Up for Debate: Preds make moves

Monday, July 2, 2012 at 1:11am

The Nashville Predators were involved in some interesting player moves on Sunday, the first day of free agency. Former Pred Chris Mason returns, while Jordin Tootoo plays turncoat. There is still, however, no deal yet for either Ryan Suter, who is testing the free agency market, or his defense partner, Shea Weber. How do you feel about the player trades so far, and what are your predictions on what will happen with Suter?

Tennessee is a great place, budlight, it's just the Obama lovers getting on your nerves. Heck, just move out of Nashville. We could use a population growth in Smith County.

Just saw a report, Andy Griffith died, he was 86. Sad to lose another great actor & person, sympathy to all his friends & family.

By: Loner on 7/3/12 at 8:42

Good morning, Nashville.

This hockey topic board appeared late in the day yesterday? I guess it's the freshest and hottest NCP board...the regulars are all here.

As for the Preds...let's pray that they don't fall prey to a larger predator...on the ice, it's survival of the fittest....but financially, it's survival of the fattest.

RIP Andy Griffith....one of the great ones, IMO.

Uhhh...what's the scoreboard all about, Captain?

By: yogiman on 7/3/12 at 8:45

Okay, you fellows don't like a "dumb" question in your frame of mind so how about this one: When did it become acceptable for the US President to use Air Force One in making telephone calls in campaign funding solicitations?

Obama has, so far, used Air Force One to 175 re-election fund-raisers in his first term.

He has spent more time raising money for re-election since he went in office than any President before him.

Wouldn't it be great, if he was in office legally, for him to stay home and do the job he was "hired" to do instead of roaming the country looking for money at our expense?

By: yogiman on 7/3/12 at 8:51

When are you moving over here, nimrod? You would be a prime example for the idiots we might have and we could convince them to move to Nashville and split the number.

I agree, Yogiman is a pest...what they call a "troll"....but having free speech means that we have to suffer fools occasionally....knuckleheads too.

The best way to deal with annoying trolls is to ignore them....responding to their posts just encourages them....their mission is to annoy......if we do not respond to trolls, they will not be able to say, "mission accomplished".

By: slacker on 7/3/12 at 9:10

I look forward to reading the Lone One's posts... especially the last one about ignoring the sad old man.

By: Loner on 7/3/12 at 9:13

Discussing Ice Hockey on the 3d of July seems incongruous to me...but hey, they put out a fresh litter box for us regulars at the Nashville City Paper...the old board was full of troll droppings....this one is a little fresher.....thank you, NCP.

By: gdiafante on 7/3/12 at 9:16

No, talking hockey on July 3 is natural...especially considering free agency began on July 1st.

In fact, talking hockey 365 is normal to me...

By: Loner on 7/3/12 at 9:20

Thank you, Slack. I enjoy reading your posts too....look out...they'll be calling this a bromance....not that there's anything wrong with that... (nervous laugh here).

But seriously, what happened to the piano and the gay clientele in the running gag, bar joke? The subjects in the joke are now walking into a generic bar? Are we letting PC creep into our running gags? Maybe the original gag was homophobic? Was it "hate speech"?

By: slacker on 7/3/12 at 9:30

Loner there were threats from the Baldwin piano co. or maybe it was Alex Baldwin. The gay guys threatened a pillow fight. But hey.. screw em'... not that there's anything wrong with that.
A troll walks into a gay piano bar.. a pillow fight erupts..

By: Loner on 7/3/12 at 9:34

I see your point, GD....this is current and topical....I stand corrected.

Other things kicked in on July 1st too.

The oil embargo on Iranian oil was to clamp down hard on the first of July...the sanctions are targeting the Iranian jugular....Iran is test-firing medium range missiles capable of hitting Israel at this time and they are citing the Israeli threat as the reason for the show of force.

The US has spent billions on Israel's "Iron Dome" missile defense system...we have nothing like it here, of course.

The Israelis are very confident that the Iron Dome will deflect most of the missiles that Iran might fire in retaliation for any IDF strike on Iranian nuclear plants.

The Iron Dome has made the Israelis even more cocky than they have been since 1967...they do not fear the Iranian missiles....and if Iran starts launching missiles at Israel, the Israelis know that the US Congress will demand that the POTUS immediately order US Air Force and Naval air strikes against Iran....we will quickly be at war, IMO.

Holy Wars Suck.

By: Loner on 7/3/12 at 9:39

LOL on your 10:30 post, Slack.....after the pillow fight....the troll orders a pitcher of Orgasms for the feathered foo-foo fighters....

From Wikipedia:

The Orgasm is a cocktail that can be either served on the rocks or layered and drunk as a shooter. It is an IBA official cocktail.

There are many other versions of this popular mixed drink. One of those forms is remembered by "being made on your B.A.C.K.", or made with Bailey's, Amaretto, cream (half and half) and Kahlúa, with each ingredient having a one part measure. Another variation contains Vodka, Amaretto, Triple Sec, White Creme de Cacao, and Light Cream. The light cream has a 1 oz. contribution to this drink while the other ingredients have a 1/2 oz. contribution. This variation of the recipe is more commonly known as a "Screaming Orgasm". Cocktail recipes change over time with the addition and/or subtraction of their ingredients.

By: Loner on 7/3/12 at 9:53

I love that mnemonic device...the acronym BACK....you have an orgasm on your BACK....Bailey's, Amaretto, Cream (half and half) & Kahlúa....why go with the half and half...full-fat?

Lactose tolerant, skinny dude in a generic bar says, "Uhh, ma'm, I'd like heavy cream in my Orgasm please...thank you".

The homophobic barmaid. says, "You'll have to go across the street, to the gay piano bar, to get that drink, buddy.".

Loner, CP has a self-outed gay guy that occasionally posts. I don't recall his handle, but I'm sure its not Anderson Cooper.

By: yogiman on 7/3/12 at 10:11

Well, it looks like we agree on something again, Loner. Because through of the free speech privilege we have in our Constitution, we have fools accepting false claims of, about and from a usurper sitting in our White House convincing them to believe he is legally in said office.

And it seems like there's more fools on your side of the fence in that fools' yard accepting someone in OUR White House who refuses to identify himself to you as who in the hell he is.

But hang in there, Loner, if he keeps his usurpation in office in November, you can bet your posterior your free speech will come to a halt.

By: Loner on 7/3/12 at 10:16

JVH2 is gay...or so he claims....if he objects to the gay piano bar joking, then maybe we should retire it?

I like the gag, because of the inherent suspense factor and improbability in the setting of the joke...no matter who or what walks, struts, prances, dances, sashays, marches or crawls into a setting like that it cranks up the absurdity level...it winds the spring, so to speak.....when the subject of the joke orders the drink(s), the initial punchline is delivered...but a final rejoinder can come from the person ordering the drink, the person behind the bar or from patrons in the place, for a second punchline.

The gay piano bar joke could be used by gays or straights....we must remember that in humor, there is pain...laughing at the pain is what makes us human, IMO.

By: yogiman on 7/3/12 at 10:20

Free speech is a privilege based on our Constitution, slacker, yet you feel you and your fellow posters should have the sole privilege of BSing to your heat's desire on a particular site but anyone that doesn't agree with you should "keep their mouth shut".

How about re-reading the Constitution to understand what free speech means.

Or flounces.

--------------
I started the whole gay bar gag thing when I mentioned having seen Neil Sedaka in a gay piano bar in San Diego years ago. This was when his career was low. He definitely fit in with the crowd if you know what I mean.

As one with two gay siblings, two gay nephews as well as friends and neighbors--I find the jokes to be no more offensive than any other because I realize that folks here aren't being mean, just having some fun.

Meanwhile, a drunken postal carrier prances into a gay leather S&M* bar and.....

Anderson Cooper caught... coming out of a gay piano bar... says ya got me.. I'm gay.
Says.. are you happy now that I'm gay?

By: slacker on 7/3/12 at 10:51

Pale, skinny, postal carrier.. swearing loudly in Hebrew. Threatens to lose the bartenders mail.. if not served an ''Appletini''..

By: Loner on 7/3/12 at 10:54

Thank you Kosh, for owning up to the origins of that long-running gag....drunken postal workers don't "prance", Kosh....they drag their bag, normally. But the leather part sure fits...Postmistress General struts into a Post Office.....orders the clerk at the window to lick her stamps.

Slack, in that gay piano bar the piano was queer...only 87 keys....and a loose stool.

By: slacker on 7/3/12 at 10:58

lol loner. See ya'll later, I've gotta return some videos.. have a great 4th.

By: Loner on 7/3/12 at 10:58

''Appletini''....I Googled it.

Appletini recipe:
Scale ingredients to servings
1 1/2 oz Smirnoff® Green Apple Twist vodka
1 oz DeKuyper® Sour Apple Pucker schnapps

Stir ingredients together with crushed ice in a cocktail/martini glass, and serve.

See ya, Slack...have a great holiday.....I'll be puckering up, like a New York sour apple, keeping an eye on our "closest ally in the Middle East"....keeping tabs on the suckering and the puckering.....when the Congress voted 411-2 on the recent Israel Defense resolution, it illustrated just how lonely the task is..

Israel has Iron Dome....we got nada...Congress is more concerned with Israel's survival than it is with our own....or so it seems.

We celebrate our independence from Great Britain on the 4th of July.....we should be celebrating our independence from the militant and apartheid Jewish state in Palestine...instead of passing Congressional Resolutions that insure an "unshakeable bond" between our two nations. The American Founders would be dumbfounded to witness this slide into theocracy.....they knew how much holy wars suck.....we are ignoring their sage advice.

By: gdiafante on 7/3/12 at 11:29

Yogi, if you read the Constitution you'd realize that freedom of speech is a right. And if you were banned, it would be because you have libeled the President. In case you don't know what libel is, it's a false and malicious published statement that damages someone's reputation.

This is not protected by the 1st amendment. The Communications Decency Act prevents NCP from being held responsible for the idiot ramblings of Paul Wade, but that doesn't mean that they can't enforce their rules that restrict that kind of unprotected speech.

By: Loner on 7/3/12 at 12:01

Interesting angle, GD.....the troll could be sued for libel ....I suppose....but the POTUS has bigger fish to fry.....the troll gets his BS from sources who may be guilty of libel....or is it legit to question the legitimacy of the POTUS or any politician? I suppose that is protected speech, .but I'm no judge....no legal eagle....just a poster on a comment board...since these comments are not printed on paper, is this still libel? Being "published" and posting on an online published piece are not the same thing.

Should we be sued for expressing our opinions? Let us not go down that road.

By: yogiman on 7/3/12 at 12:07

This site belongs to NCP, gdiafarte, and they can accept, or refuse, anyone they want to accept, or don't want to accept on this site. That's their legal right and privilege.

You can call me an idiot for your personal reasons; okay. And I can call you idiot on my personal reasons. So let's call each other an idiot and see who's right in November.

I suggest you accuse me of libeling Barack Obama as our president and let's see what happens. Either you're right, or I am.

I'm surely not like you because I can't accept someone as my president who has refused to identify himself from the day he stated he was entering the race.

Question: Can you explain why he accepted an advertisement by his literary agent about being born in Kenya in 1991 at age 20, and let that ad continued to be printed until 2007 when he entered the presidential race?

Can you explain why he has spent well over a million dollars to keep his birth certificate and all other papers under lock and key? I strongly suspect he's hiding something that I would call official papers of proof.

Again, Loner, I'm not saying whether it is or not, I'm just saying that the NCP, if it determines that yogi has crossed the line, is perfectly justified in banning him as violating the terms of service.

And you can absolutely be held liable for defamatory things on the internet, it happens all the time.

By: yogiman on 7/3/12 at 12:10

Libel is libel, Loner, whether it's verbal or printed. And I'll repeat, accuse me of it and let's see who's the biggest liar. Fair enough? File your suit.

By: gdiafante on 7/3/12 at 12:15

Actually, yogi, if you were accused of it, the burden of proof is on you. Just remember, truth is a defense. So if you can proove your accusations, you have nothing to worry about.
