Up for Debate: Reignited abortion debate, no exceptions

Thursday, August 23, 2012 at 1:34am

Given the reignited debate surrounding rape and abortion following the comments by Todd Akin, what are your opinions on exceptions for abortion in pregnancies resulting from rape or incest?

I can see it now...Today, the Catholic Church has boycotted Kroger in response to contraceptive machines...protests grow around the country...the Pope today said "shop at Publix"...

We've divided fast food (Conservatives go to Chic-Fil-A), so why not start with supermarkets too. That's where we're headed.

I'm waiting for the water fountains that say "Conservatives only".

I thought that the Supreme Court settled the abortion debate years ago. I can't understand why men have the last say over a woman's body. They do not want an abortion, but when the baby arrives and has to be put on welfare, they want to cut that help. I just don't get it. Nothing in life is perfect and there are a lot of pregancies that are not prefect in many ways and and obortion is necessary. This should be an individual decision and the stupid law makers need to let the Supreme Cousrt rule on this one. Most people make the right decisions. This Todd guy thinks like the GOP. What happened to these men's childhood that lets them to be so distored in their thinking.

If the Catholics don't fall into line, we threaten 'em with no meat on fridays again.
They'll get the message.

Eugenics is one of those taboo words that liberals don't say anymore but it's a necessary progression of the 'everyone else is an idiot' liberal mentality.

I don't mind there being people who take a principled stand for life when there are other people in this world in positions of power taking a principled stand for death.

Nemo, this is what happens when idiot conspiracy theories are allowed to grow. There is a growing faction of nuts in this country and they're arming themselves.

The irony is that they are the ones hellbent on causing conflict.

Collectively, this nation needs a Xanax.

By: gdiafante on 8/23/12 at 10:47

Ben, that's the third time you said the same statement, is that the talking point of the day?

By: bfra on 8/23/12 at 10:49

No Ben, it's probably because all the TARP money has been used that is making the conservatives & teabaggers so whacky.

As I've said... you guys are a little thick sometimes... or better stated, you suffer confirmation bias to the max on issues and seldom are introduced any reason to question it.

I'm just pointing out that there's another side to the argument. The idea that life since conception is sacred is in no way anymore offensive than the idea that stupid or poor people shouldn't reproduce.

By: gdiafante on 8/23/12 at 11:00

Right Ben, I'm glad you cleared that up. I had no idea that an argument, which is defined as a discussion including two points of view would include two sides. I'm sure no one else here does either.

What would we do if we didn't have Mr. Obvious gracing us with is pleasure?

Ah hell with it, screwed that up royally...should have been "graced us with his presence".

By: BenDover on 8/23/12 at 11:06

Actually I think you nailed this issue like you do many, gd.

By: yogiman on 8/23/12 at 11:07

Wrong, gdiafarte. No one wants another civil war, but if Barry usurps that office again all hell will break lose. The people have learned too much about him.

All things considered, there's much more than Obama on the situation today. He was just a "easy to use" example of the plot. Congress has let this happen from the beginning. Congress controls the government. They control the legislative and legal branches.

By the way, can you explain why the government is buying so much hollow point ammo? What in the cornbread hell is the Nation Weather Service going to use those bullets for? Or any other department that isn't in the defense program.

Why is Obama degrading the military when the situations are getting to be threatening today? Could it be he intends to eliminate the armed forces and bring his personal army into the scene, like Adolph Hitler did?

Between now and Nov. 6 will be the biggest history makings of our nation, so clean it, grease it and keep it loaded... and buy more bullets.

Ben you don't mind there being people taking a stand for life when there are people standing for death. That sounds a lot like what the GOP uses when they need a wedge.

By: Captain Nemo on 8/23/12 at 12:28

gdia your 10:46 is what I have been expecting for sometime now. It want matter who win the war, because America wil be over run by a foreign power.

By: budlight on 8/23/12 at 12:29

Capt. you are one to talk. Just look in the mirror. Or on second thought. Don't. Broken glass is 7 years bad luck and you're still in your last 7 from the time you stepped in front of the mirror. LOL

The conservataives have a point of view and the liberals have a point of view and never the twain shall meet.

Hey Yogi, how about those brave ICE agents suing the o'great white leader Janet Napalatino (sp) over the recent "let the illegals stay" agenda? Great move! Send them some money for their case. Maybe logic will win out sooner or later. Or not!

What part of "do not come across the border without proper documentation" is hard to understand even in Spanish or Chinease or whatever they are speaking? No more illegal visitors. Try going to Canada illegally. Most don't succeed. Try going to Mexico illegally. I betcha' none of them succeed or if so, they are in jail.

Or china; or russia; or any other country besides the U.S. Hey why don't all the illegals go to Cuba and make their own country? Castro is declining and the other Castro needs them.

Hey, you have your type of fun and I'll have mine...

Actually, on the topic of abortion, at one time there wasn't much difference between conservatives and liberals... of course that was before the religious right took over the GOP.

By: Captain Nemo on 8/23/12 at 12:34

I thought that was obvious bfra. lol

Very interesting, brrrrk.

By: budlight on 8/23/12 at 12:39

"In the last hour, a group of 10 federal immigration-enforcement agents -- including the president of the agents' union -- filed suit against Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Janet Napolitano and ICE Director John Morton.

The suit seeks an injunction against Napolitano's June 15 directive that includes issuing work permits to a whole class of illegal aliens, estimated at 1.7 million, under the age of 31. The 10 agents of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) section of DHS contend that the directive for the amnesty that DHS began to hand out on Aug. 15 is "unlawful and unconstitutional."

Kris Kobach, the nation's best-known immigration litigator, is leading the agents' legal team"

And the religious right? What about the liberal left taking over the White House? Guess the twain shall not meet, shall they?

I'm going to Kroger; oops no, Publix; oops no Aldi; oops no Sav a lot!

By: Captain Nemo on 8/23/12 at 12:45

bud counters with I should look in a mirror? Then she lashes out with right wing superstition wishing I would break a mirror. She proves my point. Thank you!

When I look into a mirror I don't see an hideous old troll looking back at me.

By: Captain Nemo on 8/23/12 at 12:48

Lets go to Kroger with a Snow Alert. lol

By: yogiman on 8/23/12 at 1:02

If you haven't learned anything about Barry Soetoro aka Barack Obama by now, bfra, your mentality has shrunk too much for you to see beyond your nose.

I'll have to admit, he's got a lot of damn fools on his side... like you.

Tell me, do you know why he's in the process of lowering our military with the likely situation of today? Can you explain why the government departments that aren't in the defense branch are buying hollow point bullets by the hundreds of thousands?

Clean your ears and have you eyes examined, bfer. You might learn what Barry is intending to do to this nation.

By: gdiafante on 8/23/12 at 1:11

Tell me, do you know why he's in the process of lowering our military with the likely situation of today?

Certainly, it's called a budget crisis.

Can you explain why the government departments that aren't in the defense branch are buying hollow point bullets by the hundreds of thousands?

Are you refering to the SSA agents, who are full law enforcement authorities that execute search warrants, make arrests and respond to threats to the agency and/or offices? Now why would they need standard issue ammunition...

Here boy...look...there's a conspiracy behind that bush...go get it boy...there you go...good boy...

lol

Ben you don't mind there being people taking a stand for life when there are people standing for death. That sounds a lot like what the GOP uses when they need a wedge.

Hey... I didn't make an offhanded remark that some pro-life zealot said into a 4 day news cycle, Nemo... I'm just returning fire and pointing out that the wedge cuts both ways.

There are at least as many earth worshipers and population bomb-zombies who consider humans an infestation as there are zealots who want to protect innocent human life.

By: yogiman on 8/23/12 at 1:40

No, gdiafante, I'm talking about departments such as the National Weather Service. We never had bullets in our office when I worked in that department.

With an obvious war being mentioned, why is he thinking about reducing the military? Is he thinking about using the new army he's developing? You know, his personal army he's building like Hitler.

You had better start doing a little looking also.

By: slacker on 8/23/12 at 1:51

Yogi.. as an unlicensed physician, I must double your lithium dose.
Take without food.

By: Captain Nemo on 8/23/12 at 1:52

Ben, when anything becomes too much, (including humanity) then infestation is a good idiom as any. As for the zealots / infestation, I consider them all the same.

By: BenDover on 8/23/12 at 1:55

That is weird how much hollow point ammo they are buying for the various 'non-lethal' agencies.

By: BenDover on 8/23/12 at 1:58

I think that eugenicist ideas of sterilization and abortion are much more radical than people who are pro-life.

By: gdiafante on 8/23/12 at 2:01

I'm talking about departments such as the National Weather Service.

Translation; I wish they had let us janitors had guns back then, I would love felt better when I heard a strange sound.

The Grassy Knoll Gazette.. senses a conspiracy theory brewing.

By: gdiafante on 8/23/12 at 2:04

Ben, I've heard the sterilization argument from pro-lifers as well. I'm not 100% that they were serious...I hope they weren't, but I've heard it.

By: Captain Nemo on 8/23/12 at 2:07

The way we are going in the United States, that won’t be a problem, Ben. Nature has away of righting the boat, so to speak.

By: Captain Nemo on 8/23/12 at 2:09

g I could not get that site.

By: gdiafante on 8/23/12 at 2:13

This is all you need to know from it, Nemo:

Due to a clerical error in the federal business vendor process, a solicitation for ammunition and targets for the NOAA Fisheries Office of Law Enforcement mistakenly identified NOAA’s National Weather Service as the requesting office. The error is being fixed and will soon appear correctly in the electronic federal bidding system. The ammunition is standard issue for many law enforcement agencies and it will be used by 63 NOAA enforcement agents in their twice annual target qualifications and training.
