold firm on its position?

A: Possibly...remember, this is the work of the owners, not the NFL as a whole. Union busting is very popular among the one-percenters and all the owners are in that group of wealthy fat cats. Since the players are also union-members, they should not suit up...they should respect the Official's Union and show solidarity.....but I do not expect to see that sort of strength of character in that group of millionaire egotists.

Q: How frustrated, if at all, are you by the situation?

A: I'm a fan of the NFL, but I'm not addicted to the sport..if the season collapses, I'll survive.

By: Captain Nemo on 9/26/12 at 6:07

Can the Sea Hawks really consider themselves the winner Monday, after it was given to them.

By: Loner on 9/26/12 at 6:08

I can't understand how and why the owners are digging in their heels on this...the refs make a small fraction of the money that is being shelled out in this game....the average NFL player must make considerably more money than any NFL Official earns.
This is a case of the owners being penny wise and dollar foolish...the whole thing could come apart at the seams.....the fans will only stand for so much BS.

By: gdiafante on 9/26/12 at 6:09

Can you imagine if this lasts all season and they go into the playoffs with the replacements? Can you imagine the Super Bowl ending like the Seattle/Green Bay game?

By: Captain Nemo on 9/26/12 at 6:14

Good morning Loner d7 and gdia. I am posting from Deep Gap N.C. At the elevation of 3285 feet. The temp is a nice 51 degrees.

By: parnell3rd on 9/26/12 at 6:16

Since the President of the United States does not have time on his busy View schedule to meet with world leaders, maybe he can get invilved and Give the NFL to the Union Refs.

By: Captain Nemo on 9/26/12 at 6:16

The fans need to settle this and not watch. The Networks will scream from here to hell.

By: Captain Nemo on 9/26/12 at 6:16

By: parnell3rd on 9/26/12 at 6:18

We can only hope that you loose your signal capt nemo.

By: parnell3rd on 9/26/12 at 6:19

hahahhahahha and I suppose you want the fans to stay home too?

By: gdiafante on 9/26/12 at 6:19

Yeah...Parnell must've forgotten about the President addressing the UN...oops.

[click] indeed

By: Loner on 9/26/12 at 6:19

One wonders, did these scab refs come from the ranks of the Pro-wrestling Referees?
They seem to be about as effective as those clowns are. But nobody is laughing.

Those fans who just want to witness carnage on the playing field will keep attending these "games"....those who love the game itself may decide to stay home or go fishing on game day.

The only way to get the attention of the owners is by way of declining gate & TV revenues ....if the ad-buying sponsors start to pull out; and if the stadiums are barely half-filled, the owners will quickly see the light.

By: gdiafante on 9/26/12 at 6:20

It's lose, not loose.

We can only hope you become literate, P3.

By: parnell3rd on 9/26/12 at 6:21

I thought democrats practiced peace, love, equality, tolerance, giving the other guy a chance?

By: gdiafante on 9/26/12 at 6:21

From what I understand, Loner, many of them are/were Division II or lower. The one on Monday was high school or something. Which is why I don't really blame them. They're in over their head. This is on the NFL.

By: gdiafante on 9/26/12 at 6:21

I thought...

Yeah right...lol...good one.

By: parnell3rd on 9/26/12 at 6:24

Thats right he did make a teleprompter speach at the UN. But no time for one on one talks. He said" that's why he has telephone's at the White House." To call world leaders. Stange, your in the same city, in the same building, but don't have tome for you guys. Got to go hang out with the the View

By: puddycat on 9/26/12 at 6:24

The nfl must have listened to obama chief of staff rahm emanuel in Nov 2008 when he said, "You never want a serious crisis to go to waste". They can milk this thing for as long as they want. As long as viewership, ratings, attendance, and discussion are up, so will be the revenues and unless those things decline, why should the nfl and the greedy owners change their position on the refs or do anything different??

But if they don't resolve their differences, one thing I think the nfl must do is get the regular refs out of the play review process and entirely out of the game. The officiating must not continue as a split crew situation. Regardless of whether regular or part time officiating crews are used, it should be 100% one way or the other.

The current situation, in the middle of the refs union contract negotiation, presents too many opportunities for officiating mischief on the field, in the review box, and during the game. Might as well have congress running around on the field in striped shirts and yellow flags with obama in the review box making sure the calls are correct or at least to his liking and fitting his agenda. We may run our Country that way but there is no place for that appearance in something as important as football.

By: parnell3rd on 9/26/12 at 6:26

yea gdia by your one sentance proves democrats are hypocrits and haters.

By: gdiafante on 9/26/12 at 6:27

Right...a President using a telepromptor to read a prepared speech...outrageous! lol

And telephones...nah...that Alexander Graham Bell was a Commie...

Could someone please get P3 a pacifier, please?

By: Loner on 9/26/12 at 6:28

Parnell is miffed, because BHO did not change his schedule to accommodate the Israeli Prime Minister, who demanded a meeting with our President.

Israel's supporters in the US are incensed over the "snub". Surely, the Israelis have a snuff job planned, if BHO gets re-elected....Obama is hated in the Jewish state.

BHO has referred to Netanyahu's incessant whining and bitching as "noise"....that comment has infuriated the Zionist Jews and their Christian allies....they want Obama's head on a platter.

I suggest that the Parnell types make aliyah to Israel, convert to Judaism, learn Hebrew, join the IDF and then go Arab-hunting...you can then shoot to kill with impunity.

By: gdiafante on 9/26/12 at 6:29

I'm consider myself an American first, Parnell. If you feel the need to put party first, by all means, go for it. It's not like you're the sharpest knife in the drawer...

Knock yourself out, Billy Joe Bob.

Hey, Parnell, I found this site and thought that you and the other Israel-firsters here would find it very interesting and inviting.....Shalom!

Well dargent7, I'll admit, I'm not an expert on professional football. But I am an expert on Obama's illegal citizenship and usurpation. May I offer you these points about your man Barry.

He told a cheering crown. "You didn't elect me to tell you what you wanted to hear. You elected me to tell you the truth." So let's see what his "truth" is by looking at the following. He is the first President in American history to do the following:

First President to refuse to show a valid Birth certificate.
First President to apply for college aid as a foreign student, then deny he was a foreigner.
First President to have a Social Security number from a state he's never lived in.
First P{resident to preside over a Cut in the Credit Rating of the United States Government.
First President to violate the War Powers Act.
First President to orchestrate the sale of murder weapons to Mexican Drug Cartels.
First President to be held in Contempt of Court for illegally obstructing oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico.
First President to defy a Federal Judge's Court Order to cease implementing the 'Health Care Reform Law'.
First President to require all Americans to purchase from a third party.
First President to spend a trillion dollars on 'shovel ready' jobs -- and later admit there was no such thing as shovel ready jobs.
First President to abrogate bankruptcy law to turn over control of companies to his union supporters.
First President to bypass Congress an implement the DREAM Act through Executive Fiat.
First President to order a secret amnesty program that stopped the deportation of illegal aliens across the US, including those with criminal convictions.
First President to demand a company hand over $20 billion to one of his political appointees.
First President to terminate America's ability to put a man into space.
First President to encourage racial discrimination and intimidation at polling places.
First President to have a law signed by an 'Auto-pen' without being "present".
First President to arbitrarily declare an existing law unconstitutional and refuse to enforce it.
First President to threaten insurance companies if the publicly speak out on their reasons for their rate increases.
First President to tell a major manufacturing company in which state they will be allowed to locate a factory.
First President to file lawsuits against States he swore an oath to protect (AZ, WI, OH, IN, etc).
First President to withdraw an existing coal permit that had been properly issued years ago.First President to fire an Inspector General of Ameri-corps for catching one of his 'friends' in a corruption case.
First President to propose and Executive Order demanding companies disclose their political contributions to bid on government contracts.
First President to appoint 45 'czars' to replace elected officials in his office.
First President to golf 73 times in his first two and a half years in office.
First President to hide his medical, educational and travel records.
First President to win a Nobel Peace Prize for doing nothing to earn it.
First President to publicly bow to America's enemies white refusing to salute the US Flag.
First President to go on multiple global apology tours.
First President to go on 17 'vacations', including 'date nights' paid for by us, the tax payers.

And he's only ending 1 term in office.

While we argue about football officiating, the Chinese have just launched their first aircraft carrier...not to worry, the USA has 11 carriers in service and three more under construction....of course, with the advent of hi-tech armed drone aircraft, anti-ship missiles and the like, these super dreadnoughts are probably going to be sitting ducks in a few decades....but don't tell the US Defense industry...they like the status quo....and their bribed politicians do too.....those guys are super patriots.

By: Loner on 9/26/12 at 6:56

Before I click, let me post this site... it debunks the E-mail that the troll dragged in here....and as usual, without citing his source:

There, no more troll droppings to deal with....I love this new feature.

By: yogiman on 9/26/12 at 7:14

Well, Loner, since you're such an Obama fan you might want to read the book "Audacity of Deceit", Barack Obama's war on American values by Brad O' Leary.

You can read six portions of it from the internet:

1. The Obama-Ayers incestuous money trail,
2. Obama's sweetheart-deal home loan,
3. The group Obama kept off his resume,
4. Obama's mentors,
5. Obama's radicals and
6. Obama's money rail.

Try it, you might like it. But being such an Obama fan, I doubt if you will.

By: Rasputin72 on 9/26/12 at 7:16

Yogi..............Out of your last 5,000 rants your 7:48 was without a doubt your best shot. I cannot verify how many are actually "firsts" but I can verify that he was involved in every "first" you mention.

The villagers do their "click" on you as though they are ignoring you. Rest assured that none of them ignore you otherwise there would be no need for their response.

Without you on this board six to eight other people would not have anything to fill their idle minds and empty pockets.

Remember this, the entire forum is manned by 16 to 18 people so you keep 30 to 50% of them entertained in some sordid way.

By: gdiafante on 9/26/12 at 7:17

LOL, Loner. You debunk it just as Raspy buys it. A sucker is born every minute...

Do you think the replacement refs blown call at the end of the Seattle-Green Bay game Monday forces the NFL to settle the officials lookout?

What is a lookout in pro football? I thought Tonto was the Lone Ranger's lookout?
And Parnell, you are right. Obama didn't have time for a Head of State but he had time for the football game and he weighed in on it. Maybe they should hire him and Michelle to officiate at the games. After all they are officiating in the cafeterias of our schools in America.

And Obama on the View. Well, that fits. My reason for saying that is too mean even for me to post. But suffice it to say I think those women are . . . . . . well, I won't say.

And normal season officials make bad calls so why isn't it acceptable for the fill in officials to make a bad call?

Rasp, your 8:15 post is an award winner. Possibly the Nobel Peace Prize or a Pulitizer Prize winner. But it was awesome. Keep up the good work Yogi. If I were wealthy, I"d send you a check. You know maybe we can get you some moola like that bus monitor got for being harranged by those nasty little kids on the bus. She ended up with $800,000 and didn't even have to sue. It would be interesting to see how many millions she could have gotten if a lawyer jumped in on her case. Oh, like Gloria Allred the ambulance chaser in LA.

Ya'll are just bored and have nothing else to talk about.

By: Loner on 9/26/12 at 7:36

For all of his claimed business acumen and financial savvy, the Rasp fails to recognize obviously partisan BS. I suspect that Rasp is a phony.....he acts the fool and a fool and his money are soon parted....the Rasp may well be a destitute and homeless man, a pitiable creature who plays the online role of a successful businessman.....a wealthy person who can afford to buy fresh halibut for 8 guests @ $35/pound....a man who enjoys foie gras......and gin.

I believe the gin part, but not much more than that.

But he's got a friend.....bless their hearts.

By: budlight on 9/26/12 at 7:36

Rasp, does click mean they are turning it off? If so, why do they remain on the post? Guess their "off" button is not working. Or maybe their "ON" button is "off".

I loved that hot tea on the lap post. One of the 47% will enter a new statistic. She'll probably get a settlement.

By: budlight on 9/26/12 at 7:38

And you, Loner. What's your back story. Lonely old fool who can't keep a friend so he runs everyone else down?

Bless your heart also. And you don't do gin, do you?
