Up for Debate: NHL locks out

Monday, September 17, 2012 at 1:44am

How do you feel about the NHL lockout that started Saturday night? How much does it concern you, even if it could mean no hockey this season? As fans, how do you feel when major sports leagues hold lockouts while they negotiate over millions of dollars?

Not on topic, but I think everyone on the board should read this:
By: yogiman on 9/16/12 at 9:54

By the way Mike, did you read the comment Barry made about being born to a single mother? If he was born in Kenya as he advertised for 16 years, is he a Kenyan or American based on his single mother's citizenship? I'm not familiar with those laws back then.

“I get it. I know what it’s like,” Obama said in the televised speech. “My father left my family when I was 2 years old, and I was raised by a single mom who had to work and who struggled at times to pay the bills and wasn’t always able to give us the things that other kids had.”

NUT JOBS don't understand the difference between "raised by" & "born to"!

By: dargent7 on 9/17/12 at 4:54

Who cares about hockey?
It's football season and yesterday's games were great.
The Titans really sucked, but I enjoyed all the photos of San Diego's skyline.
Hope everyone's happy that "CJ" got his $53. million contract.
Another 10+ carries and about 10 total yds. He won't hit 1,000 yds. this season.

By: dargent7 on 9/17/12 at 5:00

bfra: Most of us have spent 3 years+ trying to communicate with "yogi".
He's a Birther and nuttier than Palin and Bachmann put together.
A complete waste of energy and time.

By: gdiafante on 9/17/12 at 5:07

I care about hockey. And I can even multitask and follow football And hockey during the fall...in fact, I've been known to keep up with football, hockey, and baseball playoffs at the same time.

Weird, huh?

By: gdiafante on 9/17/12 at 5:10

bfra, yogi's not familiar with a lot of things, sanity being one.

By: gdiafante on 9/17/12 at 5:27

As far as the Titans, I said this on their thread, but all the "experts" seem to have agreed in preseason that the Titans would start either 1-4 or 0-4 due to the brutal schedule. So why is everyone surprised? Does anyone really think that the Titans are better than the Pats and Chargers?

C'mon, man.

And I owe Gov an apology...I thought he was crazy when he alluded to the fact that the Titans were one, if not the worst team in the league...I said that Miami was worse...well Miami won yesterday and looked pretty good doing it...I'd say Tannehill is way better than Locker...touche, gov.

By: bfra on 9/17/12 at 5:29

I am for hockey here, mainly because a lot of people will lose a lot of money without the games.

gdiafante - I just wanted to be sure everyone saw what links the old man will go. Just plain lie and change the words to do so. That is a sorry piece of crud!

By: bfra on 9/17/12 at 5:39

d7 - Also agree with you!

By: yogiman on 9/17/12 at 5:39

Tell me bfra, and you, too, gdiafante,

If you two are as smart as you think you are, who is the man going by the name Barack Obama? If he was born to a single mother as he said, where did he get the name Barack Obama? Just who is he?

I'm sure you two know. Please inform me so I'll know too.

By: gdiafante on 9/17/12 at 5:41

Yawn...It's too early in the morning to deal with a special needs student...

By: bfra on 9/17/12 at 5:43

Or liars that can't read!

By: yogiman on 9/17/12 at 5:44

You made a comment from an apparent different speech Obama made. So which one was he lying about and which one was the truth? Does he even know what the truth is?

By: gdiafante on 9/17/12 at 5:49

He can read, he just can't comprehend.

By: dargent7 on 9/17/12 at 5:51

Jeez. I do get sucked into his b.s.
Where did Mittens get the name, "Mitt"?
Why doesn't he go by Willard? How about it's one of the worst names to name a kid?
Barack isn't a Hawaiian name. It's too weird.
Barry is a close enough nick name. Obama already stuck out in Hawaii with a lilly white mother driving him to school. Hawaiians, Samoans, Tongans are brown, but not black and don't have afros.
And I've told him 100x "google" Obama and you can read all you need to know about, "just who is this man"?

Detroit's coming to LP this Sunday and off a loss too. Should be a great game.

By: yogiman on 9/17/12 at 5:56

"Let's face it, a mixed kid from Hawaii born to a single mom is not likely to become president of the United States," Obama told the campaign rally. "But in America it can happen because of education, because somebody gave me opportunity."

Question: Did he mean what he said or did he mean he was born to parents who didn't live together and raised by his mother who he said was single? Is there a reason why a marriage certificate has never been exposed?

By: gdiafante on 9/17/12 at 6:00

I think yogi gets "excited" talking about the President...maybe we should alert the Secret Service...or a psychologist.

By: yogiman on 9/17/12 at 6:00

Mitt is Willard's nickname, just as Barry is Barack's nickname. If Barack can have a nickname, why can't Willard? Nicknames are common with men.

By: gdiafante on 9/17/12 at 6:04

That's true. Yogi's is dumbass.

By: dargent7 on 9/17/12 at 6:09

It isn't reading or comprehension. It's obsession.
And he has these Birther's whose web sites talk, think, and act just like him.
That's where he gets all his false information, believing it's factual.
eg., Obama gave up his US citizenship to attend school in Indonesia. Hasn't heard of a student VISA?
Didn't Mittens do missionary work in France for 2 years?
eg., Dad was born in Kenya ....
Wasn't Romney's dad born in Mexico?
On and on.

By: Captain Nemo on 9/17/12 at 6:16

I am sorry that there is another lock out. I'm not a big Hokey fan, but I do get excited for the Preads and their fan base.

A hockey puck is smarter than a yogi puck.

By: yogiman on 9/17/12 at 6:17

Well boys (mentally), and you men, too. We have 52 days to see if we keep the USA, or jump into the USSA.

As I've said before; it's hard to understand why so many people vote for someone when they don't even know his legal name or any information about him. Like, just who in the hell is this guy? If his name is Barack Obama, when did he repatriate his Indonesian name Barry Soetoro? Is he even an American citizen?

It's going to be interesting to see if all of the states allow him on their ballot without requiring his affirmation of Constitutional eligibility. It will also be interesting if the Electoral College votes him in office without affirming his eligibility and if the Senate approves their vote also without affirming his eligibility.

By: Loner on 9/17/12 at 6:17

Good morning, Nashville.

Well, to paraphrase Harry S. Truman, the puck stops here.

Turn out the lights....the party's over. Too bad, I really enjoyed the "human hockey puck" stunt...or was that supposed to be a human bowling ball on ice? Here's the video:

By: Loner on 9/17/12 at 6:20

Ignoring the troll is still our best course of action....IMO.

Mike Burch actually wasted time and energy arguing with the knuckleheaded racist....I must admit, I also tried to reason with our troll....but no more...it's a waste of time and energy....like a pig rolling in his own excrement, the troll feeds on attention.

By: treehugger7 on 9/17/12 at 6:22

Same sh--, different day for Yogi--get over it alredy!!!

By: dargent7 on 9/17/12 at 6:23

6:56am Yogi.
Where in the US Constitution does it say a President's parents have to be married?
Clinton's dad died when he was two. Obama's left when he was two. Being dead or alive or even a single mother doesn't matter. Gingrich's mom was on husband #3.
The law is where mom had the baby..."on American soil".
Now, you can argue that Hawaii shouldn't have become a state, or wasn't a state long enough, or is too far from the Mainland to suit you. Or it's people are too brown for your taste.
That would make more sense.

By: yogiman on 9/17/12 at 6:28

Yes, Romney's dad was born in Mexico to American parents whose American citizenship was passed down to him from Romney's grandparents who had moved to Mexico and kept their American citizenship.

We don't know if Barack Obama, Sr. was Barry's father because he refuses to show his original birth certificate. But Barry sure favors Frank Marshall Davis more than he does Barack Obama, Sr. and Davis took many nude photos of his mother. Could anything like "having sex" with her have happened?

By: Captain Nemo on 9/17/12 at 6:29

Loner is right and we would be better off by killing the troll by not reading it's drool.

By: bfra on 9/17/12 at 6:34

All I ever read about Mitten, is he is backing down on something he said, but then I'll bet it is hard to talk with a golden foot in his mouth.

By: bfra on 9/17/12 at 6:36

I will repeat, Hope the sky falls on Chicken Little Nov. 6, 2012.

By: yogiman on 9/17/12 at 6:41

Sorry to p!ss you off Loner, but I'm going to use the same privilege to post on this site that you and your fellow fools are using. What I put on this site is just like what you put on it. Read it is you wish, or ignore it if you wish. I hope I live to see what kind of idiots Barack Obama is proving you all to be.

And dargent7, the only qualification a person needs to become President of this nation is to be a natural born citizen who has reached the age of 35 years old and lived in the United States at least 14 years. It doesn't require a special race to become president. So if Obama is a natural born citizen, why doesn't he prove it?

And by the way kids, the only racists on this site are those of you who voted for Barack Obama because of his race because you sure didn't know who in the hell he was.

By: Loner on 9/17/12 at 6:42

I can see why so many have left this board.....the troll droppings are too much for them to handle. The NCP product has been seriously eroded by the unwanted presence of this ignorant and mean-spirited racist. Our only hope is that he goes away or kicks the bucket. I hate to put it like that, but the guy is a terminal pain in the ass.

By: Loner on 9/17/12 at 6:43

When the troll kicks...we will party?

By: gdiafante on 9/17/12 at 6:44

Shut up already...

By: bfra on 9/17/12 at 6:50

I think when someone delibertaely misrepresents a direct quote, that is grounds for expulsion. But if they don't have sense enough to know what quotation marks are......

By: Loner on 9/17/12 at 6:55

I'm starting to lose my love for the NCP too....we had a great posting community here, a few years back...then Clint Brewer went nuts and started zapping posts and banning posters for no reason, other than ideology. The paper slowly recovered, but it was never the same.

Now, we have a resident parasite that is sucking the life out of the product....articulate conservatives and lefties have left this board in significant numbers....this is no longer a thriving posting community...it's moribund...and to think one idiot is the primary reason for the mass exodus....as the number of hits decrease, the ad values go down....the troll may end up bringing the whole thing down.

Posting here is a privilege, not a right, and our troll has abused the privilege, IMO.

By: bfra on 9/17/12 at 6:59

Loner - 24/7, starting with the 1st comment he ever put on the board.

By: eamus-catuli on 9/17/12 at 7:04

Seven years ago the owners said they weren't making enough money and they went to a lockout asking the players to take paycuts across the board. Since that time league revenues have gone from $2.5B to 3.5B and they are asking the players for more! The players made their salary contracts in good faith, now the owners should keep their end of the bargain. Teams who lose money because of mismanagement (MIN, NJ, CBJ) should reap their just rewards in terms of operating losses; these teams can change their management and control opex or they should be forced to sell their teams for market value. Teams with chronic attendance problems (PHX and NYI) should be allowed to move.

It all comes back to Bettman and the owners; they make deals with players then they try to welch on them. I'm with the players on this one and I hope the NHL loses it's shirt - the owners collectively need to taste the whip. The real loser in this lockout is the fan who buys the tickets.

By: Loner on 9/17/12 at 7:05

Bfra, the troll's 1st comment is the same comment that he has posted ever since.... the birther stuff...the Kenyan-birth allegation... the citizenship BS....the "Communist Islamist" BS....the evil black dictator about to declare martial law BS....the Barry Soetero BS...and the attacks on Obama's mother's integrity.....it's the same old stuff...not just boring, it is irritating and that's exactly the troll's plan: to irritate us all into leaving the NCP for good....and the idiot's plan seems to be working.

By: Loner on 9/17/12 at 7:07

TN is a scab-loving state....NHL players are union members, ergo, the Preds ought to pack up and find a less hostile working environment.....Tennessee don't need no steenking unions!

By: Captain Nemo on 9/17/12 at 7:09

I have been considering abandoning this site for sometime now. Not because of the troll that drools on these pages, but because all that keep being lured into his demented nightmare. If not for that I would not pay any attention to his lies. We know that he is a liar and a coward and does not have any comprehension of the authentic humanity in which we all live in.

By: bfra on 9/17/12 at 7:14

Loner - Unions are one of the reason for over the top sports salaries. I think there should be a cap put on salaries that any sports figure can make. But then you would have people yelling "Government Control:". The same ones that complain about the outlandish salaries.

By: gdiafante on 9/17/12 at 7:14

I won't party when he kicks, that's cruel. He's still a human being...I think. I'll party after the election, because he'll have to shut up then, regardless of the outcome.

He should now, no one believes him (except those off anti-psychotic), including the electorate, Congress, the Supreme Court, all lower courts, all foreign nations, and those with functioning gray matter.

By: bfra on 9/17/12 at 7:15

Nemo - Not me, I am just stuborn enough to laugh in the old fools face and show him up for what he really is.

By: Rasputin72 on 9/17/12 at 7:16

Ice Hockey was in need of a real good "LOCKOUT" The longer the lockout the tighter the noose on marginal franchises.

The players will ultimately win this "LOCKOUT" by making a compromise. The only issue that I see that is not within my vision is when will this compromise be made.

By: gdiafante on 9/17/12 at 7:26

The problem with tightening the noose, Raspy, is that since the Canadian dollar is doing well, Canadian franchises are doing well. This wasn't the case in the past, where they required assistance, which the NA teams didn't mind doing.

Now that the roles are reversed, Canadians are crying foul and wanting contraction. The financial situation isn't fixed, the U.S. dollar will eventually rebound and then what will they be saying?

As far as players salaries...they are artificially inflated and the owners have done it to themselves.

I love hockey but I cannot invest myself in a case where millionaires and billionaires are complaining about not getting enough money. To hell with them.

By: yogiman on 9/17/12 at 7:26

I may be a pain in the ass to you for wanting to know who is sitting in the Oval Office, but you and your co-posters are all pains in the ass to me for not giving a damn whether he is legally qualified or not.

And I'll say again, you call me a racist because I want to know who is sitting in that office, but I call you a racist because the only reason you could have to vote for him was his race.

I'm glad I don't think like you.

By: gdiafante on 9/17/12 at 7:29

I know you are but what am I?

By: Captain Nemo on 9/17/12 at 7:30

That is because you are not a man, yogi.

By: Captain Nemo on 9/17/12 at 7:31

yogi is a liar and a coward.

By: bfra on 9/17/12 at 7:33

Nemo - If he wasn't so stupid, he would know who is in the oval office!
