Up for Debate: Looking at a 'black eye'

Do you see the scrap metal plant along the Cumberland River as an eyesore or just part of the city? Should it be a priority to relocate it?

Good morning, Nashville.

I do not live in Nashville. I do not have to look at a huge scrap metal pile every day. So, my feelings on the matter are not really relevant.

When I visited Nashville, in 2004, I did notice the massive mountain of metal that blights the Metro skyline. Somebody has got to do that dirty and dangerous metal recycling job, it's a needed industry...too bad they gotta do it right downtown in Music City.

Clean-up at that site will take years? Mother Nature can take a hit, but at that site, she may never recover from the blow.

By: yogiman on 3/26/12 at 6:37

If their end results looked beautiful, they would be welcome, but because they a are ugly, they aren't welcome any longer.

Isn't Nashville getting enough tax money out of that company so they want them to 'move out of town'?

PCS has always been an interesting dilemma for the city. Aesthetically, it's awful. It literally looks like a dump is perched right next to the city. And, since it's right by the interstate, it's on view for all travelers to see.

On the other hand, it's a private business. The government has been trying to "persuade" them for years that there are other options available, but they're not budging. Should they strong-arm them into compliance?

I would take the city more seriously if they realized that there is more to Davidson County than the city. Maybe they should focus their energy on revitalizing Antioch or other areas (cough...Nolensville road corridor) that are completely going to Hell.

By: Rasputin72 on 3/26/12 at 6:49

By all means, it is an eyesore. Yet when I think of an eyesore I think of the housing projects and the inhabitants that live there. Even more so I think of how many of my federal tax dollars go to subsidize these creatures and the projects themselves.

By: Loner on 3/26/12 at 7:20

The Rasp begins his excoriation of the poor and disadvantaged early on a Monday morning: Yet when I think of an eyesore I think of the housing projects and the inhabitants that live there. Even more so I think of how many of my federal tax dollars go to subsidize these creatures and the projects themselves.

I dunno, but when somebody admits that they think of an entire class of "creatures", (human beings) as "eyesores", I think it's safe to assume that that person is an arrogant elitist. Not all arrogant elitists are racists, but nearly all racists are arrogant elitists. Just sayin'...

By: gdiafante on 3/26/12 at 7:24

Loner, take all of Rasputin's posts with a grain of salt. It's just his schtick. He's harmless.

By: Loner on 3/26/12 at 8:04

Hey, Rasp...are you doing schtick? Pulling our legs? Yankin' our chains?

Since I have not seen any evidence that would indicate that Rasputin is actually a liberal and that he is simply mocking out poor-loathing right-wing knuckle-heads, I assumed he was expressing his honest opinions.

So, is it schtick or is it sick?

Come clean, Rasp.....

By: Kosh III on 3/26/12 at 8:11

It's a sick schtick.

By: parnell3rd on 3/26/12 at 8:14

Rasp is correct. At least PCS pays taxes. Like 99% of the opinions here need to be taken with a grain of salt and a shot of tequilla! Rimshot!!!

By: Kosh III on 3/26/12 at 8:14

I agree with what ask said on the main story: let private businesses handle it.

Can't these free enterprise capitalist creatures at PSC or the Sounds do stuff without taking welfare checks from the hardworking and usually underpaid taxpayers?
Why should I subsidize these welfare denizens? No more capitalist creatures!

By: Loner on 3/26/12 at 8:15

LOL, true dat, Kosh...a slick sick schtick....it's seamless.

By: Kosh III on 3/26/12 at 8:16

I'm not a 1%er. I PAY taxes: federal state and local; and it's a bigger chunk of my total income than the percentage paid by Exxon, GE or Romney.

By: Loner on 3/26/12 at 8:32

Why would the taxpayers be responsible for clean-up costs? The place is profitable and has been for decades, right? Would there be more of those sweetheart tax exemptions for PCS at a new location? Who needs or deserves having an outfit like that move into their community? How could PCS get a permit to operate in a new location...I mean, who would OK such a deal?

By: Loner on 3/26/12 at 8:33

PCS, or PSC?

By: dargent7 on 3/26/12 at 8:40

"A scrap metal plant..." You mean that Ghost Night Riders art sculpture?
Is ivy growing on the thing now?
Yes, it is an eyesore.

By: gdiafante on 3/26/12 at 8:46

In essence, Loner, the city would pay PCS to relocate, i.e. the cleanup. That's always been on the table even though, if you ask a politician, it's not.

By: govskeptic on 3/26/12 at 9:16

One can expect the EPA to come up with a clean up solution that will
cost 5 times the amount our "experts" would estimate the cost to be.
It may well qualify for an environmental waste site now. It so, close it
and allow some southern greenery to cover it over. That might be a
"Green" project to the Dept of Energy would fund 100%!

Up for Debate: Looking at a 'black eye'

Do you see the scrap metal plant along the Cumberland River as an eyesore or just part of the city? Should it be a priority to relocate it?

Gotta hand it to the NCP staff, a black eye is a sore eye.

Is "hideous wart" a more apt analogy?

Black eyes are the result of sudden trauma and they usually go away after a while.

Hideous warts are long-term, unwanted, disfiguring growths....they do not usually go away on their own...they have to be burned-off, down to the root....a pain-killer is usually needed....good luck!

By: Loner on 3/26/12 at 9:27

When Govskeptic uses sarcasm, we can easily recognize it...the Rasp, on the other hand, is a bit of a cipher.....with the Rasp, the sick schtick is slick as a licked brick and just as thick.

By: yogiman on 3/26/12 at 9:28

Loner,

I don't know what kind of people you have living in your housing projects, but down here when I drive though one of those compounds and see young people in the housing and late model expensive cars parked in from our their duplex kind of makes me wonder: Are they just visiting those people?

Then I find out; visiting?, hell no, they live there.

By: yogiman on 3/26/12 at 9:33

You don't need to burn a wart off, Loner. Just tie it's base tight with thread and it will rot out and fall off.

Try it, it won't hurt.

By: Loner on 3/26/12 at 9:39

Yogi, I tried to explain it to you on Friday....when Barack Hussein Obama goes full-commie.....guys like me will get the good jobs and guys like you will go to the re-education camps.....until you get your mind right...housing compounds for the well-dressed poor, in late model cars, are essential to the economy, to keep the money in circulation....we need "those people"....who else would pay $150 for a pair of sneakers, for example....take away the earned income credit and the other incentives to remain "poor" and the system would collapse.

Yogi, as long as you stay off the usurper thing, we can carry on a dialogue...otherwise I'll tune you out as will most of the others.

By: Loner on 3/26/12 at 9:44

Thanks for the home remedy for warts, Yogi....kind of like giving the wart the old garrote treatment?

By: slacker on 3/26/12 at 9:57

Metro. could play the environmental card. All that metal.. and what have ya, leaching into the mighty Cumberland, is contaminating our precious bodily fluids.

By: slacker on 3/26/12 at 10:05

Yogi.. don't wear your necktie to tight.

By: Loner on 3/26/12 at 10:05

Another much-maligned underclass, who are routinely scorned and held in contempt, are the American cigarette smokers. Without these smokers, billions in tax revenues would go up in smoke...as would the "Tobacco Settlement" monies....monies that all fifty states rely upon to balance their bloated budgets....the next time you see a smoker, thank them for their sacrifice.

I do not smoke Tobacco...if I did, I would certainly grow my own...I understand that it's easier to do than the Cigarette Manufacturers claim...after all. they grow it in Canada & Turkey....it's gotta be fairly hardy....the fuzz are looking for Cannabis, not Tobacco, grow it!

Note to self.. tie thread around girlfriends warts.

By: slacker on 3/26/12 at 10:13

Loner, are you using the ''Volcano Vaporizer?''

By: yogiman on 3/26/12 at 10:16

I've got news for you, Loner. Obama is already a "full-commie". He was long before he took that office. It's hard for me to understand why you "intelligent" people on this site can't read that fake birth certificate and see what a crook he is.

The only thing I can see on it is; you must be communist buddies with him.

And as for me, I'm going to fight my fight until November 6. If he doesn't get to pull a martial law takeover off, we will have an election and he will be put out of office.

By: slacker on 3/26/12 at 10:20

Yogi.. you gotta let it go. Go down to the senior citizens center, and play some Rook.

By: gdiafante on 3/26/12 at 10:21

And as for me, I'm going to fight my fight until November 6. If he doesn't get to pull a martial law takeover off, we will have an election and he will be put out of office.

This reminds me, support your local mental health institution.

By: Loner on 3/26/12 at 10:22

Do we need a modern version of "Dr. Strangelove"? Not a remake, but along the lines of.

Maybe a troubled loner, a hi-tech hacker geek, commandeers some state of the art military drones. Dubbed by the media as, "Lone Drone", the nut-job attacks Mecca, during the high holy day? Or he attacks Israel's nuclear arsenal at Dimona? Maybe he hits Washington, DC , Jerusalem and/or NYC?

Yeah, a "lone wolf" terrorist working his own private agenda? By remote control of stolen, lethal, stealthy, military drones..."Lone Drone" just has a natural ring to it...IMHO.

Now, if we can make that into a tragi-comedy, we'll have a hit.

By: Loner on 3/26/12 at 10:30

I don't care for the vaporizers, Slack...you're inhaling water vapor with a few volatiles...when it comes to the buzz, you gotta burn it to earn it....others disagree.

Well, I taunted the troll and he usurped on us...my bad...activate Ignore Troll function, Scotty!

Amen, Gd....Soetero Syndrome strikes one in ten....it's an epidemic.

By: yogiman on 3/26/12 at 10:32

Sorry, slacker,

As my dad used to tell me: Boy, you've got a hard head and stinking a$$. Well, I've kept that hard head and stinking a$$ in use for the past 75 years, and I try to keep my a$$ from stinking too much.

I'm going to continue using my hard head in my effort to keep you Obama loving fans aware of what he is, and the fact that piece of paper he's calling his birth certificate is such an obvious fake.

It's hard to understand you "educated" people not being able to see it as a fake and he as a usurper.

By: Loner on 3/26/12 at 10:34

Scored some bomb weed recently...instead of making IED's...bombs... to kill our soldiers...we should contract with the Afghanis to grow the bomb weed....if I ran for POTUS, that would be in my platform....time for the pipe of peace....not the pipeline.

By: Loner on 3/26/12 at 10:40

Ignore Troll feature is down for repairs.....could not ignore this: As my dad used to tell me: Boy, you've got a hard head and stinking a$$. Well, I've kept that hard head and stinking a$$ in use for the past 75 years, and I try to keep my a$$ from stinking too much.

Daddy must have rammed the kid's head up his a$$ good and tight...it's still stuck in there....his anal sphincter has fused with his lower neck muscles...he couldn't pull it out if he wanted to....it's actually a good thing that he likes his head where it is...it's not nice to taunt folks like that...best to look away, IMO.

By: gdiafante on 3/26/12 at 10:40

I imagine it's hard for yogi to understand most rational thoughts. Let's just start refering to him as Abby Normal.

Wow, one has to wonder how it is that Rasp and Ben can fit up there on that ivory tower without knocking each other off just over the property rights. Guess it's sort of like angels on the head of a pin, huh?

Brrrrk...it's Rasp's schtick....or so they tell me....and he ain't sayin"....but with Ben Dover, it's let's extreme, but more genuine, IMO.

Ben...Rasp...wherefore art thee?

By: Loner on 3/26/12 at 10:55

s/h/b "it's less extreme", not "it's let's extreme"....reefer madness kicking in....better make another latte....doggone it, with my automatic Spell-checker, once the red squiggly lines are removed, a false sense of security sets in...homophone errors, grammatical errors, wrong word etc. are not recognized by the software....no substitute for a good proofread.

By: yogiman on 3/26/12 at 11:19

It isn't hard to understand rational thoughts, gdiafante, but it is impossible for a rational thinking person to understand your irrational thoughts, especially when they're about the man sitting in the Oval Office of this nation.

With such a fake birth certificate, what is your rational thoughts in accepting him?

How about using your intelligence, brrrrk, and listen to Lt. Gen. William Boykin on Daily Caller. Gen Boykin in retired from the Army. You might learn something about today's situation. Just go to dailycaller.com and check Gen Boykin out.

You don't seem to have the ability to learn it anywhere else.

Loner,

What did your man Barry mean when he told the Russian President at a meeting in South Korea to pass the message on to Russia's incoming President Putin he needed more time when he said: "after my last election I have more flexibility"? Any idea what he's gonna flexate?

By: gdiafante on 3/26/12 at 1:19

Yeah, Boykin's a bigtime fundamentalist...shooting Muslims for Jesus...can I get an amen, bruthah?

God bless Amurka...
