Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at 11:35pm

What do you think about Metro Finance Director Rich Riebeling's request of department heads to explore the impact of 2 percent budget cuts? What do you think of potential impact Metro pensions, property taxes?

Don't fret Riebeling, you can make up the difference with all those $25 chicken permits Metro is going to sell! LOL
Hope he doesn't hold his breath!

Having chickens in your backyard in Davidson County is insane.
They're not like quiet rabbits, a cat or two, even a dog. They are not cute, furry, or pets.
All they do is "cluck" and peck the shit out of your lawn.
Eggs are the cheapest form of protein available at the store.
0.99cents a dozen at Save-A-Lot, Aldis, Krogers.
I'll defer to "yogi", the resident board member who's an expert on Obama's geneology and family tree as well as Animal Husbandry, as to whether a rooster is needed to make the hen produce and lay eggs.
If so, the roosters will crow and wake the neighbors at 3:30am, 7 days a week.
I guess we'll all save money on alarm clocks.

A 2% cut does not seem a like a lot, until you have to live on it.

As for the chicken go, it will be more food for the coyotes.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/18/12 at 6:58

Life is short, so don’t waste it on nothing.

By: bfra on 1/18/12 at 6:59

Stray dogs will have more food with the "chicken act", also!

By: Captain Nemo on 1/18/12 at 7:03

My cat has been seen stalking Wild Turkeys, (the two legged kind) but has yet been successful at bring one down. lol

By: bfra on 1/18/12 at 7:04

The majority that get chickens, will Not get a permit, unless forced. They will NOT get a bldg. permit for whatever unsightly leanto to they throw together. If they want "chicken" for dinner, they WILL slay the least egg producer they have, right there in their own yard. Codes are not enforced now, so the nitwits that voted "for" this, just threw a few more on the pile that will NOT be enforced, either.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/18/12 at 7:13

I remember as a kid watching my grandmother killing chicken for supper. She would lay them on the ground and… (This is too graphic to print). They would then run around headless. We thought it was funny to watch.

By: dargent7 on 1/18/12 at 7:26

I stalk "Wild Turkey" myself. Comes in a neat bottle.

By: dargent7 on 1/18/12 at 7:30

OFF Topic: Romney is pigeon holed about his wealth and tax returns that Newton "Fatso" G-man challenged him to reveal.
He hemmed and hawed about paying 15% on his Capital Gains/ Investments and "modest" speaking fees.
Turns out the lying Mormon makes $375,000 a year on his speaking fees, alone.
His net worth is $250. million. The dick thinks he can hide the fact.
And wants to be President?

By: Loner on 1/18/12 at 7:38

Budget cuts on one hand and a new Sounds Stadium in the other. And proposed additional taxpayer subsidies for the Predators. More bread for the circus?

The choice is clear...more jock strap worship, or a sound fiscal foundation....Mayor Dean has chosen subsidized pro-sports...ergo, the sports-minded mayor has to go...he is an out-of-touch spendthrift.

By: Loner on 1/18/12 at 7:41

Realistically, it does not matter what we think about the way Metro spends taxpayer monies....they ask for "input", to make it look good, then they do whatever they please. This problem is pervasive across the nation, not just in Music City...er, Jock-Strap City.

By: Loner on 1/18/12 at 7:43

Oh yeah...Good Morning, Nashville!

By: Loner on 1/18/12 at 8:17

"Budget Kickoff"? Even the Nashville City paper cannot resist using sports metaphors in its headlines...Music City really has become "Jock-Strap City".....again, utterly ridiculous.

Can we quickly change the topic...this one is just too shallow for a group of intellectuals like this august group of renowned commentators...and common taters.

Lots of stuff in the news...shall we veer off-course...like the Costa Concordia did?

Chicken raising is a good idea, though I won't do it as I hardly eat any eggs.

As to "unsightly leanto to they throw together," I think most will opt to just buy a coop such as these, though this place is overpriced in comparison to it's competitors.

http://www.cleanairgardening.com/chicken-coops.html

Do ANY of those look unsightly?

Funny how most of the opposing Councillors were the "small government" conservatives.

By: yogiman on 1/18/12 at 8:45

No, dargent7,

A rooster isn't need to produce eggs. They are needed to produce more chickens. You know, like men a need to produce more people, especially Obama lovers like yourself. They need to expel a large amount of sperm.

By: Kosh III on 1/18/12 at 8:50

As to the budget, I note that no raise of any kind is offered again; it's been years since the rank and file who do the real work, got anything. They are going to take a CUT as they will have to pay more for "benefits" and get less "benefits."
Of course the top tier gets hefty raises and we shell out millions in welfare for the corporate elite.

By: yogiman on 1/18/12 at 8:51

Okay, dargent7,

I gave you an answer on the productive chickens, now can you give me an answer on your ignorant comment about Mitt Romney showing his income and welfare. My question: Why should Mitt Romeny have to show his income and welfare to the public and Barack Obama doesn't even have to show who he is? Like: No birth certificate; no school papers; no passports. Am I missing anything?

By: yogiman on 1/18/12 at 8:57

Obama's exposure #13

Through Obama care, Obama is destroying the greatest healthcare system in the world, replacing it with a dramatically inferior, socialized system that increases our tax dollars and limits health care choice.

And the fact that Congress refused to accept it and kept the one they set for themselves personally, even though they said it was great, doesn't that tell you it aint good for the citizens?

By: yogiman on 1/18/12 at 9:07

Oh, I forgot it, dargent7, let me also throw in Obama's income in his youth. Where did he get the money to take a vacation into Pakistan in his 20s. Where did he get the money to attend colleges like Harvard and Columbia; who weren't cheep?

Hell, where did he even get the income to spend millions hiding his identity?

Proverbs 14:7-9
Leave the presence of a fool, for there you do not meet words of knowledge. The wisdom of the prudent is to discern his way, but the folly of fools is deceiving. Fools mock at the guilt offering, but the upright enjoy acceptance.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/18/12 at 9:20

d7-

That is why I said two legged Wild Turkey.lol

By: Captain Nemo on 1/18/12 at 9:25

Loner says,” Jock-strap religion’ I like that idea.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/18/12 at 9:29

Romney says he will show his tax returns this spring. However by that time he will be the nominee.

By: yogiman on 1/18/12 at 9:51

Loner,

There seems to be a vast difference between the Metro government and the national government.

The Metro government takes your money and asks... then does. The federal government doesn't even bother to ask, they just take you money and do, mostly with doo doo in their pockets.

By: yogiman on 1/18/12 at 9:53

By the way, Loner, to help in your southern education, doo doo is crap said politely.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/18/12 at 10:03

God, grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway, The good fortune to run into the ones I do, And the eyesight to tell the difference.

Title: 10 reasons the U.S. is no longer the land of the free
By Jonathan Turley, Published: January 13

Interesting reading and the comments are still coming in.

But here, at my favorite online comment board, it's chickens, doo-doo and troll droppings.

Nouthin' wrong with discussing chickens and doo-doo...but the troll droppings are like a minefield on this site....I step over them...if we ignore the troll, he might go elsewhere for his trolling yah-yahs.

Can we take it up a notch?

From yesterday..."Misogyninary guy walks into a gay piano bar...."

"..and orders a Bloody Mary"?

Ben Dover, are you out there, come in, please.

By: BigPapa on 1/18/12 at 10:37

I posted this under the other article about Metro's budget:

So Metro departments get another cut (i.e. cut more jobs) while the city sends $7M in cash to the Preds, upgrades LP Field, and shops around for a new minor league ball park. (Note each one of those is a private business owned by millionaires and billionaires.)

Priorities people, priorities...

By: BigPapa on 1/18/12 at 10:49

BTW
I think the CP is much better when dealing with local issues. The national stuff is very boring, it's all either Rep or Dem... everybody already knows the other person's position before any thing is said.

By: Loner on 1/18/12 at 10:51

Papa, I agree with your 9:37 post.

I think global, act local.

Given Romney's insensitivity to the financial plight of others, I now want to see his warranty so we know for sure whether or not he was manufactured in the United States.

By: BenDover on 1/18/12 at 11:01

So... what is the misogyninary position?

By: Loner on 1/18/12 at 11:06

To find out how your US Rep voted on the 2012 NDAA, go here:

http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2011/roll932.xml

My Rep, a M. Hochul, is a Democrat and supposed "liberal"...she voted for the War Super Lobby (DIE) crafted bill....Defense, Israel and Energy all had a hand in crafting this draconian law...we are now a faith-based republic...we have faith in the innate goodness of our elected officials, the military, the special interests and the media....faith that they will not abuse these new and sweeping powers.

Obama could have stood his ground on New Year's Eve...instead, he caved and signed the NDAA. He whined, but signed.....git a rope!

By: BenDover on 1/18/12 at 11:07

Obama's been stoking the envy and covetousness fires for the last year or so expecting a run against Romney. If Newt pulls off SC their whole strategy labeling the Repubs as Uncle Pennybags is shot. Since it's the Dems in the back pocket of Wall Street anyway that would be justice I guess; but who knows what will come of it if the Newt resurges.

Well for someone like Santorum I'd say standing, sitting, laying on the ground.... well, just about any position for him involves an element of misogyny

By: yogiman on 1/18/12 at 11:11

Maybe we can get him to swap views with Barry, brrrrk. Would you recommend it to him?

By: brrrrk on 1/18/12 at 11:11

I heard that Perry said that if elected President, the first military action he would take would be to redeploy troops in Gettysburg......

Hey, Ben!

The misogynary position is an old BDSM favorite....don't play dumb with me, Benjamin Dover....you ain't smart enough....NYUK...NYUK...NYUK. (I loved the 3-stooges, now call me "anti-Semitic.) Hey Moe!

Ben, I bitched when Bush-Cheney made autocratic moves and I'm bitching when the Nobel Prince of Peace does the same thing...I'm trying to be consistent.

You excused Bush-Cheney's power grabs as exigencies of the holy war...are you backing Obama's power grab with the same rhetoric, or what?

By: Captain Nemo on 1/18/12 at 11:16

That's funny stuff, Brrrrk and Nemo.

For those of you who weren't old enough to know what you was looking at in 1948, you'll find a little education on what America used to be like in the by going to the '1948 cartoon' on google.

I always thought Cheney's doctrine of Unitary Authority for the president was out of line Loner. I had it in the back of my mind that the media may give us a commie or something for president and we'd be screwed. Obama's so convinced that his attitudes of state redistribution of wealth are righteous he doesn't even consider it anymore and is willing to use the full authority of the executive branch to further that motive against the will of the country and is willing to subjugate the ignorant country to his will to accomplish it.

As for war stuff, that's simple self interest. He wants the autocratic authority to clusterbomb the f*ck anyone that distracts him (or the country at large) from his domestic social agenda of transforming this society as we know it.

Sniffing glue with Bill Ayres all those years has had its consequences.
