Up for Debate: Santorum visits, leads Romney in MTSU poll

Thursday, March 1, 2012 at 2:22am

Are you surprised at all that an MTSU poll found Rick Santorum leads Mitt Romney statewide? Do you think Santorum's focus on health care, energy and debt will strike the right nerves in Tennessee Republican voters to bring him a victory here Tuesday?

Good morning, Nashville.

Santorum is a theocrat; Tennessee is filled with born-again Christian theocrats...it's a marriage made in heaven. Santorum should do well in the Volunteer State, his message of hate resonates here.

Mitt Romney is a Mormon...that's a "heretical cult", according to the born-agains....therefore, Mitt has no chance in the Bible Belt.

In the former Confederacy, belief in the divinity of that world-famous, executed, Jewish heretic and the twisted Gospel of Saul of Tarsus, (St. Paul) is a sine qua non for any politician....all the other stuff is relatively unimportant to these pious folks....they just want somebody to expedite the End Times, the Rapture, Armageddon etc.

By: dargent7 on 3/1/12 at 4:47

Sadly, "the South" is being stereotyped, accurately, as being behind the 8 ball.
Santorum "throws up" during JFK's 1960 speech (he was 5 years old), college is for "liberal indoctrination" and "snobs", contraception is for wossies, and he'll make abortion a Federal interstate transportation crime punishable by 20 years in prison.
Sanitarium is certifiable.

By: Loner on 3/1/12 at 5:03

Who is crazier, Darge, Richard Santorum. or his followers?

Or are we the crazy ones for tolerating Cristian encroachment upon the ideals that founded this nation...ideas like secular governance by way of a written constitution and representative democracy....rule by the people, not a hereditary monarch....secular law, not church law....individual freedom, not oppressive and unfair laws....the freedom to pursue individual concepts of "happiness"....the idea that as a nation we are a collective, the general welfare is everyone's concern and responsibility.....and "brotherly love"....at one time that was considered an American virtue...what happened?

By: Ummm... on 3/1/12 at 5:28

No "snobs" in Tennessee, Rick! In this state, ignorance is not only bliss, it's a merit badge!

By: dargent7 on 3/1/12 at 5:35

Loner: It's all marketing strategy. Like a game of chess.
Sanitarium plays to a certain segment of voters, Romney, Gingrich does, too.
I'm just shocked in 2012, a guy like Little Ricky, gets any traction.
College is for "snobs"? No contraception?
All we humans do is surrounded by, and attempting to, fu**.
All these Republicans have 6, 9, 12 kids. They obviously like to fu**.
90% of America cannot afford 9 kids, like these rich, white people have.

By: Loner on 3/1/12 at 6:27

Darge....I hear that...it's a game.

Right-wing black guys get traction in the old confederacy....Herman Cain and Allen West proved that. White folks down there point to their support for Uncle Toms like that and say, "Now call us racists." In like fashion, the normally anti-Catholic Southern whites can point to their support of the born-again Santorum and say, "Now call us anti-Catholic".

Santorum's brand of Catholicism is not mainstream...he is on the lunatic fringe...I'm waiting for the film of Rick speaking in tongues.

Santorum's Jesus was a sword-packing, Jewish nationalist and death-penalty advocate...a conservative and judgmental man....a person obsessed with other people's sex lives...a man who loathed the poor and rebuked them for being "lazy"....that's not mainstream Catholicism...that's born-again BS.

By: gdiafante on 3/1/12 at 6:34

First, and I'm not defending Santorum, but he didn't listen to the speech when he was five and understood what it meant and was sickened. That happened much later after he was brainwashed and indoctrinated into the Catholic cult.

And so that I will not offend only the Catholics, I believe that all organized religion is nothing more than a highly evolved cult.

Second, the more this guy talks and explains his beliefs, the more I think he's nuttier than yogi. There's a portion of the population what will not rest until it's 1650 again. For those, Santorum's your guy.

By: dargent7 on 3/1/12 at 6:45

gD: You are indeed, correct. For him to pander to this "evangelical" base, is sickening.
I want to barf every time he talks. But, the pundits are saying he'll sweep the south. Go figure.

By: gdiafante on 3/1/12 at 6:53

Without that base, he has no one. Without the South, evangelicals would hardly make a sound. Can you imagine how less divided our country would be if it weren't being hijacked by the South?

Think about it. This dates back to the Constitutional Convention...having to appease the South...

All children reach maturity in time, gdiafante. Some younger than others. Hopefully, you'll reach that stage before your children beat you to it. Regretfully, however, I doubt it judging the way you're acting.

You brilliant "experts" can keep Barry Soetoro as 'your man' until November 6, 2012 when a true American takes over the President's office.

By: dargent7 on 3/1/12 at 7:06

Davy Jones death:
What's so disturbing about his death, at 66, is the mis-information.
FOX News says "The Monkees influenced The Beatles..." What the f***?
No one seems to know Neil Diamond wrote all their songs, and session musicans played.
USA Today says Michael Nesmith played "bass" and Peter Tork, guitar.
Nesmith played the lead 6 string Gretsch, the only one who could actually play.
Too weird.

By: Loner on 3/1/12 at 7:13

Amen, brother Gdiafante.

A black dude, who talks like Dick Cheney and a "mackerel-snapping Papist", who talks like Pat Roberston are going to be big hits in the Bible Belt...the believers want token tolerance, not the real stuff....a Hispanic who speaks perfect English and has Spanish, not Indian features, could be very popular in the Bible Belt nowadays.....it's tokenism....cynical tokenism.

Those who vote out of prejudice get what they deserve, if their candidate wins....they elect an empty suit, a demagogue, or a scalawag.... the self-centered scheming voters get a selfish scheming scammer as their official representative....poetic justice, IMO.

Simply put, the Idiots elect idiots and the A-holes elect A-holes....we call it "democracy"....and then we puff out our chests and brag about "American Exceptionalism"....meanwhile the PACs and the Super-PACs bankroll the farce....and the media provide the distracting entertainment and the selected news....as we slowly go bankrupt...financially and ethically....as GD said...."circling the drain".

By: Ummm... on 3/1/12 at 7:14

d7- Neil Diamond didn't write ALL their songs, Boyce & Hart wrote "Last Train to Clarksville," for example. They've been called the "prefab four" because of their formulaic origin, but they were somewhat entertaining anyway- in fact, I'd take the Monkees over quite a bit of the crap that passes for "music" these days.

By: treehugger7 on 3/1/12 at 7:16

What do expect from fox news? Real news? I doubt it!

By: gdiafante on 3/1/12 at 7:16

You brilliant "experts" can keep Barry Soetoro as 'your man' until November 6, 2012 when a true American takes over the President's office.

Before, you'd argue that you had no doubt he was an American citizen, just not "natural born". Now, he's not a true American. See, this has nothing to do with eligibility...you are the perfect example of why the South is ass backwards.

By: Captain Nemo on 3/1/12 at 7:20

Santorum is just another TV evangelist, selling his product to the gullible.

By: gdiafante on 3/1/12 at 7:20

Darge, the Beatles and Monkees actually got along...the Beatles thought their comedy was brilliant and the Monkees, like everyone else, loved the Beatles. They had other artists write for them and eventually the Monkees became a true band, playing and writing their own stuff. Personally, I liked the Monkees. Screwball comedy ala "Hard Day's Night" with solid pop songs. Loved the show as a kid.

I really thought Peter would be the first to go...

Tea Party theology

''Do you know, where does this phrase 'separation of church and state' come from? It was not in Jefferson's letter to the Danbury Baptists. ... The exact phrase 'separation of Church and State' came out of Adolph Hitler's mouth, that's where it comes from. So the next time your liberal friends talk about the separation of Church and State, ask them why they're Nazis.''
—Glen Urquhart, the Tea Party-backed Republican nominee for the Delaware House seat held by Rep. Mike Castle, April 2010

By: Captain Nemo on 3/1/12 at 7:24

After 81 years maturity has bypass yogi completely.

By: Loner on 3/1/12 at 7:25

Mike Nesmith put out a solo album in the early seventies...it had "Tumbling Tumble Weeds" on it..I heard it only once...I was hitch-hiking across the country, solo...my ride had it on a "tape"....we drank beers...I rolled, while he drove....that was back in the 70's....I was on my way to Idaho and we listened to Tumbling Tumble Weeds as we watched them tumble by....out West....the beer was cold, the herb was kind and the tunes were first rate.....you just can't do that again.

May the soul of Davy Jones live on in peace and harmony with the universe....

''I've always been fascinated by the fact that here was a relatively small country that from a strictly military point of view accomplished incredible things.''

By: Captain Nemo on 3/1/12 at 7:33

gdia-

It’s mostly yogi that is back-ass-ward. Head in butt.

By: dargent7 on 3/1/12 at 7:43

Ummm: You are correct. I thought Diamond's "Thank the Lord for the Nighttime" opening guitar riff was the same as on, "Last Train to Clarksville". Boyce & Hart wrote as many for the Monkees as did Diamond. Carol King was in there, too.
"I'm a Believer" was a Diamond one. "Steppin Stone" was B&H.
I can barely write my will.

By: dargent7 on 3/1/12 at 7:46

Tid-bit: Mike Nesmith's mom invented "Liquid paper". Made 100 million, leaving it all to Mike. That's why he didn't tour and dropped out of all the re-union stuff.

By: yogiman on 3/1/12 at 7:58

gdiafante,

Not having a doubt is one thing, knowing the fact is another. Correct me if I'm wrong, I believe I said I didn't doubt his citizenship, but I fully doubted his natural born citizenship status.

Being fathered by a foreign student could not possibly have made Barack Obama a natural born American citizen. He was born a British subject. The very best could have been dual-citizenship and that sure as hell doesn't make him a natural born citizen..

By: Rasputin72 on 3/1/12 at 7:59

I really do not think that it really matters what any Republican says or does. This is only the second Presidential election in my lifetime that is truly a non-event. Barry Goldwater in 1964 was beaten before the election. The people were in awe of Camelot years of Jack Kennedy and thought Lyndon Johnson would be an extension of the foolish thought that a Great Society could be created by giving more welfare to "people"

Today those "people" are now a majority and can elect anything for President from P.T.Barnum to Barack Hussein Obama.

This is a foregone conclusion by almost anyone who can read tea-leaves and "people".

By: gdiafante on 3/1/12 at 8:04

Correct me if I'm wrong, I believe I said I didn't doubt his citizenship, but I fully doubted his natural born citizenship status.

Um...that's what I said..."Before, you'd argue that you had no doubt he was an American citizen, just not "natural born".

Reading comprehension is not your strong suit. And, as I've proven, 200+ years of case law says your argument holds no weight. Get over it.

By: Loner on 3/1/12 at 8:07

Izzat right? "White out" was Mike's mom's invention? Cool.

They say that "necessity" is the "mother" of invention...that may be true, but "laziness' is the "dead beat dad". To lazy to re-type it? Use White Out...saves time, money and paper....beautiful idea.....now obsolete as the typewriter.

Wow....I have seen a lot of stuff come and go in my lifetime...and the pace of obsolescence is picking up speed....necessity and laziness are now openly shacking up...it's a beautiful thing!

By: Loner on 3/1/12 at 8:17

Yogi bear, hopped up on fermented Barry's and prowling for nuts, has acquired a new sidekick: Rasputin72. Yogi the Bear has found his Boo Boo....Yogi has goofy ideas and gets into trouble, Boo Boo tries to warn Yogi, but Yogi believes himself to be "smarter than the average bear".

This is Jellystone Park....watch your pic-a-nic baskets....enjoy the show!

By: yogiman on 3/1/12 at 8:19

You must have been reading different laws than I. We have that little piece of paper called the Constitution.

If Barack Obama can be accepted as a natural born citizen means our founders had no idea what they meant when they placed the 'natural born citizen' status in the Constitution.

Don't you think they had a specific reason for that wording?

By: gdiafante on 3/1/12 at 8:23

Um...the Constitution doesn't define what constitutes a natural born citizen, moron.

If you have case law that proves me wrong, cite it.

By: Rasputin72 on 3/1/12 at 8:25

LONER........You appear to be a person who enjoys the life you have. Could you enlighten me as to your feelings about the November, 2012 election?

By: Mike Burch on 3/1/12 at 8:27

I agree that Santorum is probably the product of childhood brainwashing. Adults told him that he would go to an eternal hell and suffer for all eternity if he didn't believe in and obey Roman Catholic dogma.

This is why he fears and despises the Protestant religion, as he admitted in his 2008 speech at Ave Maria College. He think Satan has fooled Protestants into thinking nonprocreational sex is okay. Santorum "knows" that the only sex that God allows is baby-making sex. So he wants to avoid God dishing out punishment to the US by forcing Americans to have the "right" kind of sex, and to stop using contraceptives, which means American women remaining pregnant until menopause.

It's not his fault that he's mad, and it's ironic to see millions of conservative Christians support someone who has said in public that "mainstream, mainline" Protestantism is following the Devil.

Like the Ayatollah Khomeini, Rick Santorum calls mainstream America the Great Satan.

By: BenDover on 3/1/12 at 8:46

Santorum's will make a fine president. He basically holds the same values as Ronald Reagan and Reagan was good for 8 years... and the country could stand another round of it right now.

In other news Breitbart's gone. Met him at CPAC... really nice guy. Gave it to the left like Bill Maher gives it to the right. He'll be missed.

By: Loner on 3/1/12 at 8:48

While Yogi the Bear rants & raves, Boo Boo, the smarter of the two park bears asks for "enlightenment" in the form of an outside opinion: "LONER........You appear to be a person who enjoys the life you have. Could you enlighten me as to your feelings about the November, 2012 election?"

Why yes, little Boo Boo...I do love my life.

I think that all these "issues" will be mo, if Israel strikes Iran and the Iranians and their allies retaliate against Israel and/or the US...but, unlike previous wars in which we have been attacked first, the Americans will blame the Commander-In-Chief, not rally behind him...Netanyahu is the kingmaker this year and he's coming to town to strut and get stroked while Obama gets boos from the Republicans.

The Super-PACs will hatch and fledge...by fall they will be mature birds of prey...they will become a mortal threat to our injured system....these birds are not eagles, they are impatient buzzards.

If the economy improves, if there is no war against Iran and if Santorum or Romney is the GOP candidate, then Obama is going to win big...right now, it's "iffy"....my crystal balls are cloudy on this.

Hope that helps.

By: Loner on 3/1/12 at 9:03

Ben Dover still supports Bush & Cheney...now he tells us confidently, "Santorum's will make a fine president. He basically holds the same values as Ronald Reagan and Reagan was good for 8 years... and the country could stand another round of it right now."

And there you have it, an endorsement of the Gospel by Richard the Zion-hearted, from a loyal neocon and Bush apologist.... a Christian fundamentalist...a gun-owning, Southern white man who also gets nauseated by the ideas expressed by JFK....Santorum is the kind of Catholic that fires up guys like Ben Dover...JFK nauseated those types, back in 1960 and JFK is still making the sons of those pukers puke.

I wonder, did Santorum's parents hate JFK too? Or has Santorum found the key to winning the support of Southern bigots? He's playing the anti-Kennedy card and it's working.

I'd like to read Santorum's fifth grade essay on the life of JFK....it was probably quite fawning and worshipful.

By: gdiafante on 3/1/12 at 9:03

No Ben, Reagan had faith but wasn't a religious zealot, and he certainly wasn't a Theocrat. Santorum is both.

You know what you get with Santorum, which isn't policy debate, it's the role of religion in a Republic government. Thanks but no thanks. I like my separation of church and state.

However, if that's what you want, relocate to Vatican City.

By: dargent7 on 3/1/12 at 9:05

Burch: One's religion is always a backlash, a payback, a revenge, or an equalizer, to one's upbringing.

By: BenDover on 3/1/12 at 9:12

They tried the same crap on Reagan when he was running. Just another straw-man boogie monster whipped up by the media and Santorum's critics. It would be nice to have a president who understood that the first amendment protects churches rather than protects society from churches. The country would be in far greater peril if it got between Michelle and a tamale.

By: gdiafante on 3/1/12 at 9:17

Again with the conspiracy theories...is everyone on the right completely insane?

Seriously.

Speaking of faith-based hate and Holy War, check this out:
Headline:
Israeli officials: Starve Iranians to stop nukes
Source:
http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-4196885,00.html

The moderators on that board are yankin' my chain....

Starving people into submission is an age-old tactic; the Hebrews and the Romans both used it....now our "closest ally", Israel, is advocating that we apply this form of barbaric collective punishment to the Persians...Holy Wars Suck.

If America shares core values with the Israelis, like starving people into submission, then we are in deep shit. This is a most unholy way to fight for holiness.

By: Ummm... on 3/1/12 at 9:22

BenDover said: "The country would be in far greater peril if it got between Michelle and a tamale."

Insulting the first lady now? Stay classy, Ben.

By: bfra on 3/1/12 at 9:33

Ben is just envious that he doesn't have a lady that looks that good! Rasputin72 came on here, IMO blowing smoke. He/she certainly knows a lot about how the lower class, as he refers to them, lives. Maybe he/she has more in common with them than he cares to admit.

By: dargent7 on 3/1/12 at 9:36

This "Conservative" commentator, Andrew Breitbart, died "of natural causes", at 43.
What? I'm closing in on 53. Natural causes at 43?
Whitney Houston at 48. Davy Jones at 66. Dead at 43?
No way from, "natural causes".

By: BenDover on 3/1/12 at 9:40

I was just quoting BO there Ummmm... if you've got a problem with it take it up with him.

By: BenDover on 3/1/12 at 9:44

At CPAC Breitbart said he had dirt on Obama from his college days... video too. Then he turns up dead @ 43. Coincidence? What do you think Yogi?

By: Rasputin72 on 3/1/12 at 9:44

LONER.....I am appreciative of that answer. I pretty much thought that a person with your love of life would answer with a classic viewpoint. "If all the ifs and buts were candy and nuts what a glorious Christmas this would be."

Ole BOO, certainly has to agree with that viewpoint.
