Up for Debate: State fair lease negotiations

Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at 12:29am

State fair organizers are at an impasse regarding a deal on where to hold the 2013 fair. What do you think should happen with the fair? How do you feel about the fair possibly not being held in Davidson County this year?

I just read that memo, Ben. No where in there does it say that the U.S. can kill a U.S. citizen within the boundaries of the United States.

It's a legal justification for killing a U.S. citizen that is a senior Al-Qaeda leader posing an imminent threat to the U.S. in a foreign country.

Even if you infer that it is justifying drone attacks in the U.S., it clearly indicates that it would in reponse to terrorist activities. In other words, if an American had hijacked an airplane in the name of Al-Qaeda, we can shoot it down, legally, as self defense.

But, as I said, no where in there did it specifically mention something within the borders of the U.S.

Nice try.

Oh... my bad. I assumed the new news was in the US because Obama assumed the right to kill Americans abroad years ago.

By: Captain Nemo on 2/5/13 at 11:32

Only in Bizzro Land shall be be any unmaned drones. Right Ben. ;-)

By: yogiman on 2/5/13 at 11:32

Well, I'll put it this way, children; they didn't have kindergarten back in the old days and you had to be 6 years old when school started, not a few months, or weeks, later.

My son was 5 years and 11 months old when he was turned down to enter first grade. He would have been 6 less than 30 days after school started. He wasn't able to start until he was almost 7.

You know how it is... or was, you had to abide by the laws back then. I guess when more intelligent babies started being born they decided they could reduce their requirements and help get the brats off their parents shoulders.

By: Captain Nemo on 2/5/13 at 11:33

How did we get on unmanned drones anyway?

By: Captain Nemo on 2/5/13 at 11:36

It was not because of his age yogi, it was because he had an idiot for father.

By: budlight on 2/5/13 at 11:43

Below is a good reason to focus on licensing for people who want to have children. And of course the President will not comment on this. Or will he?

MERCED, Calif. (AP) - Authorities in Merced County, Calif., say no charges are expected to be filed after a two-year-old boy died from drinking cleaning fluid.

Authorities tell the Merced Sun-Star that the child's grandmother gave the boy what she thought was a bottle of water to drink Friday afternoon. The boy had become thirsty while playing at his grandparents' shop and the grandmother found the bottle on the floorboard of her husband's truck.

But the bottle actually contained solution used to clean aluminum rims.

Officials say the grandfather realized what the boy had ingested after he started choking. He was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Officials say the incident was nothing more than a tragic accident.

"finding a bottle of anything on the floorboard of a pick up truck and letting someone drink it is dangerous, to say the least". Quote from Me!

Yogi, whoever said they started to school at 5 was either lying, home schooled, in private school or illegal with no papers. Usual age for 1st grade is 6 years old before school starts.

Maybe he just does not remember that he was actually 6 years old.

Being a Marine vet, can you explain why Obama made contact with the UN within 2 hours after being sworn in in January telling them he was, in essence, ready for them to take our guns? What do you think he intends to do if he can get our guns?

If guns are killing people, he needs to tell the people of DC and Chicago to quit using them damn things and start using scissors as their department recommends.

rjp We voted to save the fairgrounds! It passed to save the fairgrounds! There is no paper and very little news coverage about the fairgrounds and what is going on there. If people in the area are worried about the once a month traffic and two weeks of the fair,Just wait till there is multi use housing and business there. This area get's pretty quiet after five pm. at night. And most events are over by ten when there are thing going on at the fair grounds.

By: Captain Nemo on 2/5/13 at 11:44

Back to the subject and to what ridavenport was saying. Davidson County is not big enough for a race track, because a good race track needs space to ground. As for the Fair goes the area near LP Field would be a good location. Easy to interest traffic.

By: bfra on 2/5/13 at 12:10

Nemo - The Fairgrounds has easy access to the interstates. It also has the bldgs. to accomodate all the different exhibits that make up parts of the fair.

By: gdiafante on 2/5/13 at 12:29

It was a lot of legalese, Ben and I share your concern if there was some arbitrary authorization to have drones attack the U.S. but that isn't the case, or at least in that memo.

And I would be surprised if anyone would contend with the fact that the U.S. has the authorization to inflict deadly force upon anyone who is about to or in the process of attacking our country, even if they were American.

Yogi, I don't really care about when you was a kid. I'm telling you that I started 1st grade as a 5 year old. I'm sorry if you have a problem with that, but it's your problem.

Maybe you should go back in time and protest. I hear there's a phone booth at the Gordonsville Circle K...chop chop.

By: gdiafante on 2/5/13 at 12:29

Sorry, html screw up again...sigh.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 2/5/13 at 12:54

Ben, you're getting as bad as yogi.

14 Propaganda Techniques Fox “News” Uses to Brainwash Americans

Take the enormous amount of misinformation that is taken for truth by Fox audiences: the belief that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and that he was in on 9/11, the belief that climate change isn’t real and/or man-made, the belief that Barack Obama is Muslim and wasn’t born in the United States, the insistence that all Arabs are Muslim and all Muslims are terrorists, the inexplicable perceptions that immigrants are both too lazy to work and are about to steal your job. All of these claims are demonstrably false, yet Fox News viewers will maintain their veracity with incredible zeal.

By: Captain Nemo on 2/5/13 at 1:08

I'm not to argue the points for or against bfra. What will be will be, I will live with it.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 2/5/13 at 1:11

oh, and btw....

Ronald Reagan’s home will not be leveled for Obama library

By: Captain Nemo on 2/5/13 at 1:14

Blanket I like Ben, but he does get dumb notations from FOX.

By: Captain Nemo on 2/5/13 at 1:15

Where did that come from, yogi?

By: Captain Nemo on 2/5/13 at 1:15

Where did that come from, yogi?

By: Blanketnazi2 on 2/5/13 at 1:17

The Reagan's home being torn down thing? Yep, from yogi. No surprise there.

By: Captain Nemo on 2/5/13 at 1:21

The Republicans are doomed with trolls like him.

I'm enjoying a moment in the park watching people.

By: gdiafante on 2/5/13 at 1:22

All these crazy tangents are yogi's. ALL of them.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 2/5/13 at 1:24

Well, this is no big surprise......

Alabama Man Holding 5-Year-Old Boy Hostage ‘Listened to a Lot of Conservative Talk Radio’

By: Blanketnazi2 on 2/5/13 at 1:24

yogi sounds like a deranged, ticking time bomb too.

By: Captain Nemo on 2/5/13 at 1:25

Reading bud's last post I think her parents should be ashamed of themselves.

By: Captain Nemo on 2/5/13 at 1:28

They both have the same blank look, except yogi is a coward and a liar. If he did anything like that, it would be from his closet.

By: bfra on 2/5/13 at 1:30

Blanket - I saw the report about the radio & yogi was the first "thing" that came to mind. Scares the H**L out of me that people like him can own a gun. That's the reason I am all for mental checks as well as background checksbefore buying a gun.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 2/5/13 at 1:32

I agree, bfra.

By: gdiafante on 2/5/13 at 1:32

Yeah, bud, I started 1st grade at 5. You calling me a liar, pig?

By: Blanketnazi2 on 2/5/13 at 1:33

g, she's jealous because she was held back.

By: bfra on 2/5/13 at 1:34

Bud, as usual, you don't know what you are yaking about. Lots of children are only 5 when they start 1st. grade. Depends of when their birthday is.

By: Captain Nemo on 2/5/13 at 1:36

bud is jealous of everything.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 2/5/13 at 1:36

I was 6 because of how my birthday fell. If I had been born a couple weeks earlier I could have enrolled the prior year.

By: yogiman on 2/5/13 at 1:38

Things have changed over the years, gdiafante. When I joined the Navy you could get discharged on your 21st birthday if you had served at least 3 years. Why 21st birtyhday? Because you had to be 21 years old to vote back then.

I understand you can enlist for 2 years now, or is that a time of active duty needed for the National Guard?

But back then also, we had State Guards... to protect your state. And there was a National Guard to protect this country if it was attacked. So over the times they've abolished the State Guards and the National Guards are serving "tours" overseas in combat. Why are they called National Guard now?

By: Captain Nemo on 2/5/13 at 1:39

She was confused about where the shooting was. She Georgia, when it was Alabama. Must be living under the bridge so much.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 2/5/13 at 1:40

No one cares about back in your time, yogi.

By: Captain Nemo on 2/5/13 at 1:42

yogi there is one thing for you to understand and that is you don't understand anything.

By: BenDover on 2/5/13 at 1:47

Citizens get due process rights GD. That's the rightful hang-up.

By: gdiafante on 2/5/13 at 1:48

As far back as I can remember the Navy has offered two-year enlistments. Considering that we had conscription through Vietnam, there's no wonder how many different types of "tours" there were.

Yogi, I remember the strange scene at Camp Lejeune in 1991 when National Guard troops were assembled and shipped out while permanent units were not. And these weren't non-deployable units either. It turns out that many Guard units were used in the first waves of Desert Storm while the permanent units were assigned in later scenarios.

The ground war only lasted 4 days so some fully deployable units never left. That was one of the more strange things I remember.

By: gdiafante on 2/5/13 at 1:50

Read the memo, Ben. It addresses the 14th amendment. Basically states that protecting civilians against attacks trumps the rights of a person who is willingly and knowingly attacking our country. The use of deadly force as self-defense or the protection of other lives trumps the 14th. That's the case all the time. Most recently the dolt who kidnapped that kid.

By: gdiafante on 2/5/13 at 1:57

sorry, I meant the 5th.

By: slacker on 2/5/13 at 1:59

I started 1st. grade at 10 mos. I was large for my age, and could change my own diaper.. still can.

By: gdiafante on 2/5/13 at 1:59

It actually cites the 4th, 5th and 14th. I was reading a passage dealing with the 14th when I wrote that. Anyway, how about "due process" and leave it at that. :)

By: gdiafante on 2/5/13 at 2:01

Maybe you can help yogi, slack. Just rub some Vicks under your nose first...seriously.

By: slacker on 2/5/13 at 2:08

gdiafante..we're all suffering because of the botched lobotomy procedure on yogi.
Damned country doctors.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 2/5/13 at 2:11

By: yogiman on 2/5/13 at 2:14

Thought you might like a little education, B2. But I see the communist party has you kids in its pocket and you're ready for Barry to be our dictator.

You apparently can't see beyond your nose on what's going on today. And as I've noted before, for someone to accept someone as their president who refuses to identify themselves is proving their ignorance.

By: bfra on 2/5/13 at 2:16

When someone uses facts to point out how dumb yogi is, he changes the subject, because he has no rebuttal.

By: gdiafante on 2/5/13 at 2:19

When he says "education" I think dueling banjos.

Actually when he posts anything, I think dueling banjos.
