deja vu all over again. Didn't we tackle this blockbuster on Monday?
SCOTUS previously ruled a Corporation ia a "person", so now they'll rule a "person" is a nobody.

By: Ummm... on 6/28/12 at 4:28

The Teapublican kangaroo court will undoubtedly make another politically motivated decision that serves nobody but their corporate masters, which include the wonderfully humane insurance companies. Welcome to government of the privileged, by the privileged and for the privileged. Old Abe (not the Vampire Hunter) would be appalled to see what his party has become.

By: dargent7 on 6/28/12 at 4:50

For the bored crew...The Tennessean has a lively discussion going on re: Global Warming. Mike Burch kicked it off yesterday, and I'm piling on today.
Republicans are CONVINCED it's all a hoax. This is why the temps in Nashville are going to hit 105 degrees this week. And it's still June.

By: Loner on 6/28/12 at 4:57

Same guessing contest twice in the same week? I do not like regurgitated and re-chewed topics. All I can say is that the Supreme Court is made up of nine elite and aloof individuals who kow-tow to the special interests...they are ideologues who were chosen by crass politicians with the intent of leaving their personal legacy behind...a residual and enduring element of their personal influence on history.

Elena Kagan should have recused herself...she crafted much of the disputed law...we'll see if she has any ethics or not....we know that she has a big mouth; let's see if she has any decency.

My prediction: at least part of the law will be struck down....there will be a backlash across the nation....Obama will use the decision to demonize the USSC and Congress....Obama's people will squeeze this and make lemonade.

Of course, the major issue in November may be the looming war with Iran....the Israeli Prime Minister will determine who our next Commander-In-Chief will be.....and most Americans are OK with that....we just cannot get enough of that Holy War stuff.

By: gdiafante on 6/28/12 at 5:07

Welcome to government of the privileged, by the privileged and for the privileged. Old Abe (not the Vampire Hunter) would be appalled to see what his party has become.

The founders and Honest Abe have rolled in their graves so many times Disney is considering making it a ride.

I agree with Loner, the mandate will be eliminated, most everything else should remain. Congress has vowed to overturn that as well, but considering how Congress would have to form committees just to come up with a way to tie their own shoes, I'd say that's unlikely.

By: Loner on 6/28/12 at 5:14

Global warming? We are in a warm interglacial period....relax, the ice is coming back...things will cool off....Homo sapiens will have exterminated himself from the mudball by that time....the ice will act as a rasp, abrading away his handiwork....covering his tracks....in geologic time, that's just around the corner.

By: gdiafante on 6/28/12 at 5:17

Well, Loner, the forecast here for tomorrow is 107 and over 100 for at least the next five days...so excuse me if I wish for glaciers a little sooner rather than later.

By: Loner on 6/28/12 at 5:25

The Supremes will don their black robes and make their announcement at 10 AM....Scalia is now putting on his make up....practicing his scowl....Clarence Thomas is staring in the mirror too, perfecting his signature look of utter contempt....Kennedy is re-reading the script, he does not want to make another gaffe....the ladies on the court are doing their best to look as unfeminine as possible....as Joe Biden likes to say, "This is a big f*cking deal!"....the media are ready to dissect and analyze the decision....the smell of history is in the air.....and it smells like bovine flatulence. And FOX News will be right there to ignite it.....this should be great fun.

By: dargent7 on 6/28/12 at 5:26

Loner: The only glacier in your recent past was seen on your honeymoon.

By: yogiman on 6/28/12 at 5:28

Today is the day for their decision to be placed before the public. And just like their findings against the Arizona State laws on illegal aliens, finding any of Obamacare in favor of the federal government means Obama has gained one more footstep in his goal to power over the USA. One more step toward communism.

By: gdiafante on 6/28/12 at 5:35

Well, yogi, if the USSC is in on the conspiracy (to transition America into a Communist nation), how do you explain Citizens United? Or are you saying that the central control is not the government, but business...which would seem to contradict the very tenets of Communism (state ownership of production).

By: yogiman on 6/28/12 at 5:36

Where did you get that 107 degree forecast, gdiafarte? The official forecast for tomorrow is 103.

But a forecast is just that; a forecast. Even with computers and world radar coverage, weather forecasts cannot be 100% accurate.

By: Loner on 6/28/12 at 5:37

Roger that, D7....hard as an icicle.

By: gdiafante on 6/28/12 at 5:38

Yogi, I've seen everything from 103 to 117 being forecast for tomorrow. The average is from 104-107. It's freaking hot.

You know it's bad when they say we're due for a cool off next week when we only hit 99.

By: yogiman on 6/28/12 at 5:44

Let's see which way the ball rolls, gdiafarte. Obamacare is a 2700 page bill rammed down Congress' throat almost as soon as he went in office..

Do you believe Barack Obama is such a brilliant man he could sit down and draw that bill up and "present" it to Congress as soon as he did when he took over the office and handle all other issues on the table at the same time?

By: gdiafante on 6/28/12 at 5:49

Right...he held a gun to Congress' head...it's too early for the tin-foil, yogi.

By: Loner on 6/28/12 at 5:50

When the temperature goes North of 100 degrees F., the only sane thing to do is to head for the nearest air-conditioned bar and claim a bar stool as your real estate for the day....I recommend sipping some mint juleps while waiting for sundown...with the SCOTUS ready to take a dump, this is a good day for barroom debates....be sure to pack heat, as you attempt to beat the heat....lead could be flying before the day is over.

By: Loner on 6/28/12 at 5:53

The PP-ACA law was poured down the throats of right-wing politicians...like feeding slurry down the gullet of a foie gras goose....the rubber band around the throat, to keep the bird from puking, is about to be removed....stand back....this ain't gonna be pretty.

By: yogiman on 6/28/12 at 5:54

I'll repeat, gdiafarte: Who put those forecasts out? Unless the laws have been changed, the only official forecast you will see on TV, read in a paper or hear on radio, will be from the National Weather Service.

If you will look at the forecast on all channels on TV, you will see the same forecast, worded a little different to make themselves look different, but the meteorologists on TV cannot make a personal official forecast. They must use the same numbers provided by the National Weather Service.

By: Loner on 6/28/12 at 5:54

The acronym should have been: PP-CACA?

By: gdiafante on 6/28/12 at 5:56

I like to run in the heat...not at the century mark but in the high 80's...it's more of a workout. I'll have to run early next week...like 9am...

By: Loner on 6/28/12 at 5:59

GD, sit on bar stool...don't run....that's sound advice from an old survivor....it worked for me.

By: gdiafante on 6/28/12 at 5:59

http://www.tennessean.com/ (scroll down a little for the forecast)

Now that's just TWO local sources, each saying something different, yogi. If you look at WSMV, the first page says tomorrow will be 104, the forecast says 103.

Here ended the lesson.

By: gdiafante on 6/28/12 at 6:01

I've got it planned out, Loner. A quick three mile run, then lounge at the pool for a few hours while Tennessee burns. And I pity the fool who tries to take my spot in the pool...when it's this hot, I'll drown you.

By: Loner on 6/28/12 at 6:07

The National Weather Service is calling for increased goofiness with occasional insanity and scattered silliness today....winds will be out the @ss... with gusts up to 30MPH....the barometer is steady, all bars are being metered and the forecast is for increased inebriation followed by overcast skies and more suffocating humanity tomorrow.

By: dargent7 on 6/28/12 at 6:09

15 posts on how HOT it will be tomorrow thru Sunday?
It's going to be over 100 degrees. Whether it's 103, 104, 107 is irrelevant.
Then there's the Heat Index. gD was probably using the H.I. to cause "yogi" to get his panties in a wad.

By: gdiafante on 6/28/12 at 6:18

No, it wasn't the HI. If we're lucky about one thing is that there's low humidity. Can you imagine 104 degrees and high humidity?

By: gdiafante on 6/28/12 at 6:21

BREAKING NEWS: The USSC just ruled that yogi is legally insane.

Finally a ruling I can live with!

By: Loner on 6/28/12 at 6:34

It's amazing that the SCOTUS decision has not been leaked....they probably have armed guards burning the trash that comes out of the offices of the Supremes.....too bad that the feds were not so diligent in Fast & Furious....seems like the feds can keep a lid on some things but can't keep track of the 2,500 guns they pumped into the Mexican Drug Wars...they got their priorities mixed up.....IMO, Holder will walk the plank...he should.

By: yogiman on 6/28/12 at 6:37

As I stated, gdiafarte, "unless the laws have been changed". I've been retired from the National Weather Service for over 15 years and when I came out that door I left my forecasting knowledge in that office.

So I'll ask: Have the laws been changed?

By: Loner on 6/28/12 at 6:51

It's awfully nice outside right now....prime motorcycle weather....I may have to leave this wonderful forum early today....the big thumper stands ready to roll....NY LONER needs to have the cobwebs removed the old fashioned way....full throttle....Yee Haw!

By: govskeptic on 6/28/12 at 6:51

Change of subject to John Arriola: Why has there been absolutely no news
or word from our politically coward of Attorney General Johnson on the
results of the months long TBI Investigation? Only the "Tips/Fees" are
the news, but a much closer actions to being Criminal were the two
employees being well paid that were virtual ghost to the office!
This case is closing as a nothing, that maybe he hit the lottery and
just quit the job! So typical of other similar ones across this state!

By: Loner on 6/28/12 at 6:54

Arriola left a tip when he left the chambers? They say he's a big tipper. Money not only talks, it stifles.

By: Kosh III on 6/28/12 at 6:55

Didn't you hear about the Fortune article which showed that the GOP allegations are false.
Besides, thanks to the NRA/GOP an 18 year old can go into a gun shop in Tucson, buy a bunch of guns, go outside and sell them to Mexican drug dealers. And the government can't do a thing about it: Second Amendment! Second Amendment!

By: Loner on 6/28/12 at 6:55

Gov, who won the Word Tally Contest yesterday?

By: Kosh III on 6/28/12 at 6:57

Since we've discussed the USSC how about this:

If you were guaranteed Congressional approval,
What 6 things would you do immediately as President?
In no special order

1. Metrification. Yes, convert to the metric system, which we tried to
do once before(but Raygun reversed it) as it will greatly benefit businesses(and everyone else) to adhere to the same standards as the rest of the world.

2. Universal health care thru the Enhanced Medicare program that the AMA has pushed for years. Yeah, cradle to grave, the most efficient and cost effective program out there.
This would include a flat rate of taxes assessed from EVERYONE to pay for it.

3. A secure(as can be) national identity card/chip/whatever.
This will easily prove who is or is not a citizen or legal resident. We can easily find and deal with undocumented aliens.
This can serve many functions: voter ID, passport, driver's license, proof of insurance for vehicle(s) or home or whatever.
It could serve as your credit/debit card as well plus any other use
one might want.

4. Restructure the tax system. A National sales tax which will include taxing the sale of stocks/bonds/etc. So every time a stock transaction happens, sales tax will be assessed.
It will also include the sale of services. Think about it---a lawyer sells legal services at $300 per hour. How much income is that?
Eliminate almost all the loopholes and exemptions for the Income tax with provisions for the lowest income people such as a personal deduction.

5. Dismantle our Empire. Close (almost) all our bases in the EU, Korea, Japan, Latin America, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan and everywhere else. Listen to George Washington--non-intervention, not isolation.

6. Energy and Environment. A huge push away from non-renewable polluting sources to solar, wind, and especially fusion along with vigorous conservation measures and remediation of the worst effects of ecological damage. We can put hundreds of thousands of folks to work fixing the damage we've done and working in the new greener industries.

By: Loner on 6/28/12 at 7:01

Didn't read that article, Kosh...but if 2,500 guns foolishly went into the Mexican Drug Wars, in an ATF "sting", and people are now being killed by those weapons, then somebody should resign, IMO.

Running guns into Mexico, swapping them for dope....This is Change? This is Hope?
Some say, "Yep"....I say, "Nope".

By: Rasputin72 on 6/28/12 at 7:04

Looking at the voting records of these Supreme Court jesters I expect most of the plan to be upheld,

What I want to know is, who is going to pay for health care plan for the 47% who pay no federal income tax?

Will it be Dargent7 Yogi Loner Ummm Captain Nemo Slacker Gdiafante Govskeptic Ben Dover or will most of it be paid by people like me?

By: Loner on 6/28/12 at 7:05

Kosh, is that your personal wish list?

By: BenDover on 6/28/12 at 7:10

I'd be feeling a lot better about today if Bork hadn't been rejected. After Monday who the heck knows what might happen.

By: Loner on 6/28/12 at 7:11

Dammit! The federal government is trying to steal Rasp's Grey Poupon once again....Uncle Sam wants to spread the mustard around....Rasp says, "Let 'em eat cake!"

One wonders why the Rasp remains in this country...he has the means to move his @ss off-shore...and his fortune too....why does he remain here?

By: Loner on 6/28/12 at 7:13

Bork was a dork, Ben....an educated peasant with a torch & pitchfork....a mean-spirited destroyer....an angry and bitter man.

By: BenDover on 6/28/12 at 7:14

I heat wave is weather not climate. Our unusually warm winter could add to a climate trend but a couple of record hot days in June is really not that big of a deal.

By: BenDover on 6/28/12 at 7:15

It would be better than watching Kennedy flip a coin for 25 years.

By: Loner on 6/28/12 at 7:17

Yeah, no big deal...but the mile-thick ice that's coming our way...that's a big deal....enjoy the warmth....it's temporary.

By: slacker on 6/28/12 at 7:20

Loner nailed it. F&F was a silly, ridiculous scheme. Much like the ''Plumbers'' of Watergate fame. A snitch in time, will drop a dime.

By: Rasputin72 on 6/28/12 at 7:21

LONER.....The primary reason is AGE!!! The secondary reason is that out of appreciation for the country as it once was I want to "go down with the ship" knowing that if it happens tomorrow "what an adventure it was."

Thirdly I love seeing the quip "All Men are Created Equal" be proven wrong at least 85% of the time.

By: Loner on 6/28/12 at 7:23

With Bork, you knew how he stood....knuckles dragging as he walked....the dim wattage look in his eyes....the missing link?

By: BenDover on 6/28/12 at 7:26

I can't dismiss as silly or ridiculous a sting operation that had no intent to monitor the bait, slack. As Sherlock said, "when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth".

By: slacker on 6/28/12 at 7:28

Bork looks exactly like Mac Wiseman the bluegrass warbler. They've never been seen together.
