Up for Debate: Pope's remarks on gays

Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at 12:45am

Speaking about homosexuals, Pope Francis said recently, "If someone is gay and he searches for the Lord and has good will, who am I to judge?" What is your reaction to hearing that from the pope?

It's nice to see that there can be a religious leader amongst us who understands that ones humanity and concern for others is not defined by ones faith.... or lack thereof.

By: BigPapa on 7/30/13 at 9:53

Well God's representative here on earth has spoken. Time for all yall to leave the gay folks alone.

(Isn't that the way it's supposed to work when you're Pope?)

By: Kosh III on 7/30/13 at 9:54

IMHO
What he is indicating is that a gay person can enter the priesthood. This is a change from Pope Ratzi who tried to weed gay men out from the seminary, along with a whole lot of of other gay-hating policies and procedures.

He is NOT saying it's ok to be gay---he's still a long way from the correct views as exemplified by other denominations now e.g. PCUSA, ELCA, UCC, DofC and others.

This is a sensible policy since it's a well-known "secret" that half or more of the clergy are gay and have been for centuries.

I'm waiting for the Southern Baptist to call for the revocation of the 19th Amendment. They're typically quite regressive.

By: Kosh III on 7/30/13 at 9:57

BTW
The vast majority of AIDS virus transmission comes from penis+vagina sex.
The second largest number of transmissions are from maternal milk to infant though this is declining steeply now due to medical advances.

Only a tiny % are from male+male sex and to date there are ZERO cases of ADIS transmission from female+female sex.
It's about disease, not sexual orientation.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 7/30/13 at 10:01

Indeed, Kosh.

True, the only reason AIDS is seen as a "gay" disease by us here in the states is because it was the gay population that was introduced to it first, thus limiting it's exposure to the hetero community. That makes us unique among most other countries...

Kosh-

What do you expect from the moron flea, surely not the truth, facts or an honest opinion. The little parasite is a mix of out of control paranoid and the fear of being a homosexual Queen.

GAY, BISEXUAL, AND OTHER MEN WHO HAVE SEX WITH MEN (MSM):
By risk group, gay, bisexual, and other MSM of all races remain the population most severely affected by HIV.
MSM accounted for 61% of all new HIV infections in the U.S. in 2009, as well as nearly half (49%) of people living with HIV in 2008 (the most recent year national prevalence data is available).
CDC estimates that MSM account for just 2% of the U.S. male population aged 13 and older, but accounted for more than 50% of all new HIV infections annually from 2006 to 2009. In 2010, MSM accounted for 61% of HIV diagnoses.
In 2009, white MSM accounted for the largest number of annual new HIV infections of any group in the U.S. (11,400), followed closely by black MSM (10,800).
Young, black MSM were the only risk group in the U.S. to experience statistically significant increases in new HIV infections from 2006–2009—from 4,400 new HIV infections in 2006 to 6,500 infections in 2009.

Diseased-ridden freaktards who would hump a knothole in a pinch. That is, if they cannot lay their filthy hands on a young boy at Opryland.

It's about character, and the lack thereof.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 7/30/13 at 10:17

I thought you had to go to work, flea.

2% of the population, over 50% of new AIDs infections.

They just cannot stop themselves from their promiscuous deviancy, and nature rewards them.

Other researchers have taken different approaches, but have similarly failed to find a connection between homosexuality and child molestation. Dr. Carole Jenny and her colleagues reviewed 352 medical charts, representing all of the sexually abused children seen in the emergency room or child abuse clinic of a Denver children's hospital during a one-year period (from July 1, 1991 to June 30, 1992). The molester was a gay or lesbian adult in fewer than 1% of cases in which an adult molester could be identified – only 2 of the 269 cases

More uneducated bigotry from the Jugtard.

Jughead is a jumping and a humping clutter of hormones. The queen flea is leaping about on a hot tin roof as if there is no end. I wonder if he drinks, pops pills or both to get to sleep at night.

Thanks for the link Blanket, this is eye opening.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 7/30/13 at 10:52

Especially the rural South - the Bible Belt. Perhaps lack of sex education is part of it?

By: Kosh III on 7/30/13 at 10:59

More white violence against blacks.

I should have said that my facts were global statistics.

In sub-Sahara Africa, more heterosexuals die of AIDS each year than have died in the US since 1981.

I readily admit you know more about some subjects than I B2, but I also readily conclude I know more about some subjects than you (and your fellow posters) on this site; especially what is going on in this nation politically today.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 7/30/13 at 11:18

I really am happy with Pope Francis. I do think he'll be a good influence for worldwide tolerance and acceptance and reinforcing the church as a protector of the poor.

By: bfra on 7/30/13 at 11:56

Blanket - Thus far everything Pope Francis has done points in that direction. I think he is a very levelheaded thinking person.

By: budlight on 7/30/13 at 12:19

Blanket, Do you remember?

1. In 1968 , Bobby Kennedy was shot and killed by a Muslim male.
2. In 1972 at the Munich Olympics, athletes were kidnapped and massacred by Muslim males.
3. In 1972 a Pan Am 747 was hijacked and eventually diverted to Cairo where a fuse was lit on final approach and it was blown up shortly after landing by Muslim males.
4. In 1973 a Pan Am 707 was destroyed in Rome , with 33 people killed, when it was attacked with grenades by Muslim males.
5. In 1979 , the US embassy in Iran was taken over by Muslim males.
6. During the 1980's a number of Americans were kidnapped in Lebanon by Muslim males.
7. In 1983 , the US Marine barracks in Beirut was blown up by Muslim males .
8. In 1985 , the cruise ship Achille Lauro was hijacked and a 70 year old American passenger was murdered and thrown overboard in his wheelchair by Muslim males. In is wheelchair.
9. In 1985 , TWA flight 847 was hijacked at Athens , and a US Navy diver trying to rescue passengers was murdered by Muslim males.
10. In 1988 , Pan Am Flight 103 was bombed by Muslim males.
11. In 1993 , the World Trade Center was bombed the first time by Muslim males.
12. In 1998 , the US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania were bombed by Muslim males.
13. On 9/11/01 , four airliners were hijacked; two were used as missiles
to take down the World Trade Centers and of the remaining two, one crashed into the US Pentagon and the other was diverted and crashed by the passengers. Thousands of people were killed by Muslim males.
14. In 2002 , the United States fought a war in Afghanistan against Muslim males.
15. In 2002 , reporter Daniel Pearl was kidnapped and beheaded by---you guessed it was --- Muslim males.

As the writer of the award winning story 'Forrest Gump' so aptly put it, 'Stupid Is As Stupid Does'
No, Blanket, probably not. But then Muslim men would not even shake the hand of this American woman, or so I’m told.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 7/30/13 at 12:28

So, you don't know that from experience, bud? I guess maybe you better send that info to the Pope.....

By: Blanketnazi2 on 7/30/13 at 12:29

I'm sure he would enjoy such loving enlightenment from such a good Christian as yourself.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 7/30/13 at 12:34

Have you ever bothered to look up what contributions Muslims have made to the United States? I bet you haven't.....

By: Blanketnazi2 on 7/30/13 at 12:39

There are many businesses along Nolensville Road that are owned by Muslims. They have shaken my hand and were courteous to me. Maybe it has less to do with you being a white woman and more about you being a mean spirited and judgemental person.

You don't know me and yet you judge that I am mean spirited and judgemental? Interesting.

Yet you call me judgmental? Pot calling kettle black? Oh, but you are allowed to judge me, right? Yeah, right!

An observation is a judgement? Or is a judgement an observation?

By: dargent7 on 7/30/13 at 1:07

See the 3 million on Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janerio?
Why doesn't yogi ask to see his birth certificate? Is the Pope an usurper?
He says he was born in Argentina...but, was he?

By: Blanketnazi2 on 7/30/13 at 1:07

Your words prove you to be mean spirited, bud. I'm not the only one who has noticed - lol! We all know you hate gays, Muslims and Hispanics and love to make holier-than-thou statements. That's not an opinion - it's fact.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 7/30/13 at 1:08

The Pope is setting a fine example of tolerance and acceptance and for not allowing oneself to be ruled by materialism. True Christians should follow his lead.

From 1907 to1920, WHITES lynched 26 black men in Oklahoma.

In 1921 WHITES in Tulsa rioted and destroyed the negro section of the city resulting in hundreds of deaths, mostly black.
"Numerous witness accounts described airplanes carrying white assailants, who fired rifles and dropped firebombs on buildings, homes, and fleeing families."

In 1919, black teens accidentally strayed onto the white section of a beach sparking WHITES to attack and murder them.

Selma
Birmingham
need I go on?

These and many more were of course done by WHITE "Christians."

By: Blanketnazi2 on 7/30/13 at 1:11

dargent, you're Catholic, correct?

By: Blanketnazi2 on 7/30/13 at 1:20

Muslim homegrown terrorists may draw the attention of a nation still traumatized by 9/11, but such plots are no more numerous or serious than those perpetrated by other domestic terrorists in the United States. As the country's history and Monday's arrests underscore, extremism comes in many incarnations. Focusing only on terrorism perpetrated by American Muslims misrepresents the scope and nature of domestic terrorism in the United States. It risks leaving us vulnerable to attacks from other sorts of violent idealogues and promotes a hurtful—and pointless—tension between Muslim-Americans and other Americans.

While Timothy McVeigh's 1995 bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City was unusual in its lethality, it was unfortunately far from the only plot hatched by extremists on the right. The Southern Poverty Law Center documents 75 plots, of varying degrees of operational advancement, between July 1995 and June 2009 and an additional 22 from 2009 through November 2011.

A FACT? Based on your experience with me? Gee, you've never even met me. And if I hate hispanics, why did my mom name me after one? Gee, you didn't know that, did you? And my gay friends? Hmmm! Do I hate them? Gee, I didn't know that. Glad you enlightened me. And muslims? No I don't hate them. I just don't trust Islamists. Why should I? They want to destroy my country.

And by the way blanket, my Mother was a very devout Catholic. Judge her, too? Yeah, all of us are so mean spirited. And you are the one person who knows that for a FACT?

So why did my brother lose his job in Florida in 1966 for standing up for black service men at the USO club? Didn't know that, did you?

Blanket, I perceive you as judgmental, as well. And holier than thou unless someone agrees 100% with you.

Kosh, could you also give me a list of whites killed by blacks? Or blacks killed by blacks? Or whites killed by whites? Killing someone is wrong. All races and genders and nationalities are guilty of that sin. Can't just pin it on whites.

I just try to help as many people as I can in life, but the "gimmie" crowd is growing and it's sad for our country.

By: Kosh III on 7/30/13 at 1:32

You better warn the Pope, then. He's encouraging people to give to the "gimme" crowd that you speak of.
