Up for Debate: Skinny dippin' lawmakers

Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at 12:11am

What do you make of reports that U.S. lawmakers took a late-night plunge in the Sea of Galilee last year while in Israel? Is it an embarrassment to our country, a security risk for our Congress members or an innocent romp?

Where are you getting this 'obstructionist' talk? It's the Senate that hasn't passed a budget bill in 3 years and Reid won't bring a single bill that comes out of the house to a vote. Obama's own budget was shot down 97 - 0 in the Senate. You've bought into the "we're the reasonable one's" lie when the Republicans have only had control of one house of congress and that's been for less than 2 years. Obama had a blank check with control of both houses of congress for his First two years and got everything he wanted from Stimulus to Obamacare, etc. That's when the spending levels got jacked up and it was all used for political purpose bolstering democrat constituencies and doing nothing north of zilch to advance the economy. At the same time Obama waged his war on energy, turned the EPA, the NLRB and every other agencies he could get his hands on into regulatory brown-shirts, and maintained 100% uncertainty about what hiring that next employee was going to cost an employer in taxes, mandatory expenditures on health care and regulatory oversight.

Obama owns this and to buy into the republican 'obstructionist' idea is to ignore the fact that they still control the presidency and the Senate.

"Obamacare" was created by the republicans. Read my previous post. They all loved it - until Obama supported it.

The point is death to Obama and the liberals, even if means total destruction for all.

Ben,

One question, we've been told by the right that if we lower taxes for the wealthy, if we reduce regulations, if corporate taxes are lowered; that jobs would magically fall from the sky. Right now corporate America is sitting on trillions while at the same time raking in profits like no other time in history... so, where are the jobs?

By: Blanketnazi2 on 8/21/12 at 2:51

Sounds like there's a little problem with the "Trickle Down" theory - it doesn't work! There is no historical evidence that it has ever worked.

By: Captain Nemo on 8/21/12 at 2:54

No that is trickle on.

"Mr. David Stockman has said that supply-side economics was merely a cover for the trickle-down approach to economic policy—what an older and less elegant generation called the horse-and-sparrow theory: If you feed the horse enough oats, some will pass through to the road for the sparrows." - John Kenneth Galbraith

Funny thing about that Galbraith quote.....

Now even David Stockman realizes that his economic policies were a load of digested oats....

I think we should drop the corporate rate to 25% so that companies quit building unnecessary new Walgreen's on every corner to bury profits in assets rather than take the tax hit. This applies to repatriation of all those multi-national dollars that companies choose to realize overseas as well. It ends up just being an additional tax on the US consumer anyway and costs us jobs.

By: Captain Nemo on 8/21/12 at 3:13

I'm going to call it a night.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 8/21/12 at 3:14

Take care, Nemo.

Speaking of cold weather....got me thinking about Climate Change. You know that Akin serves on the Committee for Science and Technology. I bet he knows as much about Climate Change as he does about rape and women's health. Who puts such idiots on that committee?

Facts were misplaced in the right wing fringe mind. It was replaced with superstition best guesses and that sounds about right to me.

By: Captain Nemo on 8/21/12 at 3:36

I thought I would give gov one more chance, but he seem to have left again.

BTW Blanket thank you.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 8/21/12 at 3:43

By: yogiman on 8/21/12 at 4:34

Blanketnazi1,

In answer to your question referring to Akin where you ask; Who puts such idiots on that committee?

My answer is some of the other idiots put in their positions by the idiots who are voted them in office.

By: yogiman on 8/21/12 at 4:37

Well, Captain dumbo, has your daughter gone home? You're back on your original writing skills today.
