Up for Debate: Moving forward with security

Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at 12:07am

As has happened in the past following other attempts or acts of terrorism, what changes do you think might come about, or should come about, following the Boston Marathon bombings?

A topic that has no practical limits of suggestions is absolutely perfect for the intellectual buffoon Captain Nemo.

By: Loner on 4/17/13 at 5:45

Good morning, Nashville.

What changes do you think might come about, or should come about, following the Boston Marathon bombings?

Not enough is known at this time to answer that question adequately. One thing is for sure, from now on, every trash can will be monitored, if there are any trash cans along the marathon route at all....without trash cans, the clean-up committees will have their work cut out for them.

Marathons will become more and more expensive to stage and support, as security concerns will ramp up the costs considerably...some established marathons may go defunct....new marathons will not be forthcoming.....this bombing will have a chilling effect on marathons in general.

By: Loner on 4/17/13 at 5:51

Rasp, as a known buffoon, you are in no position to call anyone a "buffoon"....your flawed impersonation of a wealthy tycoon fools nobody here....you are indeed a fool, capable of fooling only yourself....so, please cool it with the personal attacks.....thanks.

By: bfra on 4/17/13 at 5:55

Thanks Loner - Msg. for Raspy, very well stated & very true.

By: Loner on 4/17/13 at 6:01

Once terrorists discovered that hijacking an airliner was both easy and effective, they used that tactic repeatedly. The tactic became an epidemic.

Now that the efficacy and effectiveness of terrorizing a marathon race has been clearly demonstrated, I expect that we will see more of this....lots of bang for the buck....the cops say that the bombs used probably cost under $100 to make....from a terrorist's viewpoint, that's an irresistible bargain.

By: Loner on 4/17/13 at 6:03

...and good morning to you, Bfra. I do not enjoy putting folks down; but when they initiate personal attacks, I feel compelled to step up and tell it like it is.

By: Captain Nemo on 4/17/13 at 6:09

I would think if this person or persons thinks that they have gotten away with murder, they would try it again. Who ever the deranged individuals are, they will be around to inflict more damage to revenge whatever their reason maybe.

Then there are always copycats to any headline events like this.

By: Loner on 4/17/13 at 6:14

Although there are some clues, physical evidence, the investigation may not end in the capture of the culprit(s), because the components of the bomb were readily available and cheap...not easily traceable....and because there were tens of thousands of people moving about in the area, it will be very difficult to locate the bomber in surveillance footage....the A-hole(s) may get away with murder....and they may have inspired other A-holes to emulate their wickedness.

By: Loner on 4/17/13 at 6:24

....and good morning, Captain....you are right, if not apprehended, the bomber(s) might try it again at some other event.

This could have a negative effect on the bread & circus aspect of American culture....there will be a ripple effect across the fruited plain...this could possibly affect attendance at major US sporting events....and promoters now have new costs and concerns to deal with ....the bomber got maximum bang for his buck.

Raspy old boy you never did learn how to master the art of lying. It is not Palm Beach that you live in, it is WEST PALM BEACH.

By: Rasputin72 on 4/8/13 at 11:44

This year I am extending my stay in Palm Beach until the first May. I have suggested to this forum that the only practical idea that would save this Republic might very well be to deny voting privileges to anyone 25 to 65 years of age who do not pay any federal income taxes.

By: BenDover on 4/17/13 at 6:36

The pictures I saw showed the bomb beside the trash can or mailbox.

By: Captain Nemo on 4/17/13 at 6:36

Good morning Loner and bfra.

This event will not stop me from going to event or any other place. I went to the movie house just after the Batman murders and I was flying cross country after 9/11.

The way I look at it, I am terminal anyway. No time or name for my exit yet. So I live life now.

By: Loner on 4/17/13 at 6:41

Since the Boston Marathon took place on Patriot's Day, the bombing could have been politically motivated...there have been demonstrations on Patriots Day in the past...check out this disturbing snippet:

Since the late 1960s, Patriots’ Day is celebrated in Massachusetts on the third Monday in April, which this year was on April 15, coinciding with tax day, another important day for antigovernment groups. And while the choice of weapon might make authorities focus on leaderless jihadist groups, it’s worth noting that Inspire magazine’s recipe for pressure-cooker bombs was promoted by the white-supremacist website Stormfront.

Of course, the bomber may have had other motives...possibly a disgruntled person who had a former relationship with the event....who knows?

The fact that no credible claims of responsibility are coming out is also troubling and somewhat new....no manifestos are being sent to the press....that adds to the terror.

By: yogiman on 4/17/13 at 6:43

Interesting, Loner.

You call Rasputin 72 a buffoon, so tell me, what evidence do you have to prove your claim? Do you know the person personally? Do you know his wealth, personally? I'd like to know, personally, where you got his personal information.

By: Loner on 4/17/13 at 6:47

...and good morning, Ben Dover. Somebody got a picture of the bomb(s) before it went off? I read that the bombs were placed inside trash receptacles. Not a whole lot of difference, I suppose...the effect was lethal and devastating.

By: Rasputin72 on 4/17/13 at 6:48

LONER......I can appreciate your apprehensive approach to people of a different mindset and financial position. One must have at least some dialog with other "cultures" before fully having a comfort level. Had I not been exposed to people like you as a child I couldnever have understood why you are so bitter about your failings in life.

How would someone making 46,000 dollars a year and thinking himself comfortable understand what "wealth" is.

As a caveat to your post, I would add "Never the twain shall meet."

I think that describes the two different worlds in which we live.

I would be in depression if I lived like you. You of course do not have enough financial experience to understand what cam be bought other than groceries and a house payment. and utilities. You are bright enough however to understand that it something to be envious of and to find those that have it dispicable.

By: Loner on 4/17/13 at 6:49

...go back to bed, Yogi. This is grown-up talk....over your head little fella.

By: Loner on 4/17/13 at 6:52

...good morning, Rasp. You have no idea who I am, do you?

By: Loner on 4/17/13 at 6:54

Rasp...can you comment on the topic of the day, or is this class envy schtick all you have to offer?

By: Rasputin72 on 4/17/13 at 6:56

No, I do not know who you are. I will make one guess out of the blue however. You are the great great grandson of a Pony Express rider?

By: Captain Nemo on 4/17/13 at 7:03

Loner, Raspy has no idea who he his, let alone who you are. LOL

Tell us some more lies old boy.

By: Jughead on 4/17/13 at 7:04

Balls.

By: Loner on 4/17/13 at 7:04

If Rasputin had the wealth and smarts that he claims to possess, one would think that a man of his wealth and taste would use a state-of-the-art computer when posting online; something with a Spellchecker at the very least.

As we can see from Rasp's 7:48 post, he does not have a Spellchecker function on his machine....a Spellchecker would have caught these two errors: "couldnever" and "dispicable".

Rasp, are you posting from a public library or from the Open Door Mission? Looks like you are using second-hand, obsolete equipment....for a man who prides himself on image, yours sucks.

By: Jughead on 4/17/13 at 7:05

Nimrod: Since you are "terminal", why don't you make an early exit and do the world some good?

By: Captain Nemo on 4/17/13 at 7:08

By: Rasputin72 on 4/17/13 at 7:48

You are bright enough however to understand that it something to be envious of and to find those that have it dispicable.

This comes from a man (and I use that word man incorrectly) that has been in a state of depression and denial all his life.

By: Loner on 4/17/13 at 7:08

That's a good guess, Rasp...I am the great great grandson of a union soldier who served with honor and distinction....a member of the NY 8th Heavy Artillery Battalion.....to me, that's right up there with the Pony Express Riders.

By: Loner on 4/17/13 at 7:11

Moe & Curly checked in early...Larry checked in @ 8:04...the 3-Stooges are here for our slap-stick enjoyment....hey Moe!

By: Rasputin72 on 4/17/13 at 7:11

LONER..........I do not use spell checker because I am 100% comfortable with my vocabulary and ability to spell.

Now If I were to grade myself on my ability to use this little cell phone keyboard I would give myself a D. A poor grade one notch above the F that goes to NEMO.

By: Captain Nemo on 4/17/13 at 7:12

Loner Raspy’s brain wiring goes berserk when he is caught in a lie and he can’t pull off a con.

By: Rasputin72 on 4/17/13 at 7:13

LONER..........I laud you on your pedigree.

By: yogiman on 4/17/13 at 7:15

Rasputin72,

I must say: Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. And wealth is also in the eyes of the beholder. Most people are comfortable with simply enough money to pay their bills. Not everyone has a great desire to "see the world".

Maybe I was lucky in see as much of the world as I did when in service. But today? I'm not interested in even going to town unless I need something for my home. So it doesn't take much money to make me feel "well off".

By: Loner on 4/17/13 at 7:16

Rasp, you are using a cell-phone with its tiny keyboard to post here and it does not have a Spellchecker function...or you disabled it, having supreme confidence in your spelling skills and your extensive vocabulary, is that your story? Please clarify...did you disable the Spellchecker, or did it not come with the phone? Get your story straight.

By: Rasputin72 on 4/17/13 at 7:18

Yogiman...........I commend you on your approach to the pursuit of happiness.

Admirable indeed!

By: yogiman on 4/17/13 at 7:19

Loner,

I agree, a spell checker is good to have, but how does it work when you have a word spelled correctly with a different definition from what you intended?

If you feel like taking the time to edit your posting, why even use the spell checker?

By: Loner on 4/17/13 at 7:19

Rasp resorts to flattery:LONER..........I laud you on your pedigree.

Of course, flattery will get you everywhere with the lone one.

By: Rasputin72 on 4/17/13 at 7:22

LONER.......If there is a spellchecker on this phone it is unbeknowest to me.

I thought I made it clear to the highly pedigreed grandson of a Union soldier that I do not use a spellchecker.

Do you use direct deposit for your office pension?

By: Loner on 4/17/13 at 7:22

Rasp goes with the charm offensive...pumping sunshine up Yogi's pant-leg too.

Yogi, a Spellchecker will not catch missing words or wrong words....they are useful, but can give the writer a false sense of security...there is no substitute for a good proof read.

By: yogiman on 4/17/13 at 7:23

Correct me if I'm wrong, Loner, but I understand Rasputin72 is using a little "hand held" computer which would make it normal to not post a sentence correctly constantly.

I know I make more errors when using my laptop unit than my desk unit. Why? Because the monitor is big enough to see better which you will begin to understand as you age.

By: Captain Nemo on 4/17/13 at 7:27

Loner-

Raspy is 100% comfortable with my vocabulary and ability to spell. Just check out this post when he has been caught in a lie. I think he may have confused my life for his in this tidbit of rant.

By: Rasputin72 on 4/10/13 at 4:39

Flying over to Augusta with friends this morning a discussion came up about whether or not lying was a cornerstone of undetclass culture. (My friends are aware that I am fascinated (with with) culture. I had never thought about it (iuntil) my friends (brpught) it up whether lying is part of the culture (itzelf) or whether lying is an (indovidual) trait.

I left it with the idea that Captain Nemo more closely is identified with the core values of underclass culture . I am (gping) to ask Nemo if he has ever had a creative (t hought) in his life.

I think the answer (e) gives will affirm or dispel. (any) notion we have. (as to.) what is (indovidual) behavior and what is core underclass behavior.

The (ppssible fflaw) would be "Does Nemo fit the mold of core underclass?

As I (tpld) my friends on the plane, trust me!? This fellow has been a disappointment and travesty to every teacher in his (logtr)

Nemo, before the cocktails this evening take away our interest in the subject give us (your.) answer?

By: Loner on 4/17/13 at 7:29

I see...Rasp does not know if his phone has a Spellchecker or not...and he doesn't care...got it.

But then the Rasp gets a bit too personal with this: "Do you use direct deposit for your office pension?"

If you mean my Post Office pension, I'm afraid that's classified information....and the money that I get from Barrack Hussein Obama, for acting as a secret agent for the coming Islamo-Communist revolution, is strictly top secret....don't even ask...I know nothing.

By: Captain Nemo on 4/17/13 at 7:31

Two of the stooges yogi and Raspy, tries to pump up therir(sic) self ateam (sic)

By: Jughead on 4/17/13 at 7:33

Lord, you liberals are pathetic---do you have nothing better to do than sit here all day writing 100-word incomprehensible diatribes?

Oh--I forgot--you get you food and health care from the gov't and do not have jobs. My bad.

Did I mention that I hate liberals?

By: Loner on 4/17/13 at 7:33

...and the third stooge pumps up his "balls".

By: Captain Nemo on 4/17/13 at 7:34

Well I sure won’t tell them about your top secrat(sic) job Loner

By: Captain Nemo on 4/17/13 at 7:35

By: Rasputin72 on 4/17/13 at 8:22
LONER.......If there is a spellchecker on this phone it is unbeknowest to me.

Translation;

Doh!!!

By: Loner on 4/17/13 at 7:37

We have better things to do, Jug, but being lazy, fat and dumb we just don't do them.

Try slothfulness; it's been given a bad name over the millennia...and that's a real tragedy.

You see, necessity may be the mother of invention, but laziness is its illegitimate father.

If only Hitler had been lazy....

By: Captain Nemo on 4/17/13 at 7:38

Loner, I got where I just skip the third turs(sic) post. It is usually to minor to bother wit.

By: yogiman on 4/17/13 at 7:38

One more little point, Loner, then I have to "unwantingly" go to town and get something for my home. One of my "slop jars" is using too much water on the crap in it.

But my point it: You remark to Rasputin72 about his "inefficiency" in his spelling. OK< but how about ridiculing your fellow posters who constantly misspell words and rarely us a comma, or any other correct sentencing element?

With your buddy dumba$$ (Captain Nemo), have you ever understood what he was posting on your first reading?

But he isn't alone.

By: Loner on 4/17/13 at 7:41

If Hitler and the Nazis had been lazy, instead of ambitious, the Holocaust might never have happened.

By: Captain Nemo on 4/17/13 at 7:41

Where did Raspy disapper(sic) to? He always seem to be late for golf, bridge or sucking cocktails every time he get caught in one of his lies,(sic)
