Up for Debate: Political ad effectiveness

Monday, September 24, 2012 at 2:54am

How much of an effect do political ads have on swaying your decision in an election? Are you turned off from a candidate because of negative ads? Have you ever felt distinctly swayed by an ad?

Darn,

Are you hitting the wrong buttons, too, Loner? You need to watch what you're doing and hit the right key.

I'll take it from p3's silence that he has no answer other than to complain. I have yet to hear anyone critical of what we're doing right now to give a rational explanation of what we could be doing differently. Not our long-term policy, but in reaction to these protests.

gdiafante,

If you are, in fact, interested in Obama's eligibility, go to

giveusliberty1776.blogspot.com/2012/09/hawaii-recap.html/ Are they facts, or are they lying?

p3 and the likes are spining in their tracks, gdia. They have nothing, because there is nothing for them.

He either has nothing or is searching Foxnews.com trying to find what the pundits there think. That's his modus operandi.

By: Loner on 9/24/12 at 11:24

Time to go to my weekly war protest....keepin' the faith....Loner out.

By: yogiman on 9/24/12 at 11:46

gdiafante,

Are referring to me? If so, you should note that isn't Fox News I referred to. There are several videos on that site with Obama and or wife talking.

You must be afraid of what you'll read in the articles and hear what you'll hear on the videos. You can only hide for so long and then you're found. The facts have been brought out.

Read um and weep.

Well I was going to check in but I see loner's checked out already.

Y'all have a nice day.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 9/24/12 at 12:04

Good afternoon, folks! At least living in a solid red state has spared us the number of political ads. I can only imagine what it's like in OH right now.

By: gdiafante on 9/24/12 at 12:11

Well I was going to check in but I see loner's checked out already.

Yeah, well that is called checking in, but I digress...buh bye

(clang!)

Newer information for you Obama admirers. It seems a Saudi Prince "sponsored" Barry's enrollment to Harvard law school.

www.wnd.com/2012/09/saudi-billonaire-did-help-obama-into-harvard/

Question: What was a Saudi Arabia Prince's interest in Obama going through Harvard law school? What was his interest in Obama?

Could it be because Obama has more Arab heritage than African?

bfra, I saw that you were no fan of Jerry Maynard.

By: bfra on 9/24/12 at 1:39

Blanket - Definitely not!

By: Blanketnazi2 on 9/24/12 at 1:40

Why not? Just curious.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 9/24/12 at 1:46

I've sat down and talked with him a couple of times over the past few years and I like his ideas on how to improve metro schools.

By: bfra on 9/24/12 at 1:53

Maynard is a disbarred attorney, has had his finger in more under the table deals than probably in councilperson to date. We need honest people in government, that are not always looking to self-serve.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 9/24/12 at 1:54

I thought he was late in renewing his license, not disbarred. When did that happen?

By: Blanketnazi2 on 9/24/12 at 1:54

What are the under the table deals?

By: bfra on 9/24/12 at 2:05

Blanket - He is listed as disbarred (no license). Deals that a reputable government official should not be in, as to listing them, I can't. I have read about him over the years and have been in awe as to how he keeps getting elected. "Good Old Boys in politics". Too much of that goes on in Davidson Co.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 9/24/12 at 2:08

He's hardly a good ole boy and he has been jerked around over little things.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 9/24/12 at 2:17

Jerry L. Maynard, II (Davidson County) — Mr. Maynard was censured because of his continuing to practice law while his law license was administratively suspended for failing to comply with Continuing Legal Education and registration fee requirements.

Interesting.... democrats in all of their glory.

Looks like we agree on one think, bfra: Honesty in government. So why are you so willing to accept someone in government without making your feelings known when you know they aren't in that office honestly?

By: bfra on 9/24/12 at 2:20

I'll agree, he isn't a good ole boy, in another sense of the phrase, but we need some honest, caring people in our Government & not someone always looking out for their own self interest. IMO, we do not need Maynard or his likes for Mayor.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 9/24/12 at 2:22

Huh. He didn't strike me as that when I talked to him. I'll do some research as to what's been reported on him. I know the good ole boys don't like him and are always trying to smear him.

By: bfra on 9/24/12 at 2:23

Blanket - I had read your post before, that is what I call a shyster. Why should he be allowed to practice law, when he won't even obey the laws?

By: Blanketnazi2 on 9/24/12 at 2:32

I've never heard of him doing anything self-serving. He is one of the more progressive voices in the council which makes the other members try to vilify him.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 9/24/12 at 2:34

Actually, it was a technicality that most other people do not get called on the carpet for. He has been nit picked to death by the other members of council. Everything that he has proposed and backed were good for Nashville and I didn't see anything that would be considered self serving. As I've said, I've sat down and talked with him on a couple of occasions and he was one of the more reasonable and level headed members of the council We do have a few crazies on the council and he's much better than those idiots.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 9/24/12 at 2:37

We had a pretty long discussion a few years ago about the need for vocational classes within metro. This is something I've felt strongly about and he was wanting to work on bringing vocational classes back. Not all kids are college bound and there has to be something inbetween white collar worker and McDonald's.

By: bfra on 9/24/12 at 2:38

Blanket - I will agree to disagree. That is what makes the World go around, everybody has their own opinion but, I will not vote for him for any Metro office. He is a professional politician & will say or do anything to get elected. We have several on the council that are the same.

By: bfra on 9/24/12 at 2:40

Blanket - I definitely agree with you on the vocational classes. It is stupid that they are not offered anymore.

By: slacker on 9/24/12 at 2:49

bfra, I believe Nashville's liberal voters, will go for Megan Barry. The liberals are a majority, so.. she probably beats Hall.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 9/24/12 at 2:50

Yeah, Megan Barry has pretty strong support in West Nashville.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 9/24/12 at 2:51

bfra, there's less than 50% of the council that I think are worth anything. There's only a few I think are worth holding office.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 9/24/12 at 2:52

I used to have a higher opinion before I started attending some meet and greet type functions. Some of them are blithering idiots.

By: slacker on 9/24/12 at 3:00

nazi.. you should have lived here, when Ludye was on duty.
Council meetings were high entertainment.

By: bfra on 9/24/12 at 3:02

Blanket - I also had higher opinions, until so many started letting Dean lead them around by the nose.

I don't know that much about Barry, but will strive to do so before voting.

By: bfra on 9/24/12 at 3:03

IMO - Maynard & Ludye are about the same caliber.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 9/24/12 at 3:05

Oh, I've heard stories about Ludye! LOL

bfra, I don't think they're of the same caliber. They broke the mold when they made Ludye, or at least I hope they did!

By: Blanketnazi2 on 9/24/12 at 3:06

Didn't Ludye have zoning changes made so that he could open a liquor store? I barely remember something along those lines....

By: slacker on 9/24/12 at 3:10

We had a keg party on tues. to watch Ludye, it was hilarious.
Almost better than the PTL club, with Jim &Tammy.
The good ole days of tv.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 9/24/12 at 3:12

That's awesome. He was quite a character. Almost as amusing as John Jay Hooker.

By: bfra on 9/24/12 at 3:17

Blanket - Yes John Jay is colorful, but he has more legal knowledge in his little finger than most lawyers here have put together.
