What effect, if any, will Rick Santorum's strong showing in Minnesota, Missouri and Colorado have on the overall GOP presidential race?

The GOP goes from bad to worse.

By: dargent7 on 2/8/12 at 5:13

The nomination is Romney's to loose. Santorum will set back woman's rights to the 40's.
At least as crazy the Mormon religion is, it's far better than what ever Ricky boy is smoking.

By: Ummm... on 2/8/12 at 5:28

It appears that the Republicans might as well concede this year's election. Obviously, if "none of the above" appeared on their primary ballots it would win every time.

By: Loner on 2/8/12 at 5:37

Good morning, Nashville.

Rick Santorum's victories, in 3 state primaries yesterda, indicates a backlash to the "heretical cult", Mormon candidate and an embrace of the born-again Catholic theocrat.

Santorum is the perfect holy warrior...he has never served in uniform; he believes that the world's Jews are God's Chosen People and that all of Biblical Palestine is their God-Given homeland....he is perfect for the job of Vassal to the Israeli Prime Minister.

With saintly, silly and sanctimonious Santorum in the White House, Armageddon will be just around the corner.

L'ner: What's your take on Israel bombing Iran, pre-emptively?
I assume they assume we'll provide back-up. All the while Syria is killing 50 citizens a day and we're hung up on Iran getting ONE nuclear weapon without a delivery system worth a damn.

By: yogiman on 2/8/12 at 5:49

We all have our personal beliefs, Loner. And everyone thinks, "I'm right and Y'all are wrong". If Barry Soetoro keeps that seat in the Oval Office we can all kiss our USA goodbye.

It was a great nation for over 2 decades but its currently being flushed down the commode.

The worst issue is; Congress allowed this usurpation to happen. We have been placed so much deeper in debt by a usurper only with the approval of Congress.

By: Ummm... on 2/8/12 at 5:53

By the way, I wonder if Donald trump will take credit for...oh, wait a minute, sorry.

By: Ummm... on 2/8/12 at 5:56

Psst- yogi, a decade=10 years.

By: govskeptic on 2/8/12 at 6:04

Missouri was the oddest with Santorum beating Romney 2 to 1. No
actual delegates involved so this means nothing but talking points
for the 24/7 media to discuss, speculate on, and bore us to death with!

By: yogiman on 2/8/12 at 6:14

Sorry, I ain't woke up yet, Ummm. I misspelled centuries.

I saw an article a couple of days ago that was interesting but I was in such a hurry I didn't make a note of where I saw it and haven't been able to re-find it.. Just wondering if any of you other BSers saw it? It was a post about Obama already being determined to "win" the next 'election' and the electoral process was more of a show than an election.

By: Kosh III on 2/8/12 at 6:46

"already being determined to "win" the next 'election' and the electoral process was more of a show than an election."

You are confusing this with 2004 when the head of Diebold assured Bush that Diebold would guarantee a Bush win. fyi Diebold makes electronic equipment like our voting machines.

By: dargent7 on 2/8/12 at 6:49

Dildo, aka, yogi: Obama was interviewed by Matt Lauer. He's no Bill O'Reilley.
Obama is confident (a black thing) and said he "deserves a second term".
Besides LBJ (your era), what president didn't want another 4 years?
The only fraud was in the 2000 election where the president of Diebold, the voting machines, clearly stated, "Bush will win, if I have anything to do with it..."
That's how dumb you people are. The "fix" is in, and you proclaim it as a badge of honor.

By: Kosh III on 2/8/12 at 6:49

We need to leave Syria and Iran alone. Funny how we get steamed up about Iran having nuclear energy and maybe a bomb or two but were just peachy keen when Israel got the bomb AND assisted South Africa in getting nukes as well.

By: dargent7 on 2/8/12 at 6:50

K-3: You beat me to it. What I read, is that every vote cast for Gore actually went to Bush.

By: Loner on 2/8/12 at 7:16

Darge, Leon Panetta, US Defense Secretary, is reported to have said that he expects the Israelis to strike Iran preemptively as early as April, May or June of this year. They will not give us a warning, however...they are out of our control.

The scheduled US-Israeli war games were suddenly canceled by the Israelis; some speculate that the Israelis do not want any American military brass snooping around as they mobilize for the strike on the Persians.

The Atlanta Jewish Times called for Obama to be assassinated by Mossad agents in the US, if he balks at going to war with Iran. The paper is now up for sale, but the editor/owner is walking around a free man...he got the message out to Obama and then fell on his sword....mission accomplished.

Oh yeah, war with Iran is inevitable, IMO...sooner, rather than later.

But Iran is not the only country that we will be attacking and possibly invading down the road. This morning, the news is that 3 US Senators - all de facto Israeli agents - are threatening to cut off US aid to Egypt...this would abrogate the Camp David Accords (1978) and this would let Israel off the hook with regards to its peace deal with the Egyptians...the IDF would be free to strike the Egyptians, once the treaties are scrapped.

After we get sucked into a war with Iran, at Israel's behest, we will be sucked into a future war with our current allies, the Egyptians.

There's no oil in Syria, as there was in Libya, ergo the Syrians can go to hell...and that's where they are headed...Israel is delighted, they hate the Syrians too.

President Obama is allowing the Israeli PM to act as US Commander-In-Chief...when Netanyahu is ready, the US will be dragged into Israel's war with Iran....there will be no need for the POTUS to try to sell another war to the American people, once the Iranians retaliate against the Israelis or against our forces in the theater of battle.

By: Loner on 2/8/12 at 7:26

Darge, let me put it this way, Tony Blair was Bush's bitch; Barack Obama is Netanyahu's bitch.....a lap dog bitch.

By: yogiman on 2/8/12 at 7:37

No, it wasn't the 2004 election I read about, Kosh III. It was recent. From Diebold? I don't know.
As I stated, I was simply glimpsing [with something else on my mind] and didn't make note o f it.

And, dargent7, have you ever been able to figure out why Al didn't want the GIs to vote in that 2004 election?

Al Jr. was just a generation short of Al Sr., I want what I want no matter how I get it.

This is great entertainment. The Tea Bags have made the GOP more like Duck Soup.

By: Rasputin72 on 2/8/12 at 8:03

The only thing that these victories by Santorum, proves to me is that Obama is unbeatable in November. I have felt strongly that there are just too many people paying no income tax and too few other people who do not realize that they must put aside all of their other wants and bias in order to beat Obama.

The Republicans have lost the independents.

Santorum is a polarizing figure; he appeals to the pro-life death penalty advocates and the gun lovers....Santorum is a darling of the war mongers....the perfect vassal to the Chosen People in the Promised Land....Santorum would lead us into the Battle of Armageddon with the smug certitude of a religious nut-job.

President Rick Santorum = The Supremely Useful Idiot

By: yogiman on 2/8/12 at 8:17

To all of you Obama lovers, may I quote Dr. Thomas Sowell?

"The current Occupy Wall Street movement is the best illustrated to date of that President Barack Obama's America look like. It is an America there those who have unaccomplished, ignorant and incompetent rule. It is an America where those who have sacrificed nothing pillage and destroy the lives of those who shave sacrificed greatly.

"It is an America where history is rewritten to honor dictators, murderers and thieves. It is an American where violence, racism, hatred, class warfare and murder all all promoted as acceptable means of overturning the American civil society.

" It is an America where humans have been degraded to the level of animals: defecating in public, having sex in public, devoid of basic hygiene. It is an America where the basic tenets of a civil society, including faith, family, a free press and individual rights, have been rejected. It is an America where out founding documents have been shredded and, with them, every person's guaranteed liberties.

"It is an American where, ultimately, great suffering will come to the
American people, but the rulers like Obama, Michelle Obama, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, Joe Biden, Jessee Jackson, Louis Farrakhan, liberal college professors, union bosses and other loyal liberal/communist Party members will live in opulent splendor.

"It is the America that Obama and the Democratic Party have created with the willing assistance of the American media, Hollywood, unions, universities, the Communist Party of America, the Black Panthers and numerous anti-American foreign entities.

"Barack Obama has brought more destruction upon this country in four years than any other event in the history of our nation, but it is just the beginning of what he and his comrades are capable of.

"The Occupy Wall Street movement is just another step in their plan for the annihilation of America.

"Socialism, in general, has a record of failure so blatant that only an intellectual could ignore or evade it"

If you don't know who Dr Sowell is, look him up.

The best thing that came out of the Santorum wins on Tuesday is that the media annointment of the Romney train was totally ignored by the voters / caucus goers. I can see a serious shift from the Gingrich group towards Santorum in hopes of having a true alternative to Romney.

The one thing that you can't criticize Santorum about (regardless of your own personal beliefs on the issues), is that he stands behind his beliefs and is unwaivering in those beliefs. You've got to stand for something, or you'll fall for anything. He stands firm for issues he believs in, whereas Romney has had opposing viewpoints on countless issues.

By: Moonglow1 on 2/8/12 at 9:41

Moonglow1: Santorum=American Taliban-like state. Freedoms out the door and war with Iran. No birth control so there will be population control through war. No belief in climate change so be sure you purchase a gas mask to breath the air, and no health care (instead pray for life which will be another form of population control), no unions so the middle class will be finished, and gays will be jailed along with Stephen Hawking for his "views" on string theory.

Yes the USA under Santorum-a life of joy and religious fervor just like the Taliban.

Bush actually accomplished his mission which was war to fiscally destabilize the world and enslave the masses and envelop them in religious fervor.

By: Mike Burch on 2/8/12 at 9:50

Santorum looks like a freshly-scrubbed choirboy, but his beliefs are stone-age and creepy:

Sex should be only for procreation, not for pleasure.
Contraceptives are "not okay" and states can outlaw them.
Women should be fertile and multiply, like rabbits.
Certain types of sex should be illegal and the government has the "right" to pry into people's lives to make sure they're not doing anything "naughty" or "sinful."

If Santorum is the last Republican left standing, and American women figure our what he really believes, I'd say he's toast in any general election. So probably the best thing that could happen for President Obama is for Santorum to be his opponent.

By: Loner on 2/8/12 at 10:37

Great comments, Moonglow and Mike Burch.

Santorum is a Creationist; he has tried to introduce Creationism into the public school curriculum and he has had limited success.

Rick Santorum is very creepy...under that Ken Doll exterior, lives an emotional basket case, waiting to explode, like a ruptured pinata....this guy is on the emotional edge, IMO...he could break down and weep at any time....Santorum's faith is his lifeline to "sanity," IMO.

By: Loner on 2/8/12 at 10:48

PKVol comes to the aid of Rick Santorum: "The one thing that you can't criticize Santorum about (regardless of your own personal beliefs on the issues), is that he stands behind his beliefs and is unwaivering in those beliefs."

With all due respect, I disagree. Santorum is a hypocrite of the first order.

Santorum is a champion of Israel's "right to exist" as a Jewish state; but he does not seem to believe in a "right to life" for the Israeli fetus.

Santorum apparently supports the "right to life" for every non-Israeli fetus on the planet, but he says nothing about the state-sponsored Israeli abortion clinics.

According to Friends of Israel Efrat, some 50,000 abortions are performed in Israel, in these state-run "abortion mills", every year.

US aid to Israel enables the Israelis to fund these free or reduced rate abortions, yet Rick Santorum is silent on this issue. That's high hypocrisy.

By: Loner on 2/8/12 at 10:54

Perhaps, Rick Santorum is ignorant of the existence of these Israeli abortion mills...he is pretty ignorant...but somebody needs to put these questions to him and to the other GOP POTUS wannabes.

Once they informed of the facts, none of those right to lifers can plead ignorance...their continued support of US aid to Israel , in spite of being informed about the nature and extent of these Israeli abortions, will be proof of their hypocrisy, duplicity and moral relativism....this Israeli abortion mill issue has the potential to unmask the entire gaggle of GOP grand-standers.

By: brrrrk on 2/8/12 at 11:09

What we're seeing with this years Republican primary is the direct result of Citizens United. In any other primary, guys like Newt and Santorum would have been out of the race long ago because they simply wouldn't have had the money or broad support to continue. But with the CU decision, all any of these goobers have to do is go begging to their "sugar daddy" and off they go again. Seriously, does anyone think that Newt would be anywhere near this primary if it weren't for the Adelsons?

By: Loner on 2/8/12 at 11:57

Excellent point, Brrrrk....as usual.

Why would any egotist get out of the race when they get to travel first class, stay in 5-star hotels, eat at world class eateries, hold self-serving press conferences and bask in the applause of fawning fans?

If you have a super-PAC picking up the tab, why get out of the "race"?

You are right, Brrrrk, another unforeseen consequence of CU...the "Professional Candidates"....they never concede....unless they become ensnared in a sex scandal....more of these Professional Candidates will now come out of the woodwork in future elections.

Down the road, a super-PAC-backed candidate might be able to challenge a sitting US President within the same party....the idea that a sitting POTUS is the automatic party nominee for re-election may soon be outdated.

It's too late now, but some renegade Democrats could have challenged Pres. Obama for the party's endorsement...if they had super-PAC support....apparently the thought never occurred to them?

Watch for super-PAC-backed internecine warfare in the future....a prediction from the Lone One's crystal balls.
