Up for Debate: Rodney King dies

Monday, June 18, 2012 at 1:22am

The videotaped police beating of Rodney King, who died Sunday from an apparent drowning, and its aftermath led to deadly violent riots and a renewed conversation on race relations in America. What are your memories of the beating, the trial, the riots and the phrase "Can we all get along?"

Gee.... makes you wonder, huh?

Why is it, when a white man attacks a black man, it is made in worldwide news. But when black man attacks a white man, you never hear about it as if it never happened.

You're still getting the "news" on the Trayvon/Zimmerman case constantly showing Trayvon's picture by the media as a 12 year old child instead of the 17.5 year old young man he was.

Now let's look into a situation that happened about a week before that incident in Oklahoma where a 20 year old black young man robbed, raped and killed an 85 year old white woman and robbed and beat her 90 year old husband putting him in the hospital. Any news here? Why wasn't it broadcast over all of the news factions?

Now let's look at the Rodney Kings situation that caused a riot. What if Rodney King was a white man and the officers that beat the hell out of him were black officers. Would a riot have taken taken place by the white population?

Racism in the USA has been and will be, sadly it will never end.

By: wiseguy1 on 6/18/12 at 9:50

slacker ... wasn't thinking of it like that, but it certainly fits.

By: yogiman on 6/18/12 at 9:51

slacker,

I've said it before, and I'll repeat it again. Barry Soetoro aka Barack Obama is in that office illegally. I oppose him being there solely because of his not being a natural born citizen. Race has nothing to do with it.

You all call be a racist because of my opposition of an illegal "black" man usurping that office. And the only reason I have read of any of you voting for him has been because he is our first black president. And that isn't racism? Gimme a break.

I've tried to give you the legal reasons he usurped the office because you can't win an election if you aren't legally eligible to enter the race.

And if you can't see the history on him, I feel sorry for the children and grandchildren of you posters for your ignorance.

It's going to be interesting in Florida today when they are having that case on his eligibility. If that judge rules by the Constitution hell is going to break loose and hell will break loose.

For some reason this one didn't rate much national attention.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murders_of_Channon_Christian_and_Christopher_Newsom

"According to the testimony of the medical examiner, Channon's death came after hours of torture, having suffered injuries to her vagina, anus and mouth. She was raped with an unidentified object and beaten in the head. It was also reported that her body was scrubbed with bleach which was also poured down her throat, in an attempt by her attackers to remove DNA evidence, while Channon was still alive. She was then bound with curtains and strips of bedding, her face covered with a bin liner and her body stashed within five large bin bags, before being placed inside a residential waste disposal unit and covered with sheets. The medical examiner said there was evidence that Channon slowly suffocated to death"

s/h/s y'all call me a racist...

but anyway, I'm not going to "shut up" until the truth comes out, and it will... soon.

By: wiseguy1 on 6/18/12 at 9:58

yogi ... thanks for the clarification. Slow day at the bomb factory ... so I felt compelled to toss a turd on his table to get him wound up then stand back to watch the fireworks. Figured he was doing the same thing as nobody can be that naive.

By: slacker on 6/18/12 at 10:03

yogi, show a little respect.. its Rodney King memorial day, take off your hat.

By: yogiman on 6/18/12 at 10:19

Where was you when the Rodney King incident happened, slacker? Was you even born then? Apparently you have a high respect for a dope addict with a resist arrest frame of mind.

Are you one, too?

By: yogiman on 6/18/12 at 10:28

Oh, sorry, slacker, I forgot to mention it to you.

I read where King's "fiance" said he had been drinking and had taken some dope before he got in the swimming pool. Does that make you admire him more.

A senile paranoid incontinent old fart walks into a gay piano bar... orders a "where's your f*cking birth certificate' with a twist of lime.

Bartender explains there's no such drink and suggests a "get the f*ck out of here" instead.

By: yogiman on 6/18/12 at 10:32

Darn, did I hit that button twice?

By: bfra on 6/18/12 at 10:33

Now Ben, don't get riled. According to most of your comments, you & yogi could be twins.

By: BenDover on 6/18/12 at 10:36

Now that's where your predispositions are going to bite you in your arse, bfra.

Discrimination between critics and kooks is a useful skill you seem not to have yet mastered.

That's okay, BenDover, That bar down the street might have that particular paper to mix in my drink. If they don't, I'll just keep going to the next bar until I find one that give's you what's best for your money.

Lead the way, slacker.

I'll follow you until you fall over the edge of the bluff. Then I'll turn around and get to the other side of that canyon by a more logical way.

If you can climb back up that hill, you can follow me then. I won't walk too fast for you to see the directions.

By: Loner on 6/18/12 at 12:10

I just got back from some errands...I do not have time to answer Wiseguy at this time...I'll try to do so later.

Ben, I had a great time in Michigan. Thanks for asking...my old Army buddies got together...I had not seen them since 1969...six of us.....very powerful emotionally.

And yes, Slack I'll walk like an Egyptian as I carry my signage.

Gotta run....later!

What is the opinions of you Obama admirers in violating the Constitution [one more time] granting amnesty to 800,000+ illegal aliens by executive order and giving them the right to work even though millions of young Americans have no jobs? Does he think they should have the right to work like American citizens even though they aren't American citizens?

Or is it because he's thinking about giving them the right to vote a a few months? You know, a few hundred thousands more for himself. Barack Obama has issued more executive orders in 3.5 years than George Bush issued in his 8 years in office.

By: parnell3rd on 6/18/12 at 12:29

Go get um Yogi!!!! Just another way for King Obama to try and steal an election.
15 mile bicycle ride and some iced coffee! Life is good when you can forget about how screwed up the world is!

By: yogiman on 6/18/12 at 1:27

I'm just trying to bring out the issues on this guy and facts are facts, parnell3rd..., and there's a bunch of them.

And who's actually the ones to blame? Congress. I know there's a bunch of idiots in Congress but there's also some [reasonably] intelligent people there, too. So, why did they knowingly allow this to happen? Are they ready for a One World Government? Are you? Are the others on this site? I'm not. I like the USA.

The biggest issue here, parnell3rd, is the facts.

Did you see an article recently showing his literary agent had issued an identity advertisement in 1991on Obama stating he was born in Kenya and raised in Indonesia and Hawaii? That identity was shown until 2007 when he "got into" politics. Was he "reborn" in Hawaii after 16 years?

This is the only man who has ever been in the White House and his admirers don't even know his legal name.

By: dargent7 on 6/18/12 at 1:32

Because, Mohandas "yogi", Obama inherited 800,000+ illegals while President.
What should he do? Ask them like numb-nutz Romney to "self-deport" immediately?
Arrest themselves? Turn themselves in?
For sure it's an Obama political stunt so close to the election.
But, it appears he believes in the cause.
Like GW Bush believed it was just and right to bomb the shit out of Iraq, "Shock & Awe" (you Republicans got boners yet?), invade the country, kill his cabinent, kill his sons, kill his uncles and aunts, kill civilians, capture the President Hussein ( 0% culpable for 9/11 for which this witch hunt was enshrined), try him, and then hang him in less than 2 years.
That resonates in your heart and brain, does it?

By: bfra on 6/18/12 at 2:01

Obama is in the WH because the voters put him there. Not the (way over the hill) Supreme Court, Daddy Bush & (crooked) Jeb. Of course a few repubs that can't understand plain English are still whining! Boo Hoo

By: yogiman on 6/18/12 at 2:01

Were those 800,000+ here when he went in office, dargent7? If not, how many of them have came in illegally since he went into office?

By he way; what do you think of Obama's Harvard law professor stating Obama should not be re-elected to office?

And comparing Obama to Bush, there's no difference in them wanting open doors for illegals coming in from Mexico.

Another question: You can't blame it all on Obama. Why has all presidents before left the Mexican border open? Why have they put restrictions on our Border Patrol? Why were Border Patrol agents sent to prison for stopping an illegal entrance?

By: yogiman on 6/18/12 at 2:29

bfra,

You don't seem to understand the law but let me put it this way. Much has come out Obama is not a natural born citizen. Even if he was born in Hawaii (which his identity poster finally claimed in 2007), his father was a British subject of Kenya. His mother was a teenage girl and the best she could have done would have been to give him dual-citizenship, and that isn't making him natural born. As I've referred before, look at the SC decision on the Minor v. Happersett case in 1875.

Even if you received the maximum votes in a race, you cannot win an office race unless you are legally qualified for said office.

If you could be determined the winner simply because of the votes, anyone in the world could run any race in the world they wanted to and say; To hell with the required legal qualifications, I'm running.

Gee, you must have hated Reagan then......... and by the way, Obama did not grant them amnesty. But Reagan did........

By: yogiman on 6/18/12 at 3:24

What do you call that "right" he is giving to a noted 800,000+ illegal aliens, brrrk? Is it just a "right to work" in the US even though they are here illegally? I read it as giving them amnesty plus the right to work.

And yes, you're right, Reagan screwed up and gave it to (i believe) 3 or 4 million. Obama isn't standing there alone on this issue. The only difference is the men in office before him were in office legally and went through Congress to give them citizenship. Right after he made that boo boo Reagan admitted he had made a stupid mistake.

Then again, all presidents (including Jimmy Carter) have been working with the UN to get a One World Government. It looks like Reagan with in line with them.

"The video was damning; no creature deserves to be treated like that. "
Interesting! No one mentioned the innocent truck driver that a bunch of black thugs dragged out of his truck and almost beat to death, leaving him severely disabled for the rest of his life. King, on the other hand, became a t.v. celeb. For shame!

The troll monkey was quick to point out ‘black thugs” beating an innocent white, but she fail to mention the black people that came to his rescue of this white man. She must have selected memory lose on racial lines.

Rodney King... the main reason George Zimmerman is being persecuted for defending himself.

That is a load of BS, Ben. Theses are two different cases and circumstances.

BTW Zimmerman has a credibility problem, lying to the court about not having any money.

With the world in turmoil the City Paper gives another 15 minutes of fame to a man in 1992 high on PCP fighting with police. Yes Rodney King took got his butt kicked but, the news never showed the complete video of how he attacked the police first.

Please show us the whole vidoe parnell3rd.

Apparently my mistake, dumba$$. I thought it was Loner and it must be you. Can you refer me to the days where multiple pages came on line when Loner wasn't posting?

By: Captain Nemo on 6/18/12 at 4:02

What are you talking about yogi?

By: Loner on 6/18/12 at 4:47

Back from the protest point....three of us today....lots of thumbs up and horn tooting from motorists passing through the intersection. Our message is getting through, or so it seems. But saying something is not the same as doing something...that's what my pastor said yesterday....I have to agree with that.

Earlier, inspired by Rasputin's comment about impending destruction, I posted a link to Barry McGuire's 1965 hit, "Eve of Destruction". I have located a better site....with appropriate images to complement the lyrics and the music....here's the URL:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ntLsElbW9Xo&feature=related

And Wiseguy's attempt to minimize the importance of the slavery issue as a casus belli for the war between the states is a familiar re-write of the facts.

I invite Wiseguy and other non-believers to read the Confederate Constitution.....it clearly spells out the main reason for the Great Secession : African Negro Slavery.......the issue is mentioned several times in the infamous document....it's what the CSA was fighting for......white supremacy.....not much glory in that.....plenty of shame....and some Southerners remain unrepentant to this very day....the rear guard for American White Supremacy.

The King and Zimmerman cases are grim testimony to the fact that we have not achieved liberty and justice for all.

By: yogiman on 6/18/12 at 6:32

Loner,

While I agree with you on the segregation and racist issues, I must disagree with you on the one sided segregation issue. While there's still attitudes and racism on both sides of that fence, I believe there's more segregation in the Negro race than the Caucasian race today.

And I believe there's a Supreme racist attitude in both races, not just in the Caucasian race. If not so, how can you explain Barack Obama's specializing in getting more black votes? Do you know of any white campaigner specializing in gaining white votes?

A young black woman can enter the Miss America contest, but young white women can't enter the Black Miss America contest. Why is there a Black Miss America contest? Why can't there just be a Miss America contest? Aren't they all Americans?

There are colleges with students limited to the Negro race, but what kind of revolt would take place if a college tried to limit their students to the Caucasian race?

There is black "clubs" in congress but what would be the argument if a group of white legislators tried to form a white "club"?

Will the USA ever become a nation of all intimate races? I doubt it, but if it ever does, none of us will ever live to see it.

Because of the time of slavery used by our forefathers, we're still paying for it and I doubt if we'll ever get it paid off.
